Oscar Surprise: Samsung revealed the Galaxy Z Flip during the event

The company rolled out a surprise ad of the foldable phone

It’s been over a month since the rumours and leaks related to the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Flip are doing rounds on the internet. Recently we came across leaked render as well as specifications of the foldable device. Now the latest is that the clamshell designed foldable phone made its first debut at the Academy Awards (Oscars 2020) on Sunday. Ahead of the official release, the company itself aired an advertisement for the device during the Oscars ceremony. 

To recall Samsung is going to host Galaxy Unpacked event on February 11 in San Francisco where it will be introducing Samsung Galaxy Z Flip alongside the Galaxy S20 series, which is the successor of the Galaxy S10 series. The company rolled out the ad of Galaxy Z Flip in the US giving us the first official look of the smartphone. The company showed the entire design as well as a few details of the device during its Oscars ad. The device set in motion and shuts off vertically similar to Motorola Razr (2019) that also carries a clamshell design.

As per the ad, the Galaxy Z Flip has an ability to plop down a 90-degree angle for video calling. Besides this, there is a secondary display that will reflect the caller’s ID during an incoming call and it also allows you to answer the call without having to open the phone.

To recall we recently came across leaked renders of the upcoming foldable device that also confirmed its pricing as well as availability details. As per the report, the phone will be up for sale in Europe from February 12 a day after the official launch. It is expected to carry a price tag of 1,500 euros that translates to Rs 1,17,203 as per Indian currency. In this price segment, the handset is going to compete with the newly launched Motorola Razr (2019) as well as Apple devices. 

Moreover, it is going to come with a  6.7-inch full-HD+ Super AMOLED display with Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ SoC paired with  8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It will have a two-part battery with a capacity of 3,300mAh with a 15W charger and supported by up to 9 watts of wireless charging option.

There will be a fingerprint scanner on the edge of the case on one side. The flexible screen is going to equip the front camera of 10 megapixels for selfies. The device is going to feature two main cameras one on the rear of 12 megapixels. Furthermore, the main sensor has an F / 1.8 aperture and a 123-degree field of view whereas the ultra-wide-angle camera has an F / 2.2 aperture.
