PUBG Mobile is at the peak of its popularity and it has got millions of users across the globe completely hooked to it. The online multiplayer game is considered to be so addictive that it has actually been banned in primary schools in Gujarat.
The State government there has issued a circular to district authorities asking them to ban PUBG. According to officials, the circular by the state primary education departments was issued after it was recommended by the Gujarat State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
We should mention that this has been just days after a student’s body in Jammu and Kashmir – called the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association – had sought for getting PUBG Mobile in the state. According to the students who were a part of the protest, the game was responsible for their poor results in examinations.
Furthermore, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has also called to get PUBG banned across the country. The commission has also sent letters regarding this to all the state governments in the country recommending to ban PUBG.
Coming back to Gujarat, the circular issued by the state government has directed District Primary Education Officers to take whatever steps are necessary to ban the game in primary schools. According to the circular, the ban is now necessary as school-going children are getting addicted to PUBG and the game is “adversely affecting their studies”. Although it is not known which version of the game the government wants to place a ban on, it is being speculated that the ban will only be on PUBG Mobile and not its PC or console versions.
Jagruti Pandya, Chairperson of the Gujarat child rights body, said that the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has recommended placing a ban on the game across the country. She was quoted saying, “The NCPCR had sent a letter to all the states and recommended a ban on the game. All the states are required to implement it. Looking at the negative effects of the game, we had recently sent a letter to the state government recommending a ban on the game.”

Chinese smartphone maker Huawei has announced that it will be releasing a next-generation smartphone that will use its own technology in place of components made by companies in the United States.
This is being seen as an attempt by the company to compete with the Western industry in face of Washington’s allegations that the smartphones by Huawei may be a security risk. The smartphone brand is now spending heavily to develop its own chip technology, which is an area where American companies like Qualcomm are leading.
Coming back to the smartphone Huawei has spoken about, the company’s CEO for its consumer unit, Richard Yu has said that it will be seen showcasing its first foldable 5G handset at the Mobile World Congress 2019, that is scheduled to begin on February 25 in Barcelona. Huawei’s foldable smartphone will be powered by the company’s own Kirin 980 chipset and Balong 5000 modem instead of components from Us-based suppliers.
Yu also said that sales of Huawei smartphones and other products have not been affected by Western security warnings and he added that sales, in fact, grew by more than 50% in 2018. He was quoted saying that his unit’s sales topped $52 billion in annual revenue of the company has forecast for 2018. We should mention that till now, Huawei has not released its 2018 financial results for the entire company.
Shedding some light on what we can expect, Yu said, “In this complicated political environment, we still maintain strong growth.”
It is worth noticing that although Huawei is currently dependent on Intel Corp and some other suppliers based in the United States, it has developed its own chips for mobile phones and servers. We should also add that the company’s chipsets are only used in its own products.
According to Xi Wang of research firm IDC, Qualcomm has a vast array of products and patents for smartphone chips, but Huawei is also catching up in the race. Speaking about Huawei’s chips, he was quoted saying, “Generally speaking, Huawei’s chips are equal to Qualcomm chips in performance. Not only at the mid-level but at the high end, Huawei can compete with Qualcomm.”

Today, Apple has been granted a patent that allows it to build future iPhones and Apple watches in such a way that they will be able to detect poisonous gases and carbon monoxide (CO). The patent says that these future Apple products are going to have built-in sensors that would help them detect any sign of poisonous gas, especially CO near them. Carbon monoxide is considered to be one of the most dreadful gases that is injurious to health. It is often dubbed as a silent killer, because it is odorless and tasteless, one cannot be aware if they are inhaling it but once that happens it can severely affect your health.
Apple just might incorporate IP68 water-resistance on iPhone and Apple Watch with this framework in mind. However, it is probably not ingraining a physical gas sensor into its device that requires another physical chassis opening.
PatentlyApple said, “Apple’s patent claim #9 points to a “target gas consisting of at least one of ozone (O.sub.3), nitrogen dioxide (NO.sub.2), nitrogen monoxide (NO), sulfur dioxide (SO.sub.2), carbon monoxide (CO), methane (CH.sub.4), and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and wherein the components of a gas mixture other than the target gas comprises poisoning species including siloxanes, sulfates, phosphates and chlorides, and/or interfering species such as water vapor.” The patent shows diagrams of a “miniature gas sensing device encased in an enclosure.”
Talking about the enclosure, Apple Watch is being used in the patent demonstration. Speaking of air cleansing, such a technology has been adopted in the past to make air healthier around human beings. For example, smart air-purifiers launched by Tesla have special HEPA filter for its vehicles, opening the possibility for “Bioweapon Defense” filtration mode. Guilherme Rambo pointed out how your own IoT smoke detector with an Arduino circuit board, Apple Watch can have gas-detecting abilities. However, this is only possible if gas water-resistance is not impaired.
Before being implemented, water-resistant smoke detectors will require a lot of shrinking because they are generally bulky. So, it is going to take sometime before we see Apple Watch and iPhone being upgraded with this new technology that seems to be taken out of a sci-fi novel.

Popular messaging app WhatsApp is back in news. The Facebook-owned messaging platform has just received a new beta update for Android that brings with itself new features for photos that are exchanged on the app.
As a part of WhatsApp’s beta update version 2.19.18, the app has got support for a new ‘Show in chat’ shortcut and a new ‘Rotate’ feature. While the former allows users to quickly see media directly in the chat, the latter – as the name suggests – enables users to rotate images without leaving WhatsApp.
To access the two features, you need to click on the image you received on WhatsApp within the app, and then press on the three dot icon on the top right.
Here, you will see that ‘Show in chat’ is the second option and ‘Rotate’ is the sixth option. We should mention that ‘Show in chat’ shortcut was already available for iOS and ‘Rotate’ was earlier available as ‘Rotate left’ and ‘Rotate right’. However, it has now been clubbed into one.
Another new thing that we noticed on WhatsApp’s beta version 2.19.18 is a forward icon next to images on chat. So instead of clicking on the image, then pressing on the three dot icon to select the option of ‘Forward’ as we did earlier, you can just directly press on the shortcut in chat next to the image.
It is worth noticing that on pressing the three dot icon, you no longer see the ‘Forward’ option, which basically means that WhatsApp has started placing it next to the images in chat to make it easier for users to share their photos with multiple contacts via the app.
In unrelated news, The Facebook-owned messaging app broke down this week affecting almost 1.5 billion users across the world. Reports that followed the breakdown suggested that both Android and iOS users were affected and were not able to access the app on that day. It is worth noticing that this happened right after WhatsApp announced that it is rolling out the limit to forwarding messages to just 5 chats across the globe. The limit to forwarding messages was first released in India back in July 2018 in order to curb the spread of fake news in the country.

WhatsApp had introduced a separate app meant for business customers, known as the WhatsApp Business. Now, its being provided for desktop and web use by porting many of its popular features that were until now, only available on smartphones. WhatsApp Business app has spread to 5 million users currently. The features that WhatsApp has included for desktop and web apps include tools to organise and filter chats, as well as to quickly reply to customer inquiries. This feature is popularly known as Quick Replies.
It enables businesses to respond to common questions from customers in the form of pre-written replies. This is reminiscent of a Facebook feature called Saved Replies. This method also cateres to Businessmen that allows them to reply to customers with canned messages. The quick replies in WhatsApp can be activated with the use of “/” button. The Quick Replies feature joins other customer service features, such as automated greeting messages that are triggered when a customer calls a business account.
The automated greeting messages feature can also be used to get rid of messages that can be scheduled for situations in which you are unable to send immediate reply to customer inquiries. Now, these features are rolling out to desktop users and web app users along with labels and chat list filters (CLF). Labels helps you organise contacts and CLF helps users filter chat list by categories which may include unread messages, groups or broadcast slants. These features however, are not new to smartphones. As the company puts it, this move has been made so that business owners can easily execute their activities.
With this, it will be very convenient for them to send invoices, schedule appointments, and respond to customer inquiries. Now, they don’t have to resort to their smartphones in order to execute these tasks everytime. The introduction of WhatsApp Business account to desktop and web apps was done yesterday.

Realme is all set to launch a new budget smartphone in the Indian market. And in all probability, it may happen very soon because a dedicated landing page for an upcoming Realme smartphone has gone live on Flipkart. Right after the landing page went live on Flipkart, media reports surfaced online suggesting that the company may be planning to launch the Realme A1 smartphone.
It is worth noticing that the page on Flipkart says ‘Entertainment ka Boss’, which can only mean that the upcoming device by Realme will be focussed on entertainment. Although no features or specifications have mentioned on the e-commerce website, the landing page does suggest that the upcoming device will have a very high onboard storage space and will feature a display with a wide notch on top.
We should mention that Realme U1 and Realme 2 Pro smartphones come with a smaller waterdrop-style notch, the smartphone that has been listed is likely to be priced below the two devices. And if this is true, the company may be looking to launch a smartphone priced around Rs 10,000 in India. And needless to say, the smartphone will be exclusively available via Flipkart. The company also tied up with the e-commerce major when it launched the Realme 2, Realme 2 Pro, and Realme C1 smartphones.
A number of speculative reports have surfaced online that claim that Oppo‘s sub-brand plans to launch the Realme A1 mobile in the country and that is the smartphone the landing page on Flipkart is referring to. Speaking about Realme A1, a prior report in DroidShout claimed that the smartphone will be available in Black and Yellow colours. Although there is no word on the specifications of the upcoming device, they shouldn’t be as impressive as the ones we saw on Realme U1.
But considering that the handset will be focussing on entertainment, we expect to see a large display with Full HD+ resolution. It is also being speculated that the Realme A1 smartphone will be powered by MediaTek Helio P60 or P70 chipset. On the camera front, the device is speculated to come with dual rear cameras with AI enhancements. However, we should mention that all of this is just speculations right now, and we should take this information with a pinch of salt. We’ll update you when we will get to know more about the smartphone.

Cab-hailing app Uber has revamped its Fleet app in India. The app now comes with a feature to allow fleet owners to connect with new drivers and add them to their network. The Uber Fleet app has been rolled out to a number of new cities in India over the last few months.
And according to Uber‘s Head of Driver Product, Daniel Danker, the app is now being rolled out across the country. Danker also said that the Fleet app now comes with an enhanced experience with greater usability. The revamped app also has features that will help fleet owners manage their vehicles and drivers in a better manner, Danker added.
Speaking about the Driver matching feature, Danker said that it allows fleet owners to connect with even those drivers on Uber platforms who don’t own a vehicle. These driver-partners will come onboard only after Uber does a verification and fleet owners will be able to see the details of these candidates before they connect with them via the app.
Danker was quoted by PTI saying, “There is an opportunity for people, who didn’t approach us as they didn’t own a vehicle, to now come on board as a partner. We expect this (number) to be significant.”
He further added that besides India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Latin America also have a large number of fleet owners with a number of cars and there is potential to launch the Fleet app in these regions as well.
The ride-hailing app is locked in an intense battle with Ola in India as well as Australia and it reportedly has around three lakh driver-partners in India. Uber saw its revenue from India grow to Rs 21.5 crore, while its net profit was Rs 19.6 lakh in the fiscal year that ended in March 2018. The company has stated earlier that India is one among its top markets and it will remain committed to investing in the country.
According to Danker, once it launched the Fleet app, Uber found an increase in the operational efficiency of the fleet owners and a reduction in the vehicle downtime. It also observed that driver-partners on its network were completing more number of trips.

Twitter has been spotted testing a dedicated tag to highlight the original source of a thread. This tag, that is dubbed as “Original Tweeter” is visible to a small number of users. This is being executed on pretext for highlighting relevant replies in discussions and create a distinction between respondents and the original source of a thread. Previously, Twitter revealed its plans to bring engaging conversations on its platform. It also announced that it will start off with a beta programme to test its upcoming features.
The Original Tweeter tag is going to roll out for a handful users belonging to both Android and iOS platforms. Regarding this, it gave a confirmation to TechCrunch, “Twitter’s purpose is to serve the public conversation. As part of this work, we’re exploring adding more context to discussions by highlighting relevant replies – like those from the original Tweeter.” The latest development of this tag is probably going to help users distinguish the original source of a thread from multiple respondents. This, however, will be available to the masses later.
This move is done in order to eradicate fake accounts that spread misinformation on Twitter. The Original Tweeter Tag will help identify who has started with a thread. Even profile information such as photos, name if changed, won’t be an obstacle for users to identify the original tweeter of a thread. Similarly on Reddit, there is an original poster icon that one can see right after the username of the original Redditor of a thread. As mentioned, twitter announced that it is working in order to launch a new beta version for its upcoming features.
The ones who are enrolled in the beta testing for Twitter’s new features will initially be able to test colour-coded replies to distinguish multiple users. Also, there is going to be an algorithmic testing for emphasising important replies.

It seems like Vivo has decided to launch smartphones that look more and more futuristic and pack some really cool features. First, we saw the Vivo NEX last year that came with a pop-up selfie camera and an in-display fingerprint scanner. Then we saw its successor Vivo NEX Dual Display that, as the name suggests, comes with two displays and no selfie camera as the second screen on the device’s back panel can be used while clicking selfies with the triple rear camera setup. We loved the design of both of these smartphones. And now, the Chinese smartphone brand has unveiled its Vivo Apex 2019 concept phone that has some really cool features.
To begin with, Vivo Apex 2019 concept phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC clubbed with 12GB of RAM and is available in 256GB and 512GB storage options. Since it has the latest chipset by Qualcomm, the device has support for 5G and comes with a MagPort, which is a magnetic connector on the smartphone’s back panel that can be used for charging and data transfer.
Vivo Apex 2019 features a 6.39-inch AMOLED display that comes with the piezoelectric transducer to emit sound. So, much like Vivo NEX, the smartphone‘s screen doubles as a speaker too. It is worth noticing that no selfie camera is visible on the front panel of the newly unveil concept phone.
However, there is a key highlight we must mention: Vivo Apex 2019 concept phone has Full-Display Fingerprint Scanning. This means that you can touch anywhere on the smartphone’s display and it will unlock. We should mention that no other company has done this so far and this makes Vivo Apex 2019 concept phone’s fingerprint sensor the most advanced one yet.
The Vivo Apex 2019 concept phone has a combination of capacitive touch and pressure-sensing that replaces the physical power and volume rocker buttons placed on the side edges of the smartphone. The device sports a 12MP+13MP dual rear cameras coupled with an LED flash. As of now, there is no word on the selfie camera of the device, so we will have to wait until we find out more about it. We would also have to wait to know about the device’s IP rating and if it has support for wireless charging.
We should also mention that since this is a concept phone, certain changes may be made to it before it is launched commercially. We are looking forward to learning more about the Vivo Apex 2019 concept phone at the MWC 2019, that is scheduled to begin on February 25.

While most smartphone companies are trying to make their devices as bezel-less as possible, Chinese technology company Meizu has announced the world’s first portless, ‘holeless’ smartphone – Meizu Zero. But then we have to admit one thing: There were a number of signs that should have had us prepared for this. Firstly, the 3.5mm headphone jack is close to becoming extinct. Secondly, wireless charging is increasingly becoming popular and is even preferred by a number of people. Another very prominent sign was that buttons on most mobile phones have been replaced with software UI. Meizu Zero takes this trend to a new level by being completely holeless. Read on and find out everything that you should know about the Meizu Zero smartphone:
In This Article
Why is it called holeless?
Meizu Zero is being marketed at the ‘world’s first holeless phone’ as it comes without ports, speaker holes, buttons. The device doesn’t even have a SIM-card slot. Meizu Zero’s body is basically a slab made of ceramic that is nearly seamless. We call it nearly seamless because the smartphone has a camera bump on its back panel that is slightly protruding. We should also mention that Meizu Zero has microphone holes on its bottom edge.
Its display may remind you of Samsung Galaxy S9
One thing about Meizu Zero that we found to be very similar to Samsung Galaxy S9 is its display. The smartphone has a 5.99-inch AMOLED display that has a chin that looks a lot like the one we saw on Samsung’s flagship device. It also has a bezel on the top instead of the notch, much like Galaxy S9. We should point out that Meizu Zero has a fingerprint scanner embedded on its display.
How does it manage the sound?
The display of Meizu Zero comes with the company’s ‘mSound 2.0’ technology that is supposed to enable it to function as a speaker. This reminds us of the linear vibrator technology that we saw on Vivo NEX last year. For those unaware, in Vivo NEX, the sound was transmitted through the phone and relayed via the screen.
What about charging?
Needless to say, Meizu Zero can only be charged wirelessly. However, it is worth noticing that the smartphone has support for a speed of up to 18W through its ‘Super mCharge Wireless’ technology. This surpasses Apple’s 7.5W and Samsung’s 9W speeds.
How do you turn the phone on or adjust the volume without buttons?
Meizu Zero uses the haptic feedback system to offer virtual buttons on the side edge that replace the physical power and volume rocker keys. These can be used to turn the smartphone on or off and to adjust the volume of the device.
You would have to use e-SIM technology in Meizu Zero
As we mentioned earlier, Meizu Zero does not have a SIM card slot at all. So, users will have to use an e-SIM instead of a physical SIM card if they are interested in buying the smartphone.
Other key specifications
The Chinese smartphone brand has not shed much light on the specifications of the upcoming device. However, it did reveal that Meizu Zero will be powered by last year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor.
What about the IP rating?
If you are an interested buyer, you would be happy to know that Meizu Zero will come with an IP68 rating. This means that Meizu Zero will be waterproof and dustproof.
When can we expect other details?
Although as of now, there is no word on the rest of the specifications or the pricing of the smartphone, we can expect to hear more about it at Mobile World Congress that is scheduled to begin on February 25.

South Korean technology company, LG Electronics has announced that it will be launching its latest flagship smartphone that will come with a new user interface on the eve of Mobile World Congress 2019. For those unaware, the Mobile World Congress, or MWC, is scheduled to take place in Barcelona February 25 onwards and it will go on till February 28. And LG will be unveiling its LG G8 ThinQ smartphone on February 24 in Barcelona itself.
Global technology media has reported that the company has sent them a 10-second video invitation that shows a hand making sweeping motions above a white piece of paper only to finally reveal the message ‘Goodbye Touch’. According to Yonhap news agency, this points towards the fact that LG’s new user interface will enable users to operate its upcoming smartphone without physically touching it.
From what we can guess, users will be able to control LG‘s new smartphone via gestures. Although LG hasn’t mentioned a specific device’s name in the video, according to the company’s officials the G7 ThinQ smartphone’s successor will be named LG G8 ThinQ.
According to a previous report, the South Korean technology company is expected to unveil a dual connected display screen at the upcoming Mobile World Congress. With this, it will become a part of the race of technology companies that have been targeting the premium smartphone market with new form factors.
We should also mention that the company will be facing some competition from its local rival, Samsung Electronics, which has hinted that it may take wraps off its much-anticipated foldable phone on its February 20 event. Chinese smartphone brand Huawei is also expected to unveil a similar device soon.
Coming back to LG’s plans, officials from the company have also said that the smartphone maker plans to unveil its 5G-enabled devices during its event.
We should mention that LG has been working to gain back its position in the smartphone market because the company’s mobile division has been posting losses for almost two years now. While the premium segment of the smartphone market is dominated by Apple and Samsung, various Chinese players have captured the budget and mid-range segment. Amid this, it has been rather difficult for LG to maintain its stand in the smartphone market.

Out of all of them, the top ten pictures would be selected and featured on billboards in selected cities, Apple retail stores and online. Winners will be announced on February 26, 2019. Note that if you are sending pictures on Twitter or Instagram, you need to put #ShotOniPhone. In case you are sending them via Weibo to Apple, then use the hashtag #ShotOniPhone#.
Also, people need to ensure that they specify the iPhone model in the caption, with which they have clicked their best shot. High-resolution images can be sent to Apple at [email protected] with the file format ‘firstname_lastname_iphonemodel’. Users can send either edited photos or non-edited photos. Both are acceptable in the challenge. There are going to be eleven-number panel of judges including well-known photographers, visual artists from around the world. The submissions for the challenge will reportedly begin at 12:01 AM PST on January 22, 2019 and end on February 7, 2019 at 11:59PM PST.
The eligibility for this challenge is that participants should be at least 18 years of age. However, Apple employees and their immediate families cannot participate in the challenge. Another major information about Apple, that has surfaced lately, is that the Cupertino-based-tech giant is planning to get rid of LCD screen for the next line-up of iPhone models. Japan Display, that is Apple’s supplier is very stressed with this decision. We can say that the decision made by Apple was rather unexpected, considering that it has been using LCD display for a long time. They will soon move to OLED displays.
To recall, since Apple introduced its iPhones back in 2007, it has been using Liquid Crystal Display on them. However, many including Apple have substituted LCD for OLED displays because they are cheaper. These models include Apple iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max.

Lenovo-owned Motorola has finally rolled out the latest Android update to its flagship smartphone, Moto Z3. With Google’s Android Pie update, a number of improvements have come to the Moto Z3 smartphone including enhancement in performance, extended battery life, adaptive brightness controls improvements in security to fight malware, anti-phishing tools and more.
In addition to all these, the Android Pie update gets a feature to Moto Z3 smartphone that no other devices in the market have. The update enables Motorola‘s Moto Z3 smartphone to support 5G network. However, we should mention that the device can only do this via a Moto Mod.
It is worth noticing that Motorola has built a 5G Moto Mod in collaboration with American chipmaker Qualcomm. Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon X50 modem and millimetre wave components have been used in the Moto Mod that enables 5G network on the Moto Z3.
On adding the 5G Moto Mod, Moto Z3 users will be to enjoy internet speed of up to 5Gbps to 10Gbps. In other words, this means that 4K resolution multimedia content that is 8GB or more in size will be downloaded on the smartphone within seconds. However, it is worth mentioning that as of now, this feature will only be available in the United States and that too for those who have subscribed to Verizon. The Lenovo-owned smartphone maker has tied up with Verizon to provide 5G network to its customers. With 5G, users will be able to live-stream 4K content, use connected home devices, and enjoy AR and VR gaming faster than they ever did before.
If you have a Moto Z3, and you have received a notification message for the update, you can follow these steps to install it:
Click on ‘Download and install’.
Once the software is installed, a message will prompt asking you to restart your device. Press ‘Restart now’.
After this, your smartphone will take a few minutes to restart, but once it does, it will have the updated software.
However, in case you have not as yet received a notification for the Android Pie update, you can follow these steps to install the update manually:
Go to the Settings of your smartphone.
Press on ‘System’.
Select the option of ‘System updates’. Here, you will see the latest update.
Click on ‘Download and install’.
After the software is downloaded, you will be asked to restart your smartphone. Select ‘Restart now’.
It was reported last month that Samsung would be launching a cryptocurrency service with its Galaxy S10 model. Now, there are several live images leaked online that showcase a Samsung Blockchain KeyStore app. The cryptocurrency service was divided into two parts, that is, a cold wallet for saving digital currencies, public and private keys, and signing private keys for transactions. Also, there was reportedly an availability of a crypto wallet in order to view account information, transfers and transaction history.
According to the Samsung Galaxy S10 leaked pictures, the smartphone is going to have a Blockchain KeyStore app running on it. The app is also expected to let users import an existing wallet and at the same time, create a new one. The support for cryptocurrency is going to be Ethereum, however it is only going to have support for Bitcoin, Ethereum-derived token ER20 and Bitcoin Cash during the launch. In the Samsung Galaxy S10, if you go to settings>biometrics and security, you are going to find a relevant menu item for Blockchain KeyStore.
One observation on the basis of which it can be ascertained that the device is the Galaxy S10 and not the Galaxy S10+ is how the camera looks and is placed. There are minimal bezels due to which there is a larger screen space. This, users might find very appealing. A few days ago, there were a few leaked renders that showed that the Samsung Galaxy S10 is going to have a fingerprint scanner as its ‘unlock option’. There was another leak by TuttoAndroid two-to-three days ago that tipped about the storage of the Samsung Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10 Lite and the Galaxy S10+.
The Samsung Galaxy S10 will come in 6GB RAM along with 12GB on-board storage and 8GB RAM along with 512GB on-board storage. The Samsung Galaxy S10+ will again have 6GB and 8GB RAM variants that will come with 128GB and 512GB internal storage respectively. Finally, the Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite, unlike the other two will come with a single 6GB RAM variant with an internal storage of 128GB.

This year, we are expecting to see foldable phones from a number of technology companies including Samsung, Motorola, and LG. And given that most major smartphone makers are jumping on the foldables bandwagon, we can’t really expect Xiaomi to be left behind. A few weeks back, renowned tipster Evan Blass had tweeted a short video of the foldable device by Xiaomi in use. And now, Xiaomi itself has given us a look at the upcoming phone.
As of now, the marketing name of Xiaomi‘s foldable phone has not been revealed, but considering that the device is still a prototype, it is fully acceptable. Wang Teng Thomas, the Head of Product Development at Xiaomi took to Weibo to speak about the upcoming foldable smartphone. Thomas posted a video of the device and said that the company is trying to sort out some issues related to the foldable phone. In the video, he is first seen using the device as a tablet and then folds it into a phone.
It is worth noticing that Xiaomi’s foldable phone folds outwards twice. So there is reportedly a fold on each side. Basically, when the device is folded into a phone, it is literally all screen. Thomas also added in his post that making a foldable phone that folds outwards is more difficult in comparison to the one that folds inwards. And considering that Xiaomi’s phone folds outwards twice, it leads to double the number of complications.
That’s not all. When a follower asked him what kind of issues was the Chinese smartphone brand facing with its upcoming device, Thomas replied that the company is battling with issues that are related to the durability of the foldable phone. We should mention that considering that the smartphone is all screen, it has very few possibilities of surviving any drops.

And according to Thomas, Xiaomi hasn’t found a way to tackle this issue yet. However, this is just one among the many issues that they need to solve before the foldable phone is launched and is made commercially available for customers.
Speaking about the video posted by tipster Evan Blass, it shows Xiaomi’s foldable tablet cum phone being used by someone who them folds the screen on the right to turn it into a smaller device. It also showed that the UI of the device quickly adapts to the change. You can watch the leaked video and read about some speculated specifications of the upcoming device here.

A few months back, Huawei launched its Mate 20 Pro smartphone that comes with reverse wireless charging. Basically, the feature enables users to place another smartphone or device that has support for wireless charging on the back panel of the Mate 20 Pro and it will begin charging. Huawei Mate 20 Pro actually shares some of the juice from its 4,200mAh battery to the device kept on top of its back panel. And now, we may get to see the same feature in Samsung‘s upcoming flagship smartphones.
According to technology news website TechTastic, smartphones from the Samsung Galaxy S10 series will come with the reverse wireless charging. The report also says that the company will be calling this feature as PowerShare. However, as of now, there is no clarity on whether the Samsung Galaxy S10E, which is the name being used for the ‘Lite’ version of the smartphone, will have this feature.
The Dutch news website has also shared an image that seems to be taken at a demo booth. In the photo, we can see a controller with different buttons that play videos of various features of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S10 smartphone.
The first button on the image plays the video advertisement of the Samsung Galaxy S10 smartphone, the second one plays a video about the device‘s display, the third one plays a video that talks about the handset’s in-display fingerprint scanner, and the fourth one about the triple rear camera setup that the phone sports. And that last button that can be seen is for the PowerShare reverse charging wireless feature.

We should mention that although Huawei was the first to incorporate this technology, Mate 20 Pro‘s reverse charging feature is reportedly very slow and has been termed by some media reports as a “waste of time”. We are hoping that Samsung implements this technology better.
The company recently confirmed that it is holding a Galaxy Unpacked event on February 20, ahead of Mobile World Congress 2019. The South Korean technology giant is expected to launch its upcoming flagship devices at the event. Samsung recently also hinted that it will be launching its much-talked-about foldable phone at the same event.

Although one among the prominent trends of the smartphone industry was to go bezel-less in 2018, a more subtle trend that emerged was going towards being ‘portless’. There are a number of signs that point towards this: The headphone jacks are dying, the microUSB port is nearly extinct, and software UIs have replaced the physical buttons on almost every device. And now, Chinese smartphone brand Meizu has announced ‘the world’s first holeless phone’. Yes, you read that right.
The new Meizu Zero comes with any ports, buttons, or holes on its exterior body. According to the Chinese smartphone maker, the Meizu Zero smartphone has “no buttons, no speakers’ holes, no SIM card slot, no charging port.” So, the body of the smartphone is basically a slab made of ceramic that has a slightly protruding camera bump on its back panel and microphone holes on the bottom.
The newly announced device is being marketed as the “world’s first holeless phone”, and Meizu has given a few details about how exactly the smartphone works without having any ports or buttons or holes and has shed light on a few specifications too.
The smartphone comes with a 5.99-inch AMOLED display that has a chin exactly like that of Samsung Galaxy S9, and sports a bezel on the top instead of the notch. Following the current trend, Meizu Zero sports an in-display fingerprint scanner and comes with the company’s ‘mSound 2.0’ technology that enables it to function as a speaker.
As expected, charging on the Meizu Zero is completely wireless and the company has promised the speed of up to 18W through its ‘Super mCharge Wireless’ technology. We should mention that this means that the technology would surpass Apple’s 7.5W and Samsung’s 9W speeds.
Although there are no buttons on the Meizu Zero, the smartphone brand uses the haptic feedback system to offer virtual buttons on the side edge that can be used to turn the smartphone on or off and to adjust the volume. As for the SIM card, customers of the smartphone would have to use an e-SIM instead of a physical SIM card. The device comes with an IP68 rating and is hence waterproof and dustproof.
Apart from this, all that we know as of now is that Meizu Zero will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 processor. There’s no other word on the specifications of the device. As of now, even the pricing or release date has not been announced, however, we do expect to hear more about it at the upcoming Mobile World Congress that will be held in Barcelona next month.

Chinese smartphone brand Vivo last year launched its NEX smartphone that comes with a pop-up selfie camera. And now, a report has surfaced online that suggests that the company will be getting this feature in a mid-premium V series smartphone that it is set to launch next month. According to BGR.in, Vivo will be launching the successor of its V11 Pro smartphone next month in India and the upcoming device will sport a pop-up selfie camera.
When the company got in this technology with its Vivo NEX smartphone last year, it was really appreciated as it added on to the futuristic look and feel of the smartphone. Also, because the Vivo NEX had a pop-up selfie camera, it could offer its users a full-screen experience.
Although the report says that the technology will now be seen in Vivo V11 Pro‘s successor, it added that the marketing name of the device has not been finalised yet. We should mention that Nipun Marya, Vivo India’s Director for Brand Strategy had previously said that the Chinese smartphone brand will be launching the Vivo V11 Pro successor in the first half of 2019.
The report also added that according to people who are familiar with the matter, the device will be launching in India next month. However, much like the marketing name of Vivo V11 Pro’s successor, the launch details and the specifications of the smartphone are not known as of now.
To recall, Vivo V11 Pro was launched in India in September 2018 at a price tag of Rs 25,990. Although the marketing name of the upcoming smartphone has not been disclosed yet, we should point out that Vivo usually goes for odd numbers when it comes to smartphone names. So, while reports suggest that Vivo would be naming the device as V12 Pro, we would not be surprised to see it being named as V13 Pro or V15 Pro. It is also worth noticing that Vivo launched the V9 mobile in the first half of 2018 and the V11 Pro in the second half of the year.
A previous report also suggested that Vivo V11 Pro’s successor will be priced between Rs 20,000 and Rs 30,000 in India and will be available via online as well as offline channels.

Just a few days are left for the January 28-launch of Samsung Galaxy M series smartphones. And the company has also hinted that it will be launching two smartphones from the series that day. What’s even better is that Samsung has assured that the two smartphones that will be launched – Galaxy M10 and Galaxy M20 – will be receiving the Android Pie update.
According to the company’s roadmap in the Samsung Members app suggests that the Galaxy M10 and Galaxy M20 smartphones will be getting the Android Pie update in future. But then, this also goes to show that the two devices will be launched next week with an older version of Android. The two smartphones were first spotted on Members app by SamMobile.
It has been reported that Samsung Galaxy M10 and Galaxy M20 will be getting the Android Pie update in August this year. However, we should mention that this basically means that the two smartphones would get the update after Google unveils Android Q, and ideally they should be launched with the latest Android version. However, since the devices haven’t launched till now, the date of them getting the Android Pie update is only tentative and could definitely change.
But then, the fact that Galaxy M10 and Galaxy M20 showed up on the Members app just adds more weight to the reports that they are being launched next week. A report by news agency IANS claims that Samsung Galaxy M10 and Galaxy M20 will be priced at Rs 7,990, and Rs 10,990 respectively. However, another report by 91mobiles says that while Samsung Galaxy M10 will be priced at Rs 8,999, Galaxy M20 will bear a price tag of Rs 12,999. It has also been said that they will be available for purchase on Amazon India’s website starting February 5.
The smartphones will come with the Infinity-V display and will have ‘massive’ batteries. While Samsung Galaxy M10 will have a 3,500mAh battery, Galaxy M20 will house a 5,000mAh battery. Samsung has also said that it will be manufacturing the smartphones in its Noida facility, which is the world’s biggest smartphone manufacturing unit.

If there’s one thing that gives Nokia smartphones have is an edge over the others, is the fact that they get timely software updates. All Nokia smartphones launched by HMD Global are a part of Google’s Android One program and have always been one of the first to get the latest software updates. We can say that Nokia 8 Sirocco was an exception to this, as it got the Android Pie update a little late, but it was still ahead of many smartphones from other makers.
While some Nokia smartphones have already got the Android Pie update, the company has just shed some light on when the rest of its devices will be getting updated. Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer at HMD Global has just released the company’s Android Pie roadmap for its Nokia smartphones that haven’t got the latest update yet.
According to the roadmap that has been released by HMD Global’s Sarvikas, Nokia 5 and Nokia 3.1 Plus smartphones will be getting the Android Pie update by the end of this month. This is a very big deal considering that both the smartphones lie in the budget segment.
To recall, Nokia 3.1 Plus features a 6-inch full-screen HD+ display, is powered by Helio P22 processor clubbed with 3GB of RAM and houses a 3,500mAh battery. The device was launched in October 2018.
Speaking of Nokia 5, it was launched earlier than Nokia 3.1 Plus in July 2017 and it is less capable when the two are compared. The smartphone has a 5.2-inch HD display with larger bezels and capacitive buttons than the ones on Nokia 3.1 Plus and it is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC clubbed with 3GB of RAM. Nokia 5 houses a 3,000mAh battery.
It is particularly impressive to see Nokia 5 get the Android Pie update considering its launch date. Otherwise, rarely do dated devices with these specifications get the latest Android update.
That’s not all. It has also been announced that Nokia 6, Nokia 5.1, Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 2.1 will also be getting the Android Pie update in Q1 2019 itself. And Nokia 3 and Nokia 1 will get the update in Q2.
