The second iteration of Zoom’s AI assistant, the AI Companion 2.0, can now do a wider range of functions. The company’s AI-powered collaboration platform, Zoom Workplace, offers the new assistant along with access to Zoom Mail and Zoom Tasks. Furthermore, Zoom has introduced personalised AI avatars, enabling users to capture a video and create an AI clone that can mimic their speech.
At Zoomtopia, Zoom revealed Zoom AI Companion, the company’s next generation of AI personal assistant. This AI assistant is free of charge and comes with a custom add-on that improves the experience to match the unique requirements of an organisation. Account owners and users may download Zoom Workplace’s most recent version (version 6.2.5) from the Zoom website to take advantage of the new capabilities when it becomes available later this month.
Smita Hashim, chief product officer at Zoom during the announcement said, “At Zoom, being an AI-first work platform means AI is at the heart of Zoom Workplace to support you throughout your day. Now, with the enhanced capabilities in AI Companion 2.0, users can get more done and focus on what’s most important. And, with the new custom add-on for AI Companion, organisations will have the ability to tailor AI Companion to their specific needs and workflows at an affordable price.”

AI Companion 2.0, a side panel that uses trustworthy, ethical AI to help people remain informed, make decisions more quickly, and take action, will be available through Zoom Workplace.
Zoom AI Companion 2.0 is a cutting-edge technology that prioritises tasks and produces outcomes to help users’ workdays go more smoothly. By dynamically choosing from a variety of models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta, and AI services like Perplexity.ai, it takes advantage of Zoom’s collaborative AI methodology.
Zoom Meetings, Zoom Team Chat, Zoom Docs, Zoom Calendar, and Zoom Mail are all accessible via a handy side panel provided by AI Companion throughout Zoom Workplace. With information from several sources, such as uploaded files, Gmail, Google Calendar, and Microsoft Outlook, it broadens the context. AI Companion retains the memories of prior exchanges and discussions. Meeting summaries may be used to create the next actions, which can then be automatically converted into Zoom Tasks, which will be made accessible in December 2024. In order to keep track of team discussions, it also provides an overview of unread messages in a Zoom Team Chat channel. Users may get a list of updates based on unread emails and conversations on the new home tab. Furthermore, without having to read every message, AI Companion may summarise email chains in Zoom Mail.
The company goes on to say that by specifying meeting summaries, chat messages, documents, email threads, calendar entries, and local documents on the user’s computer, the AI Companion offers a tool to keep conversations focused and impactful. It also offers real-time information search capabilities and improved results. Additionally, it provides real-time online search functionality for current information. By asking questions on subjects outside of the meeting setting, maintaining focus on the issue at hand, and referring back to previous talks inside the side panel, AI Companion assists users in gathering information during meetings. In addition, it enables users to review previous conversations held on the side panel and provide questions regarding the topics covered in meetings.
Companies may tailor the Zoom AI Companion experience to their requirements by adding the custom AI Companion add-on. AI Companion can do tasks more quickly and spend less time looking for solutions since it is grounded in business data from both internal and external applications. A personalised coach and custom avatar clips are examples of customisation features. With access to data from Zoom and third-party applications like Atlassian, Glean, Workday, Zendesk, ServiceNow, Box, Asana, and Hubspot, organisations can make better decisions and take better actions thanks to the add-on’s improved AI Companion capabilities.
Employees may better organise their workday and save time by using this to find information and handle tasks. AI Companion can do activities inside Zoom products and third-party solutions like ServiceNow, Zendesk, Box, and others thanks to third-party integrations. Users may ask AI Companion to offer meeting and action item summaries, start AI processes, and summarise Microsoft Teams and Google Meet calls.

By adding custom dictionaries, meeting summary templates, and knowledge collections to enhance answer accuracy and extend context to other data sources, Zoom AI Studio users can personalise their experiences. Companies may tailor AI Companion replies to their business and company by adding their glossary of terms. In addition to accessing a variety of company data, such as HR regulations and support articles, users may design personalised meeting summary templates. Moreover, AI Studio enables users to develop AI skills to expand AI Companion capabilities into additional workloads, such as completing tasks on users’ behalf or fulfilling service requests based on meetings.
To improve communication and presentation abilities, a personal coach may be added. The coach will analyse user interactions in Zoom Meetings, Zoom Team Chat, email, and Zoom Phone to find trends and establish personal goals. By employing a customised AI-generated avatar to produce clips with a transcript, custom avatars for Zoom Clips enable users to scale the generation of video clips. Priced around $12 per user each month, the personalised AI Companion add-on should be accessible for purchase in the first half of 2025.
