Sony SRS-XV500 Review: Compact Design, Surprisingly Powerful Sound

In a world where the quest for the perfect blend of portability and sonic excellence seems endless, Sony throws down the gauntlet with the introduction of the SRS XV-500. This marvel of audio engineering does not merely aspire to join the ranks of portable speakers; it aims to lead them, offering a symphony of sound quality, innovative features, and a design that exudes sophistication. From the moment you lay eyes on its elegant contours and feel the premium materials in your hands, it’s clear that the SRS-XV500 is not just a speaker—it’s an experience. As we delve deeper into this review, we’ll uncover how Sony has crafted not just a device that plays music, but a portal to an auditory journey unlike any other, setting a new standard for what we expect from portable audio. This is the Sony SRS-XV500 speaker review you all have been waiting for.

Sony SRS-XV500 Review: Design

Last year we reviewed its bigger brother the Sony SRS-XV900, which was a great speaker at the price point. Now we have the younger brother launched in 2024 that is half the size of the elder sibling. It is lighter and very portable. Out of the box, you can see the neat looks it has got from the rest of the kin.

There are plenty of similarities, like the dancing RGB LED lights on top and bottom. A top-facing feather touch control panel is present, which has everything from volume controls to Bluetooth buttons. Here you will also see the Mega Bass button that will boost the bass to incredible levels.

Sony SRS-SV500 back panel

Turn it around and you will find the ports hidden behind a rubber panel to keep them safe from any accidental splashes. Here you also get a couple of auxiliary inputs to attach an electric guitar or Karaoke MIC, along with the volume knobs. A 3.5 mm audio port is also available. With that the battery level button, USB A port as well as the power port are placed here.

On the front, you will see an array of speakers. Behind a metal grille are two twin tweeters and two woofer units. Together they are capable of producing fantastic resonance.

One additional feature we want to mention here is that you can place the Sony SRS-XV500 vertically or horizontally on any flat surface. So, in case you want to use this wireless speaker as a sound bar for your television, you absolutely can. Over that, this speaker is made of recycled plastic as part of Sony’s sustainability initiative.

Sony SRS-XV500: Performance

While we have said it before, we will say it again, Sony has mastered the audio game and the Sony SRS-XV500 is another great example. This sound maestro kept taking all the fast, swinging balls, and even yorkers’, we kept throwing at it like a champ.

The device supports Bluetooth(BT) up to version 5.2. So we tested it with a laptop that supports BT v5.0, where the sound was decent. However, when we switched to a mobile phone that supports BT v5.2, the audio became exceptional. To test, on both devices we played music locally, via Amazon Music and through YouTube Music.

We used it like a sound bar with the flat screen telly and the experience was superb. We played a lot of Netflix shows, watched a sports event and even some news. We were never unhappy. The vocals are clear, the bass is good when needed and it does justice to the action sequences.

Moving on to the battery life. While Sony claims it can provide 25 hours of battery juice after a full charge, on our test bench it did a wee bit less. We were able to get 23 hours (approx) of battery life. This is still great as you are getting almost a full day of continuous playback. So the part never stops. With that, the Sony SRS-XV500 can provide up to 2.5 hours of playback in just 10 minutes of charge.

Verdict

Weighing in at just 11.2 kg, the Sony SRS-XV500 is remarkably portable, and it’s equipped with an IPX4 rating, making it resistant to water splashes—though it’s crucial to remember it’s not fully waterproof, so avoid submerging it.

And about the sound? We were thoroughly impressed. Ultimately, the value hinges on your budget. The speaker’s MRP stands at Rs 39,990, but savvy shoppers might snag it for a bit less in the market. So, is it worth the investment? Absolutely. Whether for indoor settings or outdoor gatherings, this speaker delivers exceptional performance. We highly recommend it.

What is Snapchat Planet Order and how does it work? (2024)

Initially known for ephemeral messaging, Snapchat has evolved to become one of the key messaging apps that drive social relationships among young people. If you’re new to Snapchat, you may be baffled by the different emojis and badges assigned to your friends, but they all hold a significant meaning. Users who are subscribed to Snapchat+ get access to special features like chat wallpapers, custom app themes, solar system, and more. In this article, we explain what the Snapchat Solar System is and what the Planet Order in it means.

What do the Snapchat Planets mean?

What do the Snapchat Planets mean solar system

Exclusively available to Snapchat+ users, the ‘Planets’ model maps your friendships in the vein of our Solar System. The Sun in this model represents the user whose profile you have selected. The planet next to the Sun is assigned to you. Depending on the volume of your interactions with the person, you could either be Mercury or Neptune.

The order of the planets is self-explanatory. The closest friend is assigned Mercury, the person next in line is assigned Venus, and so on. The real kicker is that Snapchat does not display the names of the planets in this model. You will need to rely on your Solar System knowledge to accurately guess the planet depicted in the image. Or you can simply read along and let us do it for you.

You can view your position in your friend’s Snapchat Solar System by going to their profile and tapping on the ‘Best Friends’ or ‘Friends’ badge. If you are ‘Best Friends’ with a user, it means you’re in each other’s top 8 friends. If you simply see the ‘Friends’ badge, it means you’re in their top 8 but they are not in yours.

Snapchat Planet Order Explained

Can’t figure out which planet you are sitting on in your friend’s Snapchat Solar System? Check out this explainer.

  • Mercury: The first planet in the Solar System and the planet closest to the Sun, Mercury means you are the user’s closest friend. It is depicted as a red planet and has 5 red hearts floating around it.
  • Venus: If you’re sitting on top of Venus it means you are the user’s second closest friend. It is represented by a brown ball with five pink, yellow, and blue hearts orbiting it.
  • Earth: The most recognisable planet of the lot, Earth is represented by a mini globe and denotes that you are the third-closest friend in the user’s friend list. Orbiting the Earth is the moon and four red hearts.
  • Mars: The red planet is denoted by a bright red ball in Snapchat’s planet order. There are three blue and purple hearts floating around Mars. If you’re sitting on the planet, it means you are the user’s fourth best friend.
  • Jupiter: Jupiter also gets a reddish shade in Snapchat’s planet order, but it can be easily recognised by its stripes and swirls. There are no hearts floating around Jupiter. If you see Jupiter on your friend’s profile, it means you are their fifth closest friend.
  • Saturn: The most identifiable feature of Saturn is its rings, and sure enough, its Snapchat representation gets those rings as well. In your friend’s Solar System, this planet is coloured orange. If you see it, it means you are the user’s sixth best friend.
  • Uranus: The green planet around the Sun is Uranus. It is also the first planet in Snapchat’s Solar System model that does not receive any rays of light from the Sun, depicting how far away it is from the celestial body. If you see Uranus it means you are the user’s seventh closest friend.
  • Neptune: The blue planet in Snapchat’s Solar System model is Neptune. It signifies that you are the user’s eight closest friend. The list cuts off at Neptune as Snapchat only takes into account the top 8 friends.

It is anticipated to reveal glimpses of upcoming devices, such as the Google Pixel 8a.

Google’s annual event is expected to make announcements on Android XR and Gemini. It’s anticipated that fresh information regarding Android 15, Chrome, and other Google products will be revealed.

As previously said, the Pixel 8a from Google is anticipated to make its debut at the annual I/O developer conference. In comparison to the Pixel 7a, Google may enhance the hardware of the Pixel 8a. Rumour mills suggest that Pixel 8a has a display with a higher refresh rate.

It might have the same Tensor G3 chipset as the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. Wireless charging and DisplayPort output compatibility are anticipated for the upcoming Android device. It is reported that the Pixel 8a will keep the same camera configuration as the Pixel 7a.

Google I/O 2024: Here are the top 5 things you can expect at Google’s summer event

Google’s annual I/O event is something we look forward to every summer. Known for breaking new advancements in tech and software, Google also uses I/O’s stage to showcase its upcoming products. Last year, the Pixel Fold made its debut at the event. Google I/O 2024 is set to take place on May 14 and is expected to be a relatively quiet affair compared to last year. This doesn’t mean there won’t be some exciting announcements at the event. Here are the top 5 things to look forward to at Google’s summer event.

Google Pixel 7a Review: Is it an all-rounder phone at Rs 44,000?
Google Pixel 7a

As is tradition, Google will unveil its latest affordable Pixel at its annual I/O event. Based on the Pixel 8 Series (our review here), the 8a will be powered by the company’s Tensor G3 processor. If the rumours are to be believed, the Pixel 8a will be the first A series Pixel to feature a 120Hz OLED display. Pixel 7a (our review here) was the first affordable Pixel to make the switch to a 90Hz display – a big upgrade over the 60Hz display of the Pixel 6a (our review here). As far as the design and form factor are concerned, the Pixel 8a will match the flagship 8 Series (our review here).

Google Pixel Fold 2 and Tablet 2 release on the cards?

Pixel Fold price expected
Google Pixel Fold

2023’s Google I/O event saw the company’s first-ever foldable phone make its debut. Google’s first-generation Pixel Fold can hold its own among the sea of folding phones. Its passport-shaped design lends it a unique look and makes it easy to operate. Powering the smartphone is the Tensor G2 SoC. Keeping up with the latest trends, Google is expected to release the Pixel Fold 2 this year. However, with no rumours or leaks surfacing on the Internet as of yet (which is very out of character for a Google device), we don’t expect the smartphone to be announced at the I/O 2024 event.

A later release date could mean that the Pixel Fold 2 will skip the Tensor G3 SoC entirely and come equipped with the Tensor G4, like its Pixel 9 Series counterparts. The Pixel Tablet 2 will also be absent from the 2024 I/O event. Google may release a teaser for the second iteration of its in-house tablet, but a release is not on the cards for the next few months.

Android 15 will bring a host of new features with it

Android 15 will bring a host of new features with it Google I/O 2024: Here are the top 5 things you can expect at Google’s summer event

While there won’t be a lot of product launches at Google I/O 2024, you can expect a lot of activity on the OS front. Last year, the Android 14 OS barely got mentioned at Google’s I/O. This will not be the case in May 2024. The first Beta version of Android 15 is set to go live in April, and it will form a significant part of Google’s keynote at the I/O 2024 event. The new OS will improve Google’s Find My Device feature, adding the option to track devices that are switched off. In a bid to reduce online scams, the new Android 15 OS will prevent malicious apps from reading the sensitive OTPs on your phone. We expect Google to hold back some features on the first Beta version of Android 15 for a grand reveal at I/O 2024.

New AI advancements

New AI advancements  Google I/O 2024: Here are the top 5 things you can expect at Google’s summer event

After Open AI broke the mainstream with Chat GPT, it was only a matter of time before AI tech was integrated into our smartphones. Google has had some success with its AI models, which power the Pixel 8 Series as well as the latest Samsung Galaxy S24 Series. While the company has faced a fair share of challenges in matching Open AI’s advancements with Chat GPT, Google’s Gemini model looks like it is here to stay. The company will likely showcase Gemini’s integration with its Android suite of apps at this year’s I/O. In an unexpected turn of events, it was recently reported that Google may join hands with Apple and bring Gemini to iPhones. If that is the case, the I/O 2024 would be the perfect stage to break the news.

If we’re lucky, we could get a glimpse at Google’s latest flagship series of smartphones. Not much is known about the Pixel 9 Series, just like the Pixel Fold 2 and Tablet 2, which means it certainly won’t be announced at I/O 2024. However, Google could tease the two smartphones and perhaps confirm a few details related to the processor. The official launch for the Pixel 9 Series will take place later in the year and it will be interesting to see how Google lines it up with the release of the Pixel Fold 2.

Compared: Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 vs Snapdragon 8 Gen 2

0

Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 SoC will be seen in a lot of midrange smartphones this year. With specs comparable to the premium 8 Gen 3 chipset, the 8s Gen 3 carries the ‘flagship killer’ reputation. We compared the two chipsets earlier, and the 8 Gen 3 unsurprisingly emerged as the clear winner. A comparison with last year’s flagship chipset seemed the logical step, so we’ve done just that in this article. Take a look at how the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 fares against the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 vs 8 Gen 2: CPU

The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 and 8 Gen 2 are based on TSMC’s 4nm process node. Both chipsets feature 8 Kyro CPU cores but with a different layout. The prime Cortex-X4 core on the 8s Gen 3 is clocked at 3.0GHz. Meanwhile, the S8G2 SoC uses the 3.2GHz Cortex-X3 as its prime core. There are four performance cores (Cortex-A720) on the 8s Gen 3 running at 2.8GHz and three efficiency cores (Cortex-A520) clocked at 2.0GHz. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has two Cortex-A715 performance cores clocked at 2.8GHz, another two Cortex-A710 performance cores running at 2.8GHz, and three efficiency cores (Cortex-A510) running at 2.0GHz. Both CPUs are pretty evenly matched, but the 8s Gen 3 edges it with a slim margin. Its performance cores produce a better output than 2023’s flagship chipset.

Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 vs 8 Gen 2: CPU

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has the better GPU out of the two chipsets. The clock speed of 8s Gen 3’s Adreno 735 has not been made public by Qualcomm as of yet. S8G2’s Adreno 740 GPU clocks at 680MHz. The former scores 550k in benchmark tests while the latter reaches up to 600k. The Adreno 735 is an underclocked version of the Adreno 750 and sits below the Adreno 740 in the hierarchy.

Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 vs 8 Gen 2: AI

AI tech keeps evolving rapidly every year, leading to better-performing chipsets. 2024’s 8s Gen 3 SoC outperforms the 8 Gen 2 even though both chipsets share the same Hexongonal NPU. The S8sG3 can run on-device AI models with up to 10 billion parameters. This makes it equipped to handle tasks like AI image generation and operating AI virtual assistants. The chipset also supports more than 30 Large Language Models (LLMs) and Large Vision Models (LVMs).

Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 vs 8 Gen 2: Camera support

Both chipsets allow photo capture up to 200MP but the S8G2 is the clear winner when it comes to video recording support. 2023’s flagship chipset can facilitate 8K video recordings at 30 fps and 4K recordings at 120 fps. It can also take 720p slow-motion videos at 960 fps. Meanwhile, the 8s Gen 3 lacks support for 8K videos. It can record 4K videos at 60 fps. Its slow-motion recording chops are limited to 240 fps, albeit at a better resolution (1080p).

Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 vs 8 Gen 2: Storage and connectivity

Talking about the storage specs, both chipsets offer UFS 4.0 storage and LPDDR5X memory. However, the S8sG3 has more favourable transfer speeds due to the presence of USB 3.1 Gen 2. The S8G2 supports USB 3.1 Gen 1. Both chipsets use the same modem (Snapdragon X70) but have vastly different download speeds. The 8s Gen 3 lags behind with speeds of up to 5Gbps while the 8 Gen 2 can reach speeds of up to 10Gbps. The upload speed on both chipsets is 3.5Gbps. The two chipsets rock the latest WiFi 7, but the S8sG3 edges ahead with Bluetooth 5.4. The S8G2 SoC supports Bluetooth 5.3.

Verdict

While there was a clear winner in the comparison between Snapdragon 8sG3 and 8G3, the two chipsets here are more evenly matched. The 8sG3 very narrowly comes ahead in the CPU department with its powerful performance cores. However, the GPU on Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is inarguably better. For us, the key difference lies in the AI department, with the 8s Gen 3 proving to be a better chipset and handling on-device AI models with up to 10 billion parameters. This makes it a better chipset for 2024 smartphones, which will be looking to catch up to the AI trailblazers in Samsung Galaxy S24 and Google Pixel 8.

YouTube wants content creators to disclose AI-generated videos on the platform

Key Highlights

  • YouTube is launching a new feature that will force video creators to disclose whether the content they upload is AI-generated.
  • It is necessary to add YouTube labels to videos in both long and short formats.

In an effort to curb artificial intelligence (AI)-)-generated content on its platform, YouTube has requested that content creators declare a video has been modified or created using AI tools. In addition to this, it is necessary to include an AI content label when a video on a delicate subject is posted. If they fail to do so, YouTube will automatically apply labels. YouTube will also penalise creators who fail to disclose AI-generated content.

YouTube is launching a new feature that will force video creators to disclose whether the content they upload has been significantly altered or is artificially created and appears realistic. As per the company, this tool will make it simple for content creators to include this disclaimer because it will be integrated into the existing upload procedure.

The company via blog post said, “Generative AI is transforming creativity on YouTube, which means that we need to transform the ways we are maintaining a transparent and healthy ecosystem for both creators and viewers. That’s why we’re beginning to roll out a new tool today that will require creators to share when the content they’re uploading is meaningfully altered or synthetically generated and seems realistic. This new tool will live in the existing upload flow, making it easy for creators to add this disclosure.”

It should be noted that it is necessary to add YouTube labels to videos in both long and short formats. Otherwise, the company will penalise content creators who fail to disclose AI content. “To help creators, we may proactively select disclosure on their behalf if they disclose the use of altered or synthetic content in the title or description of their video.”

The YouTube labels will first show up on mobiles and tablets, according to YouTube. New labels will share with viewers the context that creators share in the upload flow. This extra transparency will show up in the expanded description for the majority of videos.

If a creator creates a YouTube Shorts that makes use of one of YouTube’s generative artificial intelligence (AI) effects, such as Dream Track or Dream Screen, there are no additional steps required to disclose currently. The tool will automatically disclose the use of AI for creators. YouTube will add a label to the description section of creators’ videos if they choose “Yes” to highlight that their content is synthetic or altered. Also disclosing content as altered or synthetic won’t affect their viewership or impact its eligibility to earn money.

“It can be misleading if viewers think a video is real when it’s actually been meaningfully altered or synthetically generated to seem realistic. When content is undisclosed, in some cases YouTube may take action to reduce the risk of harm to viewers by proactively applying a label that creators will not have the option to remove “, the company said.

Compared: Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 vs Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

Qualcomm is not new to introducing slightly tweaked versions of their flagship chipset. Back in 2022, the tech powerhouse released the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC which promised 30% better power efficiency and 10% faster graphics than its predecessor. This chipset found its way into the flagship grade of 2022 like the OnePlus 10T and Samsung’s Galaxy Z 4 Series. In 2023 the S8+G2 powered flagship killers like Nothing Phone 2, iQOO Neo 7 Pro, and OnePlus 11R. Now, Qualcomm has introduced a new variant of its flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. Dubbed Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, this SoC supports generative AI functions and dozens of LLMs and LVMs. However, unlike the S8+G1, the S8sG3 SoC is not as powerful as its predecessor.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has a higher-performing CPU

Both chipsets use 8 cores, although they are arranged differently. The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 clocks slightly lower than the S8G3 SoC. The two chipsets have 1 prime Cortex-X4 core which clocks at 3.0GHz. The 8s Gen 3 has 4 performance cores clocked at 2.8GHz and 3 efficiency cores clocked at 2.0GHz. Meanwhile, the 8 Gen 3 has 5 performance cores running at 3.2GHz and 2 efficiency cores at 2.3GHz.

Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is within touching distance of S8G3’s GPU performance

The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 runs on the Adreno 735 GPU while the 8 Gen 3 is powered by Adreno 750. Both SoCs support Hardware Accelerated Ray Tracing, but Qualcomm’s flagship chipset also offers Global Illumination. This means that the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 won’t have the added advantage of producing close-to-real lighting, shadows, and reflections. On the bright side, the Adreno 735 matches the 750 with HDR gaming, Adreno Frame Motion Engine 2.0, Shadow Denoiser, and more.

The 8s Gen 3 goes all guns blazing on the AI front

The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 will bring a host of AI features to midrange and flagship killer smartphones of 2024. Using the same Hexagon NPU as the S8G3, the 8s G3 can run on-device AI models with up to 10B parameters. The chipset can handle tasks like AI image generation, photo expansion, and virtual assistance. There is support for over 30 LLMs and LVMs on the new S8sG3 chipset.

Let’s talk about the camera support

The two chipsets are capable of capturing up to 200MP photos. If we’re talking about the photo-capturing performance of the main sensor, the smartphones running the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 will easily match their flagship counterparts. However, significant differences are bound to arise in the video-capturing department. While the S8G3 SoC can record 8K videos @ 30 fps, the S8sG3’s chops are limited to 4K videos @ 60fps. Even while recording slow-motion videos, the flagship chipset is capable of recording at an impressive 960fps while the 8s Gen 3 is limited to 240fps.

Storage and Connectivity

Both chipsets are pretty evenly matched when it comes to connectivity, with support for Bluetooth 5.4, WiFi 7, and Bluetooth LE Audio. However, the key difference lies in the download speed offered by the two SoCs, and the flagship chipset emerges as the clear winner. With the Snapdragon X75 5G modem on board, the 8 Gen 3 supports download speeds of up to 10Gbps. The Snapdragon X70 5G modem on the new chipset offers a maximum download speed of 5Gbps. The two chipsets rock UFS 4.0 storage and LPDDR5X memory, but the flagship chipset functions at 4,800MHz while the 8s Gen 3 is limited to 4,200MHz.

Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 vs Snapdragon 8 Gen 3: Verdict

It should surprise no one that Qualcomm’s flagship chipset is the clear winner here. It has higher clock speeds, premium GPU features like Global Illumination, advanced video recording specs, better download speeds, and more. The good thing about the new Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is that it almost matches these specs, trailing behind only by a very slim margin. This chipset will thrive on upper midrange smartphones this year and we are excited to try out the AI features it will bring to the segment.

YouTube Music releases hum to search feature: Details inside

Key Highlights

  • After YouTube Google is extending its hum to search feature for Youtube Music.
  • The ‘hum to search’ feature was added to the Android app for YouTube in October 2023.
  • Simply humming, whistling, or singing will allow users to search for their preferred song quickly.

According to reports, YouTube Music is gaining a feature that will make music searches simpler than they were. The music streaming platform owned by Google will soon allow you to search for music just by humming or singing. Like the video platform, YouTube Music will get a dedicated Song search option in the app, enabling this feature.

First introduced to YouTube’s Android app in October 2023, the hum to search feature looks to be making its way into the company’s music app as well. To achieve the intended outcome, users can sing, hum, or play a song using this tool. The song search function from YouTube’s Android app is now available on YouTube Music, according to a 9to5Google report. This feature is currently being rolled out to apps for iOS and Android to a limited number of users and the larger rollout hasn’t begun yet. It appears that it functions in the same way on YouTube Music just like it works for videos. However, users will notice a specific icon adjacent to the voice button rather than having to navigate through the voice search and then locate the Song icon.

While using the YouTube app on an Android device, users only need to touch the microphone icon in the search bar to bring up the Voice and Song tabs. While users can perform verbal searches using the voice tab, they can also hum, whistle, play, or sing a song to have an artificial intelligence (AI) recognise it and match it to the original.

Here is how to use hum to search feature on the YouTube Music App:

  • In the upper right corner of the YouTube Music App, tap the search icon.
  • Users also have the option to use the dedicated search button that is located next to the voice search option.
  • To start a song search, select the Song option.
  • For ten to fifteen seconds, hum, whistle, or sing the song that you are looking for.
  • Then, using your audio input, YouTube will suggest possible matches.

Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 which is intended to be priced and feature-level below its flagship model- the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is said to offer experiences that improve your creativity, entertainment, productivity, and more. It also gets support for generative AI functions letting you create images and other content on the go. As per the company the Qualcomm AI Engine supports multi-modal models, including more than 30 large language models (LLMs) and large vision models (LVMs), and allows for on-device generative AI at lightning-fast speeds—up to 10B parameters. Users will be able to generate content using simple text, voice, and image prompts, while contextually aware AI tailors recommendations based on usage.

At the heart of Dyson‘s Supersonic Nural Hair Dryer lies an arsenal of state-of-the-art features designed to prioritize scalp health and enhance the natural shine of hair. The brainchild of Dyson’s relentless commitment to research and development, this intelligent hair dryer boasts groundbreaking Nural sensor technology, setting a new benchmark in hair care innovation.

James Dyson, Founder and Chief Engineer of Dyson, expressed his excitement about this groundbreaking invention, stating, “If you’re able to limit heat damage, you can get a healthier scalp; and healthier hair. Our new Supersonic Nural has a time of flight sensor which recognizes your head and reduces the heat as it gets close to your hair, preventing heat damage to both your scalp and your hair.”

Key to the Supersonic Nural Hair Dryer’s prowess is its Scalp Protect mode, powered by a network of Nural sensors. These sensors work in tandem to automatically adjust heat and airflow, providing optimal scalp comfort and drying speed while minimizing the risk of damage. A time-of-flight sensor precisely measures the distance between the machine and the hair, ensuring that heat is reduced to the optimum temperature of 55°C when close to the scalp.

Furthermore, the hair dryer’s Attachment Learning feature revolutionizes styling routines by memorizing users’ preferences and automatically applying their preferred heat and airflow settings for each styling attachment. This intelligent adaptation not only streamlines the styling process but also ensures consistent results tailored to individual needs.

Shawn Lim, Head of Research at Dyson, shed light on the scientific foundation behind the Scalp Protect mode, stating, “From our research into the science of hair, we know that there is a connection between the quality of hair and a healthy scalp. The Scalp Protect mode helps to maintain scalp moisture levels and allows for gentle drying, thus promoting scalp health.”

In addition to its new technology, the Supersonic Nural Hair Dryer boasts a range of new attachments catering to various hair types and styling needs. From the Gentle Air Attachment for fast yet gentle styling to the Flyaway Smoother utilizing the Coanda effect to tame flyaways, Dyson ensures versatility and performance across the board.
