How is the new article reader different from Reading Mode?

The Reading Mode app for Android brings a clean, homogenous reading experience to the mobile platform. It can be triggered on any app using a handy shortcut. Reading Mode clears the ads from the screen and gives the user the option to change the background colour, text size, and text font. There is an option to listen to the article as well.

The new page reader function on Chrome does not require installing an additional app. It does not open the article on a new page devoid of ads. Instead, it simply reads the article aloud and allows the user to go hands-free. The audio player has an option to change the reading voice. This option is not present in the Reading Mode app.

Air India Limited, a Tata Group enterprise, officially introduced ‘AEYE VISION’ today on its smartphone app, allowing AI-powered real-time trip updates. This is the first airline in India to use computer vision to improve the user experience on mobile apps. Logitech’s reputation in the world of gaming accessories and peripherals is unmatched. Its MX series of keyboards and mice appeal to casual users and gamers alike. However, for serious gaming enthusiasts, the brand has a dedicated G series line of products that boast cutting-edge specs and supreme hardware. The newly launched Logitech G309 Lightspeed wireless mouse embodies those attributes. It is currently priced at Rs 7,995. The gaming mouse flaunts a Hero 25K sensor, Lightforce switches, and multiple programmable buttons. We used the Logitech G309 Lightspeed for a week, here is our review of the wireless gaming mouse.

Logitech G309 Lightspeed Review: Design

The Logitech G309 Lightspeed has a standard egg-shaped design. It stands at dimensions of 120mm x 64mm x 39mm. These dimensions are favourable for a wide range of hand sizes. Using the mouse with palm and claw grips presented no issues. The build of the device is all plastic to keep its weight as low as possible. The quality of the plastic is top-notch. It does not flex upon being pressed and the matte finish gives it a premium feel.

Logitech G309 Lightspeed Review: Design

The palm rest of the mouse comes off to reveal the AA battery slot. Without the AA battery, the G309 weighs just 68 grams. The battery provided in the box takes the mouse’s weight up to 86 grams and makes it bottom-heavy. Since the G309 is compatible with Logitech’s PowerPlay wireless charging mouse pads, you have the option to ditch the AA battery entirely. However, the PowerPlay mousepad fetches $100, which is more than the price of the G309 itself.

A shallow recess separates the removable palm rest from the main buttons. This recess has a patterned texture. It also contains a small LED light which changes colours when you press the profile switch button. The scroll wheel between the two main buttons has a rubber finish while the ‘G-Shift’ profile switch button has a glossy finish. The two side buttons on the mouse also have a glossy finish. Since these two buttons are on the left side of the mouse, it makes the G309 more suited for right-handed use. We did not face any issues with left-handed use, but the side buttons are best accessed with the thumb. All buttons on this mouse are customisable, including the two main buttons.

Logitech G309 Lightspeed Review: Design

The bottom panel of the G309 is made out of translucent plastic. The silhouette of the internals is visible when you hold the mouse against a light source. This panel extends to the top end of the mouse, although it is covered by the two main buttons. The white PTFE feet at the base of the mouse give it a good glide. A removable magnetic cover lies at the bottom of this panel. It can be swapped out for a PowerPlay-compatible cover. The connectivity and power switches are positioned on either side of the optical sensor.

Logitech G309 Lightspeed Review: Performance

Connecting the Logitech G309 Lightspeed to a PC or mobile device is a very seamless process. The connectivity button at the bottom of the mouse toggles between Bluetooth and WiFi modes. The mouse connects with the 2.4GHz receiver as soon as it is plugged into a USB port. The mouse is strictly plug-and-play, you don’t need to install its drivers to use it on your device.

Logitech G309 Lightspeed Review: Performance

At the heart of the Logitech G309 lies the Hero 25K sensor. This optical sensor has a sensitivity of 25,600 DPI. While this isn’t as ridiculous as the 32,000 DPI resolution of Superlight 2’s Hero 2 sensor, it is still more than enough for high-end gaming. The G309 has a maximum tracking speed of 400 IPS and can reach a maximum acceleration of 40G. It has an adaptive polling rate, reaching a maximum of 1,000 Hz when the mouse is connected to the USB receiver. In Bluetooth mode, the polling rate is limited to 125Hz.

Logitech G309 Lightforce employs the hybrid Lightforce switches. These switches are incredibly snappy and offer very nice tactile feedback. The response isn’t muted at all. We did not face any double-clicking issues on this mouse. The switches feel very durable and can withstand heavy use. The latency is ideal for competitive gaming. To get the best out of the G309, you ought to use it with the USB receiver.

During the week-long review period, we used the Logitech G309 Lightspeed to play games like Apex Legends, Call of Duty: Warzone, and Counter-Strike 2. We were pleased with its sensor sensitivity, fast movements, low latency, and snappy feedback. Our only small gripe with the mouse is that it is bottom-heavy. However, you get used to it fairly quickly. You can eliminate this issue altogether by using the PowerPlay mousepad, but it’ll cost you a pretty penny.

One of our favourite things about using Logitech’s peripherals is using the G Hub customisation software. Using G Hub, you can customise several aspects of the G309. You can remap all six buttons of the mouse and create different profiles for different games. The software allows you to fine-tune the preset DPI levels. You can switch among different levels using the G-shit button on the mouse. G Hub also allows you to switch between optical and hybrid switches.

Logitech G309 Lightspeed Review: Performance

Logitech claims a battery life of 300+ hours with a Lightspeed receiver and 600+ hours with Bluetooth. We didn’t use the mouse long enough to test these numbers, but the battery life should not be an issue since the AA battery can be easily swapped for a new one. There is no USB Type-C charging port on the mouse. You can get rid of the AA battery altogether by using the PowerPlay mousepad. This gets you ‘unlimited battery life’ as the mouse is constantly powered by the mousepad.

Verdict

The Logitech G309 Lightspeed is one of the finest wireless mice you can buy right now under Rs 8,000. We like that it doesn’t go overboard with gaudy RGB lighting. Instead, it has a tasteful design and incredible specs. The Hero 25K sensor is ideal for heavy-duty gaming and it can track incredibly well on most surfaces. The tactile feedback and latency rate of the device are on point. PowerPlay compatibility is another big plus if you want to shed the additional weight of the AA battery. Logitech’s G Hub software does its thing on the G309 as well, offering a plethora of customisations.

Once your smartphone connects to a satellite, you are made to fill out a list of basic questions. This list is relayed to the emergency services along with your phone’s locations, battery level, IMEI, and language. Details like your name, phone number, and emergency contact information are also shared with the emergency services and the satellite service provider.

One of the more underrated features on Pixel smartphones is ‘Now Playing’. This tool allows the smartphone to automatically identify the songs playing in the background. Here’s how you can enable the song identification feature on your Google Pixel smartphone.

How does Google Pixel identify songs playing in the background?

The best part about using Google Pixel’s ‘Now Playing’ feature is that it does not rely on Internet access to work. You do not need to worry about your phone relaying the recorded data to an external server. Once you turn on this feature, your smartphone downloads a library of song IDs and stores it locally. When your phone detects a song playing in the background, it uses its song ID to find a match in its directory. Once a match has been found, the name of the song is displayed on the lock screen and the notification shade.

As you can already tell, the one limitation of using this feature is that it doesn’t work for newly released songs. To get around this limitation, Google offers the option to display a search button on the lock screen. When the phone cannot find a match in its local library, tapping this button sends the digital fingerprint of the audio to Google. The song name gets displayed on the screen within seconds. Of course, using this option requires access to the Internet.
