Tech Giant Google has officially announced the rollout of Dark Mode for Google Search on the desktop. The users have now been updated with a three-option that will show up in the Google search appearance settings. The search engine will now include the option to keep the search synced with the desktop’s default theme which will be helpful to the users if they have chosen a specific time to turn on/off Dark mode. Here is how you can enable Google to search dark mode on your desktop.
After being under testing, Google has officially rolled out settings to enable dark mode on the computer for the search engine. This feature will reduce eye strain, making them easier to use during dark environments or at night. This would be similar to the dark mode function which comes on the smartphone apps but now the users can enable it for their desktop with three options- Device default, Dark, or Light to choose from. The new settings will be applicable to Google Homepage, the search results, settings and some of the linked web pages. The feature is now being rolled out for the users in a staged manner and will soon reach all the users in the coming weeks. So here is our guide on how you can toggle between the new Dark Mode settings for Google Search on desktop.
Step by step guide on how to enable Dark mode for Google Search on Computer
- Simply open Google Search on your Web browser.
- Now at the top right, click Settings and then go to search settings
- After this on the left tap on the Appearance.
- Then select your preferred option from the three options:
Device Default: This option matched the colour theme of your current device
Dark: As the name suggests the given option will enable light text on a dark background.
Light: The option will turn dark text on a light background
- Now choose your desired option and hit save.

Hi. I tried checking in the setting as described here but I simply can’t find the ‘Appearance’ section at all. It’s just ‘search results’, ‘languages’ and ‘help’. I can’t find a way to update Chrome either. Please help.
Probably your browser is not updated as yet, wait for the update to come. Google is rolling out updates in phases
