Swedish caller identification app Truecaller on Wednesday announced that it has rolled out updates for its Android and iOS users. The company says that with the new update it has given a new look to its platform for global users. The new version of Truecaller streamlines calls history, SMS and Instant Messages conversations into a single tab with the introduction of the new Home screen. The Truecaller update brings two new features: a fresh full-screen caller ID and a Smart SMS allowing users to automatically categorize their SMS. According to the company, this will improve the communication experience for Android and iOS users globally.
Sandeep Patil, Managing Director at Truecaller said, “Communication in 2020 is easier in many ways, but also complicated by the vast amount of ways to connect with people and information. There is a need to streamline this experience, we believe. In recent years we have seen how Truecaller has become your communication hub where all spam – calls and SMS – is identified and there is no need to switch between different apps for calls and messages. With this update, we want to make it, even more, easier for our users to have streamlined communication. At a time when we should be working to support each other in unity, it is unfortunate to see many scammers and fraudsters trying to capitalize on these difficult times. For over a decade now, Truecaller has been the main line of defence against such activity.”
The biggest highlight of the Truecaller update is the Home Tab. Users will now see all their messages, as well as calls, joined together into a single list on the Home tab. This allows them to view their latest activity under a single tab in order to make a voice call, VoIP call, chat text and much more.
Another new feature introduced is the full-screen caller ID. If you have enough of getting pop-ups then this feature is a blessing to you. Instead of having a small floating pop-up, you will now see a Full-Screen Caller ID with a full-screen design. The Caller ID will display colours to identify what type of call it is: blue for calls from contacts or unknown numbers, purple for Priority calls from businesses or delivery services, red for known spammers, and gold for users with upgraded Gold accounts.
Last but not the least feature is Smart SMS and Insights. This allows the app to use the on-device machine learning to automatically sort messages into four distinct groups: Personal, Important, Others, and Spam. The notifications related to the financial & payment can be searched in the Important tab allowing you to keep a tab on your bills payments and budgets. One can make up one’s mind to pay a transactional SMS straight from the app or allowing the app to remind you later on. Future updates will include travel reminders like flight delays, bus seat allocation, live tracking & updates on postal/courier deliveries, tax updates and hospital/doctor appointments.
According to the company, all the processing happens offline and no message leaves the mobile device. All transactional information is securely stored on the mobile. This feature will be India first for all Android users.
