There are so many Voice assistant platforms available in the market right now and the most well-known are Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa and Apple’s Siri, but there are other companies in the market that have their own voice assistant service and one of them is Microsoft’s Cortana. Cortana is a voice assistant platform for Windows 10 Operating System, which was released in 2015. Now the company has decided to discontinue the Cortana app service on Android as well as iOS platforms.

Microsoft will end the service of the Cortana mobile app on Android and iOS on January 31st, 2020. The company has confirmed that after the mentioned date the app will be pulled off in most of the markets like the UK, Australia, Germany, Mexico, China, Spain, Canada as well as India. However, users will still be able to access the app in the US. But it is not yet confirmed until when it will continue to operate in the US after the last date.

“After January 31st, 2020, the Cortana mobile app on your phone will no longer be supported and there will be an updated version of Microsoft Launcher with Cortana removed. “ Microsoft posted a new support article in the UK, Canada and Australia.

Those who are unaware, Microsoft released Cortana for Android and iOS in December 2015. The app service was specifically designed by the company to connect Windows 10 PCs and mobile phones. The app is also used to access the settings and update the software of the devices such as the Surface Headphones, which is another Microsoft device. So we are a bit confused about how the headphones users will be able to access its features in the future.

“To make your personal digital assistant as helpful as possible, we’re integrating Cortana into your Microsoft 365 productivity apps. As part of this evolution, on January 31st, 2020, we’re ending support for the Cortana app on Android and iOS in your market. At that point, the Cortana content you created–such as reminders and lists–will no longer function in the Cortana mobile app or Microsoft Launcher, but can still be accessed through Cortana on Windows.”, the company said.

According to Microsoft, Cortana reminders, lists and tasks will automatically get synced to the Microsoft To-Do app, which can be downloaded to the phone for free.
