Sony has expanded its 1000X series with the launch of Sony WH-1000XM5 wireless noise-cancelling headphones. The WH-1000XM5 features Sony’s most advanced noise cancellation technology yet, with two processors controlling eight microphones that dramatically reduce noise, particularly in the mid-high frequency range. An Auto NC Optimiser that optimises noise cancellation automatically based on the environment.
The WH-1000XM5 utilises the Integrated Processor V1 to fully utilise Sony’s HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN1, while the specially designed 30mm driver unit improves noise cancellation. As per the company, the carbon fibre composite material used in the specially designed 30mm driver unit with a light and rigid dome improves high-frequency sensitivity for more natural sound quality. A new noiseless design with a stepless slider is beautifully finished in a newly developed soft fit leather. The new synthetic soft fit leather material fits snugly around the head, relieving pressure on your ears and blocking out outside noise, allowing you to listen comfortably all day.
Thanks to Sony’s industry-adopted audio coding technology, LDAC, provides premium, high-resolution audio both with and without wires. With the use of DSEE Extreme, which upscales digital music files in real-time, all of your music will be restored to high-resolution sound. These new headphones are 360 Reality Audio Certified, allowing you to enjoy a personalised immersive music experience.
The Sony WH-1000XM5 wireless noise-cancelling headphones allow you to take calls from anywhere. Sony’s precise Voice Pickup technology isolates your voice with perfect precision using four beamforming microphones and an AI-based noise reduction structure, while a newly developed wind noise reduction structure reduces wind noise during calls.
The WH-1000XM5 uses Adaptive Sound Control to make the transition seamless. This adapts sound to your surroundings automatically, recognising your favourite spots and adjusting the ambient sound settings accordingly. Quick Access is built into the WH-1000XM5, allowing you to configure these headphones to resume Spotify playback with two or three taps without having to touch your smartphone.
According to the company, the Sony Headphones Connect app also helps you listen to music safely by comparing sound pressure data recorded by your headphones with World Health Organization guidelines (WHO). When listening levels are too high, you will receive immediate OS notifications. Furthermore, the headphones have smart features that will help you sail through each day with ease. You can stop for a quick conversation and your headphones will automatically turn off the music and let in ambient sound thanks to Speak-to-Chat. When your conversation is finished, the music continues to play, and thanks to an instant pause, your personal soundtrack will stop playing as soon as you remove the headphones.
The WH-1000XM5 is also Google Assistant and Alexa compatible, so you can get hands-free assistance on the go. The audio device can be paired with two devices at the same time. With the touch of a button, you can quickly switch between devices.
