ASUS ROG launches Strix G and Strix Scar gaming laptops in India

In order to continue the legacy of dominating the India market as the No.1 Gaming Laptop brand, the ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) has announced the launch of its Strix G15/G17 (G512/G712) and Strix Scar 15/17 (G532/G732) gaming laptops with 10th Gen Intel Core i7 H-Series processors. These laptops are equipped with custom intelligent cooling solutions, thoughtfully-designed backlit chiclet keyboard, Triple SSD storage solution, Faster RAM, WiFi 6, and NanoEdge display.

The 15-inch and 17-inch Strix G and Strix Scar laptops boast up to a powerful 300Hz high refresh rate with 3ms response time for a smooth gaming experience. With DDR4 3200 MHz RAM and configurable with up to  NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER GPU, the Strix series features ultrafast WiFi 6 networking for lower latency and less lag on compatible networks, two NVMe PCIe 3.0 SSDs running in RAID 0 for warp-speed load times, and a third upgradable SSD slot that lets users have additional terabytes of space.

In collaboration with the BMW Design Works Group, ROG has introduced flowing ridges to the laptop that guide your eyes towards the thermal area, materializing favourable thermal performance along with the wraparound light bar, further bolstered with Aura Sync.

In addition to its stunning design and powerful engine, the Strix series delights with its three different color schemes that emphasize personal style beautifully. Apart from the elegant Glacier Blue and Original Black, the Strix G Electro Punk is the showstopper of the lot. The striking contrast between its dark brushed look and feel and sizzling pink highlights is complemented by a range of peripherals.

The Strix G15/G17 and Strix Scar 15/17   boasts the latest innovation – a liquid metal compound from Thermal Grizzly that reduces the CPU temperature by up to 12-degrees and provides 35% slow down when temperature increases so the laptop can reach and sustain its highest operating frequency.

The latest Strix series come with desktop-style keyboard layout with identifiable gaps between function keys, isolated arrow keys, and an extended space bar makes for precision on your fingertips and fewer misses amid a time-sensitive showdown.

Taking keyboard convenience and style one step further, the ROG Strix G15 model comes with 5 isolated hotkeys, a rollover N-key, and highlighted WASD keys. With 2.0 mm travel distance, 20 million key-press lifetimes, 0.25 mm keycap curve, and AURA Sync which lets you sync and customize light effects with gaming-mice, headset, and other peripherals.

The Strix Scar series also offers the new Keystone II which when attached to the computer, can instantly boost performance and also grant access to an internal “shadow drive.” These gaming laptops also offer three NVMe slots, two of which can be configured in RAID 0 for storage of up to 1TB and the third slot is there just for expansion.

As far as price and availability are concerned, the Strix G15 (G512) is available for Rs 79,990 (GPU: GTX1650Ti) on Flipkart. On the other hand, the Strix G17 (G712) comes with a price tag of Rs 1,04,990 (GPU: GTX1660Ti) will be available on Amazon India starting 3rd week of August. Moreover, the Strix Scar 15 (G532) will be offered for Rs 1,44,990 (GPU: RTX2060) from 3rd week of September in only offline channels/ AES & ROG stores. Lastly, the Strix Scar 17 (G732) will be made available from September onwards.

It’s been a year since we are hearing that soon multiple devices support will be introduced to WhatsApp. There have been many reports on this to prove that the company is testing the functionality on its platform as sometimes it is not easy to handle multiple accounts at the same time on multiple devices. The news is rife that the company is going to allow the users to sync their chat history across platforms when WhatsApp multiple device support is released.

The ability to use a single account across various devices at the same time is currently in the pipeline. The company is still working on this feature. According to a report by WABetaInfo the chatting app is also working to sync the chat history of a user across platforms. The company is testing this functionality in order to work with 4 devices at the same time. The publisher has also shared a couple of screenshots to prove that this feature is under development. The screenshots suggest that the company is working on to create an on the Android app and on WhatsApp for iOS to support up to 4 devices at the same time.

WABetaInfo reports that “When the user wants to use WhatsApp on a second device, there is the need to copy the chat history. In this case, WhatsApp always requires a Wi-Fi connection, because it may use a large amount of your data plan.”

According to the report when the user connects to the Wi-Fi network, it’s possible to begin the login process. To test this functionality the company has used WhatsApp Desktop, but this will also work on a second mobile device. For this, the app will allow mobile devices to be connected to your main device later than WhatsApp Desktop. “Note that using this feature, an Internet connection on your device will no longer be needed to use WhatsApp Desktop,” the report added.

In addition to this one needs to safely copy their chat history to the second device. In order to keep all the messages synced across platforms all the messages will be delivered to all the devices however the encryption key changes every time when you choose to use or remove a device. All your active devices will be notified when your encryption key is changed.

Also, the company has also developed an iPad app separately which is set for release when this feature is rolled out so the user will be able to use WhatsApp on your iPhone and their iPad at the same time.

The report further notes that this feature for the Android and iOS users has not been confirmed yet. Previously the chatting app was also spotted working to convert the iOS database to the one compatible with the Android format. Though these features are still under development that means the company is still working on its and will be released in a future update.

Infinix Hot 10 smartphone likely to come in two variants

With reports revealing that Infinix is prepping up to launch its Hot 10 smartphone, now the news is rife that the device is likely to come in two variants. According to Certipedia, certificate number JPTUV-111264 has a certified mobile phone under model numbers X682C and X682B model numbers.

This certificate for Infinix Hot 10 was issued by one of TÜV Rheinland’s four National Certification Bodies (NCBs) on July 16th, 2020. According to GSMArena, The Google Play Console entry for Infinix Hot 10 reveals a render of this device that appears to be in line with the already available Infinix Hot 9. Mind you! The render showcase only the rear side of the Infinix Hot 10 smartphone.

The Google Play Console entry for Infinix Hot 10 further notifies that Infinix Hot 10 will be powered by the MediaTek Helio G70 chipset along with Android 10. The handset has a screen resolution of 720 x 1640 pixels along with 4GB of RAM and an HD+ panel.

On the battery front, a TUV Rheinland certification has revealed that the X682C and X682B model numbers will house a 5,100mAh battery. However, no camera details were provided as of now.

Last month, Infinix has launched the Smart 4 Plus in India. The newly-launched smartphone is the first in the sub 8k segment to come with a 6000mAh battery capacity. Available for Rs 7999, this handset comes in three colours- Ocean Wave, Violet and Midnight Black.

The South Korean smartphone company (Samsung) is set to unveil its just-launched Galaxy Note 20 series in India. The launch event is scheduled for August 28 in the country. However, the company has not itself confirmed, but an Amazon listing has revealed the release date. The Company on August 5 hosted Galaxy Unpacked 2020 virtual event where it revealed a couple of new products alongside Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G. A day after the launch the company opened the pre-bookings for both the devices in the country. Read on to know more about the device.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series launch date and price details in India

Samsung last week kicked off pre-orders for its latest flagship devices in the country soon after the global launch. The price for the Note 20 has been set at Rs 77,999, while the Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G will be available for Rs 1,04,999. Both the device is now available for pre-bookings through the Samsung.com site and various offline retail stores.

But now both the smartphones have also been listed on the Amazon India website for pre-bookings. According to the listing, the devices are scheduled for a release in the country on August 28.  In addition to this, the device is also available on Flipkart also. As for the launch offers, Galaxy Note 20 buyers can get a cashback of Rs 6,000 while the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G buyers are eligible to get a cashback of up to Rs 6,000. In addition to this those looking to upgrade their old Samsung devices can avail of an extra discount of Rs 5,000.

In India, the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 will be available in two colour options Mystic Bronze and Mystic Green, while the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G in Mystic Bronze and Mystic Black colour options.

It also packs a 4,300mAh battery.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G has a larger 6.9-inch WQHD Infinity-O Dynamic AMOLED 2X curved-edge display offering 1,440×3,200 pixels of resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate panel. It derives its power from an octa-core Exynos 990 or Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ SoC with up to 12GB RAM and 512GB of internal storage.

On the imaging front, there is also a triple rear camera setup with a primary 108-megapixel sensor with an f/1.8 aperture. Further assisted by, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens with f/2.2 aperture and a 12-megapixel tertiary lens with f/3.0 aperture. There is a 10-megapixel selfie camera on the front.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G boasts a 4,500mAh battery that supports fast wired as well as wireless charging.

Xiaomi to launch Mi 10 Pro Plus on August 11 at its 10th Anniversary event

Xiaomi is set to host a virtual event on August 11 to celebrate its 10th Anniversary. At the event, we are going to see a slew of its products to be introduced for the first time. The event is confirmed as the company’s Vice President, Lu Weibing announced it via sharing a post on Weibo. The company will be showcasing its new products along with the rumoured Mi 10 Pro Plus but now confirmed Mi 10 Ultra.

To commemorate the Xioami’s 10th anniversary the company has announced a virtual event for August 11 that is going to be kicked off at 7:30 PM local time and 5 PM IST. During the event, the company is speculated to introduce a new variant to its popular Mi 10 series. According to the rumours, the name of the device is suggested to be known as Mi 10 Pro Plus. But in a new development setting all the speculations aside Xiaomi’s co-founder, Lei Jun has confirmed that this device will be called the Mi 10 Ultra in the global market. 

Recently the device’s cases were also leaked online along with detailed banner images revealing a transparent back cover option also. It is tipped to come in a 16GB of RAM and offer 120x zoom. Jun took to Weibo to confirm the name of the device. In addition to this, he has also shared the images of the retail box of the device having the Xiaomi 10th anniversary logo.

Separately another Weibo post suggested that the Mi 10 Ultra will be available in a ceramic and transparent back panel. Apart from that the ceramic colour option of the handset is also tipped to come in two variants of 8GB RAM with 256GB storage and 12GB of RAM with 256GB storage option. While the one with a transparent back is to be available in 12GB RAM with 256GB storage and 16GB RAM with 256GB of internal storage option.

An Indian tipster Bhuvesh Bagri has also shared the official cases for Xiaomi’s upcoming device which revealed the drawn-out rectangular shaped camera module on the rear top left corner. The tipster has also shared the poster of the Mi 10 Ultra showcasing a transparent and a ceramic finish. The poster images revealed that there will be a quad rear camera set up with the main periscope sensor having 120x zoom support.

While the leaks suggest that the phone is going to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor and is also expected to have a high refresh rate panel. The Chipset has now been confirmed by the latest AnTuTu listing.

At the time of the launch, the 6GB variant was priced at Rs 25,250 while the 8GB option was launched at Rs 27,999. But now both the models have received a price cut; these will be available at Rs 23,999 and Rs 25,999 respectively.

The offers on the A51 includes a cashback of Rs 1,500 if purchased using an HSBC or SBI credit card. In addition to this, there will be no-cost EMI options starting at Rs 1,999 per month as well as exchange discounts. The Samsung Galaxy A51 is available in four colour options of Prism Crush Black, Prism Crush White, Haze Crush Silver, and Prism Crush Blue.

Samsung leaves behind Xiaomi and Vivo in a bid to capture India’s smartphone market

Due to the COVID-19 crisis in India, the country’s smartphone market registered a sharp year-over-year (YoY) decline of 50.6 percent in the second quarter to 18.2 million units. However, an IDC report revealed the sales had increased in June as compared to the first quarter but the purchases were mainly driven by availability rather than by choice. And Samsung led the overall mobile phone market with a market share of 24.0 percent, followed by Xiaomi and Vivo.

According to an IDC report, “Samsung surpassed Vivo for the second slot despite a strong YoY decline of 48.5 percent in 2Q20 to 4.8 million units. The Galaxy M21 smartphone was among the nation’s top 5 shipped models in 2Q20 and most of its online-exclusive Galaxy M series was opened to offline channels, though at higher prices.” However, Samsung stood in second place in the online channel with a share of 22.8 percent and was the leader in the offline channel with a 29.1 percent share in 2Q20. The brand also partnered with Benow and Facebook, enabling offline retailers to start sales using digital platforms, thus adhering to social distancing norms.

After Samsung, Xiaomi continued to lead with total shipments of 5.4 million in 2Q20 despite falling 48.7 percent YoY. Four out of the top five models in 2Q20 were Xiaomi models, namely the Redmi Note 8A Dual, Note 8, Note 9 Pro, and Redmi 8, accounting for 21.8 percent share. Xiaomi launched its Mi Commerce solution to create an omnichannel experience for partners but also continued its dominance in the online channel with 42.3 percent share in 2Q20.

Vivo slipped to the third position, with shipments of 3.2 million units, declining by 42.9 percent YoY in 2Q20. Though it retained its fourth position in the online channel on the back of its Z/U series, Vivo slipped to the second slot in the offline channel with a 26.5 percent share in 2Q20. The affordable Y series continued to garner the majority of its volumes, though stock issues remained.

Besides this, realme was at the fourth position with 1.78 million units shipped in 2Q20, declining by 37 percent YoY. The vendor faced stock issues owing to factory closures through May. The affordable C3/C2 accounted for the majority of its shipments 36.3 percent, followed by the newly launched Narzo series.

Twitter introduces new labels for government and state-affiliated media accounts

With an aim to provide people with context to make informed decisions about what they see and how they engage on Twitter, this microblogging & social media network site has introduced new labels to the accounts of key government officials, including foreign ministers, institutional entities, ambassadors, official spokespeople, and key diplomatic leaders. At this time, Twitter has also added these new labels to the accounts belonging to state-affiliated media entities, their editors-in-chief, and/or their senior staff.

Asserting how it defines government accounts for these new labels, an official blog post by Twitter revealed, “Our focus is on senior officials and entities that are the voice of the nation state abroad, specifically the account categories listed above. Labels will only be applied to accounts from the countries represented in the five permanent members of the UN Security Council: China, France, Russian Federation, the United Kingdom, and the United States.”

To bring transparency and practicality, Twitter is initially introducing these labels with a limited and clearly-defined group of countries before expanding to a wider range of countries in the future.

According to Twitter, “We believe this is an important step so that when people see an account discussing geopolitical issues from another country, they have context on its national affiliation and are better informed about who they represent.” Currently, Twitter’s focus is on those within the respective administrations underneath the head of state that offer its policy perspective abroad.

As far as state-affiliated media accounts are concerned, Twitter, “Unlike independent media, state-affiliated media frequently use their news coverage as a means to advance a political agenda. We believe that people have the right to know when a media account is affiliated directly or indirectly with a state actor.”

Furthermore, Twitter notified that state-financed media organizations with editorial independence, like the BBC in the UK or NPR in the US for example, will not be labelled. As part of the development of this process, Twitter consulted with a number of expert groups, including members of the Digital and Human Rights Advisory group in Twitter’s Trust & Safety Council.

Twitter will also no longer amplify state-affiliated media accounts or their Tweets through our recommendation systems including on the home timeline, notifications, and search. Government accounts listed in category one are not affected by this change. To offer even more context to the public, clicking the labels on both categories of accounts directs people to an article explaining the policy and referring them to the Twitter Transparency Report for additional information.

“We’ll notify any account that’s labelled and if the account owner believes we’ve made a mistake, they can reach out to us directly,” Twitter added.

Twitter plans to continue expanding this approach to additional countries over time and look forward to providing additional updates as those plans take shape.

In order to make outdoor activities more informative and data-rich, Garmin India announced the Tactical edition of its GPS-enabled Instinct smartwatch in India. Built for the true outdoor tech enthusiast, the Tactical edition supports users with premium features like Jumpmaster, Dual Position Format, Night Vision, and Stealth Mode along with other preloaded tactical activities.

“Garmin Instinct marked the first offering from Garmin India in the lifestyle segment when it was introduced and we are excited to see how it has become the preferred partner of all the adventure seekers. The partnership made Toast a star; the account of Toast’s sisters, @dogmeetsworld, currently has over 327,000 followers. In addition to this, the laptop comes with a customized cooling system with up to an RTX 2060 MaxQ GPU from NVIDIA. Moreover, there is a UHD resolution Pantone validated 100% sRGB colour-accurate display.

While on the other hand, Zephyrus G15 will be available via Flipkart at Rs 104,990. While ZenBook 14, Vivobook S S14, Vivobook Ultra 14/15 and Vivobook Flip 14 can be purchased via Amazon, Flipkart and other retail stores in India at Rs 69,990, Rs 59,990, Rs 47,990 and Rs 49,990 respectively.
