In order to offer a plug-and-play approach for the cloud radio network connection that will enhance efficiencies, India’s largest integrated telecommunications company Airtel along with Sercomm , a leading manufacturer and supplier of telecom equipment, have now announced the launch of world’s first vRAN-based TDD small cell.
“At Airtel, we are obsessed with our customers and adding value to their lives with our offerings. The introduction of TDD small cells would enable us to further enhance our indoor network connectivity and delight our customers with a superior indoor experience. We are happy to partner with Sercomm for this technology innovation and look forward to working closely with them as we continue building a future ready network,” said Randeep Sekhon, CTO, Bharti Airtel.
With Split Option 2 technology, the distributed unit (DU) utilizes various broadband links as a backhaul connecting to the cloud-based radio network. The small cell not only greatly improves operation reliability, but also facilitates a heterogeneous network. By adopting an open, distributed and split RAN (Radio Access Network) architecture, Aitel can efficiently upgrade from 4G to 5G path.
Stressing that Sercomm has devoted significant R&D resources in finding innovative solutions to deliver enhanced telecommunication services, James Wang, CEO of Sercomm, said, “Through the collaboration with Airtel, we look forward to continuing technology innovation on the path to revolutionary breakthrough. We are pleased to team up with an industry leader like Airtel in realizing a next generation mobile network. Together we will open a new era for telecommunication service.”
Recently, Airtel became the first operator in India to deploy vRAN-based 4G network, leveraging Altiostar’s open vRAN solution across multiple major cities in the sub-continent. The solution has 5G-ready software and would provide seamless evolution to 5G using the same architecture.
By partnering with Altiostar’s Open vRAN software, Airtel can facilitate further innovation and cost efficiencies in their radio networks. With cloud-based open vRAN technologies being the cornerstone for network slicing, Airtel is also setting the foundation for rolling out 5G services, applications and multiple use cases. Altiostar’s Open vRAN solution is an innovative architecture and technology for maximizing the hardware efficiency, performance and network agility for next generation 5G networks.
Therefore, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that Airtel is consistently strengthening its network architecture with innovative technology break-through.
