Let’s face it there is a gamer in all of us. Some of us play casually on our mobile phones or gaming consoles over the weekend, but some take it very seriously and play games competitively. The Biggest E-sports event is taking place right now and the game being played is one of the most widely played strategy fixture called DOTA 2.

For those who do not know about Defence Of The Ancients or DOTA, it was a map mod in the popular Warcraft 3 game by Blizzard. Then the maker of the map ‘Icefrog’ joined hands with Valve to make DOTA 2. Long story short, together they are making millions each year off this game. Valve has a yearly tournament in the form of The International, which started 5 years ago.

So how do they make money from this tournament?

Gamers can buy a special compendium, which grants them special in game items, music packs, announcers and more. Each item opens up at a stretch goal when the prize money reaches certain level. Valve was expecting about 15 Million USD as the final prize money, but it surpassed all expectations and went to 18 Million USD.  Valve sells each compendium for about 9.99 USD, of which 25% goes to the tournament’s prize money. The Prize of the tournament is now over a whooping 18 Million USD’s. So by our calculations by just selling compendiums and the level points of the compendium, Valve has made over 52 Million USD.

This is the biggest prize money being given out ever. Much of it crowd funded. The gamers and viewers from around the world are basically sponsoring this E-sports tournament being held in Seattle, USA. Valve is rolling in money with this free game as thousands buy in game items every day.

It seems that the smartphone manufacturer Sony is leaving no stone upturned in order to lure its customers. The manufacturer has expanded its M series with its latest offering Xperia M5. The smartphone runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system and will be available in both single and dual SIM variants. The device flaunts a 5-inch full HD with 1920×1080 pixels resolution and Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2.

Powering the Sony XPERIA M5 is a 2.2 GHz MediaTek Helio X10 (MT6795T) Octa-Core 64-bit processor coupled with 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded further up to 200GB with the help of the microSD card. The device sports a 21.5-megapixel rear shooter with LED flash and a 13.0-megapixel front facing camera for video calling. This 4G enabled smartphone from the house of Sony also comes with water and dust protection.

The connectivity attributes of the device include 4G, LTE, 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC and houses a 2,600 mAh battery. The smartphone will be available in Gold, Black and White colour options, however the company has not yet revealed the pricing details of the device.

The Japanese smartphone manufacturer Sony has introduced the latest selfie smartphone of the company called as Xperia C5 Ultra. The smartphone features a 6-inch full HD display with 1920×1080 pixels resolution and Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2. The smartphone runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system and comes in both single and dual SIM variants.

The Sony Xperia C5 Ultra is powered by a 1.7 GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6752 processor paired with 2GB of RAM. The internal storage of the device accounts to 16GB which can be expanded up to 200GB with the help of microSD card. The smartphone flaunts a 13.0-megapixel with wide angle lens and selfie flash both at the rear and front end.

On the connectivity front the Sony Xperia C5 Ultra include, 4G, LTE, 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC and houses a 2,930 mAh battery. Lava, the Indian smartphone manufacturer has contributed to the budget Android smartphone sphere with their new mobile called Lava Iris X1. This smartphone comes in three colour variations, which consist of Royal Black, Icy White and Purple.

Speaking on the launch of the Iris X1 Selfie, Navin Chawla, Senior Vice President of Lava said, “We realize that there is a need for such devices and with our R&D efforts this offering has a perfect combination of hardware and software driven front camera capabilities.”

On the specification front, the Lava Iris X1 flaunts a 4.5-inch FWVGA display. The device comes with dual SIM functionality and runs an Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system. Powering the smartphone is a Quad-Core 1.3GHz processor coupled with 1GB of RAM. The on-board storage of the smartphone accounts to 8GB that can be expanded further via microSD card up to 32GB.

The device features an 8.0-megapixel rear camera with LED flash. Users can record videos in HD with it. Over that, the camera features photo timer and HDR mode too. Accompanying the rear camera is the 5.0-megapixel front-facing camera with LED flash. The smartphone offers 3G, Wi-Fi, USB 2.0, GPS and Bluetooth as connectivity options and it packs a 2,000 mAh battery.

The company has priced the new Lava Iris X1 at Rs 6,777 and will be available for both online and offline consumers from early next week.

Samsung, the South Korean tech giant will soon launch its latest smartwatch called the Gear A. This smartwatch has been codenamed Orbis. The company is expected to launch this smartwatch alongside the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus smartphone on 13 August at a global event.

Some reports state that the Gear A smartwatch will have round and rotatable bezel. This rotating circular dial will be used to navigate the interface easier, zoom in and zoom out the photos. The watch will feature a round display with a 360×360 pixel resolution. A few more specifications have surfaced, which show that the new device will have 4GB of internal memory.

Gear A is expected to run on Tizen 2.3.1 operating system. The smartwatch will be powered by an Exynos 3472 Dual-Core processor coupled with 768GB of RAM. The connectivity options include Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi, 2G and GPS along with the barometer sensor and a heart rate sensor. It would house a 250 mAh battery.

This smartwatch by Samsung does seem like a treat for Samsung fan boys. However, the company is tight lipped on its launch and specifications.

Samsung, the South Korean smartphone maker will soon launch its latest smartphone called the Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo. This news has been spotted on the Web by a Dutch e-commerce website Belsimpel. They reported that this smartphone will be available by the end of the next month globally and in India.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo will feature a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED Full HD display, with Corning Gorilla Glass for protection. The smartphone will be powered by an Octa-Core Exynos processor and 2GB of RAM.

A few more specifications have surfaced which show that the new device will run on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. The device will have 16GB onboard storage, which can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD card. On the camera front, the smartphone sports a 16MP rear camera with autofocus and LED flash along with a 5MP front camera. The connectivity options include LTE Cat6, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, microUSB 2.0, GPS with AGPS and NFC. The Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo houses a 2,800mAh battery.

Some reports also point out that the Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo will measure 142×72.5×8.1mm and would weigh 145 grams. It is expected to be available in black, gold, silver and white options. And the price for this smartphone will be approximately Rs 33,000. But, there is no official word from the company yet.

The company has priced the Gionee Pioneer P2M very aggressively at Rs 6,999. The new Gionee smartphone will be available in India for both online and offline consumers. But, with am array of smartphones already available at this price point, the road for Gionee does not look that smooth as before.

Soon ASUS will be launching three of its latest smartphones at the ZenFestival, which is going to take place on August 6 in India. The three new smartphones are the ZenFone 2 Deluxe, ZenFone Selfie and the ZenFone Laser.

Peter Chang, Managing Director, ASUS said, “We are serious about the Indian market which is growing tougher day by day and that is why we want to do something different. We will showcase more products and share their prices at the Zen Festival. He also announced that some major changes are made to the Zen user interface to make the phone’s battery last longer and provide a lag-free experience for users.”

The ZenFone 2 Deluxe will feature a 5.5-inch full HD display. It will be powered by a 64-bit class based Quad-Core 2.3GHz Intel Atom processor Z3580 with PowerVR G6430 GPU coupled with 4GB of RAM. This smartphone will run on Android 5.0 Lollipop with ZenUI. ZenFone 2 Deluxe is expected to have 64GB of internal storage, which can further be expanded via a microSD card. The Asus ZenFone Selfi sports twin 13 MP cameras located at the back and front, which come with dual LED flash. It will also feature dual-SIM card slots, 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi, GPS, USB and Bluetooth as connectivity options. The ZenFone Selfie would house a 3,000 mAh battery.

Presently the users of Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 can now upgrade to the new Windows 10 with ease. The company has started its reservation system earlier and is now in the phase of rolling out the updates.

Speaking at the launch, Vineet Durani, Director, Windows Business Group, Microsoft India said, “We are entering a new era of Windows. For the first time, we built Windows 10 alongside our customers – the feedback of more than 5 million Windows Insiders helped shape Windows 10. The response from Insiders in India has been overwhelming as well and we are excited to bring Windows 10 to India. InFocus will soon be launching its new 2-in-1 Hybrid Tablet in India

Apart from the frequent smartphone announcements, InFocus have also announced a new 2-in-1 tablet. The company has not given any name of the tablet yet. But, InFocus will be launching the tablet later this year in India.

The tablet has a 10.1-inch Full HD capacitive touchscreen display. This device is powered by a Quad-core Intel Atom processor, which is clocks at 1.11GHz and supports hyper-threading up to 1.83GHz. It comes packed with 2GB DDR3 RAM. Over that, the InFocus 2-in-1 Hybrid tablet also has 32GB internal memory.

The InFocus 2-in-1 tablet has a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel secondary front facing camera. The device is 8.8 mm thick and weighs around 550 grams (including the battery). This tablet houses an 8,000 mAh battery, which is non-removable. It also comes with an attachable keyboard cover, hence it is a hybrid machine.

It has been spotted running Windows OS. So it may come with dual boot functionality booting Android OS alongside Windows OS or just plain Windows. But, there is no confirmation yet about the OS of the tablet yet. We will confirm what it will be running exactly as soon as we get more information about it.

The price and availability of this tablet will be known in coming days.

Intex, one of the Indian brands known for smartphones and computer peripherals, is looking to make a mark in the Indian LED TV segment. They have just launched their latest 40-inch full HD LED TV in India. The company claims that this TV is bigger and better than its predecessors and boasts of a flat panel display with full HD resolution.

The Intex LED TV is equipped with different interfaces such as HDMI, AV in and AV out, USB, VGA, TV (RF input).

Miromax, the domestic smartphone maker has yet again launched a new budget Android smartphone called Canvas Xpress 2 in India. This smartphone is available in Black colour option.

On the specification front, the Micromax canvas Xpress 2 flaunts a 5-inch HD IPS display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection. The device comes with dual SIM functionality and runs an Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system, which is upgradeable to Android 5.0 Lollipop. Powering the smartphone is an Octa-Core 1.4GHz processor coupled with 1GB of RAM. All this runs on MediaTek MT6592M chipset. For graphics a Mali-450 GPU is also in-built.

The on-board storage of the smartphone accounts to 8GB that can be expanded further via microSD card up to 32GB. The device features a 13-megapixel rear camera with dual-LED flash and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. Both, rear and front facing cameras have OmniVision sensors. This smartphone offers 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth as connectivity options. The device houses a 2,500 mAh battery to keep it alive.

The company has priced the Micromax Canvas Xpress 2 at Rs 5,999 and it is exclusively on Flipkart, as far as online sales are concerned. It will be available through flash sale, which is expected to take place on August 4 at 2PM. The registrations for the sale have already begun. And the first flash sale will end on August 3 at midnight. The phone will also be available on offline stores.

Panasonic has expanded its product portfolio with the launch of Panasonic Love T10. This is the latest headset from the Panasonic “Love” series, which comes with access to 21 Indian regional languages.

The smartphone runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system.

Yureka brand by the Indian handset maker Micromax is trying to bring good smartphones to India. They have recently launched the new Yu Yureka Plus. This is the third phone from the Yu brand. This smartphone comes in two colour variations, which consist of Alabaster white and Moodust gray.

On the specification front, the Yu Yureka Plus sports a 5.5-inch full HD touchscreen display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The device comes with dual SIM configuration that supports 4G SIM cards. This smartphone features the latest Cyanogen 12 operating system based on the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop. The Indian smartphone manufacturer Lava has finally launched its much touted Android One smartphone dubbed as Pixel V1 in India. The company has priced the device for Rs 11,350 and it will be exclusively available via Flipkart from today. Howvere, the company also revealed that the smartphone also make its way to the retail stores with time.

On the specification front, the Lava Pixel V1 features a 5.5-inch full Lamination IPS display protected by Dragontrail glass on top. The smartphone runs on the latest Android version 5.1.1 Lollipop and will further get updated till next two Android versions. Powering the device is a 1.3 GHz Quad-Core MediaTek MT6582 processor paired with 2GB of RAM. The internal storage of the device stands at 32GB which can be expanded up to32GB via microSD card.

The smartphone flaunts an 8.0-megapixel rear camera with LED flash which can be enhanced up to 13.0-megapixel and a 5.0-megapixel front facing camera which can be enhanced up to 8.0-megapixel. Sony, the Japanese giant smartphone manufacturer will soon be launching its latest flagships in the form of two great smartphones, which are Sony Xperia S60 and S70 around the world and in India. The new Sony flagships are said to launch at the IFA in September this year.

Some fresh reports say that the Xperia S60 and Xperia S70 are actually the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact. However, the report by WinFuture (German website) did not provide any details about the specifications of the upcoming Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact models. But, they claimed that both the handsets would offer 32GB of internal memory.

Other reports say that the Sony Xperia S60 or Xperia Z5 will be available in black, white, yellow and coralie colour options. The smartphones will be powered by a Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chipset coupled with 4GB RAM. The Xperia Z5 smartphone will come with 32GB memory. The device will also have a massive 4,500 mAh battery.

Moving on to the next device, the Sony Xperia S70 or Xperia Z5 Compact will come in black, white, green, and gold colour variants. This smartphone will also have 32GB memory. Both the Sony smartphones are likely to be priced higher in comparison to the handsets in the current Xperia lineup, as both are reported to be high-end smartphones.

Xiaomi, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer has finally slashed the price of Mi 4 in India. They have recently dropped the price of the 64GB variant of the Mi 4 in India to Rs 17,999. The original price for this one was Rs 23,999. Xiaomi India tweeted that it has permanently slash the price of 64GB Mi 4 since its fans “love it (the offer) so much.”

The Xiaomi Mi 4 is available in white and black colours. The mobile phone features a 5-inch full-HD display. This display comes with JDI OGS full lamination too. Samsung is continously launching great tablets this year. They had launched the Samsung Galaxy Tab A barely a month ago and now they have just launched  its  successor Samsung Galaxy Tab A Plus.

The Galaxy Tab A Plus features a 9.7-inch display. On the specification front, the tablet has a 1.2GHz Quad-Core processor paired with 2GB RAM. This  tablet also comes with the S pen. This S pen can be used for calligraphy among other things. The inbuilt storage of the device accounts to 16GB, which can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD card

The tablet has a 5-megapixel rear camera with autofocus. There is also a 2-megapixel camera at the front of the tablet. The Galaxy Tab A Plus will offer Bluetooth, Micro-USB and Wi-Fi for connectivity. The battery size of the device is said to be 6,000 mAh (approx), but the exact details of the battery life is still unknown.

Motorola is expected to launch third generation of Moto G smartphone this week in India

Motorola, the American smartphone manufacturer is likely to launch the third generation of Moto G on July 28 in India. The company has already sent out invites for a ‘launch event’.

The Moto G third gen will feature a 5-inch IPS display. The smartphone will be powered by a 1.2 GHz Quad-Core processor combined with 1GB of RAM, all this on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset. The on-board storage of the smartphone will lie at 16GB that can be expanded further via a microSD card up to 32GB. Moto G third gen will also feature 4G network compatibility.

Earlier, e-commerce major Flipkart had reportedly leaked the specifications of the upcoming Motorola’s smartphone Moto G (Third-Generation) with 8GB internal storage. However, Flipkart has deleted the link now.

Microsoft will launch its top-most smartphones Lumia 950 and 950 XL soon

Microsoft has been bringing some great smartphone every now and then. And soon they will be launching their latest flagships in the form of Lumia 950 and 950 XL around the world and in India. The new Lumia flagships are said to launch at the IFA in this September.

Some reports say these phones have been codenamed Talkman and Cityman, respectively. The Lumia 950 or Talkman will feature a 5.2-inch display with 2,560 x 1,440 pixel resolution. The smartphone will be powered by a Hexa-Core Snapdragon 808 processor coupled with 3GB RAM.

A few more specifications have surfaced, which show that the new device will feature a 20-megpixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. This smartphone will come with 32GB memory. The device will also have a 3,000 mAh battery to keep it alive for a day.

Moving on to the next device, the Lumia 950 XL or Cityman will feature a 5.7-inch display. A set of specification like the Lumia 950 is predicted to come in this smartphone. However, this mobile phone will be powered by an Octa-Core Snapdragon 810 processor. Lumia 950 XL would also house a more powerful 3,300 mAh battery.

Both smartphones will support Qi wireless charging. There is also an infrared scanner that will unlock the device in seconds. The smartphones will also feature USB Type-C. These devices are expected to come in Matte white or black polycarbonate. The Microsoft Lumia 950 and 950 XL would be one of the most anticipated launches at IFA 2015.
