Vivo X70 Pro Plus review: A pathbreaking flagship

0
Well, where to begin? These days, you rarely come across a flagship smartphone in India that has something very new and exciting to showcase. The Vivo X70 Pro Plus is not only a refreshing change from the run of the mill, but at the end of it, this smartphone left us speechless and as much as we love to talk, the silence was filled with happiness. This is the Vivo X70 Pro Plus review, which jots down every unique feature that makes up the new flagship by the company.

Vivo X70 Pro Plus review: Design and display

Right from the packaging to the smartphone, everything spells premium. You get it in a flat cardboard case that has everything put in well. You get a large power brick, long charging cable and a case too. Bring it out of the box and you will find the gorgeous Vivo X70 Pro Plus, the smartphone demands attention. The front of the smartphone is dominated by a large 3D curved 6.78-inch AMOLED touch display that supports a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR 10+, 1,500 nits of peak brightness and 1,440×3,200 pixels resolution. The aspect ratio is set at 20:9 and PPI lies at 517. Put together, the screen of the Vivo X70 Pro Plus is superb. We watched a lot of videos on it, including FHD videos on YouTube and Netflix. The experience was extremely good. The smartphone not only shows crisp text, but the colours do not wash out under direct sunlight. The gaming experience on it was superb too. We played games like Asphalt 9: Legends and BGMI and they looked extremely refined on the display of Vivo X70 Pro Plus. For day-to-day tasks, videos as well as gaming, the display will not disappoint at all. Vivo-X70 Talking a bit more about the aesthetics of the Vivo X70 Pro Plus, it comes with a punch-hole front camera in the top middle which does not hinder the watching experience. The ear speaker is moved to the extreme top along with the rest of the sensors. So, you get a much more refined edge to edge display. The sideband is built of metal and has the volume rocker, power button on the right, while the USB Type-C charging port speaker grill and nano-SIM tray can be found at the bottom with the primary MIC. Vivo-X70-Pro-Plus-bot Flip it around and you get to see the finest quality back panel with a larger than usual camera bump, which consists of four cameras. Vivo and Zeiss branding can also be found here. Overall, in the built and display department the Vivo X70 Pro Plus gets an A+ on our rankings, we loved every bit of it. back

Vivo X70 Pro Plus review: Performance and Cameras

Let’s quickly get the technical specifications of the smartphone out of the way. The Vivo X70 Pro Plus comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ 5G chipset that is the fastest in the current gen of CPUs. It is partnered with Adreno 660 for graphics, up to 12 GB of RAM and 512GB of fast UFS 3.1 storage. Together it makes up for a mean tech specs sheet. For battery, the company has installed a 4,500 mAh one inside, which some might think is less, but on our tests, it lasted for a full day. Besides, it comes with a 55W faster charger in the box, that can recharge it in a jiffy. Just make and sip a cup of coffee and the phone will be recharged by the time you are finished with it. Over that, the Vivo X70 Pro Plus also supports up to 50W wireless charging and 10W reverse charging, in case you want to charge any other wireless device with it. The operating system on the Vivo X70 Pro Plus is Android 11 that has the FunTouch OS 12 skin loaded on it. There is minimal bloatware on it and Vivo has done an excellent job of optimising it. The system boots quickly, apps open in a blink of an eye and the multitasking experience is best in class. A dedicated app drawer can also be found here. Combined with the 120Hz display the sheer smoothness of scrolling social media feeds and jogging through apps is immensely pleasurable. Vivo-rear Coming to its main attraction, its cameras, the Vivo X70 Pro Plus is by far one of the best we have seen this year. You get best in class Zeiss lenses here, with a gimble attached to it. This means you get super steady shots no matter what the situation is. Also, the primary shooter has a glass lens by Zeiss on it, which is much better than the usual plastic lenses found on most smartphones. The four capturers on the back of the Vivo X70 Pro Plus consist of a 50MP wide-angle lens with laser AF and OIS. The next one is a 48MP ultrawide angle lens with Gimbal OIS, a 12 MP telephoto lens and an 8MP periscope lens with 5X optical zoom. There is Zeiss T* lens coating on it as well that enables the users to capture even better shots even when facing direct light. We were able to produce some excellent shots during the day with all its lenses especially the primary wide-angle and ultrawide angle lenses. The colours were perfect and the clarity was very good. The amount of detail present in each shot is immense and you feel happy with your shot. In most cases, you click one shot and you are done. But the buck does not stop here, there is hyper zoom available in the Vivo X70 Pro Plus, which lets the users zoom up to 60X digitally and get exquisite shots even at that level. Vivo-X70-Pro-Plus-image-1 We were impressed, but it further shocked us when we switched on the night photography mode. In the Vivo X70 Pro Plus, the maker has installed its proprietary V1 imaging chip that can take shots in almost no light. In almost dark conditions the camera was able to produce excellent colours and hues with crisp edges, better than what the eyes could see. The smartphone carries a remarkable set of cameras that not only make you happy but make you jump with joy! Vivo-X70-Pro-Plus-night-shot Users can also capture brilliant videos in 8K at 30FPS, but 4K mode gets you 60FPS. You get life-like colours and stable videos in all the modes, except FHD (1080p) gets you super stabilisation mode. The cameras are great if you love to take videos or vlogging regularly. It can give some of the best DSLRs a run for their money. Yes, the cameras are that good. Moving to the selfie camera, the Vivo X70 Pro Plus comes with 32MP wide-angle lens with f/2.5 aperture size. The story here is also very lively. We were able to squeeze out excellent selfies during the day, but quality fell a little in low light. So, our suggestion is to use the rear cameras if you are shooting at night. The front camera can also shoot videos in 4K at 60FPS, which as said is great for vloggers. The colours are very close to life and you do not see any ghosting or details lost here.

Verdict

All in all, we enjoyed our experience with this smartphone. There was not a single person we came across who did not enquire about the smartphone we were holding. The Vivo X70 Pro Plus is also all weather-ready with an IP68 rating making it dust and waterproof. Security features such as an under-display fingerprint sensor are also there that works nicely. The smartphone is 5G ready, so it is futureproof too. WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 and aptX HD are also part of the package. The smartphone is good in the sound department too as you get loud and crunchy sound from its loudspeaker. At Rs 79,990 Vivo has got themselves a winner. If you are in the market looking for a professional picture shooter with good battery life, best in class performance and good looks, your search ends here.
