Malware problem and attacks on or from Google Play Store apps are not a new phenomenon. We do see apps getting removed regularly from the Play Store which violates its policy. This time a new Agent Smith malware has emerged on the largest app store for mobiles. Agent Smith malware blasts a flurry of advertisements on your Android smartphone. A total of 16 known apps have been infected by this malware. Check Point who is a partner with Google was the first to detect the malware. After the report, Google has immediately removed the apps from the Play store.

Alphabet-owned company has already removed 16 apps and they are looking out for more which might be infected. The malware when deployed in a smartphone starts infecting some of the internal files also and might send ads even after the app is removed or uninstalled. So, it is a good idea to run a malware scan from a known source. Good anti-malware are available on the Play Store, so download one swiftly if your phone has been infected. But before you do this, uninstall the app from your smartphone since Google can not do that for you, they can just wipe them off the Play Store.

If that does not solve the problem, you might want to do a factory reset, as the expert’s advice. But that is one-off case, in all likelihood a scan using a good anti-malware will take care of the issue.
