Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G Review: Superb Design With Great Camera Quality

We finally got our hands on one of Xiaomi’s latest smartphone models in India, the Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G. The all-new Android 12 supporting mobile device offers 8GB/12GB RAM in combination with 128GB/256GB internal storage. It has a Qualcomm SM8450 Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 (4 nm) chipset and an Octa-core processor. The phone is powered by a 4,600mAh battery, which supports 120W fast charging. Among the most highlighted features of the smartphone is its 50MP+50MP+50MP triple rear camera system along with a 32MP front camera. Although the specifications of the new Xiaomi 12 Pro seem exceptional, we dug in deeper to check whether it stands true to its name or not. Here is a complete review of the all-new Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G, covering (in detail) everything from its design to its CPU and camera performance.

Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G Review: Design and Display

The Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G comes riding in a huge rectangular box. Clearly visible from the size of the package is the care and support that the brand provides along with the smartphone. Apart from the mobile device, the contents of the package include a 120W adapter, a USB Type-C cable, a SIM eject tool, a transparent silicone case, a quick start guide as well as a Type-C to 3.5mm headphone adapter.  Xiaomi 12 Pro Curved Edges Upon opening the package, you’ll come face to face with the 6.73-inch shiny display of the Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G, having an 89.6% screen-to-body ratio. The screen appears to be pretty large lengthwise. Picking up the device in your hands will make you forget all about its weight. The curved edges of its display will be the first thing that catches your eye. Yes, the all-new Xiaomi 12 pro 5G comes with a curved display. Its sleek surface turns sideways elegantly and lights up your mood, unlike anything. Moreover, the screen comes with a protection of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.  Back Cover Flip over the phone and you’ll be staring at its plastic back, which has a subtle glittery touch and a matte feel. The smartphone is offered in three colours in India, Couture Blue, Opera Mauve, and Noir Black. We were able to get our hands on its black colour model. The glitter sparkles quickly take the limelight when you take the phone for a night out. The rear triple camera system along with the flashlight is neatly fitted into the mount, which is body-coloured. The mount is divided into several compartments proportionally, to fit each camera and flashlight. This makes them appear as if they are resting in separate rooms, but you have a top cross-sectional view of their house.  Xiaomi 12 Pro Frame The frame of the smartphone is slightly darker than the body colour. On the right side lie the volume and power buttons while the left side is left blank. At the bottom lies its USB Type-C port, SIM card tray as well as one of the stereo speakers. The device does not come with a headphone jack, which Xiaomi compensates for by providing the customers with the Type-C to 3.5mm headphone adapter. At its top lies the other of the two speakers and an LED charging indicator. Again, each feature on its exterior rests within its marked territory. Some may find this unique design highlight appealing while others may think the smartphone is better off without them. Bringing the phone to life has been made extremely hassle-free by the brand. Unlike other smartphones, which require you to undergo the initial setup process, the Xiaomi 12 Pro takes you directly to the home screen as soon as you long press the power button. This may appear a lot more convenient to many. The screen resolution is 1,440 x 3,200 pixels and the aspect ratio is 20:9, with about 521ppi density. The 120Hz AMOLED DotDisplay immediately pleases the eye with its colourful lighting, brightness, and contrast balance. But when taken under direct sunlight, the screen brightness has to be set to at least 70-80% for it to be clearly legible.  The experience of watching videos on Youtube is very life-like. The video streaming quality can be upgraded to a maximum of 2,160 pixels at a rate of 60fps in HDR. The clarity offered is amazing, and so is the colour scheme and screen lighting. The curved edges of the smartphone along with its stereo audio system work in favour of providing an altogether cinematic experience. Watching movies and TV shows on Netflix was also commendable. The stereo audio of the Xiaomi 12 Pro works decently and complements the whole streaming process.  Xiaomi 12 Pro Gaming Experience Gaming on the smartphone was tested by playing Asphalt 9 Legends on it. The graphics quality is quite appreciable. The colours are vibrant and have a pop element in them. The touch experience is fluid and smooth while the response to the touch commands is swift. This, coupled with the stereo sound of the smartphone, takes the entire gaming experience to the next level.  Overall, the design of the Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G is modest. Speaking of it display, its curvy edges surely add a character of elegance to the smartphone, apart from enhancing the streaming experience. Although the brightness of the screen is impressive indoors, its outdoor intensity has a scope of augmenting.  Read also: iQOO Z6 Review: Great Design And Camera Quality At This Price

Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G Review: Performance and Cameras.

Elaborating further on the Xiaomi 12 Pro specifications, the device is offered with 8GB/12GB RAM in combination with 128GB/256GB internal memory. The nano dual-SIM supporting phone comes with a Qualcomm SM8450 Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 (4 nm) Octa-core processor and Adreno 730 GPU. It has a 4,600mAh battery capacity, which supports 120W fast charging. Wireless charging, as well as reverse wireless charging, is part of the package too. The phone can get fully charged in about half an hour via fast charging through a traditional wall socket. Overall, it has a good battery life. Upon mild usage, it can last for more than 2 days while upon moderate to heavy usage, it can last for about 1.5 days. Smartphone Home Screen and App Drawer Users get to enjoy Android 12 OS on the brand new smartphone with MIUI skin on top. The interface is pretty easy and efficient to use. Apps on the home screen come already classified within different folders based upon usage, which you can modify according to your personal requirements. The app drawer also categorises the apps based on their utility. Icons have a square shape and their size, look and feel is quite comfortable for usage. The screen appears vibrant and colourful while the touch is soft and fluid. The device, however, seems to get heated up easily even with moderate usage when under warm weather conditions found in New Delhi, India. The 4-speaker stereo audio system of the Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G is tuned by Harman Kardon. You would notice the Harman/Kardon branding on the top side of the frame as well. In terms of loudness, the audio works satisfactorily. Setting the sound to 70% or more would give you a majestic experience through the device. During gaming, the audio loudness sinks slightly to the lower side. However, we feel pumping the audio a little bit more could have made it even more thrilling.  Xiaomi 12 Pro Triple Camera System Coming to the Xiaomi 12 Pro camera review, it comes with a 50MP+50MP+50MP triple rear camera system along with a 32MP selfie camera. Six zoom modes are provided for its rear cameras, 0.6x, 1x, 2x, 5x, 10x, and 20x. No zoom options are provided for the front camera. Moreover, zoom options are provided even with the Night Mode and the 50MP Mode for the rear camera. Videos can be recorded from the rear camera up to a whopping 8k resolution at a 24fps frame rate and in 4k at both 30fps and 60fps rates. From the front camera, recordings can be made with a resolution of up to 1080p at both 30fps and 60fps frame rates.
Smartphone Photo-Mode
Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G: Rear Camera Photo Mode
A noteworthy point that can be highlighted as a huge plus of its rear triple-camera system is that the quality of the zoom modes continues to stay put up to at least 5x, without any compromise in the clarity of the image. The range of the zoom itself is appreciably deep as we move up on the scale. In the standard Photo mode from the rear camera, the colours in the frame appear bright and full of contrast, appealing to the eyes. The colour range is also pretty wide. The Portrait mode does its job well and enhances the image quality even more. The fineness in clarity of the captures deserves an applause. In bright light, shots appear vivid. Even if the natural lighting in the environment is slightly low, the camera automatically brightens up the images and adjusts colour saturation accordingly.
Xiaomi 12 Pro Portrait-Mode
Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G: Portrait-Mode
The rear camera Pro mode lets you set the focus, ISO, lens, and a range of other factors according to your requirements. Tweaking these settings helps you capture the perfect image under any external conditions. The Night mode in the device is offered for both the front and the back cameras, and works up to the mark. In low light, from the rear camera, it increases the brightness of the colours in the frame to a great deal. Details are captured very well. The whites and blacks within the images are adjusted to good extents, based on the requirements of a particular colour shade. Overall, the shots appear quite captivating and attractive.
Photo-Mode Vs Night-Mode
Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G: Photo Mode Vs Night Mode
The colour scheme in the selfie camera frame is bright and pleasant. Under well-lit conditions, especially indoors, the shots have commendable clarity. The selfies slightly soften your skin tone to enhance your overall looks, but makes it appear natural at the same time. The AI mode of the rear camera recognises the in-frame conditions and adjusts the settings accordingly. For example, the element of greens within the images increases in case foliage is being captured.  Overall, the camera package offered with the Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G is astounding.  Read also: OnePlus Nord CE 2 Review: Super Stylish Design With Excellent Performance

Verdict

Xiaomi 12 Pro Geekbench 5 scores To sum up, the number of features that the all-new Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G offers, along with the quality, in its price range is admirable. It offers a sleek and elegant design with a pinch of glamour. The AMOLED display provides a delightful video streaming and gaming experience while its curvy edges add to your excitement. You get to enjoy the latest Android 12 OS features and the battery life of the smartphone is also commendable. Moreover, the quality of the camera package also speaks for itself.  The smartphone may need to tune up its sunlight legibility. The brand may also need to work on the issue of the heating of the device. But other than that, it is a wonderful choice to go for, although the price range might fall slightly on the higher side. Display Specifications for the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro have been leaked: Details inside

Google announced the launch of its most affordable Pixel 6A at its I/O 2022 tech event. Alongside the new device, the company also teased the design of both Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro which are scheduled to release later this year. Now the display specifications for Google’s forthcoming flagship smartphones have appeared online The smartphones are expected to have displays similar to the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, which were released last year. Google previewed its next-generation devices, revealing that they will be will feature the company’s next-generation Tensor SoC and will run on Android 13 out of the box. The display specifications for the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, were leaked online ahead of their release later this year. The upcoming smartphones will have the same Samsung panels as the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, according to code uncovered by 9to5Google in the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). The Pixel 7’s display driver is called Cheetah, while the Pixel 7 Pro’s display driver is designated Panther. According to the source, these files expose the characteristics of forthcoming devices. The Pixel 7 will have a full-HD+ display with 1,080×2,400 pixels of resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate, similar to the Pixel 6, according to the code, which indicates that Samsung’s S6E3FC3 panel will be used. The display is expected to be significantly shorter than the Pixel 6, with height and width reduced by 2mm and 1mm, respectively. According to Google’s driver code, the Pixel 7 Pro will feature the same QHD+ display with 1,440 x 3,120 pixels of resolution, and a 120Hz refresh rate as the Pixel 6 Pro, which was released last year. It is also said to use the same Samsung S6E3HC3 panel. The Pro variant, unlike the Pixel 7, will have the same screen as the previous model. The Pixel 7 Pro display drivers also hint that the top model may be able to display content in 1080p mode thanks to a recently discovered setting on Android 13. This may be utilised to allow Android to save power by rendering everything at 1080p and then converting it to 1440p using the panel’s “DDIC scaling.” While not as appealing to the eye, it’s likely that this is intended as an optional solution to save battery life, perhaps as part of Low Power Mode. Google’s forthcoming flagship smartphones, the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, were also teased at the Google I/O keynote event. The devices will be powered by Google’s Tensor SoC and will come preloaded with Android 13.0, according to the company. Snapchat announced Shared Stories, allowing users to engage with more Snapchatters

Snapchat, the popular photo-sharing app, has received a new upgrade. A new feature called Shared Stories has been released, which allows users to invite other Snapchatters into a group to a Shared Stories group to view and contribute to the story. The Snapchat Shared stories is an upgraded feature to Custom Stories that earlier allowed users to create a Story and add friends to view and contribute. Snapchat has introduced Shared Stories, a new option for users to form communities around the content they enjoy snapping. Shared Stories is a new version of Custom Stories, a Snapchat feature that previously allowed users to create a Story and invite friends to view and participate to it. With the new and enhanced Shared Stories, Snapchatters who have been added to a group may now invite their friends, making it easy for the entire soccer team, camp squad, or group of new coworkers to join. Snaps sent to Shared Stories, like all Snapchat Stories, expire after 24 hours. However, unlike standard friend Stories and Groups, this feature will not have a chat component in order to keep all talks between friends private. Content is monitored with care, utilising a combination of automatic language detection and new community review mechanisms that allow Snapchatters to actively participate in making Snaps in Shared Stories safe and enjoyable. Snapchat users will now be alerted if they join a Shared Story with someone they’ve blocked. This allows Snapchatters to exit a Shared Story and guarantees that they always have complete control over who they share content on the platform. “With this next generation Story, we’re hoping to help Snapchatters turn shared moments into shared memories. Have Snaps to share? Head to the profile page, tap new story, then select Shared Story to get started,” the company via blog post said.
