The biggest challenge of taking a group photo is including everyone in the shot. Sure, there are some workarounds. Compared to the Pixel 8, the Google Pixel 9 boasts a more streamlined appearance with a metal frame and a flat, matte-finished glass shell. Its rear panel features a dual camera configuration with an LED flash and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection. The back of the Pixel 8 is glossy, flat, and features rounded corners. Although both phones have IP68 ratings for water and dust resistance, the Pixel 9 is more durable.

The Google Pixel 9 has a larger 6.3-inch screen with 1,800 nits of brightness and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection, while the other phone’s display characteristics are similar. Both offer a similar viewing experience thanks to an OLED panel with 120Hz refresh rate and Full-HD+ resolution.

The Tensor G4 SoC included in Google’s Pixel 9 replaces the Tensor G3 SoC found in the Pixel 8. With Android 14 out of the box, Google promises seven years of upgrades, security patches, and Pixel drop updates for both the Pixel 9 and Pixel 8. While the AI features on both devices are comparable, the Pixel 9 comes with additional features like Pixel Screenshots, Add Me, and Reimagine AI.

With a 48MP ultrawide lens compared to the Pixel 8’s 12MP, the Google Pixel 9 has a better camera system than the Pixel 8. This leads to more detailed and crisper ultrawide photos

Compared to the Pixel 8, the Google Pixel 9 boasts a larger 4,700mAh battery with 27W charging and reverse charging capabilities. Nevertheless, the Pixel 9’s wireless charging capability has been reduced; it can now only support 15W when using the Pixel stand or 12W when using any other Qi-compatible wireless charger.

Last year, OnePlus set the bar for midrange Android tablets by releasing its debut ‘Pad’. This year, the Chinese tech company launched the second iteration of the Pad with a bigger display, more power, improved audio, and minor design tweaks. If you don’t want to splurge an exorbitant amount of money on Samsung’s premium tablets, the OnePlus Pad 2 is the next best thing. Sure, it makes some trade-offs to keep the price down, but it does not compromise any power to get there. The flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset at the heart of this tablet is an immense step up from the Dimensity 9000 SoC in its predecessor. You can get a lot of value out of the Pad 2’s Rs 40,000 price tag. We used the tablet for a couple of weeks, putting it through a series of tasks and benchmark tests. OnePlus Pad 2 Review: Design and Display

OnePlus pretty much nailed the form factor and design of its debut tablet so we’re not surprised by the lack of any radical aesthetic changes on the Pad 2. There are some minor tweaks, though. The tablet is available in a single ‘Nimbus Gray’ colour scheme. The radial pattern has been ditched for a much better matte texture. The circular cutout at the top of the aluminium back panel has been retained and houses a 13MP sensor and LED flash.

The edges of the aluminium frame are rounded on three sides and offer a very good grip. The top edge is flattened at the centre to accommodate the magnetic strip for the stylus. It also houses the volume rocker keys and microphone. The bottom edge has a three-pin magnetic connector for the keyboard folio case. On the left edge lies the side button. The USB Type-C port is positioned on the right. These side edges also house the six-speaker setup. There is no 3.5mm headphone jack on this tablet.

OnePlus Pad 2’s 12.1-inch display is noticeably larger than its 2023 counterpart. This is still an IPS LCD panel as AMOLED displays are hard to come by in this price segment. Nevertheless, the pictures produced by this display are vibrant and pack a good level of contrast. Its 2,120 x 3,000p resolution plays its part in maintaining a superior image quality and packing a lot of details. This LCD panel can now reach a peak brightness of 900 nits and adapt its refresh rate to 144Hz.

What really seals the multimedia experience on the OnePlus Pad 2 is its exquisite six-speaker setup. The audio output is loud enough to fill the room. This output doesn’t get distorted even at 100% volume. The soundstage has a very prominent low end, which many midrange Android tablets struggle to replicate. There’s Spatial & Holo Audio tech on board to take the movie-watching experience to the next level. We streamed a bunch of titles across OTT apps like Netflix, Disney+ Hostar, and Prime Video, and never once felt the need to switch to our headphones.

Last year’s OnePlus Pad had the respectable MediaTek Dimensity 9000 SoC doing the heavy work. This year, OnePlus has kicked things up a notch by equipping the Pad 2 with Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. The astonishing thing is that Pad 2 debuts at the same price as its predecessor. The 8GB RAM (LPDDR5X) + 128GB Storage (UFS 3.1) variant is priced at Rs 40,000 while the 12GB RAM + 256GB Storage model fetches Rs 43,000.

We used our OnePlus Pad 2 review unit for a variety of tasks. Our average day started with checking emails on the tablet followed by browsing the web for news and catching up on social media feeds. The Pad 2 was our primary device for video calling and media streaming. The tablet handled multitasking expertly without throwing any lags or delays our way. The apps loaded instantly, the touch response was smooth, and the device kept up with our pace. We ran the Geekbench 6 app on the Pad 2 and it returned 940 points in the single-core test and 4,548 points in the multi-core test.

Playing gaming titles like Call of Duty Mobile and Asphalt Legends Unite proved to be an enjoyable experience on the OnePlus Pad 2. The tablet maintained a steady performance even on maximum graphics and did not cause any frame drops. The back panel started heating up after 40 minutes of gameplay. The general gripe we have with tablet gaming does not lie with the performance but the stubbornness of Android games to adapt their layout to larger displays. Most games are just stretched-out versions of their mobile counterparts. Oftentimes, this messes with the controls.

Good software is the key to unlocking the potential of a large display and that is precisely what OxygenOS 14.1 does on the OnePlus Pad 2. The software is well-optimised for the tablet’s layout. Apart from Netflix and WPS Office, there is no bloatware on this tablet. The clean look of the OS earns the tablet additional points.

Split window multitasking is an integral part of this tablet. It allows the user to run three apps in split-screen mode and seamlessly switch among them. The dock at the bottom comes in handy while switching among apps. We particularly like the option to drag and drop images from your device’s storage to any target destination with ease. You can also use the File Dock in the sidebar to quickly store documents or images.

AI Summary, as the name suggests, generates a summary of any article or text. These tools can be triggered from the sidebar. The native recorder app can transcribe and summarise your voice memos. It does a great job of avoiding the weird pauses and utterances. The transcription is accurate and well punctuated.

The OnePlus Pad 2 packs a massive 9,510mAh battery pack. OnePlus claims over 40 hours of battery life on standby mode. While we didn’t use the tablet for that long, we can attest that the overnight battery drainage was negligible. On average, we used the tablet for up to 4 hours every day. On a full charge, the device lasted up to 2 days, which is pretty impressive. Our daily tasks on the OnePlus Pad 2 during the review period included web browsing, video calling, instant messaging, and gaming. Using the 67W charger provided in the box, it took us just over an hour to fully charge the device.

Moving on, the camera performance of the OnePlus Pad 2 is pretty standard for a tablet. Its 13MP primary shooter takes passable pictures in outdoor daylight conditions. The camera angle of this tablet isn’t as wide as the average smartphone camera lens. The resulting images are vibrant, albeit a little soft. In limited lighting, the camera produces dim and grainy images.

We don’t mind the ordinary camera performance too much because the primary job of the camera system is to deliver a consistent video-calling experience. The OnePlus Pad 2 does this with ease. The 8MP selfie camera is positioned on the longer bezel, which means the tablet needs to be aligned in a landscape position during video calls.

Verdict

When it comes to midrange Android tablets, the OnePlus Pad 2 is as good as it gets. You get a lot of value for the Rs 40,000 price tag. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC puts up a rock-solid performance, powering the tablet through demanding tasks. The six-speaker setup on this tablet is one of its understated highlights. It singlehandedly elevates the media viewing experience to another level. On the OS front, you get a bunch of AI features which is something most Android tablets in this price range cannot boast about. All things considered, it is hard not to make a case for the OnePlus Pad 2 to be one of the best Android tablets in the market right now.

Google has released its third-generation smartwatch, the Pixel Watch 3, in India, with up to 36 hours of battery life and two display sizes. The wearable debuted alongside the latest Pixel 9 smartphones and Pixel Buds Pro 2. The watch is available in 41mm and 45mm display sizes. It also includes Fitbit’s advanced fitness capabilities and a first-of-its-kind loss of pulse detection mechanism, which might save lives.

The Pixel Watch 3 has two display sizes: 41mm and 45mm, and uses Google’s Actua display, as opposed to the previous model’s AMOLED screen. It has a peak brightness of 2,000nits. They also automatically adapt to as low as 1 nit in dark surroundings for a more discrete look. It has narrower bezels than its predecessor. The displays are larger due to thinner bezels: the 45mm watch has 40% more screen, while the 41mm has 10% more screen than the Pixel Watch 2. Both are more power efficient, with refresh rates ranging from 60Hz to 1Hz in always-on displays.

The Pixel Watch 3 has efficient screens, Wear OS 5, and a hybrid architecture to ensure long battery life. Cardio Load helps you track your workout by measuring heart rate and intensity throughout the day. It also monitors patterns over time to help you determine whether you’re over- or under-training, maintaining or improving your fitness.

Every morning, the Fitbit Morning Brief generates a personalised workout target based on recent cardio load and readiness. It helps individuals improve their fitness while balancing recovery. The daily digest covers sleep, readiness, target cardio load, and weekly activity goals. The app also displays weather and notifies users if measures such as HRV, SpO2, or Skin Temperature are outside of their specific range. This allows you to easily set and track your daily fitness goals.

The Buds Pro 3 is likely to be launched in India, with an expected price of around Rs 12,000, up from the previous OnePlus Buds Pro 2 which was launched in February last year.

The OnePlus Buds Pro 3 are rumoured to have dual drivers, an 11mm woofer and a 6mm tweeter. The adaptive noise cancellation on the Buds Pro 2 is just 49 dB, yet Buds Pro 3 claims to deliver up to 50 dB.

You may be wondering, how the Wallet app is able to scan and recognise literally any piece of document in front of it. The answer is AI. When you scan a document, the Wallet app extracts the key information on it and uses AI to figure out what kind of document it is. OnePlus launched its new R Series smartwatch alongside the new Nord 4 smartphone and Pad 2 tablet. Like the R Series smartphones, the OnePlus Watch 2R makes a great flagship alternative. It matches most of the specs of the Watch 2 while undercutting its price by Rs 5,000. If you’re looking for a relatively affordable Android smartwatch that doesn’t compromise power there aren’t many smartwatches that fit the bill more perfectly than the Watch 2R. We used it for a week to see if it matches up to its flagship counterpart. Here is our in-depth review of the OnePlus Watch 2R.

The key difference between the OnePlus Watch 2 and 2R is the build material. The former sports a stainless steel frame while the latter comes in an aluminium alloy casing. This means that the Watch 2R is lighter than its flagship counterpart. Without the strap, it weighs 37g, making it 12g lighter than the Watch 2. With the wrist strap attached to the dial, the Watch 2 and 2R weigh 80g and 59g respectively.

OnePlus Watch 2R gets Panda glass protection instead of Sapphire crystal which guards the Watch 2’s display. Its flat AMOLED display is slightly different from the curved panel on the Watch 2. The 1.43-inch unit has a 466p resolution and a default brightness of 600 nits which can be pushed to 1,000 nits in High Brightness Mode. Needless to say, wearing this watch outdoors was an absolute delight. Not once did we encounter any brightness issues with the display. It remained legible even under direct sunlight.

design

Being an AMOLED panel, the colours produced by this display are vibrant and punchy. The touch response is exquisite, to say the least. We did not experience any stutters or delays while navigating the watch. The circular bezel surrounding the display has chronometric markings painted on it.

The right edge of the frame contains two physical buttons. The plastic panel at the bottom houses the sensor array, charging strip, and microphone. There is no physical crown on the watch, even though it is easy to confuse the top button with one. Pressing this button when you’re on the home screen takes you to the app drawer. When you’re on any other page, this button takes you back to the home screen. The Multifunction button is dedicated to opening the workout menu no matter which page you’re on. This button can be customised to trigger other functions and apps on your watch as well. The only customisable gestures for the top button are double-press and long-press.

The silicone strap uses a pin and buckle mechanism to wrap around the wrist. The high-end quality of this wrist strap is reflected in its comfort. Even after wearing the watch for multiple days and putting it through sweaty workouts, we did not feel any itchiness. The Watch 2R is rated IP68 for dust and water resistance. It can handle 5ATM of water pressure. You can wear this watch while swimming. However, the Watch 2R is not MIL-STD-810H compliant like its flagship sibling.

OnePlus Watch 2R Review: Performance 

Powering the OnePlus Watch 2R are the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 and BES2700BP chipsets. It is nice to see the affordable alternative to the flagship not be held back by an older or inferior chipset. OnePlus earns brownie points from us for that. The BES2700BP chipset takes care of tasks like background heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, and more. It takes over the control of the watch when it is set to power-saving mode.

OnePlus Watch 2R Review: Performance 

OS duties on the smartwatch are handled by Google’s Wear OS 4 and OnePlus’ ColorOS Watch 6.0. The former taps into the power of the Snapdragon W5 chip and brings the Android experience to the watch. You can install apps directly on the watch using the Google Play Store. When you switch to the power-saving mode, the Color OS takes over and extends the battery life of the device. Access to the Play Store and third-party apps is revoked in this mode. This dual-OS configuration is something we enjoy a lot. We hope other OEMs are able to incorporate it into their wearables as well.

As far as health and fitness tracking go, the OnePlus Watch 2R records accurate data. Its Spo2 and heart rate readings were consistent with medical-grade equipment. The margin of error in step counting was minimal. We were also satisfied with the comprehensive sleep data that the watch collected in one cycle. Not only does it break down the sleep phases, but it also keeps a record of the snoring pattern, tracks the respiratory rate, and measures the heart rate and blood oxygen levels. If the quality of your sleep is not up to par, you can use the snoring data to assess your breathing problems and use the phone’s mic to monitor the surrounding noise levels while you sleep.

The smartwatch also does a fine job of tracking exercises and workouts. You can turn on automatic detection for certain workouts using the OHealth companion app. The watch can also track a wide range of sports like Cricket, Baseball, Rugby, Golf, Curling, Ice Hockey, Surfing, and more. If you like to golf, you’ll enjoy third-party apps like Hole19 and mScorecard. This is something that isn’t possible on the generic, run-of-the-mill smartwatches that do not run Android Wear OS.

Another great aspect of using an Android smartwatch is that you never run out of watch faces. The OHealth app has a diverse library of native watch faces for the Watch 2R. On top of that, you can install paid and free watch faces from the Play Store. If there’s one gripe we have with the Watch 2R it’s that it takes around a minute to transfer a watch face from the app and apply it to the dial.

Making and receiving calls on the Watch 2R is a seamless experience. The microphone on the watch does a good job of extracting the speaker’s voice from the background noise and relaying it to the caller. App support for WhatsApp and Gmail makes sure you don’t miss any important messages or emails on the go. We’d like to see Telegram come out with a smartwatch app as well.

OnePlus Watch 2R Review: Performance 

Oftentimes, a good smartwatch is let down by its weak power backup. We are pleased to report that this is not the case here. This is largely due to the 500mAh battery unit along with the dual-chipset and dual-OS combination. We got more than 2 days of battery life on this watch with the AOD and background health monitoring turned on. During the review period, we also worked out for an average of 40 minutes every day while wearing the OnePlus Watch 2R. This battery life can easily be pushed to 3 days with AOD turned off.

What’s great about this smartwatch is that you can turn off its ‘smarter’ features and run it in power-saving mode to push its battery life to 12 days. When placed in this mode, the watch’s BES2700BP chipset and custom OS take over, making the Wear OS features dormant. Having the option to get more mileage out of the smartwatch is quite amazing. The magnetic charging base that comes with the watch connects to a USB Type-C cable and fully charges the device in under an hour.

Verdict

The OnePlus Watch 2R is an impressive wearable that sits at the perfect intersection of performance and affordability. Being an Android smartwatch, it unlocks the door to a world of possibilities that aren’t exactly present in regular smart wearables and fitness trackers. Having Wear OS on your wrist is incredible if you don’t want to use your phone to answer texts or WhatsApp messages. The combination of Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 and BES2700BP chipsets produces an exhilarating performance and gets more juice out of the battery pack. Wear OS 4 and ColorOS Watch 6 ensure that the UI of the device remains accessible and user-friendly. Compared to other Android smartwatches, Watch 2R’s price tag of Rs 18,000 justifies the value you get out of it.

According to Mark Gurman Apple plans to reintroduce its fourth-model concept next year with a thinner design, aiming to create an “Air” version of the iPhone, positioned between the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro. This could be compared to the original MacBook Air, which was between the regular MacBook and MacBook Pro. It is anticipated that demand for the iPhone 17 Slim/Air will surpass that of the Mini and Plus models.
