We recently got a chance to catch up with Mr Avneet Marwah, CEO, Super Plastonic PVT. LTD, who gave us some great insights into the SPPL business here in India, specifically the Thomson TV brand. - How is the Thomson TV business doing in India? Any numbers you would like to project?
Thomson India has been performing very well. We are one of the bestselling TV brands in the online space and are counted amongst the top 2 online selling electronic brands. This has been possible because of our customers who have responded very well to each of our launches.
- Advertisement -With respect to numbers, Thomson currently has a 5% market share, and we are aiming to sell at least half a million units this festive season.
- There are many TV brands under SPPL, how does Thomson get the right exposure and the right amount of time from you and how are you excelling with this brand in India?
Thomson is the only brand in India that offers a whole range of home products and hence the launch of Thomson Home. Under that, we have our washing machines, air conditioners, coolers and of course our TVs.
Our strategic partnership with Flipkart has also enabled Thomson to shine through its competitors. Being on Flipkart gives us the right attention and maximum eyeballs. Year on year, in fact, we have been achieving our targets by great margins. In the near future, we will be adding more appliances under Thomson Home too.
- What new and emerging features are being incorporated into Thomson TVs in India?
Thomson has been working nonstop for 6-8 months on some soon-to-launch TVs in the Indian market. These launches will offer state of the art technologically with many upgrades in the hardware too. We are very excited to see our customers’ response to these new releases. Some of these will be introduced during the festive season itself. - Advertisement -Apart from this, there are many other projects in the pipeline, which is at par with global standards. The products will be very promising and will be offered at unbeatable prices thus giving direct competition to some luxury segment TV brands that offer something similar at very high prices.
- With the festive season around the corner, can the consumer expect discounts and deals on Thomson TVs as well? Can you give a small glimpse to our reader?Thomson will surely be offering the best deals this year, during the festive season. With the last quarter being very flat in terms of demand, we have high hopes for the season. Customers will finally get to shop their favourite products at much-discounted rates and this may help boost the overall market sentiments too. Thomson is going to be extremely competitively priced, especially against the smartphone brands that have launched SMART TVs recently.
- What does the road map of Thomson TV look like in India? And anything else you would like to add?
After a series of launches during the festive season, we are set for more. It is safe to say that the roadmap looks more than exciting for us. We have been working relentlessly on our OS and our hardware to bring all the best-in-class SMART TVs at really great prices. With our new products, we are surely on our way to democratising quality and technologically-enhanced TVs for all.
Also, Google has been a very supportive strategic technology partner for us. Soon SPPL will be going global, and we are already on a very advanced stage of that.
