Oppo, a Chinese smartphone manufacturer, has unveiled its first and only foldable phone today. The Oppo Find N will face off against Samsung’s foldable smartphone. During Oppo Inno Days, the new device was unleashed.
Oppo Find N design, specifications and features
The Oppo Find N uses a landscape ratio for the inner display that seamlessly switches between an immersive 7.1-inch inner display and a 5.49-inch outer display. The inner display, which has an 8.4:9 aspect ratio, unfolds directly into landscape mode, allowing users to watch videos, play games, or read books without having to rotate the device. The 18:9 aspect ratio, when folded for single-handed use.
The 12-layer Serene Display from OPPO provides excellent protection and durability, and it works in tandem with the Flexion Hinge to provide a smooth foldable experience. In addition to this, the screen has a Flexion UTG (ultra-thin glass) layer of 0.03 mm, compared to 0.6 mm for regular smartphone glass, allowing it to bend easily while maintaining strong durability. It is claimed to be folded over 200,000 times. While the inner screen is an LTPO display that adjusts the refresh rate from 1-120 Hz depending on what you’re watching. A touch sampling rate of up to 1,000 Hz is also supported on the inner display. With a peak brightness of up to 1,000 nits, both screens provide 10,240 automatic brightness levels.
According to the company, the Oppo foldable phone uses a unique water-drop hinge design solves some of the most common problems with foldable devices by widening the angle of the display fold and providing a buffer when the display folds, resulting in a minimal crease that is up to 80% less noticeable than other devices. When folded the design is said to virtually eliminate the gap between displays, giving it a more integrated appearance and better protecting the inner display from scratches.
The advanced Flexion Hinge’s cam and spring structure allow it to stand freely at any angle between 50 and 120 degrees when unfolded. The OPPO Find N can be turned into a mini laptop using the Notes app, allowing you to take notes without having to hold the device.
Because the foldable phone can stand at various angles, it also acts as a tripod, making 4K HD time-lapse photography, video calls, and online meetings simple and hands-free.
The content is seamlessly relayed from the outer screen to the main inner display when the phone is unfolded. When the device is folded, the user can swipe up on the cover screen to use the same feature on the outer screen. Furthermore, a variety of keyboard customizations for the large inner display, including a split keyboard that makes it easier to type with two thumbs, aid productivity.
The OPPO Find N is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC paired with up to 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 512 GB of UFS 3.1 storage.
In terms of optics, Oppo Find N features a triple-camera setup that includes 50 MP Sony IMX 766 main sensor, a 16 MP ultra-wide lens and a 13 MP telephoto lens, as well as selfie cameras on both the inner and outer displays. FlexForm Mode allows for hands-free 4K HD time-lapse imaging at any angle between 50 and 120 degrees, and three time-lapse templates – light trails, night sky, and sun and clouds – optimise photo and video settings in one click for more exciting and creative astrophotography. When the device is bent at less than 60 degrees, the image preview is automatically moved to the bottom display, making it easier to set up your shot. Selfies can also be taken using hand gestures, so you can easily stay in the frame without having to press the shutter button.
Lastly, the Oppo Foldable phone is fuelled by a 4,500mAh battery which supports 33W SUPERVOOC Flash Charge. This is claimed to charge the device to 55% in 30 minutes and to 100% in 70 minutes. It also comes with 15W AIRVOOC wireless charging (compatible with standard Qi) and 10W reverse wireless charging. For authentication, there is a side-mounted fingerprint scanner that is housed in the power button, as well as a dual speaker system and Dolby Atmos support to deliver more lifelike sound.
