Samsung Galaxy M52 5G long-term review: A futuristic 5G smartphone

Hello there, readers. We’re back with another long-term review for you. We’ve been using the Samsung Galaxy M52 5G as our primary smartphone for quite some time now, and we’re finally ready to give you its full review.

Samsung Galaxy M52 5G review: Design and Display

The Samsung Galaxy M52 5G is the M51’s successor. This time, however, it has a different form factor and design. This phone is much thinner and lighter due to its smaller battery capacity. It is one of Samsung’s slimmest phones, weighing only 175 grams. However, if you’re used to a large smartphone, the device feels a little hollow. The phone is wider and taller than the one before it. Samsung Galaxy M52 5G long-term review: A futuristic 5G smartphone The back panel is the same and comes with old glossy plastic with vertical strips as before. Only the colours Blue and Black are available for this smartphone. The Galaxy M52 5G, on the other hand, has a fantastic display. It has a 6.7-inch full HD super AMOLED+ display with a resolution of 1,080 by 2,400 pixels. The screen has a 120Hz refresh rate, a 20:9 aspect ratio, and is protected by Gorilla Glass 5. Samsung Galaxy M52 5G long-term review: A futuristic 5G smartphone So far, we’ve found the screen to be bright and contains good contrast, with excellent white balance. Even when used outside, the display is very bright. Despite the fact that it has a 240Hz touch sampling rate, the touch responsiveness is satisfactory. Samsung’s UI has also been optimised for 120Hz, and we didn’t notice any major micro stutters or lags when switching from 120Hz to 60Hz or vice versa. The display is also protected by Gorilla Glass 5, but there is no in-display fingerprint sensor. Instead, there is a fingerprint sensor on the side that is quite fast and accurate. The headphone jack is also missing on the Galaxy M52 5G, which is surprising. Samsung Galaxy M52 5G pros and cons Aside from that, you don’t get stereo speakers, but the audio quality isn’t bad either, as it’s loud and detailed.

Samsung Galaxy M52 5G review: Performance and Cameras

Now we’ll look at the performance aspect of things. Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G SoC powers the Samsung Galaxy M52 5G. The 5G-capable phone comes in two RAM configurations: 6GB and 8GB, with 128GB of storage. Because it is a capable chipset, this phone should deliver excellent results. If you want apps to run in the background for a longer period of time, we recommend getting the 8GB version. The chipset is paired with the Adreno 642 GPU, which provides a good gaming experience, though it isn’t as powerful as the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 found on the OnePlus Nord 2. The processor is perfectly capable of handling light to medium workloads. We’ve only played Call of Duty: Mobile for about an hour, but we’re impressed with its gaming capabilities. Under extremely high graphics and frame rates, COD maintains a stable 60 frames per second. Heavy multitasking had a negative impact. Also, due to its slim form factor, the phone gets extremely hot, especially near the camera module. The Samsung Galaxy M52 5G supports 11 5G bands, according to the company: N1, N3, N5, N7, N8, N20, N28, N40, N41, N66, N78, which we think is a good thing. If you’re looking for a 5G phone that can keep up with the times, this could be a good choice. When it comes to cameras, the Samsung Galaxy M52 5G features a triple rear camera system with a 64-megapixel primary sensor. A 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens with f/2.2 aperture and a 5MP macro sensor round out the setup. The device will have a 32MP front-facing camera with an f/2.2 aperture for selfies and video calling.   review of Samsung Galaxy M52 5G The phone’s camera is of decent quality. Both primary and ultra-wide photographs have vibrant colours and great exposure. Similarly, when zoomed in, the portrait images have good skin tone and bokeh effect, but lacks details. It provides a nice skin tone when clicking self-portraits. In low-light situations, the phone was able to maintain better sharpness. On the flip side, the EIS has been turned off for videography. Videos with a resolution of 1080p@30fps are a bit shaky. While the videos recorded in 1080p at 60 frames per second and 4K at 30 frames per second come out as extremely shaky. So, not the best one out there for videos.

Samsung Galaxy M52 5G review: Conclusion

Finally, the Galaxy M52’s battery life is incredible. It provides enough endurance for a day’s worth of gaming, watching videos, and scrolling through social media feeds. Yes, you will only receive a 15W charger in the box. The performance of the Samsung Galaxy M52 5G is comparable to that of the more expensive Galaxy devices. It certainly appears to be a better deal. However, given what the phone actually offers, the company is charging a bit more.

Samsung Galaxy M52 5G pros and cons

Pros
  • A higher refresh rate display
  • Good cameras
Cons
  • Lacks IP67 rating
  • No OIS

Playfit Slim review: For the fitness freak in you

24 sports modes. Yes, Playfit Slim smartwatch actually comes with that many sports modes. It is one of the most talked-about things of this smart device, besides its battery that is claimed to last 7 days and an affordable price of Rs 3,999. But how much of all this is real? Let’s find out in our Playfit Slim smartwatch review.

Playfit Slim review: Design

The look and feel of the Playfit Slim smartwatch is elegant and premium in spite of its pricing. The dial of the smartwatch is made of aluminium and it has a solid build. The device is available in Galaxy Black and Mystic Blue colours, and the one that we got for review was dressed in Black. The dial of the Playfit Slim watch is dominated by the 1.28-inch round IPS LCD display that is surrounded by thin bezels and has a 2.5D cover plastic.  While the plastic helps in case the smartwatch drops, it is prone to getting fingerprints. Speaking about the display of the device, it has a decent level of brightness and clarity, and sunlight readability was good too. We didn’t face a problem using the smartwatch outside our house. Playfit Slim image 2 The watch has silicone straps that were mostly comfortable to wear and didn’t cause any irritation to the skin. Coming back to the dial, on its right side, the Home button of the smartwatch is placed that can be used as the Power button, to wake up the watch, to go back to the previous screen and obviously, to go back to Home from any given function. On the back of the dial, the heart rate sensor and the charging slot are placed.  Playfit Slim review Overall, we can say that although the Playfit Slim cannot be called a stunner, it does have a good design and it looks tasteful. It was too big for our wrist, but when we asked someone with a broader wrist to try it on, it didn’t look out of place. You would easily be able to wear the smartwatch to your work meetings as well as to a casual party.

Playfit Slim review: Performance

Now, let’s shed some light on the performance of the Playfit Slim smartwatch. The device runs RTOS or real-time OS, which is basically a lighter, trimmed down version of the regular software. Several other smartwatches that fall under the same price range also run the same operating system. Playfit Slim has a number of functions that it can perform including tracking steps and sleep, measuring heart rate and blood-oxygen levels, and it comes with 24 sports modes.  The last one is easily one among its USPs, since there is array of sports that it helps in tracking including Outdoor Running, Swimming, Cycling, Table Tennis, Skipping, Badminton, Tennis, Walking, Climbing, Basketball, Football, Baseball, Volleyball, Cricket, Rugby, Hockey, Spinning, Dance, Gymnastics, Jumping Jacks, Boating, Sit-Up, Yoga, and Indoor Running. For connectivity, the smartwatch supports Bluetooth 5.0.  Playfit Slim image To connect the smartwatch to your smartphone, you will first have to download the PlayFit app from Google‘s Play Store or iOS App Store, and then follow a few mentioned steps. We had no trouble setting up the watch and anyone who’s even slightly digital savvy would be able to do it without any help. As with all other smartwatches, you need to have your smartphone’s Bluetooth on at all times. Once you do this, you would be able to see all the menus on the smartwatch and the app will show you your stats too. One has the option of picking from several watch faces to customise the watch according to themselves.  The step tracking of the device seemed to be accurate at most times, unless we were driving, then it obviously got confused with the movement. But we don’t really count that as a con, as most other smartwatches have the same problem.  The sleep tracking and the heart rate tracking seemed accurate as well, but there were times when they didn’t show up on the app. We tried to measure our Blood-oxygen level too, and firstly we should mention that it would only happen if you would put an Oxymeter on your ring finger, or press the top of the same finger hard for a few seconds. But the good thing is, that result always matched the one on the Oxymeter, which is definitely a plus.  We also tried using the various sports modes on Playfit Slim, and we were impressed by the consistency with which it tracked our activity. If you are into sports or are a fitness freak, this smartwatch is definitely for you. One, it offers to track so many sports, and secondly, it does it well.  Last but not the least, the battery level of the smartwatch, which was touted by the company to be of 7 days, actually lasts. Although we didn’t use it for a whole 7 days, we noticed that even after 5 days of our usage, only 50% of the juice was gone. So it could have easily lasted us 7 days.  Pros
  • Solid build and good design
  • Lasting battery
Cons
  • Could be more feature-rich
  • Sleep and heart rate data doesn’t reflect in the app at times

Verdict

Although there are a number of smartwatches available in the budget segment, Playfit Slim is for those who are big time into sports and fitness but don’t want to spend a lot on their device. It has a solid build, an average display, and it comes with 24 sports modes and a lasting battery. At a price of Rs 3,999, it is a good buy. However, you must also check out Amazefit in the same price segment because that was a notch up in terms of performance, yet is priced around this one.
