Most instant messengers have a dedicated emoji section that helps them transcend platform barriers. For example, WhatsApp and Telegram’s web portals allow you to access their complete sets of emojis by simply clicking on the icon next to the text box. However, using emojis on text editors like Microsoft Word, Notepad, and Google Docs can throw you for a spin. Today, we bring you the top 3 ways to type a heart symbol using a Windows and Mac keyboard.
Since emojis are pretty much universal at this point, Windows PCs and Apple Macs have a dedicated keyboard for them. This keyboard can be triggered using a simple keyboard shortcut. It offers a wide range of heart emojis, similar to an iPhone or an Android device.
If you want to go the old-school route, you can use an Alt Code to summon the classic heart ♥ emoticon. Alt Codes work by pressing the Alt key along with a specific numeric code. The numeric code must be typed on the vertical numpad on the right end of the keyboard.
You can probably guess the issue with using Alt Codes. Most laptop keyboards do not have a vertical numpad. The same is the case with Tenkeyless keyboards. To overcome this issue, you will need to use an onscreen keyboard on your PC or laptop.
Type a heart emoji using a Windows keyboard
Step 1: Open a text editor (MS Word, Notepad, Google Docs, etc.) on your PC.
Step 2: Press the Windows button along with the period (.) key.
Step 3: Click on the Smiling emoji icon.
Step 4: Switch to the Symbols tab.
Step 5: Select your preferred heart emoji from the list.
Type the heart emoji using a Mac keyboard
Step 1: Open a text editor on your Mac.
Step 2: Press Cmd + Ctrl + Space to trigger the emoji keyboard.
Step 3: Switch to the Symbols tab. It is positioned between the bulb and flag icons.
Step 4: Select your preferred heart emoji from the list.
Type the heart symbol using its alt code on your Windows keyboard
If you want to type the heart symbol instead of the emoji, you will need to use its alt code. The catch is that alt codes work on keyboards with a vertical numeric keypad. Most laptop keyboards lack the numpad. However, you can use this quick workaround.
Step 1: Press Windows + Ctrl + O to trigger the onscreen keyboard.
Step 2: Click on Options.
Step 3: Select Turn on numeric key pad and hit OK.
Step 4: Click the NumLock button in the bottom right corner of the keyboard.
Step 5: Press Alt and hit 3 on the numpad on the onscreen keyboard. This will type the ♥ symbol on the screen.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
How do you type the heart emoji using a keyboard?
If you’re on a Windows PC, press the Windows and period (.) keys to trigger the emoji keyboard. Mac users can press Cmd + Ctrl + Space for the same. Once you’re on the emoji keyboard, switch to the Symbols tab and select your preferred heart emoji.
How do you type the ♥ symbol using a keyboard?
Press Alt + 3 (numpad) to type the ♥ symbol on the screen.
How do you type the ♥ symbol on a laptop?
Since laptop keyboards don’t have a numpad, you will need to use an onscreen keyboard to type Alt Codes. Press Windows + Ctrl + O to trigger the onscreen keyboard. Select Options>Turn on numeric key pad and hit ‘OK’. Go to the text editor and select Alt+3.
What is the Alt Code for the smile emoji?
Alt + 1 types the ☺ emoji on the screen. For the same emoji with inverted colours (☻), type Alt + 2.
What is the Alt Code for backwards 3?
To type the ɛ symbol on your PC, go to the Emoji keyboard by pressing Windows + period (.), select the Symbols tab, scroll down to Latin symbols and select it from the list.
This is how you can type the heart symbol and emoji using your keyboard. While you’re here, check out how you can get iOS emojis on any Android device. If you have any questions, let us know in the comments!
Samsung has just unleashed the 9100 PRO SSD with PCIe 5.0, and it’s nothing short of a storage beast. Boasting speeds of up to 14,800 MB/s, this high-performance SSD delivers a staggering 99% improvement over its predecessor, the 990 PRO. If you’re into AI-driven workloads, high-intensity gaming, or content creation, this SSD might just be the power-up your system needs.
In This Article
A 99% Performance Leap – But Who’s Counting?
The Samsung 9100 PRO SSD doesn’t just bring speed; it rewrites the rulebook. Featuring a PCIe 5.0 interface, it delivers sequential read and write speeds of 14,800 MB/s and 13,400 MB/s, respectively. For professionals handling AI-heavy projects or gamers demanding ultra-fast load times, this SSD ensures smoother multitasking and faster data processing.

One of the biggest pain points of high-speed SSDs? Heat. Samsung addresses this with a refined thermal management system, improving power efficiency by 49% over the 990 PRO. The integrated heatsink, sized at 8.8mmT for 1TB to 4TB models and 11.25mmT for the 8TB variant, keeps things cool under heavy workloads. Translation? More performance, less thermal throttling.
Now With an 8TB Option
For storage-hungry users, Samsung has introduced an 8TB variant—a first for its consumer NVMe lineup. Whether you’re a professional video editor handling massive 8K files or a hardcore gamer with an ever-growing library, this model offers plenty of headroom for all your storage needs.
Broad Compatibility and Smarter Optimization
The 9100 PRO SSD is designed to fit a wide range of devices, from laptops and desktops to gaming consoles. It also comes with Samsung’s Magician software, which helps with data migration, performance optimization, and security management—because an SSD this fast deserves a smart companion.
Samsung will roll out the 9100 PRO in four capacities—1TB, 2TB, 4TB, and 8TB. The 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB models will be available starting March 18, 2025, while the 8TB variant will arrive in the second half of the year. Pricing is set at:
1TB – Rs 14,999
2TB – Rs 25,499
4TB – Rs 49,999
With blazing speeds, better heat management, and an 8TB option, the Samsung 9100 PRO SSD isn’t just an upgrade—it’s a game-changer. The PCIe 5.0 interface future-proofs it for upcoming workloads, making it a solid investment for power users. While pricing remains premium, for those who need top-tier performance, this SSD is hard to ignore.
SMS-based authentication codes have long been a necessary evil—better than nothing, but far from ideal. Now, Google is officially moving to phase them out for Gmail users, replacing them with QR codes. This change aims to enhance security and curb rampant SMS abuse, as confirmed by Gmail spokesperson Ross Richendrfer to Forbes.
In This Article
Why Is Google Abandoning SMS for Authentication?
The vulnerabilities of SMS codes are well-documented:
Easy to Phish: Hackers can trick users into revealing their security codes.
Carrier Dependency: A fraudster can hijack a phone number through SIM swapping.
Device Restrictions: Users may not always have access to the device receiving the SMS.
Fraudulent Schemes: Cybercriminals exploit SMS verification for scams like traffic pumping, where they generate large volumes of verification messages to numbers they control, profiting from each delivery.
Google has acknowledged these risks and is opting for a more secure, phishing-resistant method: QR codes.
Instead of entering a phone number and waiting for a 6-digit code, Gmail users will see a QR code on their screen during login. They’ll scan it with their smartphone camera, eliminating the need for an SMS message altogether.
The Benefits of QR Code Authentication
Reduces Phishing Attacks – With no code to intercept, hackers can’t trick users into revealing anything.
Less Reliance on Mobile Carriers – It removes the risk of SIM-swapping and fraudulent number takeovers.
More Seamless Login Experience – Scanning a QR code is often quicker and more reliable than waiting for an SMS.
Google has not provided an exact rollout date, but the transition is expected to take place over the coming months. The company is actively working to refine authentication methods, aligning with its broader push toward passkeys and biometric security.
While QR codes may not be everyone’s favourite, this move is a major step toward stronger security. SMS authentication has served its time, but its vulnerabilities make it increasingly untenable. Google’s shift to QR codes could set a precedent for other tech giants to rethink their authentication strategies.
One of the advantages of being in the Microsoft ecosystem is that you can pair your Xbox controller with your Windows PC. If you don’t want to be restricted to your keyboard for controls, this option can work out fairly well for you. It also comes in handy in multiplayer mode. The pairing process depends upon the generation that your controller belongs to. Here is a complete tutorial on how to sync an Xbox controller with a console or PC.
Connecting your Xbox controller to the console is easy since they’re on the same wireless standard. Once you figure out the placement of the pairing button on the console and controller, the whole thing becomes quite easy. However, in order to pair the controller with your PC, you need to figure out which generation of gear you’re using.
Older Xbox One controllers lack Bluetooth support. This can make connecting them to a PC tricky. To overcome this hurdle, you need to get your hands on a wireless USB dongle or adapter for your PC. This enables it to connect with the controller using the Xbox wireless standard. You can buy one on Amazon for as low as Rs 500. To figure out whether your controller supports Bluetooth, feel the finish of the plastic around the Guide button. If the finish is consistent with the face of the controller, it supports Bluetooth. If it has a different finish and a seam in the middle, you will need to get a wireless adapter.
Sync an Xbox controller with your console
Step 1: Press the Xbox button on the console and controller to turn them on.
Step 2: Press the pair button on the console.
Step 3: Within 20 seconds of pressing the pair button on the console, long-press the sync button on your controller.
Step 4: The Xbox button’s backlight will go into the breathing animation while the controller is syncing with the console. Once the two devices have synced, the light will become stable.
Sync an Xbox controller with your PC
Older Xbox controllers will require a wireless USB adapter to connect to a PC. Here’s how you can go about it.
Step 1: Plug the USB adapter for your Xbox controller into your PC.
Step 2: Press the Xbox button on the controller to turn it on.
Step 3: Hit the pair button on the adapter.
Step 4: Long-press the sync button on the controller. When the two devices are paired, the breathing light animation on the controller will become stable.
If you own a newer Xbox controller, you don’t need a wireless USB adapter to pair it with your PC. Just follow these steps.
Step 1: Press the Xbox button on your controller.
Step 2: Long-press the sync button on the controller for 3 seconds.
Step 3: Turn on the Bluetooth on your PC.
Step 4: Go to More Bluetooth Settings and select Add device.
Step 5: Select your Xbox controller from the list.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
How do I sync my Xbox controller to my PC?
Press the power button on the controller, then long-press the sync button for 3 seconds. On your PC, hit the Bluetooth icon in the taskbar, go to ‘More Bluetooth settings’, click on ‘Add device’, and select your controller from the list.
Why is my Xbox controller blinking and not connecting?
If your Xbox controller’s backlight keeps blinking, make sure its batteries are charged. If the controller uses disposable batteries, replace them with fresh ones.
Where is the pair button on Xbox?
The pair button is typically located below the power button or at the back of the console.
Do Xbox controllers have Bluetooth?
Newer Xbox controllers have Bluetooth to support wireless connection. This allows it to pair with your PC.
Why is my Xbox controller not connecting?
If your Xbox controller fails to connect with your PC or console, it could be due to a defective USB cable/adapter, low battery, unsupported devices, or interference with the wireless signal.

In India and globally, Samsung unveiled the updated Galaxy S25 series this year. It comes with the entry-level S25, S25+, and premium S25 Ultra models. Despite being the best of the lot, the S25 Ultra is also costly. You don’t have many options if you’re looking for a compact flagship. You might want to get the standard S25 or S25+. With a slightly larger screen and battery than the basic model, the Galaxy S25 Plus continues to be an upgraded version of the previous S Series, which has always been an upscale model. The Galaxy S25+ has been in our testing for approximately two weeks, and this review discusses our thoughts and assesses its positive aspects. Read our review of the Samsung Galaxy S25+ to know more.

Samsung Galaxy S25+ Review: Design and Display
Samsung has been improving the Galaxy S series’ design, saving the most major changes for the Ultra model (Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra Review). This year, the familiar glass sandwich design with flat front and rear sides and three distinct camera housings in the upper-left section of the rear is still in place.
Compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy S24+, not much has changed in design, including weight, density, connectors, buttons, and flat panel. Yes, everything is the same, but it’s not a terrible thing because the phone still feels high-end. In addition, the phone is large but lightweight. The titanium frames of the S25+ and S25 Ultra are similar. A flat display with a selfie camera punch hole and symmetrical, very undetectable bezels on both sides are located on the front.
The back surface is resistant to smudges and fingerprints thanks to its smooth matte feel.
Even without a case, this phone is pleasant to carry in one hand and is not at all slippery like other competing phones. For protection against any unintentional drops and scratches, we still advise using a case. All things considered, the phone is the perfect size—neither too large nor too small.
It can be tricky to distinguish the S25+ from the standard version since it only has a larger screen, measuring 6.7 inches compared to the 6.2-inch display of the S25. The screen size impacts the functionality of the device. The Plus model measures 158.4 x 75.8 x 7.3 mm, whereas the standard Galaxy S25 comes in at 146.9 x 70.5 x 7.2 mm.
The Galaxy S25 and S25+ have the same appearance, including the colour choices. Icy Blue, Silver Shadow, Navy, and Mint are the standard hues available for the S25 and S25+.
But keep in mind that Samsung has more unique colours—blue-black, coral-red, and pink-gold—set aside for its online stores.
The S25+ is constructed with two sheets of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 placed between an Armor Aluminium 2 middle frame. While still excellent, these materials are not quite as high-end as those found in the Ultra models. Because of its IP68 ingress protection, the phone should be able to withstand immersion in fresh water up to 1.5 meters deep for up to half an hour.
The base model and the Plus model have identical ports and buttons.
A SIM tray, a microphone, a Type-C connector, and a speaker grill are found at the bottom, while the power button and volume rocker are found on the right side of the frame. For quicker data transfers, this phone has a USB 3.2 Gen 1 port.
The 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen of the Samsung Galaxy S25+ has a 1,440 x 3,120 pixels resolution. The gadget has a peak brightness of 2,600 nits and a dynamic refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz. Additionally, Samsung increased the maximum brightness to 2,600 nits for all models.
With a crisp 513 PPI, the Galaxy S25+ packs more pixels than the 416 PPI screen of the standard S25, making everything look sharper, clearer, and more vibrant. But we can’t help but wish Samsung had brought over the anti-reflective Gorilla Armour Glass from the Ultra models. While these aren’t the absolute best displays in the business, they’re still plenty bright and comfortable for outdoor use—even under direct sunlight. The contrast is spot-on, delivering deep blacks, punchy whites, and excellent colour reproduction. After all, Samsung’s Galaxy S-Series has long been the gold standard for smartphone screens.
The vision booster allows for good contrast and colour saturation adjustment in bright and dark conditions. Therefore, watching videos on this phone is a delight, and the viewing experience is great.
Additionally, the touch reaction was quite responsive and good.
As for biometrics, the device’s ultrasonic under-display fingerprint sensor is the same as the previous generation, and it functions flawlessly; no adjustments are required in that area.
Samsung Galaxy S25+ Review: Performance and Cameras
The brilliant new Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, which powers the Samsung Galaxy S25+, is more potent and effective than the one from the previous year and provides improved connectivity. Exynos models were previously exclusive to India, but this time the company goes against standards by providing Qualcomm’s most recent flagship processor, the biggest improvement on this year’s Galaxy S-Series. Yes, across the entire lineup, which is fantastic. For better heat dissipation, the S24 lineup’s cooling system has also been updated and tuned. The Galaxy S25+ can better manage heat dissipation because of its bigger body.
This silicon made news by obtaining benchmark scores that were on par with—and in certain tests, even higher than—the Apple A18 Pro, the current frontrunner in smartphone processing. Higher benchmark results could result from Qualcomm’s “for Galaxy” processing of their chipsets, which slightly overclocks performance cores.
Geekbench 6 Results:

The RAM and storage capacities of the Galaxy S25 and S25 Plus differ slightly. The S25 comes with a base storage capacity of 12GB with 128GB, and it can be upgraded to 256GB or 512 GB. The storage capacity of the S25 Plus is 12GB with 256GB and a second 512GB option. sadly, there isn’t a MicroSD card slot to increase storage. The gadget can handle anything you put it through, including multitasking and the most draining games like Call of Duty Mobile and Asphalt 9. It also responds instantly. Apart from that, the phone performs wonderfully; multitasking is easy, and there are no lags or micro stutters in the animations.
Both versions have Galaxy AI built in, and they will be supported through Android 23 thanks to an amazing seven years of software support. Fantastic. The gadget, likewise, is running Android 15 with One UI 7 skinned on top. It’s still one of our favourite Android skins because of its clean, simple user interface. There are some pre-installed apps on the phone, but they are easily uninstallable. The variable refresh rate functions flawlessly when navigating between apps.
The design language and One UI experience are simply amazing. Without a doubt, this is among the most impressive user interfaces we have seen thus far.
Galaxy AI, an expanding collection of AI-powered tools that becomes increasingly user-friendly every year, is its most notable feature. The AI-powered features, which are the same as the Galaxy S25 series, are the main focus of the latest version. When you tap the Galaxy AI icon in the Samsung browser, for example, a new option called “read highlights aloud” appears. This option does just that, reading out what is on your screen. Although we’ve seen this function on iPhones for a while now, the S25 series now has it.
A new video editing tool called Audio Eraser listens to the audio in the video, recognises all the various sounds, and then allows you to enhance or minimise those sounds. Once again, this has long been a feature of iPhones and Pixels.
From the beginning, the Galaxy AI has been good, and this is still the case. One or two of the new AI functions in this edge panel are live. For example, AI Select is similar to smart select, but it is far more cognisant of what is on your screen. You will thus be presented with a few potential action options based on your selection, such as the ability to change the selected image into different artistic styles.
“Sketch to Assist” just got a glow-up—meet Drawing Assist! This upgraded tool lets you whip up brand-new images with a mix of styles, including 3D cartoons. Want to get creative? Just type in a prompt, and watch the magic happen. Pretty awesome, right?
We got our hands on the freshly updated Portrait Studio, and while the aesthetics have had a slight facelift, the core styles remain intact. The real game-changer? It just feels so much better. Plus, you can now throw in text prompts, meaning you’re no longer just tweaking portraits—you’re creating and customising almost anything.
We enjoyed how, inside the keyboard, they gave us the new sticker generator, which is extremely cool.
This brings us to the much talked about feature—the Now Brief, which has never been seen before. Samsung claims that to generate a summary of our day, it employs AI to extract apps and information. It’s good that you can choose which apps this functionality can access, and it seems to be device-based.
Right out of the box, Google Gemini will be activated when the lock button is held down. It will assist you with more complicated tasks like those that Google Assistant performs. For example, you may ask Gemini to find a nearby cafe that welcomes pets.
When we requested it to do so, these are the outcomes.
However, Bixby, which appears to have seen a significant improvement as well, is still available. Yes, two built-in assists are now available. That’s cool, isn’t it? But, under the settings, you can also return to the original Google Assistant.
There’s a lot to discuss about both of these digital assistants, of course, but to put it simply, Bixby employs Gemini, just like Siri uses ChatGPT for more complicated queries and tasks.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, which was developed specifically for Samsung, has also significantly improved the features of the Galaxy S25 Series. Since it is the fastest chip in any mobile phone, the S25 series will be the only one with some AI features, such as the Now Brief or AI Select and the enhanced Gemini and Bixby integration. Therefore, you might have to switch to one of the S25s if you were hoping to get those features in a later update.
Let’s now discuss optics. Samsung hasn’t changed the camera hardware from the previous iteration. A 10MP telephoto lens (3x optical zoom, F2.4, FOV 36), a 12MP ultra-wide sensor with a 120-degree field of view, and a 50MP sensor with OIS make up the triple rear camera configuration. The gadget has a 12MP front-facing camera for taking selfies and making video calls.
There are several options in the camera app, which is also quite easy to use.
In daylight, the main sensor in a 1x zoom can produce brilliant, vivid photographs with bold, saturated colours. Even if you take shots closer, the default f/1.8 aperture does not produce a very good natural blur effect. The photographs appear more inviting and natural since the hues are bright and lively. They are natural, not too much or too little, allowing you some editing flexibility.
The highlight controls are excellent, resulting in somewhat saturated colours. The management of bright areas in S25+ is among the best we’ve seen at this price point. The hues and textures turn out extremely well. The shadow processing has been improved, and detail levels have been increased. The dynamic range is superb; we found no issues. The S25+’s backlight processing is likewise excellent. In all of our backlight images, the subject is nicely exposed. There is no extreme contrast applied anywhere.
normal vs portrait
Aside from that, talking about the face and skin is subjective, but we’ve become accustomed to the Samsung Galaxy S-Series’ highly natural skin tone output. It, like its competitors, does not make the face appear brighter than necessary. This can be a disadvantage for many people, but it can also be beneficial for some; it all depends on you.
Ultra-wide shots on the S25+? Let’s just say they’re a mixed bag. The detail, shadows, and colours are decent, but the close-focus distance is just… average. Try getting too close, and forget about those dramatic ultra-wide shots. Edge sharpness? A bit soft—which isn’t exactly what you’d expect at this price point. Technically, the ultra-wide isn’t a showstopper in terms of sharpness, edge clarity, or focus distance. But credit where it’s due—colour reproduction, exposure, and processing is on point, delivering well-balanced shots even in backlight.
rear camera
Aside from that, in all of our outdoor shots, we’ve noted that the sky appears blue. Meaning that it adds a little more colour than the original blue.
Personally, in low-light situations, we are dissatisfied with the 1x performance. We expected crisper, brighter, and less noisy images, as advertised by the company, but we were disappointed because competing phones in this price range performed better. Noise appeared more easily in 1x shots. If you keep your hands steady, the phone’s night mode reduces noise while keeping good detail and exposure control.
night mode off vs night mode onnormal vs portrait
The telephoto lens boasts a 3X optical zoom and produces outstanding portrait shots with a well-focused subject and plenty of detail. However, when compared to other competitors, the S25+’s results are not particularly impressive. However, the face processing is among the best in this price range; it keeps texture in portraiture, the details are excellent, and the colours are exactly what we see with our eyes. Telephoto lenses maintain a good dynamic range.
Other phones in this category make the face very smooth and apply skin smoothing; the S25+ does not, however, you do have the option. Skin smoothing, for example, can be used, but it is not applied on its own, which results in a good texture, decent face processing, no overexposure, and excellent highlight management.
front camera
Selfies are taken in high detail thanks to the 12MP camera. You can shoot in either standard or ultra-wide mode. Colours are not too much as we see with our eyes. The rest of the clarity is good, as is the overall look. In contrast, nighttime selfies are softer and noisier.
The blur fall-off in portrait mode is also quite true to life; the edges are not entirely cut out, but rather blurred smoothly, which gives you a professional appearance.
portrait front camera
The Galaxy S25+ features good video stabilisation and can record videos at up to 8K@60fps. Footage options include UHD@30fps, FHD@30fps, and HD@30fps. However, recordings from both the front and back cameras turned out to be more steady. So, if you enjoy vlogging, this is probably one of the best options available.
Also, zooming in and out and switching between lenses is much smoother now, and while they have maintained the traditional zoom length settings, they have also introduced a zoom slider, which we greatly prefer and believe a lot more people will enjoy using.
Within the camera settings, under the advanced video option, you can now record in log mode. In simple terms, it provides extremely high-quality 8K cinematic log footage, which is a game changer. So for content creators and professional videographers, this is a huge update.
Verdict
So, that is the Samsung Galaxy S25+ for you. It’s not the most significant improvement we’ve seen, and it seems like Samsung could have done a little more for this middle child. However, whether or not it is worthwhile to upgrade is largely dependent on how you feel. However, for those searching for faster speed and the Galaxy’s new UI, AI features, and a larger display, the S25+ has its advantages.
In terms of brightness and colour accuracy, the Galaxy S25 and S25 Plus displays are essentially similar, with the latter having slightly higher brightness and colour accuracy. The S25 Plus delivers a better hands-on experience and better specifications than the standard model, with fewer compromises such as battery life and screen size.
Previous generations of standard and Plus models used different chipsets, with the Snapdragon CPU reserved for the premium Ultra and the Exynos chipset for the base and Plus versions. However, all versions now run the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy. That is a great thing.
Furthermore, all of the Galaxy AI features on the S25 Ultra have been extended to the S25 and S25+, which is a significant advantage.
So if you’ve finally decided you want a brand-new Galaxy flagship and will not go for a smaller, more compact, vanilla model? Then the Galaxy S25+ is your best option.

Infinix’s presence in the entry-level smartphone has grown substantially in the last couple of years. Its Smart HD series pushes the boundaries of the segment and offers tremendous value to those on a shoestring budget. Priced at Rs 6,699, the Infinix Smart 9 HD makes some crucial improvements over its predecessor. The smartphone gets a new octa-core chipset, a dual LED flash, a dual speaker setup, and IP54 ingress protection. We used the Infinix Smart 9 HD for a week, here is our review of the smartphone.
Here’s what you get inside Infinix Smart 9 HD’s retail box:
Smartphone
10W power adapter
USB Type-A to Type-C cable
Plastic case
SIM ejector
User manual
Warranty card
Infinix Smart 9 HD’s shell is made entirely out of plastic but it has a nice in-hand feel to it. The flat back panel has a matte finish and does not register any smudges or fingerprints. The square camera island has rounded corners. It houses two sensors and two LED flashlights. The glossy finish on the camera island offers a nice contrast to the matte finish of the back. The plastic case provided in the box fits the smartphone perfectly – offering protection to the important areas. Unlike most accessories that come along with entry-level smartphones, this case does not feel flimsy or cheap.
The plastic frame of the smartphone houses the hybrid SIM tray on its left edge. The 3.5 mm headphone jack, primary microphone, USB Type-C port, and primary speaker are positioned at the bottom. On the right lie the volume rocker keys and the side button. The secondary speaker grille is placed on the top.
Infinix Smart 9 HD carries forward the 90Hz IPS LCD panel from the previous model. This 6.7-inch is a smidge bigger than its last year’s counterpart. The brightness maxes out at 500 nits. The 720 x 1,600p resolution earns the smartphone the ‘HD’ tag. The selfie camera is housed in a punch-hole cutout on the display. There are sizeable bezels around the screen and they get thicker around the chin. The upper bezel has a small LED indicator that also acts as a front-facing flash for selfies. While there is no optical fingerprint scanner under the display, the side key handles the biometric duties.
The IPS display also offers a decent viewing experience. During the review period, we streamed content from OTT platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, and JioHotstar on the Infinix Smart 9 HD. The smartphone presented a good range of viewing angles along with delightful colours and detailed images. The dual speaker setup produces a loud audio output, but it sounds a little tinny due to the lack of a strong low end.
To top it off, the smartphone has an IP54 ingress protection. This makes it resistant to water splashes. You don’t have to worry about taking out the smartphone while it’s drizzling. However, constant exposure to water may weaken its protection capabilities.
Infinix Smart 9 HD Review: Performance and Cameras
One of the more important updates on the Infinix Smart 9 HD lies under its hood. The smartphone has replaced the feeble Unisoc processor from the previous model with a decent MediaTek Helio G50 octa-core chipset. It is available in a single 3GB RAM + 64GB storage variant. On the AnTutu benchmark test, the smartphone scored 142,515 points.
During the review period, we were pretty satisfied with the performance that the Infinix Smart 9 HD delivered on everyday use. The touch response is decent and the apps don’t take a lot of time to load. Even with 3-4 apps running in the background, the smartphone does not produce jitters and glitches. Routine tasks like video calling, IMing, social media browsing, and media streaming are handled well.
There is not much to be said about the gaming performance of the Infinix Smart 9 HD as the Media Helio G50 is an entry-level chipset. The device doesn’t meet the requirements to run titles like Asphalt Legends Unite and Call of Duty Mobile. This is also due to the limited internal storage capacity of the device. However, games like Subway Surfers and Bubble Shooter run smoothly and present no significant issues.
OS duties on the Infinix Smart 9 HD are handled by the Android 14 Go-based XOS 14. Since this is a ‘Go’ edition, you don’t get the full Android experience on the device. This is done to keep the OS light and breezy. It is an effective tradeoff as it improves the smartphone’s performance. Having said that, you will find features like app locker, XHide, Find My Device, and more.
There is minimal bloatware on the device. The native Gallery app is integrated with tools to clean, compress, and hide images. It can also create eye-catching collages from the images in the library. The Hi Translate app can translate text and images to any language of your choice. It also has an ‘Interpreter’ mode that can live-translate a conversation between two speakers.
The Infinix Smart 9 HD packs a 5,000mAh battery. The battery backup lasts an entire day with ease. After a day of regular use, we were left with ~20% charge. The 10W power adapter provided inside the box takes up to 3 hours to fully charge the device. We would’ve preferred slightly faster charging.
The rear camera panel packs a 13MP primary shooter and a depth sensor. In outdoor daylight conditions, this camera takes decent pictures with rich colours. The images are slightly soft, but that’s something we expect from an entry-level smartphone. However, the depth and richness of colours make up for the lack of details.
Portrait Shots
Portraits taken by the Infinix Smart 9 HD are sharp and focused but there’s little to no background blur. The native camera app does not have a dedicated Night Mode. This makes photography in limited lighting quite challenging. The resulting images are grainy and dark. On the bright side, the 8MP front-facing camera takes good selfies. The front-facing LED flash comes in handy while taking selfies in indoor conditions.
As far as entry-level smartphones go, the Infinix Smart 9 HD is an incredible deal under Rs 7,000. It is an ideal device for users who are primarily interested in watching content, browsing social media, and taking pictures. The new MediaTek Helio G50 chipset is a great improvement over the Unisoc processor on the previous model. The improved IP54 ingress protection is also a great feature to have on your side.
