2023 was the year when Android tablets finally upped their game and narrowed the distance to their iPad counterparts. The ambitious OnePlus Pad left a lasting impression on us when we reviewed it last year. Xiaomi put out the affordable Pad 6, which garnered good reviews across the board. In a bid to squash any budding competition, Apple released its new set of iPads at its ‘Let Loose’ event last month. The specced-out iPad Pro demands a whopping Rs 1,00,000, but if you’re not concerned with ‘Pro’ features, the iPad Air would be up your alley. While the updates on the 2024 iPad Air may be small, they are significant nonetheless. We used the tablet for a week, here is our iPad Air (2024) review. iPad Air 2024 (13-inch) Review: Design and Display

Before we jump into the form factor of the tablet, let’s take a look at what you get inside the iPad Air retail box.

The four colour options on offer (Space Grey, Blue, Purple, and Starlight) are a bit underwhelming but a safe choice from Apple. A couple of vibrant shades among the pastel options would have been ideal. iPad Air 2024 (13-inch) Review: Design and Display Over the years, Apple has perfected the design of the iPad. The 2024 iPad Air may seem indistinguishable from its previous-gen counterpart, but that’s not a bad thing. Tablets serve a specific functional value and the iPad has the perfect form factor for it. As the saying goes, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. However, there is one important tweak to this year’s iPad Air. The selfie camera has been moved to the longer bezel, which makes taking video calls in landscape orientation more natural. Interestingly, the selfie camera lacks Face ID tech, which is a bit of a letdown for an Apple product in this price range. design The aluminium back and frame exude strength and bring a premium feel to the device. The back panel has a matte finish but it is prone to smudges and fingerprints. The lone rear camera is positioned at the top left corner of the panel. Interestingly, the iPad Air is thicker (0.24 inches) than this year’s iPad Pro (0.20 inches), which makes us question what the ‘Air’ monicker means anymore. design The top landscape edge of the frame houses the volume rocker keys and a magnetic strip for docking the Apple Pencil. We used the Apple Pencil Pro with our iPad Air review unit and were quite pleased with the snappy locking mechanism and the ease of charging the drawing accessory. The side button, which also doubles up as the fingerprint sensor, is positioned on the left edge. The two portrait edges also house the speakers.  iPad Air 2024 (13-inch) Review: Design and Display One of the key things that differentiates the iPad Air from its Pro sibling is the display. The Air sports a 13-inch IPS LCD panel (also available in an 11-inch variant) while the Pro model rocks a superior OLED display. Having said that, the viewing experience on the iPad Air is exemplary. The blacks may not be as deep as an OLED panel but the image saturation and punchy colours elevate the media to the next level. Surrounding the display are thick bezels, which are a necessity on a tablet this size if you want to hold it without accidentally touching the screen.

The biggest highlight and the most important upgrade on the iPad Air 2024 is the M2 chip that lies at the heart of the device. The sheer power you have on your hands with the M2 chip is something that Android tablets cannot compete against (yet). On the Geekbench 6 app, the iPad Air scored 2,577 points in the single-core test and 9,872 points in the multicore test. iPad Air 2024 (13-inch) Review: Performance and Cameras We used the iPad Air for a multitude of tasks during the review period. Be it media streaming, social media browsing, video calling, or video editing, the M2 iPad Air crushes every task you throw at it. Now that the selfie camera is placed on the landscape bezel, the video feed on online meetings does not look off. The stereo speakers produce a powerful output that doesn’t make you feel the need to connect your AirPods or link an external speaker while consuming media. apple pencil For digital artists and graphic designers, the iPad is a no-brainer. While some may prefer the M4-powered Pro model, the Air is well-equipped to bring your creative vision to fruition. This is possible with the Apple Pencil Pro. The new squeeze functions on the Pencil Pro bring a lot of accessibility to the sketching and drawing experience. Changing the drawing tool with just a squeeze made everything very intuitive. Procreate remains one of the best apps you can download on your iPad and is a must-have for every digital artist. iPad Air 2024 (13-inch) Review: Performance and Cameras When you’ve got a chip as powerful as the M2 at your disposal, you need the software to be up to the task of unlocking its true potential. The iPadOS is quite lukewarm in this regard. Let’s start with the good bits. The Stage Manager on iPadOS 17 is important in juggling multiple tasks at once and quickly jumping between apps. You can group certain apps depending on the task at hand, and reposition, resize, and overlap the windows for a seamless and intuitive workflow. The app support for the iPad is also impressive, although there are some apps (we’re looking at you, Instagram) that still aren’t optimised for the iPad OS. performance If you want something simpler, the split-screen mode is a good alternative to the Stage Manager. By hitting the ellipses on top of the supported apps, you can open them in split-screen mode alongside another app. Streaming a football game while going through its live discussion thread on Reddit is something that your iPad can make happen with brilliant expertise. Moments like this are where the device truly shines. software As played out as it is, the discourse about the iPad being a laptop replacement isn’t going anywhere. The answer to that is still ‘close, but no’. As intuitive as the iPadOS 17, it simply isn’t enough to harness the power of the M2 chip. Being stuck with the watered-down tablet versions of apps like Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom when the processor can handle the full versions feels like a wasted opportunity. Apple recently announced the iPadOS 18 at this year’s WWDC event so the possibility of macOS making it to the iPad in the future seems bleak as well. ipad Apple does not specify the battery capacity or the charging speed for its iPads. Needless to say, they aren’t the fastest-charging tablets in the world. By our estimation, the charging speed is capped at 30W. Apple’s claim of a 10-hour battery life held up after performing tasks like gaming, video calling, sketching, and web browsing on the device. The two cameras on the iPad Air are optimum for video calling and attending online meetings. We were happy with the video quality relayed over video calls using the 12MP selfie camera. The 12MP rear camera can take decent shots in well-lit conditions, but it’s not something that will keep you from using your smartphone camera. It can record 4K videos at 24, 30, and 60 fps, which is impressive. The LiDAR scanner and Face ID have been held back on the iPad Air as a distinguishing feature for the Pro model. Verdict

The 2024 iPad Air is a good update over its predecessor. The M2 chip is the star of the show, handling intensive tasks without breaking a sweat. The LCD panel, while not as flashy as its OLED counterpart, produces a quality viewing experience on the tablet. Digital artists and creators will relish the Apple Pencil Pro and all its intuitive features. If you’re primarily concerned with making art, streaming media, editing videos, and browsing the web, you don’t need to splurge on the iPad Pro. It is a worthy upgrade over the entry-level A14 Bionic iPad. Prices start at Rs 59,900 for the 11-inch variants and Rs 79,900 for the 13-inch model.

Vivo hasn’t confirmed anything about the smartphone as of now, except the name and the launch date. They have coaxial two-way speakers and support 24-bit Hi-Fi audio. The improved ANC features of the Buds 2 Pro are 40% better than those of the prior model. Additionally, the gadget has two-way coaxial speakers. Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro was launched in India at Rs 17,999 in 2022. Right now on the Amazon India website, the TWS is priced at Rs 10,949. You can receive an additional discount of Rs 1,500 on the device by choosing to use an HDFC credit card to obtain a 12-month free EMI option. The Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro now only costs Rs 9,449 after the discount. A new smartphone from Samsung’s F series, the Galaxy F55 5G, was just released. The majority of Samsung’s phones often have similar design elements. So, what’s new this time? The F55 is the company’s latest product, featuring a vegan leather finish for the first time, which is also the device’s main selling point. We’ve been using the Samsung Galaxy F55 5G as our primary smartphone for a while now, and can now share our complete review with you. Let’s see if the smartphone is worth picking up.   

Samsung Galaxy F55 5G Review: Design and Display

Samsung Galaxy F55 5G Review: Design and Display People’s attention will be drawn to this handset because of its striking appearance. This appears significantly different in the Samsung arsenal. It is the Apricot Vegan Leather that we are reviewing. A stitch-like pattern runs along the edges, showcasing the excellent craftsmanship. The mobile looks stunning and feels more upscale because of the vivid orange colour option. Although vegan leather is not a new feature in the smartphone market, this is Samsung’s first phone with it. While this leather finish is seen on some other Samsung competitors’ smartphones, this one stands out because of the distinctive saddle stitch pattern. It’s worth noting that the product is also available in Resin Black. Samsung Galaxy F55 5G Review: Design and Display Because the golden colour frame fits so well with the brilliant orange finish, the in-hand feel is also extremely premium. Since the sides are somewhat curved rather than flat, it is comfortable to hold in your hands. To further add to the opulent appearance, the rear panel features three protruding camera modules with golden rings. Additionally, the Samsung logo is visible at the bottom. It looks great, thanks to Samsung’s design. Review of Samsung Galaxy F55 5G At the bottom are a speaker grille, a microphone, and a USB Type-C port. A noise-cancelling microphone is located at the top, while a SIM card slot is placed on the left. The device’s power on/off button and volume controls can be found on the right side. You can use two nano SIM cards or one nano SIM and one micro SD card because the phone has a hybrid SIM card slot. Review of Samsung Galaxy F55 5G The front panel features average-sized bezels with a top-centre punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera. Owing to its 86% screen-to-body ratio, the phone’s design provides a distinctive and high-end experience. The 6.7-inch full-HD+ sAMOLED Plus screen on the Samsung Galaxy F55 5G boasts a resolution of 2,400 x 1080 pixels. With Vision Booster, the display has a maximum brightness level of 1,000 nits and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The Samsung display is of excellent quality and has a very pleasant appearance. The adaptive brightness feature of the vision booster adjusts the screen’s brightness based on the surrounding conditions, ensuring optimal visual quality under all lighting scenarios. Review of Samsung Galaxy F55 5G As of right now, the screen appears to be well-balanced, bright and has good contrast. Outside visibility is only average. It would be challenging to see this screen in direct sunlight if it weren’t kept at its highest brightness.  On the flip side, the touch response is good, and the 120Hz refresh rate is smooth and hasn’t given us any jitters throughout testing. We had no trouble streaming Netflix and Prime video content on our phone. Full HD playback is supported on both of them. The device is Widevine L1 certified as well. Thus, Samsung phones offer the best multimedia experience. You will like this phone’s viewing experience whether you’re playing games, watching videos, or just tinkering with the screen. This phone’s dual speakers could have been of higher quality. They can go loud, of course, but when we turned the volume up to the maximum, we noticed some distortion. Samsung Galaxy F55 5G Review: Performance and Camera

So let’s talk about the performance now. Samsung chose Qualcomm’s 4 nm-based Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC, which is combined with up to 12 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 2.2 storage. However, it is an old chipset with a high reputation in the industry for its performance and efficiency in mid-range devices. The processor can handle day-to-day tasks efficiently, especially when paired with Samsung’s user interface. The phone functions effectively when multitasking and manages lighter applications with ease. The phone has been optimised to store apps in memory for extended periods.  However, considering the price, gaming is just passable. Excessive multitasking had a negative impact. Additionally, the phone heats easily because of its slim form factor, particularly in the area around the camera module. You can play the most popular titles like COD, BGMI, and Asphalt; nevertheless, you’ll want to lower the settings for consistent gameplay without heating issues. Furthermore, we do not advise you to get this phone if you are a heavy gamer. Casual gaming? Then yes. Review of Samsung Galaxy F55 5G Samsung Galaxy F55 runs on One UI 6.0, which is built on Android 14. Four years of software updates and five years of security patches are guaranteed to be included with the phone. Although the UI is identical to other Samsung phones, there are some pre-installed apps on it. Fortunately, most of them can be removed right away to make room for more apps. In addition, you will have access to Knox security and NFC functionality. You will, therefore,  have access to labs, a secure folder, and further customisation options. You also get to see the voice focus option during the call. You can edit images with an object eraser or the image clipper to remove the background from photos and then move it somewhere. Other than that, the Discover Page on the app screen and the Glance UI on the lock screen are a pain, but thankfully, you can turn them off. Leading the triple-rear camera array on the Samsung Galaxy F55 5G is a 50-megapixel primary sensor with a f1.8 aperture and capability for optical image stabilisation (OIS). A 2-megapixel macro lens and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens are also included with the camera setup. A 50-megapixel selfie camera with a f2.4 aperture is located up front. Review of Samsung Galaxy F55 5G A decent amount of details are provided when looking into the daytime capture. There’s a very broad dynamic range available in this smartphone. Although there were moments when the colours felt a little muted and the consistency of the colours wasn’t that fantastic, in all, we would say the colours are generally nice. All in all, we would say it’s a rather satisfying experience, with some photographs appearing rich and colourful and others a little washed out.  Review of Samsung Galaxy F55 5G Looking at the 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, the quality of the images is unimpressive. Let’s move on to the close-up photos, where you can see good sharpness levels and a good quantity of detail with wide colour combinations. We think there is a little oversharpening at times, but overall, it’s decent. Galaxy F55 5G performance The device also has a 2-megapixel macro sensor, which is average at best and has nothing particularly noteworthy about its quality. Galaxy F55 5G performance   Although skin tones are quite good in the portraits, the overall quality is not very impressive. The colours are fine, but the Bokeh effect is too sharp and lacks impact. At this pricing point, the Samsung Galaxy F55 5G’s photography performance should have been improved. Probably in the next software update, Samsung will take care of it. Galaxy F55 5G performance Here, in indoor lighting with quite excellent artificial light, the low-light experience is good. The colours are also wonderful, and there are plenty of details available. However, using night mode is usually a good idea when the light drops even further, and the experience appears to be average in this case. There is a lot of noise visible, and the clarity is not very good.  Galaxy F55 5G performance Moving on, the quality of the selfie camera was a little underwhelming despite having a 50-megapixel lens. The detail and skin tone don’t seem right. We also saw that some of our selfies had a greenish hue. Even the portrait selfies’ edge detection was on the average side. We have definitely seen better from Samsung Galaxy F55 5G performance The latest smartphones from Samsung have fast charging capabilities, and this is the first model in the F series to offer 45W of fast charging ability. It takes roughly 75 minutes to fully charge, although it can charge from zero to 50% in less than 30 minutes. Nonetheless, the Galaxy F55’s battery life has been excellent. When used extensively, you may easily get a full day’s endurance. On less demanding days, you can even achieve 1.5 days on a single charge, which is more than sufficient.

Verdict 

In 2024, the Samsung Galaxy F55 5G is the thinnest vegan leather smartphone available in the market. The black version of this phone would endure better under normal use circumstances than the orange version, which could become discoloured and soiled with time. Review of Samsung Galaxy F55 5G Because of its curved edges and flat panel design, this phone will be quite comfortable to handle if you use it frequently during the day. Samsung’s UI has also been tuned for 120Hz, and we did not notice any significant micro stuttering.  During prolonged gaming sessions, the phone rapidly heated up near the camera bump. Upon shutting the game, though, it instantly cools off.  The phone is using One UI 6.1, which is based on Android 14. Four years of operating system upgrades and five years of security updates will be provided by the firm. This is a really good smartphone for long-term use if you plan to use it for many years. The Samsung Galaxy F55 5G is ideal if you’re a big movie watcher. You might also give this smartphone some thought if you want a top-notch AMOLED screen for multitasking with games, web browsing, and social media scrolling. Pros

Through its Samsung Wallet app, Samsung is providing ticketing services in India in collaboration with Paytm. From the app, users can now book and save tickets for movies, events, buses, and flights. First-time booking discounts are also available through the app. It is limited to Samsung Galaxy phones, though. Samsung intends to introduce a referral scheme for its app, rewarding each successful referral with a Rs. 100 Amazon Gift Voucher. Additionally, the company intends to offer first-ticket booking discounts of up to Rs 1,150. Users of Samsung Galaxy smartphones will find the Samsung Wallet software convenient, although users of other smartphones can still utilise the Google Wallet app. Samsung announced its partnership with One97 Communications Limited which owns the Paytm brand via a blog post. Samsung has introduced a Galaxy F15 5G Airtel Edition in India today. It is a new variant of Galaxy F15 5G that was launched in March of this year, launched in collaboration with Airtel. The specs of the smartphone remain unchanged however the device will be strictly limited to the Airtel 5G network.

The Samsung Galaxy F15 5G Airtel Edition will be available in three different configurations. The price of the 4GB + 128GB is set at Rs 12,999, whereas the 6GB + 128GB model will cost Rs 14,499. The 8GB + 128GB option will come with a price tag of Rs 15,999. Flipkart is offering a Rs 750 discount coupon along with a 50GB free data offer on the smartphone. When using an ICICI or HDFC credit card, an instant discount of Rs 1,000 is offered. Note that customers must recharge using a plan that costs at least Rs 199 from the Truly Unlimited Plans as the phone is locked for 18 months after the date of activation.
