Your Android smartphone offers different microphone access levels to the apps installed on the device. When you launch an app for the first time, you are asked whether you want to give it access to the microphone or deny it. You can allow the app to use the microphone when it is running in the foreground. As soon as your phone’s mic becomes active, you will notice a green mic icon in the top left corner of the screen.While the apps on your phone are not always using the mic, Google Assistant is. This is because the voice assistant is always listening for the ‘Hey Google’ or ‘OK Google’ phrases. Once you say either of those phrases, the voice assistant springs into action. Even though Google Assistant utilises the microphone all the time, it does not prompt the mic indicator on the status bar.The good thing about Android smartphones is that you can revoke central access to the microphone all the time. Once the mic access is revoked every app, including Google Assistant, cannot access it. You can choose to revoke mic access for an individual app as well.

One of the key software elements that distinguishes Samsung smartphones from their peers is the app drawer. While OEMs like Oppo, OnePlus, Vivo, and others have a scrolling grid for their app drawer, Samsung has traditionally opted for a page layout. This has changed on the One UI 7 OS, as the app drawer now features a vertical scrolling grid. If that’s not your cup of tea, you can always revert the app drawer to its previous layout.Apart from the app drawer, Samsung has also made key design changes to the Quick Settings Menu. The new dropdown menu is heavily inspired by Apple’s Control Centre. A down-swipe from anywhere on the home page reveals the notification shade. Let’s talk about OnePlus 13’s camera specs. The China-spec version of the smartphone has a 50MP triple rear-camera setup tuned by Hasselblad. This year’s OnePlus 12 rocked a 50MP primary shooter, a 64MP periscope telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, and a 48MP ultrawide lens. The primary shooter is set to remain the same on the smartphone’s successor. Up front, OnePlus will stick with the 32MP selfie shooter.
Expect significant upgrades on the battery front as well, although those who have been holding their breath for Qi2 wireless charging will have to wait a little longer. The OnePlus 13 will pack a 6,000mAh battery with support for 100W wired, 80W (QC) wireless charging in the USA, and 50W wireless charging globally.
This year’s OnePlus 12 was launched in India at a starting price of Rs 64,999 for the 12GB RAM + 256GB Storage variant, going up to Rs 69,999 for the 16GB RAM + 512GB Storage model. The OnePlus 13 was launched at CNY 4,499 for the 12GB + 256GB base model, which is approximately Rs 53,000. We don’t expect the new OnePlus model to demand a premium over its predecessor.
