OnePlus revealed HydrogenOS 11: everything you need to know

HydrogenOS 11 update is expected to be rolled out for OnePlus 6 and other devices later this year.

The Chinese smartphone company OnePlus has openly revealed its next iteration of HydrogenOS 11. The company’s custom operating system is based on Android 11 which has been introduced in China. The company has disclosed its features, design changes and more giving us the first glimpse of what is expected for the rest of the year.

The company at a virtual event on Monday in China unveiled the features of its upcoming HydrogenOS 11. It has several features such as Always-on Display, refreshed dark theme, new weather app and additional improvements. The Android 11-based HydrogenOS is now available for downloads but is only limited to China. The company on its official forum has explained the upcoming features coming to the OxygenOS 11 update this year.

HydrogenOS 11 brings the redesigned weather, more comfortable browsing of photo albums and notes, etc. in short it has got an overall visual refresh. The users will be getting optimised large-screen operating experience, comfortable and convenient with one hand. Comes with two brand-new fonts namely- Cang Er Jin Kai, Huakang Round Type while the OnePlus Ying Hei font has been upgraded to OnePlus Sans. In addition to this, the new update will also bring new live wallpaper, combined with the time point of sunrise to sunset, the colour of the wallpaper changes accordingly, echoing the changes in the sky.

Information screen display

Moreover, the function of constant light display on the information screen has been added in order to select as scheduled/all day. To set up: setting-display-the screen display is always on

Additionally, the custom style for the “Time” screen display has been added along with 10 clocks available for regular style. Follow these steps to set up: Settings-Personalization-Clock Style 

Updated dark mode

A Shortcut switch has been brought to enable dark mode, one can pull down the shortcut settings to open. This time the dark mode is supported by the setting of automatic opening and time period. The setting method is: setting-display-dark mode-automatic opening-according to sunset and sunrise/custom time opening 

Meditation mode 

The meditation mode will be offering three new themes ocean, space, grassland while also providing mode duration options. With multi-person meditation mode, you can invite your friends to meditate together.

Photo album 

The smart album will now come with a week review function to intelligently generate videos according to the material situation to retain memories.

According to a report by iTHome the HydrogenOS 11 update is speculated to be available to the latest as well as OnePlus 6 smartphones later this year in December. Right now, it is available in a Developers Preview and is expected to reach the OnePlus 8 series device in quarter 4 this year.
