Oppo exhibits its next-generation under-screen camera (USC) technology

Chinese smartphone brand Oppo today introduced next-generation under-screen camera (USC) technology for smartphones. The new under-screen camera solution is said to be a  perfect balance between screen and camera quality with the combination of the best hardware innovation and OPPO’s proprietary AI algorithms. The new USC maintains the integrity and consistency of the entire screen, both during use and while on standby. Recently, we have seen ZTE introduce the Axon 30 smartphone featuring an under-display selfie camera. A prototype device featuring OPPO’s next-generation under-screen camera in 2019 had a highly transparent screen over the selfie camera lens. But that was never released in the market but now the firm has introduced next-generation under-screen camera (USC) technology, which is the perfect balance between display and image quality. next-generation under-screen camera (USC) technology During the development phase, the key challenge which the company came across was that the regular OLED panels are not transparent, in order for the under-screen camera to function, the pixel geometry and drive circuits corresponding to the display area directly above the camera sensor have to be redesigned to enhance light transmittance. Secondly, the display area above the camera was modified to increase transparency to ensure that the OLED display still delivers a level of quality consistent with the rest of the display. Oppo said that it has developed a proprietary display control algorithm to effectively manage the brightness and colour difference so that the display area above the camera functions as well as the rest of the display. The next challenge was the under-screen camera image optimization so it has developed its own AI algorithms for anti-diffraction, AWB, and HDR to boost image quality captured using the USC with limited incoming light. Oppo has also trained its AI diffraction reduction model using tens of thousands of images to control problems caused by diffraction at the light source, allowing users to capture clearer, more natural-looking images. next-generation under-screen camera (USC) technology For a consistent display quality, Oppo shrank the size of each pixel without decreasing the number of pixels to ensure a 400-PPI high-quality display even in the camera area. Also, it has given traditional screen wiring a transparent makeover. High-precision manufacturing engineering and a refined design have also reduced the width of the wiring by 50%, creating a smoother visual experience.  According to Oppo, the current industry standard in under-screen camera technology is for the 1-pixel circuit to drive 2 pixels (“1-to-2”) in the screen area above the camera, but this results in significantly poorer display quality for images and text. So the latest technology that the company has introduced uses its proprietary screen technology where each pixel circuit drives only 1 pixel (“1-to-1”), the chromaticity and brightness of the entire screen can be precisely controlled with a deviation of about 2%. For reading e-books, browsing the news, or navigating with maps the under-screen camera technology lets the accurate display of smaller fonts and better preservation and representation of textural details and colours.  For the latest gadget and tech news, and gadget reviews, follow us on TwitterFacebook and Instagram. For newest tech & gadget videos subscribe to our YouTube Channel. Lenovo Legion 5 laptop review: For work and play

When it comes to gaming laptops, they come in various shapes and sizes. They are by far the flashiest piece of devices out there. However, this time Lenovo has taken up a very different approach with the Lenovo Legion 5. What you get is a mix of IBM ThinkPad-like looks with gaming level machinery inside. We played around with the device for some time, and this is Lenovo Legion 5 laptop review. Lenovo Legion 5: Design and Display We were a little taken aback when we unboxed this device. The Lenovo Legion 5 is not the usual run of the mill flashy gaming laptop, as said. But it has a very subtle nice design to it. Somewhat similar to the ThinkPad notebooks. Well by the looks of it the laptop is built for both work and play routines. In the day you can work on it and in the evening you can game. Dressed in charcoal black, the device will not turn heads but it has some nice curves that should get it some attention. The Legion logo (with VIGBYOR effect) and Lenovo branding can be seen on top of the LID. Open it and you are greeted with a large 15.6-inch nonglossy display. The display supports FHD graphics, 144Hz refresh rate and less than 3MS response time. It is also Dolby Vision-enabled and the peak brightness is set at 300nits, which we felt could have been better for gaming, but is fine for day to day use. The keyboard on the Lenovo Legion 5 is backlit and is fairly large. The keys are good and respond well. Also, it has a NUM pad, so that is good. The power button is located above the keyboard and a decent size trackpad is placed below it. It does not come in the way when you are typing. Most of the ports are placed behind the machine. The only exceptions are the two USB 3.1 and the audio ports that can be seen on the right and the left. An Ethernet, 2 more USB 3.1, HDMI, power and USB Type-C ports can be seen on the backside of the machine along with the fan gills. The Lenovo Legion 5 also comes with an HD webcam, which is placed above the screen. This comes with a privacy shutter and that is an A+ in our books. We played a lot of games on this laptop ranging from DOTA 2 to CS: Go to PUBG PC. The first two ran well, however, PUBG could only be played at medium settings and we did see few frame drops in the game. On the other hand, we quite liked watching YouTube videos and Netflix shows on the Lenovo Legion 5. Overall, the display experience was not the best but is darn good. Lenovo Legion 5: Performance Let’s quickly talk about the tech specs of the Lenovo Legion 5 laptop we are reviewing. This machine comes with AMD Ryzen 5 4600H series 3GHz CPU, which has 6 cores. So, it did make us feel at times, that we could have had better performance with 2 extra cores if it was an octa-core CPU. RAM is just 8GB, but one can upgrade it, so that is good. Over that, the gaming notebook comes with SSD and HDD combo. Users Get 256GB SSD and a 1TB HDD inside. So storage is not much of an issue. The graphics are powered by NVIDIA GTX 1,650 Ti graphic card. There is an option to upgrade to NVIDIA 2060, but for that, you would need to shell out more money. 2 into 2W Harman Kardon speakers are also there on the machine, which do a decent job. They are not super loud so for gaming, we do recommend you use your gaming headphones. When working, the laptop does not get warm at all. It is quiet as a cat. But when you turn the cat into a tiger and enter the gaming mode, the fans are capable to make quite a racket. But that is because they are working overtime to keep the machine cool. And they do a good job. Yes, like all gaming notebooks the Lenovo Legion 5 also gets hot when gaming, but it cools down as quickly too. We always played games in a room with the AC on, so we did not feel it ever getting too hot. The Lenovo Legion 5 comes with an 80Wh battery, which is claimed to last for 8 hours. But for us it lasted for under 6 hours, when not gaming. When gaming it drops down even further. Nonetheless, for the best gaming experience, you have to keep the charger connected, as then is when you get the best graphics and gaming performance. Verdict Lenovo Legion 5 comes with Windows 10 home, which we have been asking all the companies not to give in a gaming machine. The pro version is what everyone wants here, however that is not a deal-breaker. There is a bit of bloatware found on the machine, which can be uninstalled if the users want to. The price tag of Rs 81,999+ is what will get you this machine from places like Reliance Digital. Well, that is the only thing that left us with a mixed bag of feelings. While we absolutely loved the game plus work features of the machine, we did feel the price can be lower. As the competition is giving better specs and features in this price range. All in all, a good machine for professionals, graphic designers, video editors, gamers and more, if you can look past the price. Pro Good display Webcam privacy shutter Good keyboard Cons Some might find the looks a bit plain Price Speakers could have been louder For the latest gadget and tech news, and gadget reviews, follow us on TwitterFacebook and Instagram. For newest tech & gadget videos subscribe to our YouTube Channel. How To Enjoy Online Gaming on Your Smartphone

Few people would argue with the statement that the gaming world is in a healthy position right now. Mobile gaming on devices like smartphones and tablets appears to be doing particularly well, as players can access a range of new experiences at a time that suits them. However, it is not just video gaming that has been successfully adapted into the mobile domain, as more traditional activities have made the jump too. One of the most notable examples of this trend is undoubtedly online casino gaming. Mobile-friendly Services

Online casinos have been thriving for years and there are now a host of brands competing in the space to attract players to their services. Such sites tend to feature a wide range of games, from online slots to live casino titles based around streaming technology. However, in more recent times, many have also made a particular effort to ensure their services are mobile-friendly. Some have done this by creating an app, while others have simply ensured that their games and site are mobile-optimized, as not all customers are willing or have the space to download things. But, if you want to take your first steps into exploring this area, what is the best way to play mobile casino titles? It can be beneficial to choose a casino that specializes in mobile gaming, such as Genesis Casino, as this ensures that you’ll have access to games on the go without needing to download anything. Additionally, it’s important to make sure that the app or site has excellent customer service and FAQs in case support is required. More to Consider

However, there is often more to playing online casino games than just opening an account at a website. For instance, many different deals tend to be available, with a common one being the welcome bonus. With that in mind, it is well worth seeing what you could take advantage of. Another thing to think about is payment methods. Deposit methods can include traditional options like debit cards, as well as more modern services such as Neteller, Skrill, and PayPal. The latter has become hugely popular in recent years and, according to PYMNTs.com, it is thought to have around 377 million active accounts.

Big Impact

While some people might still associate casino gaming with the offline experience, it is fair to say that the concept is now thriving in the online space, especially in India. Not only that, but it is having a big impact on mobile devices as well. Hopefully, the information above has given you some basic pointers on what to expect when you start to explore this world. Whether you are playing on a smartphone or tablet, you are sure to find plenty to enjoy.
