Instagram is launching Teen Accounts for younger users, which include parental supervision features. These accounts will be introduced internationally in January 2025, assuring the protection of Teens under the age of 16. Parents may monitor their teen’s messages, set daily time restrictions, and disable the app.
Instagram Teen Accounts has been formally launched to automatically place adolescents under built-in safeguards and reassure parents that their children are having secure online experiences. Teen Accounts will control who may contact teenagers and what information they see, ensuring that their time is spent wisely.
Teens under the age of 16 will require parental approval to reduce any of the built-in protections inside Teen Accounts.
The company via blog post said, “Today, we’re introducing Instagram Teen Accounts, a new experience for teens, guided by parents. Teen Accounts have built-in protections which limit who can contact them and the content they see, and also provide new ways for teens to explore their interests. We’ll automatically place teens into Teen Accounts, and teens under 16 will need a parent’s permission to change any of these settings to be less strict.”
Teens may now choose which subjects they want to see more of in Explore and receive suggestions, allowing them to focus on their preferred content. The new Teen Account safeguards address parental concerns about online behaviour, material, and time spent.
Teen Accounts now has a supervision feature to assist parents stay more involved in their teen’s experiences. Parents can now see who their adolescent has messaged in the last seven days, establish daily time restrictions for Instagram usage, prevent teens from accessing the app at night or during specified time periods, and browse age-appropriate content from their teen’s preferred themes. This enables them to monitor their teen’s online activity and ensure that they are not exposing them to unsuitable stuff. The updates aim to provide parents more control over their teen’s internet habits. Parents can change these settings for teenagers under 16, allowing them to be more careful.
Instagram has implemented additional privacy restrictions for minors, forcing them to accept new followers while restricting contact with those who do not follow them. This applies to all kids under the age of 16 who sign up for the application.
Teens will also be placed in regulated messaging settings, with interactions limited to people they follow or are already linked to.
Instagram’s sensitive content control settings for adolescents are intended to limit the types of content they view in Explore and Reels, such as those encouraging cosmetic procedures or fighting. Teens may only be tagged or mentioned by their followers, and its anti-bullying tool, Hidden Words, is automatically enabled to exclude unpleasant words and phrases from their comments and DM requests.
Teens will be reminded to exit the app after 60 minutes each day, and sleep mode will be enabled between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m., muting alerts overnight and sending auto-replies to direct messages.
Teens under 16 will require parental consent to utilise less protective settings. To obtain authorisation, minors must set up parental supervision on Instagram. If parents desire additional control over their older teen’s (16+) experiences, they may simply enable parental supervision. Then they may authorise any modifications to these settings, regardless of their teen’s age.
Instagram is now forcing minors to verify their age in more places, including when they try to create a new account with an adult birthdate. The business is also developing technologies to proactively identify accounts belonging to minors, even if they state an adult birthdate, and place them under the same restrictions as Teen Account settings. Testing will start in the United States early next year.

Your iPhone can now intelligently recognise the primary colours of the wallpaper and add that shade to the app icons. This gives you more aesthetic control over how your home screen looks. As far as personalisation goes, this is a big plus!
Lock and hide apps
Android OEMs like Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus, and more have had the option to lock and hide apps for several years. Apple has finally added these helpful privacy tools on iOS 18. If you want to keep your personal apps away from prying eyes, you can hide them from the app drawer/home screen and add Face ID as a requirement to access them. To lock an app on your iPhone, long-press its icon on the home screen and select ‘Require Face ID’. To hide and lock it, select ‘Hide and Require Face ID’.
Collections in Photos app
The refreshed Photos app in iOS 18 has a new look. Images with similar themes like Trips and People & Pets are grouped together for easy browsing. These collections take the bottom third of the screen, with the library grid occupying the rest of the real estate. You can customise and reorder the collection or choose to hide them entirely. The new Photos app also lets you hide your screenshots from the grid. The new layout and design of the app can be overwhelming at first, but you get used to it after a while. Apple will be integrating this app with AI features in the coming months, so there’s a lot to look forward to!
RCS messaging
RCS messaging may not matter to folks who primarily use iMessage, but it has helped bridge the divide between Android and iOS messaging. Now that the iPhone does not rely on MMS to send and receive media from Android devices, the quality of the images and videos will rise significantly. Having RCS support also means that the text sent to Android users will now be end-to-end encrypted. Other features include delivery and read receipts, greater character limit, typing indicators, suggested replies, and more.
Send Later
If you struggle with remembering, birthdays, anniversaries, and other important dates, you can now plan your greetings in advance and schedule them for later. The Send Later feature in the Messages app can be accessed by tapping the plus icon next to the text box. Hit the send icon after setting the date and time to schedule the text. You can always edit the text until its delivery time. The scheduled messages are encrypted and stored in Apple’s servers until they are delivered. The only catch is that this feature works only for iMessage.
Passwords app
The new Passwords app on iOS 18 is a successor to the iCloud Keychain. Instead of digging through your device’s settings to find the Keychain, the Passwords app can be accessed from the home screen itself. Most of the iCloud Keychain features are already a part of the Passwords app. On top of that, you can use this app to generate two-factor authentication codes and share existing passwords with friends and family. It goes without saying that the Passwords app can be synced across all your devices.
Tap to Cash
Have you ever wanted to send Apple Cash to someone without sharing your email or phone number? Well, it is now possible with Tap to Cash on Apple Wallet. Once you have enabled this feature on your iPhone, you can share money with another iPhone user by touching your devices. For this feature to work, the other iPhone must be updated to iOS 18 as well. You can also access Tap to Cash by adding a widget to the lock screen or a control to the Control Centre. If your iPhone has the Action button, you can customise it to trigger this feature.

When you schedule a message on your iPhone, it appears in the chat thread within a plain white box. The boundary of the box is dotted, further signalling that the message has not been sent yet. The date and time of delivery appear on top of the box.
Scheduled messages are stored on Apple’s servers until they are sent. When the message is sent, it is cleared from Apple’s servers. The dotted line around the box disappears and the chat bubble gets filled with the appropriate colour.

The new Lava Blaze X has got a lot of things going for it. Much like its elder sibling, Blaze Curve, the Blaze X sports a curved AMOLED display – a first for the segment. The MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset at the heart of this smartphone is a respectable choice given its Rs 15,000 price tag. Lava’s tremendous pan-India home service coverage is another reason why you may want to get this device. We got our hands on the smartphone earlier this month and have been driving it daily for a week. Here is our review of the Lava Blaze X.

Lava Blaze X sets the benchmark for design, form factor, and build quality in its price category. The plastic back panel has a matte finish, which lends it a premium in-hand feel. Even though it is a plastic panel, there is no flex to it. The edges of the panel curve towards the frame. The massive camera cutout at the back reminds us of the Vivo X100 Pro. Overall, the design is clean and tasteful.
The plastic frame houses the side button and volume rocker on its right edge. The SIM tray, primary microphone, USB Type-C port, and speaker grille are positioned at the bottom. Up top lies a solitary secondary microphone. There is no secondary speaker on this device.
The 6.67-inch curved AMOLED display is the biggest highlight of this smartphone. The Blaze X is the cheapest smartphone in the market to have a curved display. This AMOLED panel can reach a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz. The touch response is sublime and the in-display optical fingerprint sensor is quite snappy. However, its maximum brightness falls a little short in outdoor conditions during the day. Being a curved display, accidental touches are very common while browsing on the smartphone.
The AMOLED panel on the Blaze X produces a splendid viewing experience. The deep blacks and vivid, punchy colours look amazing on the screen. We streamed HD content across platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, and Disney+ Hotsar. The overall experience was very enjoyable. Despite having a single, bottom-firing speaker, the Blaze X produces a loud audio output.
Lava Blaze X Review: Performance and Cameras
Lava Blaze X is available in three RAM variants – 4GB (Rs 15,000), 6GB (Rs 16,000), and 8GB (Rs 17,000). All three variants have 128GB of internal storage space. The phone does not support expanded memory, which is a bit of an issue with the limited internal storage. The OS and native apps occupy 22GB of internal memory, which leaves you with ~122GB of storage space to work with.
Powering the Blaze X is the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset. This isn’t the most powerful SoC we’ve seen in this price bracket, but it does what is expected of it. Upon running Geekbench 6, the smartphone scored 798 points in the single-core test and 2,119 points in the multi-core test. In comparison, the CMF Phone 1 scored 1,023 and 2,894 points when we reviewed the smartphone.
Benchmark numbers aside, the Lava Blaze X puts forward a strong performance while dealing with routine tasks. The touch gestures register quickly and the apps do not take a long time to load. We ran a dozen apps on the smartphone at the same time and didn’t hit any snags.
The gaming performance on display was satisfactory but not out of the ordinary. The frame rate maxes out at 60fps and games like Call of Duty Mobile can be played at medium settings. Lags and frame drops are a very rare occurrence, which is good to see on a sub-Rs 15,000 smartphone. The device does a good job of managing the internal temperature as well. The back panel starts warming up after 40 minutes of steady gameplay. However, if gaming graphics are a big priority for you, there are better smartphones out there.
The software experience delivered by the Lava Blaze X is one of our favourite things about the smartphone. The software is stock Android 14 for the most part, but Lava has added its own special features to improve the overall usage experience. Privacy tools like app locker and app cloner are a welcome inclusion on the device. Features like anti-theft alarm and anti-peeping mode need some more tuning before they find their way into daily usage.
There is no bloatware to be seen on the device, which is incredible for a budget smartphone. Lava’s native ‘Outdoor Toolbox’ package has useful tools like a height meter, compass, magnifier, pedometer, and more. There is a good range of customisation options for the home screen, lock screen, fingerprint sensor, charging animation, and more.
During the review period, we used the Lava Blaze X for tasks like video calling, instant messaging, social media messaging, media streaming, navigation, and gaming. The 5,000mAh reliably got us through the day with 15-20% charge left to spare. The smartphone supports 33W charge and takes almost 2 hours to reach a full charge. This is on par with other smartphones in this price category.
The rear camera panel of the Blaze X comprises a 64MP primary shooter and a 2MP macro sensor. The selfie camera makes use of a 16MP sensor. The front and rear cameras can record 1,080p footage at 30 fps.
The primary shooter takes good pictures in outdoor daylight conditions. The images pack a good amount of detail and appear balanced. However, the colours could have been a little more punchy. While we liked the cool, balanced tone of the pictures, the colours were missing the ‘pop’. The camera performance drops a few levels in limited lighting conditions, which is something to be expected of all smartphones in this price category. The smartphone does a decent job of brightening the subject but the images are soft and have a fair bit of grain in them.
Portrait Shots
The primary shooter takes well-focused portrait shots but they suffer from the same issue as the regular pictures. The colours appear a little faded out instead of the punchiness we expect from portraits. The camera does a good job of detecting the edges but the blur effect in the background could have been more intense.
Without Night Mode vs With Night Mode
The 16 MP front-facing camera takes good selfies in indoor and outdoor conditions. The smartphone keeps the skin smoothening effects to a minimum and processes the skin tone in a natural manner. The selfies are certainly ‘social media ready’ but do not appear overprocessed at all.
The Lava Blaze X is certainly a looker but it backs it up with a solid performance and satisfying software experience. As far as design and form factor are concerned, this smartphone is easily one of the best in its category. The in-hand feel and weight distribution of the device are bothering on premium category. The bloatware-free software experience is one of our favourite things about the smartphone. The curved AMOLED display is ideal for media streaming. The camera performance leaves a little more to be desired in terms of colour richness, but all things considered, the Lava Blaze X is one of the better smartphones under Rs 15,000.

Consumers may pre-order the latest flagship Galaxy tablets starting today on Samsung.com, Samsung India Smart Cafés, online platforms such as Amazon.in and Flipkart.com, and Samsung’s authorised retail outlets throughout India to gain early access.
Customers may reserve the new tablets by paying a token fee of INR 1000. Consumers who book the next Samsung Galaxy tablets will receive perks worth Rs 3499.
The company’s announcement says, “Samsung’s flagship tablets offer ground-breaking innovations, including intelligent performance optimization, enhanced creative tools, and adaptive features that take productivity and creativity to new heights.”
It further added, “The next flagship Galaxy tablets will further build on Samsung’s stellar legacy of ground-breaking innovations by offering new features, making them the perfect productivity companions for multi-taskers.”
Although Samsung has not revealed the exact launch date, as per the pre-reserve page a countdown running reveals the tablets will be launched on the seventh day from today which is September 25.
According to leaks and rumours, the Galaxy Tab S10 series will include two models: Galaxy Tab S10 and Galaxy Tab S10+. The S10+ is expected to have a 12.4-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X ‘Anti-Reflection’ display, while the Ultra model may have a larger 14.6-inch screen. The S10+ could have up to 12GB RAM and 512GB storage, while the Ultra model could have up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage. Peak season marketing and Apple Intelligence can help the company increase sales; both strategies will be crucial in tracking shifts in the demand for iPhones, he suggested.
“Strategies such as adding a tetraprism camera to the 16 Pro and maintaining iPhone 16 series pricing have had a limited help to iPhone 16 first-weekend pre-order sales. Suppose Apple Intelligence releases in 4Q24 and peak season promotions have a limited effect on iPhone 16 shipments. In that case, I believe that Apple will implement more aggressive iPhone product strategies in 2025 to stimulate market demand,” he said.
