Google Play Store has millions of apps and many times large number of frequent submissions allows harmful and malicious apps to infiltrate the Play Store and collect personal data from people’s smartphones and often damage them. 43 harmful apps that were covertly using a phone’s battery were recently removed by Google. The warning was issued after McAfee’s security team found a collection of 43 apps that might show adverts when the device isn’t in use. Soon after this discovery, Google Play Store became vigilant and removed these dubious apps from its platform since they may drain the battery and utilise mobile data even while the screen is off.According to McAfee’s Mobile Research Team, the fact that these apps run advertisements even while the device’s screen is off may at first seem convenient to consumers. However, it’s obviously against Google Play Developer’s guidelines for how advertisements should be shown. The blog post noted, “This affects not only the advertisers who pay for invisible Ads but also the users as it drains the battery, consumes data and poses potential risks such as information leaks and disruption of user profiling caused by Clicker behaviour.”What’s more worrying is 43 apps that have been downloaded 2.5 million times in total. TV/DMB Players, Music Downloaders, News, and Calendar applications are some of the targeted apps. The ad fraud library said to employ certain strategies to avoid detection and inspection. By intentionally delaying the start of its fraudulent actions, it creates a latent period beginning with installation.Additionally, all of this library’s complex configurations can be remotely changed and pushed using the Firebase Storage or Messaging services. The challenge of discovering and analysing this fraudulent behaviour is considerably increased by these considerations. Additionally, the latent period often lasts for a few weeks, making it difficult to catch. It is important to exercise caution when granting permissions, such as deactivating “power saving” and enabling “draw over other apps.” These permissions may allow certain acts to be carried out covertly in the background, raising concerns regarding the motives and actions of the aforementioned libraries or apps. Giving these rights can lead to additional harmful behaviour, including the display of phishing pages and background advertisements.McAfee’s Mobile Research Team explained that users are unaware that running advertising is present on their devices because the fetching and loading of ads begins when the device screen is switched off after the latent time. By contacting the special domain associated with the application (for example, mppado.oooocooo.com), this ad library registers device information. then use Firebase Storage to obtain the precise ad URL and display the adverts. It is significant to highlight that this procedure uses mobile data and power resources.Users may catch a peek at the advertisement at this point if they swiftly turn on their devices before it closes on its own.McAfee informed Google about the exposed apps, and they responded right away. While some apps are updated by the developer, the majority are no longer accessible through Google Play. This threat has been identified by McAfee Mobile Security as Android/Clicker.Users should exercise caution and carefully consider the necessity of granting permissions like power saving exclusion or drawing over other apps before authorising them.

The second-generation Nothing Phone has been released in India. We have been using the Nothing Phone 2 as our main driver consistently for the past month. We were really pleased with the performance of its predecessor, which was a very good phone. We would also agree that the corporation is obviously attempting to do things differently with the design. The specs have gotten better significantly, yes. Its price begins at Rs 45,000, and compared to Phone 1, there has been a significant price increase. Now that its price screams premium let’s see what they deliver at this pricing in our Nothing Phone 2 Review.

Nothing Phone 2 Review: Design and Display
Let’s begin by saying, the Type C to Type C cable, the SIM ejector tool, and the phone are all transparent. Neat. The Nothing Phone 2 seems a tad larger in our hands this time. Additionally, we have the Nothing Phone 1, which allows us to see exactly what changes have been made to the current phone. They are hence almost identical in appearance. In terms of size, the Phone 2 is a little larger than the earlier model. In terms of width, it is also wider. The glass at the back is curved but the corners are flat. This time, the glyph lighting has also seen a little adjustment. When comparing them side by side, you can see that this generation has 11 glyphs overall compared to the prior generation’s five.Nothing Phone 2 Vs Nothing Phone 1We received the white colour option last year, which improved the appearance and made the glyph interface more appealing. We received the grey version this time, but we think the white version is more appealing. The antenna lines are clearly visible on the frames because they are made of metal.Given that it has a glass back, the box does not contain any case. You should purchase one to protect your phone from drops and scratches; otherwise, the joy of the glyph illumination will be lost. Here, we should also point out that the glyph lighting also serves as a warning when the phone is dropped accidentally.Speaking of buttons and ports, there is a speaker grille, a USB Type C connector for charging, and a SIM card tray at the bottom that supports two nano SIM cards. On the right side of the frame is a power button, and on the left is a volume rocker up and down. A microphone with noise cancellation is located on top.As we already stated, Nothing phone 2 is larger than its predecessor, and as a result, it boasts an even bigger 6.7-inch display. The display of the Nothing Phone 1 was 6.5 inches. Its LTPO OLED display has a Full-HD+ resolution of 2,412 x 1,080 pixels, an adjustable refresh rate of 120Hz, and a touch sampling rate of 240Hz. The device has SGS Low Blue Light and HDR10+ certifications.Because it is an LTPO display, the refresh rate can vary from 1Hz to 120Hz. The maximum brightness supported by the phone is 1,600 nits, and the average brightness is 1,000 nits. In terms of brightness, it is undoubtedly superior to its older sibling. If you take it outside, visibility in the sunlight is no problem. Yes, this is a 10-bit panel, and HDR10+ capability is also included. Also Read: iQoo Neo 7 Pro Review: Great Value For MoneyThe HDR performance is excellent as well, with vibrant hues. Netflix, however, does not support HDR, which is totally unacceptable for a 45K phone. HDR is supported by YouTube though. No ghost touches will occur because of the flat display, which is very beneficial if you game.Dolby Atmos compatibility is available for the speakers on the audio front. Although it isn’t the best audio performance available out there, we did like it. Therefore, the audio quality is better than normal.
Nothing Phone 2 Review: Performance and Cameras
When it comes to the performance, there is a significant jump. Qualcomm’s 4nm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor powers the Nothing Phone 2. The CPU used in the previous iteration was 778G. The chipset is undoubtedly well-optimized for the NothingOS. It has 512GB UFS 3.1 ROM and up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM.While typing, the tactile feedback is pleasant and satisfying. The calls are of excellent quality. The earpiece is of excellent quality as well. This phone comes with three microphones in total, which is also a plus. The fingerprint sensor is flawlessly functioning and has no known difficulties. The smoothness and fluidity of the Phone 2 are excellent. It fared exceptionally well for routine use, which includes daily activities like browsing the internet, scrolling through social media feeds, watching videos, and listening to music.Nothing Phone 2 won’t let you down in terms of games either. Games can be played at their highest settings. Unbelievable, it doesn’t even get warm when you play a lot of games. Yes, the thermals are excellent as well.Phone 2 comes with Nothing OS 2.0, based on Android 13. Along with 3 years of Android updates, the company has also announced that the phone would receive 4 years of security updates. When comparing the Nothing Phone 2 with the Nothing Phone 1 (Review), it is clear that Nothing has worked very hard on the OS. This time, it contains a number of features that are not available on other devices. The home screen has been updated and now appears more aesthetically pleasing and distinctively different from before. There are multiple widgets, and the icon set is all black and white, giving it a unique and exciting appearance. However, there are numerous apps, including Netflix, BGMI, Instagram and more, that aren’t supported by the black-and-white icons set when you install third-party apps. They also paid close attention to the little details, like the ability to customise folders and give each folder a unique design and feel. There are many wonderful customisation features available for Glyph. For those who don’t know, the LED or glyph lights are located on the back panel. There were 5 glyphs in the Nothing Phone 1 from the previous year; this time, there are 11. The glyph interface has also been enhanced and made more useable, and many new functions have been introduced.Nothing Phone 2 Vs Nothing Phone 1Similar to its predecessor, the Nothing Phone 2’s glyphs may be used to set ringtones, turn on a torch, and receive notifications. In addition, you can do a lot by using this feature’s settings alone. There, you can look for the Glyph interface, which has a wide range of options for customisations. The level of glyph lighting can be changed in the settings. There are three options available: automatic, disable automatic, and choose different lighting levels. You may also add customised contacts and create ringtones. Even if the phone is on mute, this feature can be useful.Additionally, there are other notification settings accessible, but the most intriguing one is the ability to use the glyph composer. You see a pad for creating a new phone ringtone. All New Essential is a different new option. You can use this to enable essential notifications for applications. Flip to Glyph, which requires only a simple flip of the smartphone to switch to Silent mode, is another essential feature. A countdown timer can be set with the glyph using the Glyph Timer. When the timer expires, an alarm will ring to let you know that the set length of time has passed. Every time you change the volume, it will be visible on the phone’s back thanks to a volume indicator. Additionally, a charging metre that displays the charging status is also present. Also Read:Redmi 12 5G Review: Delivers on every frontOne very important point that we want to emphasise before moving on to the camera section is the fact that you cannot set it up unless you insert a working India SIM card. We haven’t seen this interesting feature on any smartphone before. The smartphone has two rear cameras: a 1/2.76-inch 50-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL JN1 sensor with an ultra-wide lens (114-degree FoV and f/2.2 aperture) and a 1/1.56-inch 50-megapixel primary Sony IMX890 sensor with optical image stabilisation (OIS) and electronic image stabilisation (EIS) support. A 32-megapixel 1/2.74-inch Sony IMX615 sensor with an improved f/2.45 aperture is located up front and has been updated for selfies and video calling.Regarding the images taken in daylight, the main camera captured quite a bit of details. Dynamic range is mostly done fine, and colours tend to be done accurately. However, the camera’s contrasty picture, which isn’t very brilliant even in the bright sun, is something we didn’t enjoy. As a result, the dynamic range occasionally didn’t appear to be that good. But when you zoom in, the details are excellent. Therefore, if you prefer brightly coloured excellent images, this might not be the greatest option available. The Nothing Phone 2 camera’s performance won’t let you down if you’re seeking natural colours and accurate colour reproduction. In comparison to the primary camera, the ultrawide angle camera also produces photos that are quite comparable. Despite the fact that the photographs are well-detailed, the contrast is a little too strong, and shadows are buried. The ultra-wide-angle photographs are fairly well done in terms of clarity and colour. The colours are really natural and wonderfully done here, and the close-up photos also have outstanding details and an impressive level of clarity. It is also possible to take macro pictures with the ultrawide angle camera. The high-resolution sensor produces truly excellent photos. The colour, details, clarity, and overall appearance are all good.Moving on, you have the option of taking 2x zoom portraits in addition to the standard 1x. The edge detection on the 2X portraits is pretty accurate, however, the background blur seems a little strange. As a result, the portraits appear to be a little too out of place. Again, portraits are a little too stark here, and this needs refinement as it is not the greatest portrait available in this price range.Without Night Mode on Vs with Night Mode onThe primary sensor performed brilliantly in low-light situations. Images using artificial indoor lighting offer excellent detail and appear quite natural. The Nothing Phone 2’s low-light photographs are retained as dark images, which means they are not overexposed and the details and colours are fairly nicely done. The low-light ultra-wide angle pictures are also good. The skin tones and selfie quality are both excellent. Despite the somewhat warmer tones in the selfies, we think this is unquestionably one of the best selfies because it has excellent sharpness levels and appears very real. Even selfies in portrait mode have improved greatly. The edge detection looks fantastic, and the skin tones are quite true. Even selfies in low light are beautiful.Let’s get to the video recording now. The phone 2 can record videos at a resolution of 4K@60 frames per second. Although a little overly contrasty, the 4K video quality is pretty nice overall. We really enjoyed how fluid the video was, and the whole experience is very similar to that of the very high-end phones of Samsung (Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra Review) and Apple (Apple iPhone 14 Pro Review). Even the 4K 30FPS footage supports OIS and is quite fluid. Both the resolution and the sharpness settings exhibit good detail. All formats, including 1080p 30FPS, provide excellent stability. In this price range, this stability is arguably the best that we have experienced.Additionally, there has been a modest improvement in battery capacity. This time, the 4,700mAh battery in the Nothing Phone 2 supports 45W rapid charging. However, an adaptor is not included in the box, so you will need to purchase it separately. With intensive usage, we were able to achieve more than 7 hours of continuous screen time on this phone thanks to its battery-efficient 8+ Gen 1 processor. The glyph lighting does not use a lot of battery power, contrary to what you may think. The phone takes around an hour to fully charge at a 45W charging rate.
Verdict
Price-wise, Nothing Phone 2 is significantly more expensive than Phone 1, which debuted at roughly Rs 32K. This one price starts at Rs 45,000. This is the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 device with the finest tweaking, in our opinion. Yes, it offers that good of a performance. Compared to the Nothing Phone 1, the Glyph offers a wide range of options. The following version or software update will undoubtedly improve it, giving you more possibilities. Despite the price hike, the optics still have a twin 50-megapixel camera configuration without a telephoto lens. In terms of details and sharpness levels, the primary sensor performs pretty well. However, the dynamic range doesn’t appear to be all that good. Although it is not the best camera available, it won’t let you down. Another significant advancement and unquestionably one of this device’s best features is the selfie camera. The Nothing Phone 2 also has excellent video recording capabilities.
Should we recommend this phone to you?
No, if you already own a Nothing Phone 1. Yes, if you’re searching for a smartphone with good performance, but only if the price had been a little bit lower—say, around 40K—could it have been a good value for money phone. But hey the festive season is right around the corner you can get it at a discount then, from any of the e-tailers.

Meta has introduced a new update for WhatsApp that includes the ability to transfer HD-quality images within the app. Till now the feature was in the testing phase and is now being rolled out to both iOS and Android users across the globe. Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, posted on Facebook to announce the official debut of the function.Until now, WhatsApp sent a compressed version of every image that was sent by default, which might lead to a loss of quality for any photographs sent to receivers via the application. A feature that allows users to share a higher-quality image instead of a compressed image has been added to WhatsApp‘s most recent update. The most recent version adds a new HD button at the top that may be used to send high-definition pictures. Although HD resolution images are sharper than regular quality photos, they require more data and storage space. Also Read:Titan Eye X 2.0 and Fastrack Vibes 2.0 SmartGlasses launched in IndiaAdditionally, users must manually choose the HD option every time they’d like to share a high-quality image because Standard is the default choice. WhatsApp will display a little HD icon next to the image thumbnail in the chat when a high-definition image arrives. The standard version will be available for download for recipients with terrible internet connections.Meta made no mention of the amount of compression that will be made to HD photos But WABetaInfo previously disclosed that WhatsApp will still use a slight amount of compression even if HD resolution is chosen.Sending HD videos via the app is not yet supported. Users have to upload videos as documents in order to share them without compression; this technique also lets users send photos without compressing. In addition to this HD photos will be protected by end-to-end encryption. For the latest gadget and tech news, and gadget reviews, follow us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. There is nothing more annoying than WhatsApp crashing on your phone when you need to read an urgent message on the app. There could be multiple reasons behind this unusual behaviour, which means you’ll have to go through several methods to diagnose and fix the issue. Why does WhatsApp keep crashing on my device?
There are a multitude of reasons that could be causing these unexpected causes. One of the most common reasons behind app malfunctions is corrupted files in the cache. If you don’t clear the app’s cache regularly, the older unused data can corrupt over time. These corrupt files can keep the app from functioning properly.
Another reason that goes under the radar while diagnosing the erratic app behaviour is the lack of storage on your device. Apps like WhatsApp need some breathing space on your device’s memory to run correctly. If someone sends you a video on WhatsApp and there isn’t enough memory on your device to store it, the app will shut down unexpectedly.
The good news is that issues can be sorted out rather easily. Go through our list of fixes one by one and check the app after completing every method. Let us know which method worked for you!
Force Stop and Restart WhatsApp
Step 1: Go to Settings and select Apps.Step 2: Select WhatsApp.Step 3: Tap on Force Stop.Step 4:Confirm your selection in the popup box.Step 5:Launch WhatsApp from the app drawer.
Restart your phone
If restarting WhatsApp doesn’t work, try restarting your phone instead. It is possible that an OS-related issue may be causing WhatsApp to crash on your device. Minor issues on your phone can be fixed with a quick reboot. To restart your phone, press and hold the side key and select Restart from the list of options. Some phones may require pressing the side key and volume up key simultaneously to access the power menu.
Clear WhatsApp’s cache
Step 1: Go to Settings.Step 2: Select Apps.Step 3: Select WhatsApp.Step 4: Tap on Storage.Step 5: Select Clear Cache.
Reinstall WhatsApp
Sometimes, clearing the cache and force-stopping the app isn’t good enough. You may need to uninstall it altogether and then reinstall it on your device. It may not be the ideal solution, but it can fix the background issues causing the app to crash. Before you delete WhatsApp from your device, make sure you have backed up your chat history. Upon reinstalling the app, you will need to verify your phone number. After that, you can restore your chat history from the backup you just created.
Update WhatsApp
If you’re using a very old version of WhatsApp, it may no longer be compatible with your device. This can lead to the app crashing as soon as you try to open it. To fix this issue, head over to the Google Play Store, search for WhatsApp, and tap Update on the app’s page. Once updated, WhatsApp will resume normal functioning.
Clear storage space
Lack of enough storage space can cause certain apps to crash on your phone. In order to accommodate temporary files, WhatsApp needs a fair bit of free storage space to work. If the app keeps crashing every time you try to download the media sent to you, it is very likely that lack of storage space is the reason behind this unusual behaviour. Go to Settings>Storage and make some space on your device by deleting all the redundant and rarely used files.
Reset App Preferences
Resetting app preferences is the quickest way to restore all the apps on your phone to their factory settings without losing any data. If you suspect that WhatsApp is crashing because of a setting you changed recently, resetting the app preferences will help fix it. Doing so will reset customised settings for all the apps on your phone, not just WhatsApp. Go to Settings>Apps, tap the ellipses, and select Reset App Preferences from the list of options.
Check Internet Connectivity
If your phone is receiving a poor network, it could cause WhatsApp to crash. Since the messaging app is reliant on the Internet to send and receive messages and media, the lack of a good connection can create trouble. Move to an area with a better network reception to switch to WiFi to get rid of this issue.
Update your phone
Step 1: Go to Settings and select Software Update.
Step 2: Hit Download and Install.
Step 3: Select Install Now.
Ask WhatsApp Support for help
If you have tried every fix on this list and still can’t resolve this issue, the only option you are left with is to contact WhatsApp Support for help. Thankfully, WhatsApp makes it very easy for you to reach out to them. Hit the ellipses and select Settings. Then go to Help>Contact us. Explain in detail the problem you are facing with the app. WhatsApp’s support team will respond to you within the app.

Xiaomi’s subsidiary, Poco, recently stepped into the TWS segment with the launch of Poco Pods at a very competitive price of Rs 1,199. It shares a lot of similarities with its Redmi cousin – Buds 4 Active. On paper, Poco Pods rock a great list of specs. With 12mm drivers, Bluetooth 5.3, Google Fast Pair support, low latency mode, and fast charging, these earbuds seem like a great deal under Rs 1,500. But since it’s Poco’s debut TWS product, we thought we’d take it out for a spin and see how good it is for everyday use. Here is our Poco Pods review.Read Also:Flipkart is offering a huge discount of Rs 77,901 on iPhone 14 Plus

Poco Pods review: Design
For a first-generation TWS product, the Poco Pods does not have any gaping issues in its design. In fact, it closely resembles the Redmi Buds 4 Active we reviewed last month. Poco’s TWS is more compact and slightly smaller than its Redmi counterpart. The charging case gets a matte-like finish on its plastic body. The Poco branding is printed in yellow just under the lid, bringing the company’s signature dual-tone colour profile to the TWS. There are two extra pairs of ear tips inside the box, but like the Redmi Buds 4 Active, the USB charging cable is missing here as well.We like the overall build of the Poco charging case. The quality of plastic used here is pretty good – there’s nothing flimsy about it. The hinge feels like it’s built to last. If you like to fidget with the charging case, you don’t have to worry about the hinge losing its snappiness after a while. A glossy strip runs around the circumference of the oval-shaped case and offers a nice contrast from the matte texture. The notification light and the USB charging port are positioned at the bottom of the case.Flipping the lid open, you’ll find the earbuds magnetically locked in a vertical position. The yellow inner panel of the charging case follows Poco’s signature colour scheme. The black earbuds feature the conventional in-ear design and get yellow silicone ear tips. The matte texture has been extended to the earbuds as well. The fit offered by these earbuds is snug and does not cause any fatigue to the ears even after several hours of use. When it comes to touch controls, however, the Poco Pods could do better. The outer panel of the earbuds failed to register touch gestures on multiple occasions. After struggling with it for a considerable duration of time, we went back to smartphone controls. Hopefully, a firmware update can fix this issue. On the bright side, these earbuds are rated IPX4 for water and sweat resistance. This means you don’t have to worry about any moisture-related damage to the TWS while working out.
Poco Pods review: Performance
Delivering the audio output on the Poco Pods are 12mm drivers on each earbud. There’s just one (SBC) codec on offer, which is pretty much the standard when it comes to budget earbuds. Once connected, the earbuds have a functional range of 10 metres. Google Fast Pair support for Android is a nice feature to have if you plan on using these earbuds with multiple smartphones.Poco Pods offer a bass-heavy audio output that is surprisingly well-tuned for a TWS in this price bracket. If you’re looking for true neutrality in the soundstage, then entry-level wireless earbuds are not for you. The low end is unsurprisingly boosted on these earbuds, and we don’t seem to mind it that much. The thumping audio output with a very prominent envelope of bass is ideal if you like listening to classic rock, hip-hop, and modern pop.On the downside, the mids and the highs on the soundstage are slightly muddled by the bass elements. While we enjoyed the thumping sound, some nuances in the mix were entirely lost in the output we received. The minimal clapper hits on some songs failed to create the desired impact when played on Poco Pods. This isn’t a dealbreaker by any means, just something that eludes this category of TWS products. The audio profile maintains its composition even at the maximum volume. There is very little distortion in music even when it is being played at 100% volume. While the Poco Pods do not go as loud as the Redmi Buds 4 Active, it is a nice trade-off for a distortion-free audio profile. Overall, Poco Pods’ audio performance is pretty solid for a debut TWS product.Poco Pods can be paired with the Xiaomi Earubds app. This app lets you toggle the low latency mode on the earbuds and update the firmware. On the home screen, you can view the charge left on either earbud. While app support is an essential feature for wireless earbuds, the Xiaomi Earbuds app is in dire need of an update. Apart from switching on the low latency mode, there isn’t much you can do on the app. At the very least, it should let you customise the touch controls. The 60ms low latency mode does its job pretty well on the Poco Pods. The sounds relayed while playing Call of Duty Mobile reached our ears without any delay. We did experience occasional jitters but they didn’t hamper the gameplay at all. During voice calls, the ENC tech on these earbuds pulls its weight and blocks out the surrounding noise, enhancing the call quality. However, if you’re making a call in outdoor conditions amidst overwhelming background noise, you would want to revert to your phone’s microphone. The earbuds offer 5 hours of standalone playtime, with an additional 30 hours in the charging case. Since we listen to music at a higher volume, we got around 4 hours of continuous playback on the earbuds. If you stick to 40-60% volume, you can easily push the earbuds to 5 hours. With fast charging onboard, the case can be fully charged in just 90 minutes.Read Also:5 Best Smartphones under Rs 10,000 in India
Verdict
The Poco Pods are very similar to the Redmi Buds 4 Active, not just in design but also in performance. This works in its favour because it is Rs 200 cheaper than its Redmi counterpart. The audio output is bass-heavy but tuned very well. The bass heads will certainly enjoy this one. On the flip side, the touch controls can be tough to work with at times and the smartphone app needs to be fleshed out a bit more. Personally, the design, build quality, and audio profile of this TWS are good enough to look past its minor hang-ups. At Rs 1,199, the Poco Pods are a good purchase.
