After the acquisition of Instagram, Facebook started integrating the two platforms in phases. Users can now access their Instagram DMs on Facebook along with a bunch of other features. This also includes having the option to view Instagram Reels on your Facebook feed. While this is a handy feature for some, many Facebook users find it annoying. In this article, we bring you 5 easy ways you can remove or disable Reels in the Facebook app.
Disable Reels on the Facebook smartphone App
While there is no option to permanently remove Reels from your Facebook app, you can still hide them as they appear on your feed. Once you hide them you can select the option to ‘See fewer posts like this’ to reduce the frequency of Reels appearing on your feed.
To hide Reels on the Facebook app, click on the three dots at the top right corner of the post and select ‘Hide’.
Use Facebook on a web browser
Facebook hasn’t launched Reels for its website yet. As of now, Reels are exclusive to the Facebook app. If you want to browse Facebook without coming across Reels, log in to Facebook on the web browser on your mobile or PC.
Disable AutoPlay on the Facebook App
To stop Reels from autoplaying on the Facebook app, follow these steps:
Step 1: Open the Facebook app.
Step 2: Tap the hamburger icon (three bars) on the top right corner to reveal the menu.
Step 3: Select Settings.
Step 4: Scroll down and select ‘Media’.
Step 5: Enable ‘Never Autoplay Videos’.
Switch to an older version of the Facebook app
If you want to totally disable Reels from appearing on your Facebook feed, switch to an older version of the app. Since Reels is fairly new to Facebook, older versions of the app will not have this feature. You can download previous versions of Facebook from third-party marketplaces like APKMirror and F-droid. After downloading an older version, disable the auto-update option from the Play Store.
Use the Facebook Lite app
Facebook Lite is a stripped-down version of the Facebook app that is relatively faster and uses a lesser amount of data. Facebook Lite does not have the extensive features found in the regular app. This includes Reels. You will still be able to use the classic Facebook features such as sharing to a Timeline, liking posts, and searching for people.
Bonus Tip: Use third-party Facebook apps
There are a bunch of third-party Facebook clients you can use to avoid seeing Reels on your feed. These third-party apps are able to access your Facebook data and login credentials, so user caution is advised.
Using these easy methods you will be able to remove Reels from your Facebook app. If you want to remove your own Reels for Facebook, select ‘Reels’ in Privacy Options in Settings and disable the toggle for ‘Recommend on Facebook’.
