In a few months, we came across lots of new related to popular chatting app WhatsApp. The Facebook-owned company now has more than 2 million users across the world. In order to make its app more user-friendly the company keeps updating the app or seen testing new features on its platforms. Recently the app rolled out dark mode beta version of WhatsApp on both Android and iOS applications. The company was also spotted testing the same features on the web as well as desktop platforms. In the recent development, the company is now working on its new security and privacy feature called Protect Backup.
The new Protect Backup feature on WhatsApp is under development and is not available for the users yet. WABetaInfo which keeps tracking WhatsApp’s recent development has shared that WhatsApp is working on this feature and there isn’t any release date available. The publisher suggests that there is a possibility to protect your backup hosted on Google Drive. This feature will allow its users to encrypt their backup with a password so that neither WhatsApp nor Google will be allowed to see its content.
WABetaInfo stated, “The feature is in an alpha stage of development, so what we’re showing now is very poor but it’s enough to understand what’s its purpose.”
To prove the publisher has also shared some screenshots of the feature. However, not much details have been shared about this new feature but it is suggested that the user might not be able to restore his chat history if he loses the password used to encrypt the database. There is also an option to turn on and off the feature.
Until now there is no information related to the new feature that has been shared by the company but soon the feature will be available in the future. This feature is now available through Android Google Play Beta Program with version number 2.20.66.
Similarly, Whatsapp is also working to bring the dark mode feature on the WhatsApp web and desktop. Currently, the company is testing the beta version of the dark mode feature on both WhatsApp Android and iOS which will be rolled out soon to the general public through stable updates. The dark mode for desktop is also under development
