Last month, Xiaomi launched its new outdoor Bluetooth speaker alongside the Redmi Note 14 Series and Redmi Buds 6 TWS. The Xiaomi Sound Outdoor speaker is priced aggressively at Rs 3,999. It rocks a 20W woofer and a 10W driver to deliver a 30W audio output. To further enrich the sonic output, the Sound Outdoor has a passive woofer radiator on either side. Adding to the outdoor appeal of the speaker is its IP67 rating for dust and water resistance. Interested to see how the speaker performed in different settings, we used it as our primary audio companion for a week. Here is our comprehensive review of the Xiaomi Sound Outdoor speaker.

Xiaomi’s outdoor Bluetooth speaker is available in 3 colour options – Black, Red, and Blue. The Black variant has a contrasting orange lanyard while the other two variants stick with the body colour for the looping rubber strip. This lanyard also houses the power, Bluetooth, and multi-speaker pairing buttons. The media control buttons are positioned on top of the speaker. At the bottom lie the two rubber feet to keep the speaker firmly in place.

Our favourite thing about Xiaomi Sound Outdoor’s design is its tubular form factor with defined edges. These edges ensure that the speaker doesn’t roll off the surface. The device is covered with a mesh fabric which wards off the dust quite easily. The rubber media control buttons are shaped like the +, -, and play signs. This makes them easier to find without looking at the device. There are no LED lights or indicators on the speaker. We would have preferred a compact light bar to indicate the battery level, but its absence isn’t a deal breaker.

Xiaomi Sound Outdoor’s IP67 rating makes it a great device for outdoor pool parties and beach visits. The speaker remains unaffected by water splashes and gentle drizzles. Having said that, we wouldn’t recommend subjecting it to harsh conditions on a regular basis as water protection on electronic devices in general can hit a point of diminishing return fairly quickly.

Producing the audio output on the Xiaomi Sound Outdoor are 20W + 10W dual drivers. These front-facing drivers are accompanied by a passive woofer radiator on either side. The speaker supports Bluetooth 5.4 which makes the pairing process quick and easy. Since there is no 3.5 jack on the device, your connectivity options are limited to Bluetooth.

Now, let’s talk about the most important aspect of the Sound Outdoor speaker – it’s soundstage. For a Bluetooth speaker priced at Rs 3,999, the Xiaomi Sound Outdoor produces a phenomenal audio output. Looking at the spec sheet, you may be wondering whether the 20W woofer driver and the passive subwoofers are overkill. After using the speaker for a week, we can happily report that the strong low-end does not meddle with the lucid mid and high-range frequencies. While the soundstage is far from neutral, it is quite lush and packed with details. The added ‘punch’ from the side woofers makes the listening experience all the more enjoyable.

We played Khruangin’s A La Sala on the Sound Outdoor and were pleased with the way it relayed the mix. The clean guitar tone and sharp clapper hits were delivered expertly with a warm blanket of surrounding bass. Playing Adrianne Lenker’s Bright Future, we were impressed with how the speaker managed the relatively quieter mix and gave more prominence to the vocals and acoustic guitar.

In outdoor conditions, you can push the volume level to 100% without worrying about any distortion creeping into the soundstage. However, since the audio drivers on this speaker are front-facing only, people sitting behind it are unable to get the full sonic experience. This is where the Sound Outdoor’s linking chops come into play. With just one press of a button, this device can connect with other speakers and relay the audio output without any latency. The Sound Outdoor is capable of connecting with 99 additional speakers.

If your phone is out of reach, you can use Xiaomi Sound Outdoor to take calls by just pressing the play button. The sole microphone on the speaker does a good job of relaying the speaker’s voice in indoor conditions. However, in noisy outdoor conditions, the call quality takes a hit.

Xiaomi claims that the 2,600mAh battery pack on this speaker can power it up to 12 hours on a single charge. This claim is true if you don’t push the speaker beyond the 50% volume level. During the review period, we used the Xiaomi Sound Outdoor speaker between 70-80% volume level and got 8-10 hours of playtime out of it. It takes up to 2.5 hours to fully charge the speaker.

Verdict

Xiaomi Outdoor Sound checks all the essential boxes while also being easy on the wallet. The vibrant and detailed soundstage punches above its weight and outperforms almost every speaker in this category. The two woofer radiators along the sides add the thump to the mix and make the listening experience all the more enjoyable. On top of that, Xiaomi Sound Outdoor’s IP67 rating and 12-hour battery life further embolden its case for being one of the best speakers for outdoor use.

What actually happened?

After getting back from the gym, he received an international call from an odd number that had +1 prefixed, and he answered it. Ankush stated that the call was regarding a cancelled courier delivery; however, the influencer did not send any courier, and the caller framed him into a false story. He was informed that his courier package had been confiscated by customs because it contained an unlawful substance.

Notably, his horror started when he was told to press a zero for support during the fictitious phone call, which put him under Digital Arrest, also known as Cyber Arrest.
The biggest mistake he made was pressing zero because he didn’t send any courier overseas. The call was then instantly switched to a WhatsApp video call where police officers told him he was under self-custody and that he was involved in several serious cases, including money laundering, drug trafficking, and other serious crimes.

Keep in mind that scams frequently start with a simple phone call posing as a bank, courier agency, telecom department, or mobile service provider. The call, which can be recorded or direct, is linked to a person posing as a support person and starts the trauma.

Bahuguna was told to follow his instructions if he didn’t want to get into trouble by the individual posing as a police officer. Ankush was compelled to give them all of his information, including his Aadhar number and personal information, after he followed the instructions and turned off all of his phones and other gadgets present at his home.

In order to fool victims into thinking their accounts have been used for illicit purposes, fraudsters frequently gather personal information such as bank account details, Aadhaar, and PAN. They then use video conferencing, phone calls, or WhatsApp to issue arrest warrants while posing as law enforcement officials like the Police, Customs, ED, and CBI. After that, victims are connected to fake law enforcement officers.

For over forty hours, he was completely cut off from the outside world while on a continuous video call. They threatened him and sent him to a bank for questionable transactions, which fortunately didn’t happen because the branch was closed. He was subsequently forced to leave his home because he was being contacted by his friends, managers, and family, who even showed up at his door to see how he was doing because he was not answering calls and was only texting them to say he was okay.

You may be wondering why he didn’t tell his loved ones because he was always prompted to share the screen capture whenever he got a call or message.

The OnePlus 13 Series is set to launch in India and select global markets next week. The lineup will include two phones: the OnePlus 13 and OnePlus 13R. Ahead of the official release OnePlus has revealed the official magnetic cases, which means they will support magnetic charging. Here is everything about it.

OnePlus 13 and the OnePlus 13R are scheduled to launch in India and globally on January 7. Just a few days before the official release the company has revealed the official protective case options for the upcoming handsets. These cases will come with magnetic wireless charging support and will be available in the Sandstone Magnetic case.

However, the Wood Grain Magnetic Half-pack and Aramid Fiber Magnetic cases will be made available for the flagship OnePlus 13.

The OnePlus 13 series will be available through Amazon and the official OnePlus India website. It is expected to cost between Rs 67,000 and Rs 70,000, with two variants: 12GB RAM with 256GB Storage and 16GB RAM with 512GB Storage. The OnePlus 13R, a rebranded version of the OnePlus Ace 5, will be available in India for Rs 39,000 for 12GB RAM with 256GB storage.

The OnePlus 13R, a rebranded variant of the OnePlus Ace 5, will feature a 6.78-inch Full-HD+ AMOLED display, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, 12GB RAM, 256GB storage, triple-camera system, 6,400mAh battery, and IP65 water and dust protection. It will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon Gen 3 CPU and comes with a 6,000mAh battery, a Gorilla Glass 7i screen, and an aluminium frame. The phone will be available in Nebula Noir and Astral Trail colourways.

The device was released in China in October and will come in three colours: Midnight Ocean, Black Eclipse, and Arctic Dawn.

The Oppo Reno 13 5G series is set to launch in India and select global markets this month. Last month the company only revealed the launch timeline but now the exact launch date has been announced. The upcoming smartphone series will include two devices Oppo Reno 13 and Reno 13 Pro. The RAM and storage options have also been revealed along with confirming the launch date.

The Oppo Reno 13 5G series India and global launch is set for January 9 at 5 PM IST. The company has also confirmed that the devices will be available for purchase via Flipkart and Oppo India e-store. Additionally they also revealed the RAM and storage options for upcoming phones.

The standard Reno 13 will be made available in 8GB of RAM paired with 128GB and 25GB of internal storage options. The device will be offered in Ivory White and Luminous Blue colour options.

On the other hand, Reno 13 Pro will come with 12GB of RAM along with 25GB and 512GB of onboard storage options. Graphite Grey and Mist Lavender are the two colour options suggested by the firm.

Telegram released its first 2025 upgrade, letting users transform gifts into collectibles with unique features. The update includes an in-app QR code scanner, service message reactions, emojis in folder names, and new message search filters. The app also has additional functions for users.

The blog post claims that Telegram users may now turn their gifts into collectibles, which have special qualities and can be traded or put up for auction on NFT platforms.

Upgrading a gift allows you to choose from dozens of unique looks created by Telegram artists. Collectibles also receive a random set of secondary traits, including a background colour, icon and number.

According to the company, over 20 items, including the Homemade Cake, Jelly Bunny, Spiced Wine, and Santa Hat, can already be upgraded to collectibles, resulting in over 1400 distinct appearances – with more to come.

Purchasing a gift for another user allows you to send an upgraded gift and watch them unwrap their valuable artwork in the conversation, for a tiny number of Telegram Stars that covers blockchain fees.

In addition to this, Telegram now allows users to send gifts, join groups, and start video chats using special service messages that feature reactions, allowing them to show gratitude or welcome new members with just two taps. The new Telegram update also brings the ability for users to quickly locate messages using the chat list search bar, and the ‘Chats’ tab now has filters that display results solely from private, group, or channel chats. Besides this, Telegram now verifies public figures and organisations, allowing users to identify official sources of information instantly. Official third-party services can add additional verification icons to user accounts and chats, increasing transparency and eradicating scams and disinformation.

When a chat or account is third-party verified, a little badge shows before their name. If you go to their profile, you’ll find a detailed explanation of their status and what it signifies.

Telegram says that third-party verification is completely separate from the verified checkmarks that Telegram provides for public figures and organisations. In order to provide third-party verification to others, a service must first be verified by Telegram and complete an application.

Now custom chat folders support custom emojis, allowing Premium users to make their folders more expressive or minimalist by replacing text with specific icons.

In India, the cost of the Vivo T3x 5G has been lowered by Rs 1,000. Launched in April, the Vivo T series smartphone boasts a 6.72-inch full-HD display, a 6,000mAh battery that supports 44W fast charging, and a Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 SoC. The phone’s construction is rated IP64. It has Android 14 pre-installed.

After the price revision, the Vivo T3x 5G will be available at a reduced price of Rs 12,499 for the 4GB RAM with 128GB storage variant. Whereas the price of the 6GB RAM with 128GB storage model comes down to Rs 13,999 and the 8GB RAM with 128GB storage variant priced has been reduced to Rs 15,499.

The device was launched in India in April last year with a price tag of Rs 13,499 for the 6GB RAM with 128GB storage option. There is another 8GB RAM with a 128GB storage option which comes with a price tag of Rs 16,499. The device will be available in two colourways- Celestial Green and Crimson Bliss.

No-cost EMI options start at Rs 4,167 per month, and customers who purchase the phone through Flipkart can save Rs 1,500 on all credit and debit card transactions.

The phone can be purchased via Vivo e-store, Flipkart and offline stores in the country.

Vivo T3x 5G comes equipped with a 4nm-based Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 SoC, and up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM. The built-in RAM can be increased to 8GB using the extended RAM 3.0 capability. Up to 1TB of microSD card expansion is possible for the inbuilt storage. The phone is powered by Funtouch OS 14, which is based on Android 14.

The handset features a 6.72-inch full-HD LCD with 1,080×2,408 pixels of resolution. The display supports a refresh rate of 120Hz. It also comes with 1000 nits of peak brightness and 393 ppi pixel density.

Tecno Phantom V Fold2 Review: The perfect foldable for those on a budget

Tecno’s newest foldable brings one thing to the segment that we’ve all been asking for – affordability. While it is pricier than its predecessor, the Tecno Phantom V Fold2 is the most affordable foldable you can buy in India right now. Available in a single 12GB RAM + 512GB Storage variant, the smartphone is priced at Rs 99,999. The second iteration of the foldable gets a completely new design and some tweaks to the camera system. Of course, Tecno has made some trade-offs to keep the price of the device in check. We used the smartphone for a week to see if it is worth the investment. Here is our in-depth review of the Tecno Phantom V Fold2.

Tecno Phantom V Fold2 Review: Design and Displays

Before we talk about the foldable’s design and form factor, let’s take a look at what you get inside its retail box:

The Phantom V Fold2 flaunts a completely new design thanks to Tecno’s collaboration with Loewe (German electronics brand, not to be confused with the Spanish luxury fashion house). The revamped rear camera panel has a rectangular shape and a dual-tone colour theme. The faux leather back panel does not register any smudges or fingerprints.

The curved aluminium rails of the smartphone offer a good grip. The left edge of the frame houses the volume rocker keys and the side button. This side button doubles as a fingerprint reader. The primary speaker grille, USB port, and primary microphone lie on the bottom edge. The secondary speaker, SIM tray, and secondary microphone are positioned on the top edge of the smartphone. The device has an 11.8mm thickness in a folded form. When unfolded, the smartphone is just 6.1mm thick.

As far as the hinge mechanism goes, the Phantom V Fold2 is very impressive. The ‘aerospace-grade’ grade design is good for 400,000+ folds, as claimed by Tecno. The Loewe branding embossed on the spine adds to the aesthetic value of the device. However, the most incredible thing about the V Fold2’s design is its almost invisible crease. It is quite amazing that an affordable foldable has got the crease on a lock. It took us multiple attempts to spot the crease with the display turned off. When the display is turned on, it feels like you’re working on a small tablet.

Our only minor complaint with the device is its hinge resistance. The display holds up well at certain angles but glides shut in other positions. When the angle is closer to 90 degrees, the smartphone starts wobbling on the desk. While this isn’t a dealbreaker, we’d like to see Tecno resolve this issue in future iterations of its foldable.

Let’s talk about the Phantom V Fold2’s displays. The 6.42-inch LTPO AMOLED curved display has a 120Hz refresh rate and can reach a peak brightness of 1,600 nits. While it isn’t the brightest display we’ve ever seen, it gets the job done in outdoor daylight conditions. The 7.85-inch inner LTPO AMOLED display also has a 120Hz refresh rate. There are sizeable bezels around this display, which is something we like in a foldable since it limits accidental touches.

During the review period, we streamed movie and TV titles across major OTT platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, and Disney+ Hotstar on the Tecno Phantom V Fold2. The smartphone put up a delightful performance, relaying detailed pictures with punchy and rich colours. The handy Flex-Still Mode makes it easy to prop the phone on a table and view the content without needing a kickstand. The dual speaker setup on the smartphone is tuned by Dolby. While the audio output is loud, it sounds slightly tinny.

Tecno Phantom V Fold2 is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ chipset. This is the same chipset as its predecessor. The flagship Dimensity 9400 SoC would have been ideal for this smartphone, but a limited processor is one of the trade-offs that you will have to contend with.

The good thing is that the Phantom V Fold2 puts up a solid everyday performance. The apps take minimal time to load and the displays are fluid and very responsive. Multi-tasking on the larger display was a breeze as well. The foldable can run two apps at the same time with ease. Tasks like video calling, instant messaging, web browsing, and navigation are handled with expertise. On the Geekbench 6 app, the smartphone scored 1,334 points in the single-core test and 3,729 points in the multi-core test.

The gaming performance of the smartphone leaves more to be desired. We played the Call of Duty Mobile and Asphalt Legends Unit on medium graphics. Apart from the odd frame drop, the gameplay was largely smooth. Pushing the gameplay to high graphics introduces occasional jitters. Additionally, the smartphone starts warming up after 30 minutes of uninterrupted gameplay.

The Tecno Phantom V Fold2 runs Android 14-based HiOS 14 Fold out of the box. This is slightly disappointing as you’d expect flagships to run the latest OS version from the jump. Tecno’s promise of 2 major OS upgrades is far below the segment standard.

With the drawbacks out of the way, let’s talk about how the HiOS 14 performs in day-to-day usage. To begin with, the OS is well-optimised and quite snappy. The sharp animations and effects make the device fun to use. The software makes good use of the larger display, offering tools like the app bar, split-screen mode for apps, parallel windows, and more. In fact, there is an entire ‘Folding Screen Zone’ in device settings dedicated to the foldable functions of the smartphone.

Tecno has also added a good range of AI functions on the Phantom V Fold2. For starters, the smartphone has its own AI assistant called Ella. While we like the idea of OEMs creating their own AI bots, Ella has a long way to go before it catches up with the likes of Gemini. Tecno’s in-house AI assistant takes longer to come up with query responses than Google Gemini. Strangely, it cannot carry out some of the functions that are offered as prompts within the app (for example: resetting the lock screen password, checking for updates, etc.). However, its floating icon does a decent job of summarising web pages.

The Phantom Fold V2 now supports stylus input, but the pen is sold separately. The Notepad app is equipped with a handful of AI features that can detect your handwriting and convert it to text, create artwork from basic sketches, and do basic math.

Tecno has made significant improvements to the battery performance of its second foldable. The smartphone packs a 5,750mAh battery and supports 70W wired charging. During the review period, the Tecno Phantom V Fold2 lasted us an entire day with ease. Even when we pushed the smartphone to its boundaries, we were left with a 15-20% charge at the end of the day. The 70W power adapter provided in the box charges the smartphone to 100% in under 50 minutes.

The rear camera panel of the Phantom V Fold2 packs three 50MP sensors, one each for the primary shooter, telephoto lens, and ultrawide camera. The cover and inner displays are equipped with 32MP selfie cameras.

The 50MP primary shooter takes great images in outdoor daylight conditions. The images showcase a lot of detail and pack a good dynamic range. The sharpness and contrast levels are also on point. In limited lighting conditions, the smartphone does a great job of brightening the subject and removing noise from the images.

The 50MP ultrawide camera replicates the performance of the primary shooter. There is very little drop-off in the colour richness, which is amazing to see. However, the sharpness levels aren’t up there with the results from the primary sensor. This is something that is to be expected from most ultrawide sensors. The ultrawide sensor does a decent job of capturing images in limited lighting conditions. It brightens up the subject and assigns accurate colours to the surroundings. However, some grain manages to creep in the final shots.

The 50MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom also replicates the performance of the primary shooter. We found ourselves using this camera quite a lot due to the sharpness and the colour-richness of the images. This performance remained consistent in limited lighting conditions as well.

Portrait shots taken with the Phantom V Fold2 are sharp and well-focussed. The smartphone does a good job of separating the subject from the background and assigning it accurate colours. Our only gripe with the portrait shots is that they could use some more background blur. The 32MP selfie cameras on the cover and inner displays deliver good results, but one of the advantages of using a foldable is that you can take selfies using the primary camera. For video calls and quick selfies, the two 32MP selfies do a decent job.

The Tecno Phantom V Fold2 is the ideal foldable smartphone for those on a budget. Sure, the ‘budget’ foldable comes with tradeoffs like a relatively older chipset and limited software support, but the overall experience makes up for it. We are delighted to see that the tradeoffs don’t extend to the phone’s hardware. The Phantom V Fold2 has one of the most subtle creases we’ve seen on a foldable. Its back panel design is truly inspired and gives it a unique personality. The camera performance is also on point. Overall, we’d say that the foldable is well worth the Rs 99,999 price tag.

A 2022 policy requiring VPN providers to keep detailed customer records led to the removal of six VPN apps from the Google Play and Apple App Stores in India, including Cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1 and Hide.me, for violating stringent data restrictions. VPN companies NordVPN, ExpressVPN, and SurfShark have withdrawn their server infrastructure in response to India’s updated law, even though they are still serving Indian customers.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has ordered Apple and Google to take six VPN apps down from their Indian app stores, according to a TechCrunch article. because of failure to adhere to the nation’s stringent data regulations. The removals are a result of the Indian government’s implementation of its cybersecurity law from 2022, which mandates that VPN services retain user data for a period of five years.

This is the first time that these new regulations have been enforced on VPN providers in India.

Google and Apple did as instructed. Apps like PrivadoVPN and Hide.me are also impacted.

 A document reviewed by TechCrunch and a Google disclosure to Lumen, Harvard University’s database that monitors government takedown requests worldwide, both supported the move.

“In communication to one of the affected developers, seen by TechCrunch, Apple cited a “demand” from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center, part of the Ministry of Home Affairs, which deemed the developer content to contravene Indian law.”

Regulations to eliminate apps that breach cybersecurity standards are being implemented by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre. Although the enforcement plan seeks to stop internet activity, it also presents privacy and data protection issues. The regulations do not apply to corporate VPNs, but they do target cloud service providers, VPN services, and certain virtual private server organisations.

Many services are concerned about the rule, which requires VPN providers to keep user data, including names, addresses, IP addresses, and transaction history, for five years. Because of this, well-known VPN services like NordVPN, SurfShark, and ExpressVPN have ceased advertising their apps in India, even though they are still available to Indian users.
