According to government statistics, nearly half of the country’s yearly imports of laptops, tablets, and personal computers—which equal 1.5 percent of all imports—come from China.
According to the representative, two businesses have already requested import licences. He even made it clear that a single business may seek many licences.
In a statement, the government announced that it will immediately impose limitations on the importation of laptops, tablets, and personal computers that come within the HSN 8741 category.
According to a government official, 44 firms, including HP, have previously registered under PLI 2.0 schemes, thus there is no connection between this restriction and the allegedly limited adoption of PLI 2.0. The prices of those goods, including laptops, tablets, personal computers, and more will also be impacted by the new curbs. Additionally, there won’t be any delays for goods in transit.

By providing incentives tied to production in more than two dozen industries, including electronics, the government has been attempting to promote domestic manufacture. To boost local output, the government has already imposed high taxes on goods like mobile phones.
