A few months back, Xiaomi released its 12th iteration of Android-based custom operating system MIUI 12. The company has announced that it is going to roll out the latest update to some of its devices in India during August 2020. In the first update, there will be around seven devices to receive the MIUI 12. Though the company has not revealed a specific time and date, it will be declared soon.
Commenting on the roll-out, Mr Muralikrishnan B – Chief Operating Officer, Xiaomi India, said, “At Xiaomi, we are constantly considering customer feedback and working towards pushing our software capabilities to offer a seamless user experience. From integrating Visual IVR with MIUI 7, dual support apps on MIUI 8, improved gesture shortcuts and AI face unlock with MIUI 9, MIUI has gone through numerous crucial updates. India specific features such as Panchang, Copy OTP, Smart IRCTC SMS, MIUI SMS Caller ID, etc have been greatly appreciated by our Mi Fans. Features like these make MIUI stand out from the other flavours of Android. With MIUI 12, our pursuit to improve and enhance user experience continues. Equipped with an optimised interface, refreshed UI design and class-leading features such as Magic Clone, Super Wallpaper, etc. We are confident that this software version will elevate the overall user experience.”
With MIUI 12, Xiaomi aims to build on the experience that MIUI 11 brought, with optimisations across the UI, to enable a better user experience. The rollout is said to begin in August to Mi 10, Redmi Note 9/ Redmi Note 9 Pro, Redmi Note 8/ Redmi Note 8 Pro and Redmi Note 7/ Redmi Note 7 Pro.
The MIUI 12 update will bring improved privacy features to its devices, too. The consumers will get stronger control over permissions which takes privacy protection to the next level. The users will be able to get rid of their sensitive information like the location and the metadata before sharing a picture with anyone. Moreover, they can delete a screenshot automatically after sharing, which in turn helps one save space and maintain privacy. In addition to this, they will also have the option of using the app” and “Notify” for permission. Therefore, allowing them to be able to request sensitive permissions such as location, permissions to access the camera, microphone, contacts, call history, calendar and storage with “While using the app” mode.
The dark mode covers the system apps as well as the third-party apps that adjust to the ambient lighting automatically to comfort your eyes. To enable it, users can toggle individual apps in the settings menu.
In addition to this, the icon now comes with smooth animations as well as details. Using the Mi Render Engine, the users will now get a smoother UI experience. The devices will get a refreshed design that is inspired by nature from the opening and closing of apps for seamless switching between apps. Users will be able to switch between the home screen, lock screen and always-on display. Additionally, the calendar features come with beautifully designed cards for an important event. Also, the new weather app in MIUI 12 recreates the current climate in the UI with the new weather app in MIUI 12 recreates the current climate in the UI. It will also be featuring a private casting mode wherein your private notification pop-ups won’t be casted. Users can also minimize the casting window and access other apps on their smartphones.
The Magic Clone feature will be MI 10 exclusive, allowing the users to create virtual doppelgangers images or videos and more engaging content. This feature can be found in the camera app in the ‘More’ option. The function can capture the same person up to four times at different intervals of time. From a camera perspective, Mi 10 along with other Xiaomi devices will feature vlog mode and AI watermark.
