The Chinese tech giant company One Plus is going to enter the competition by launching its first-ever foldable smartphone. Pre-teasing, the company hinted the smartphone to be named OnePlus Open and is expected to compete with Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Google Pixel Fold.
OnePlus tweeted about the launch saying “We OPEN when others FOLD”. As per reports, the launch event might take place in New York on August 29, 2023. To recall, the company’s head Pete Lau shared the first look of the upcoming foldable smartphone a few months back at its OnePlus 11 event. There are various speculations regarding the design and features. Let’s take a look at them.

Expected Design and Features of OnePlus One
OnePlus is ready to enter the spotlight of foldable phones and is soon going to launch its first-ever foldable smartphone. Although there are no official reports regarding the specifications several leaks and rumours are surfacing online regarding the key design and specifications of the OnePlus One. Let’s take a look at some of the speculated features and specifications:
- Design and Display: The much-awaited OnePlus Open is speculated to have an outward folding design and will be available in Black and Green colours. Reports suggest that the phone might have a 7.8-inch 2K AMOLED primary display and a 6.3-inch AMOLED cover screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. Both screens are likely to support a 120Hz refresh rate. In terms of design, it will probably have an outward folding design and will be available in two colour options; green and black.
- Performance and Storage: OnePlus Open is anticipated to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. Note that the same chipset has been used on the just-released Samsung Galaxy Fold 5. It might potentially have 8GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage. The phone is also expected to have a 4800mAh battery.
- Camera: The primary feature that GenZ are looking for in their smartphones is the camera for their love of photography. OnePlus Open will include 50MP primary storage with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), a 48MP secondary sensor having an ultra-wide lens, 32MP tertiary sensor equipped with a periscope lens at the rear. The front camera is expected to house two 32MP sensors.
- Availability: Speculations suggest that the OnePlus foldable phone might get launched in its home market first which is China, followed by a global launch. Availability regarding the Indian market is unknown, but India and the US are on the list.
These are speculated features as per rumours and leaks. However, if these features remain the same OnePlus Open will pose a threat to Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Google Pixel Fold.

Until an official notification is out more specifications cannot be speculated about OnePlus Foldable Phone. The phone is speculated to be similar to Oppo Find N2. OnePlus Open will initially launch in China at the end of September 2023. It will launch in the rest of the countries either at the end of the year or early next year.
