Amazon to roll out an updated interface for Fire TV Stick (3rd gen) and Fire TV Stick Lite

With the rollout of the new UI update, it brings redesigned and new navigation settings to Amazon Fire TV Stick (3rd gen) and Fire TV Stick Lite.

Amazon Fire TV Stick (3rd gen) and Fire TV Stick Lite will soon get a redesigned user interface update. This brings features such as a simplified Main Menu, Find destination, user Profiles, and voice-first experience with Alexa. To recall both the popular range of streaming devices were launched in September this year and runs on  Amazon’s Fire TV OS. According to the company, the new Fire TV experience will be rolling out to both devices over the coming weeks. 

With the rollout of the new UI update, it brings redesigned and new navigation settings to Amazon Fire TV Stick (3rd gen) and Fire TV Stick Lite. The Main Menu will now be shown at the center of the screen to allow users to easily navigate through Home, Find, Live, Library, Profiles and more. One can also search for popular content and watch trailers by clicking up while clicking down to browse expanded rows of shows and movies. This will let you access apps, channels and games with the ability to pin and rearrange the order of your apps so you can easily access your favorites. In addition to this you can now scroll over the app icon to quickly peek at what’s inside and begin playback, or simply jump into the app itself.

How to customise the order of your apps, channels, and games in the Main Menu 

  • Firstly focus on an app which you’d like to move
  • Then click the menu icon on your remote and select Move
  • Now simply move the app to the desired position 

The Home Screen has been revamped and it now features content tailored to each profile and its user’s viewing preferences. Search for shows and movie recommendations from subscription-based streaming services like Prime Video, Zee5, SonyLiv and Voot plus free content from ad-supported apps. These recommendations will appear in the ‘Popular Movies & TV Shows’ section.

In addition to the revamped UI the Fire TV Stick (3rd gen) and Fire TV Stick Lite now also get a dedicated Find Tab to filter content like Movies or TV shows or search recommended categories like Comedy, Action or Adventure. One can also filter movies or TV shows from the subscription-based apps or content which is available for free or simply ask Alexa.

Apart from this, the users can now create up to six user profiles on Fire TV for a personalised experience. This feature will let each person in a household access their viewing history, recommendations, watch list, live TV preferences, and select settings, including accessibility features. After setting up your Alexa Voice Profile, switching Fire TV profiles is as simple as saying “Alexa, switch to my profile.”

How to set up a new Profile

  • To set up a new profile for yourself simply say Profile or go to the Home Screen and select Profiles
  • Select add profile
  • Now select a new profile else you can also choose existing profiles from other services, like Prime Video.
  • Choose a name and icon for your profile.

In order to create an Alexa Voice Profile, press the voice button on your remote and say “Alexa, learn my voice.” Else open the Alexa app on your smartphone and go to more and select settings. From there select Profile and next to Voice tap Create and then hit on Continue. On doing this the Alexa voice assistant will let you use  your voice to navigate throughout the UI, just say “Alexa, go to Live” or “Alexa, go to Find.” You can also say things like “Alexa, show me action movies” or “Alexa, switch to my profile.”

On the other hand, the Main Menu bar will also be featuring a Live Tab to get access to shows currently on-air or use the Channel Guide to browse for live sports, news, and TV channels. One can also directly visit their watchlist by visiting the Library on the Main Menu bar.
