Qualcomm announced the launch of Snapdragon 678 Mobile Platform 

The SoC is a follow up of Snapdragon 675 processor

The American Chipset maker Qualcomm has announced the launch of its latest Snapdragon chipset which is an upgrade over Snapdragon 675 that was launched two years back in the year 2018. The Snapdragon 678 SoC comes with performance upgrades with enhanced connectivity for videos and photos. The Chip offers 4G connectivity with  Snapdragon X12 LTE Modem to deliver a download speed of up to 600Mbps and an upload speed of up to 150Mbps.

While announcing the launch of  Snapdragon 678 SoC Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. vice president, product management, Kedar Kondap said, “We are uniquely positioned to support OEMs in delivering the next generation of devices with in-demand features and performance. Snapdragon 678 brings advanced mobile capabilities for daily entertainment at lightning-fast speeds over reliable connections and long-lasting battery life for consumers worldwide.”

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 678 SoC includes Qualcomm Kryo 460 CPU with a clock speed up to 2.2GHz and Qualcomm Adreno 612 GPU for performance increase. In addition to this, the chip also supports dynamic photography and videography abilities, and immersive entertainment experiences with long battery life over fast, reliable connectivity. Moreover, it will include an FHD+ 4K display with a resolution of 1,080×2,520 pixels and up to10-bit of color depth.

For this, it comes integrated with Qualcomm Spectra 250L ISP which helps in delivering vibrant camera features, therefore, resulting in true-to-life color through triple camera photos with up to 48 megapixels (MP) and zero shutter lag. Besides AI features such as Portrait Mode, Low-Light Capture, and Laser Autofocus 678 also comes with the capability to record HD 4K video and other features like slo-mo recording, 5x optical zoom, and portrait mode, with dual-camera support up to 16 MP.

For immersive entertainment, it equips Kryo 460 CPU and Adreno 612 GPU for faster graphics rendering allowing sharp visuals at high frame rates with fewer frame drops. The Snapdragon 678 is optimised for a better gaming experience and it can handle titles such as Unity, Messiah, NeoX, and Unreal Engine 4, among other top games, and provides quick access to popular apps and content.

Whereas the Snapdragon X12 LTE Modem allows super-fast upload and download speeds and rapid response times. It can support up to 600 Mbps of download speed and uploads up to 150 Mbps along with support for all major cellular modes plus Licensed Assisted Access (LAA) for increased capacity. In addition to this, there is also support for Beidou, Galileo, GLONASS, GPS, QZSS, SBAS, USB 3.1, USB-C,  Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, dual-SIM Dual VoLTE and dual-band Wi-Fi.
