With the introduction of October 2020 security patch, the OxygenOS Open Beta 9 has been rolled out for OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro smartphones. According to the official OnePlus Forums, the full changelog has revealed the following details:

OnePlus further notified that this is beta software. As per the official OnePlus Forums, “These builds are sometimes not as stable as our official OTAs generally are. By installing this update, you accept the potential risks. For those who were on previous versions for OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro, we appreciate your active feedback and for reaching out to us.”
The smartphone maker also added that with the help of OnePlus fans, the company has been able to better optimize and improve several key areas.
Furthermore, OnePlus added that if the users have already flashed an Open Beta (you are currently running the latest Open Beta), they will receive this new build as an OTA.
In case the OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro users are not running open beta software and would like to, one can refer to the flashing instructions and the full ROM on the downloads page. Once you migrate to the Beta path, you will continue to receive Open Beta OTAs. You will no longer receive the regular Official Stable OTAs. Moving back to the Official OTA path from the Beta path will require a full install and clean flash.

It’s been a year since the WhatsApp disappearing feature has been under testing. Soon this functionality will be rolled out to the masses as it has now been spotted on the FAQ page for the social media app. First spotted last year when it came in the news after suggested by beta testers. This feature will let you decide if and when you want the messages to be automatically deleted and for how long it stays in someone’s inbox.The disappearing messages feature was first spotted by WABetaInfo on the company’s website FAQ page that tells how the functionality works. Although this feature is not available for the users but this update indicated that soon it will be rolled out to the user’s devices. According to WhatsApp, the disappearing messages feature will automatically vanish a message after seven days whether it is being sent to an individual or a group chat. Actually, this feature is quite different from the feature that was spotted in beta testers last year letting them opt for the time duration of a day, a month, a year, or the option to disable this option.But as per the FAQ page, new messages sent in the individual or group chat will disappear after seven days. The most recent selection controls all messages in the chat. This setting won’t affect messages you previously sent or received in the chat. In an individual chat, either user can turn disappearing messages on or off. In a group chat, only group admins can turn disappearing messages on or off.Moreover, the message will still vanish if the user doesn’t open WhatsApp in the seven-day period however the preview of the message might still be displayed in notifications until WhatsApp is opened. Also if the disappearing message is forwarded to other chats with this feature disable it won’t disappear in the forwarded chat. In addition to this if one has taken a backup before a message disappears, the disappearing message will be included in the backup but will disappear as soon as the chats are restored from the backup.WhatsApp also notes that the disappearing messages feature should only be used with trusted individuals. Furthermore, it was revealed that AR content realistically passes behind and in front of people in the real world, making AR experiences more immersive while also enabling green screen-style effects in almost any environment. Depth estimation improves on iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPad Pro in all apps built with ARKit, without any code changes.
Arkit 4 also helps detect up to 100 images at a time and get an automatic estimate of the physical size of the object in the image. 3D object detection is more robust, as objects are better recognized in complex environments. With the penetration of online education owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, artificial intelligence-based teachers could soon take the front stage. According to International Journal of Human-Computer Interaction, researchers at the University of Central Florida’s Nicholson School of Communication and Media are now working to understand student perceptions of these AI-enabled teachers. What has been discovered up until now is that AI teaching assistant needs to be effective and easy to talk to.
As per Jihyun Kim, an associate professor in the school and lead author of the study, engineers and computer scientists can design AI-teachers to easily integrate into the education experience by understanding how students relate to them.
In order to use machine teachers effectively, Kim said, “We need to understand students’ perceptions toward machine teachers, their learning experiences with them and more. This line of research is needed to design effective machine teachers that can actually facilitate positive learning experiences.”
The researchers further believe that AI teaching assistants can help ease a teacher’s workload, such as by responding to commonly asked questions by students. These questions, which often appear each semester and become numerous in online classes with hundreds of students, can become a large task for a teacher. The quick delivery of answers also helps students.
With an aim to provide example, the researchers had created an AI teaching assistant named Jill Watson at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Jill was fed the thousands of questions and answers commonly asked in the researcher’s online class that he’d taught over the years. With some additional learning and tweaks, Jill was eventually able to answer the students’ commonly asked questions accurately without any human assistance as if she was one of the researcher’s human teaching assistants.
The University of Central Florida’s researchers then asked respondents to read a news article about an AI-teaching assistant used in higher education, and then they surveyed the students’ perceptions of the technology. Kim added that it was discovered that that students were most likely to accept an AI teacher that was useful and was easy to communicate with points to the importance of having an effective AI-system.
“I hope our research findings help us find an effective way to incorporate AI agents into education,” said Kim. It is believed that by adopting an AI agent as an assistant for a simple and repetitive task, teachers would be able to spend more time doing things such as meeting with students and developing teaching strategies that will help student learn and understand lessons easily.

In what seems to measure to step up its competition against Zoom, Google has now enabled its Meet users to replace their background with an image in Google Meet. The users can either select Google’s hand-picked images that comprises of office spaces, landscapes, and abstract backgrounds, or upload their own image. Currently, this feature works on ChromeOS and on the Chrome browser on Windows and Mac desktop devices. However, the support on Meet mobile apps will be introduced in days ahead.
Custom backgrounds not only help users hide their surroundings, but can even enable them to showcase their personality. “We recently launched the ability to filter out disruptive background noise and blur your background in Google Meet. Together, these features reduce audio and visual distractions, and help ensure more productive meetings.
According to Google Workspace team, “There will be no admin control for this feature. Admin controls to select which organizational units can use custom and preset backgrounds for meetings they organize will be introduced later this year.”
Wondering how to change your background on Google Meet if you are using a computer? Well, the tech giant has revealed, “Users who join the video call while not logged into a Google account and users which need to knock to get admitted, can only change their background once in the video call. Users who join a G Suite for Education video call can’t select their own background images.”

And to change the background on an Android device during a video call, simply tap the screen to see the self-view. Once self-view is visible, tap Blur your background to turn blur on and off. It must be noted that blurring your background may increase your battery usage. You may want to turn it off if your battery is low.

It is Intel’s first Xe-based discrete graphics processing unit (GPU) as part of the company’s strategy to enter the discrete graphics market. Samsung has announced the launch of SmartThings Find that uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and ultra-wideband (UWB) technologies to help one quickly and easily find select Galaxy smartphones, tablets, smartwatches and earbuds. That’s because SmartThings users can now opt in to securely use their Galaxy smartphone or tablet to help others locate their lost devices.
Samsung revealed that SmartThings Find produces a BLE signal that can be received by other devices once a device has been offline for 30 minutes. The company further added,“If you report your device as lost via SmartThings Find, any nearby Galaxy smartphone or tablet that has opted into helping find misplaced devices can alert the Samsung server about its location, which will in turn notify you. All SmartThings Find user data is encrypted and securely protected, ensuring that the device’s location is not revealed to anyone except its owner.”
The South Korea-based tech giant stated that locating your missing device is a breeze with integrated map directions and the ability to “ring” a lost device to find it more quickly. So when you misplace a device, you can simply open SmartThings Find on your smartphone or tablet and select the device you want to locate. Then, your smartphone will reveal you the exact location of your device on a map. And as you reach close to your device, you can select to either have your device “ring” or locate it using the AR-based Search Nearby function.

Owing to strong sales on online platforms, a research by Counterpoint’s Market Monitor service has revealed that India’s smartphone shipments grew 9 percent YoY to reach over 53 million units in Q3 2020. Samsung overtook Xiaomi to gain the top spot after two years with 32 percent YoY growth during the quarter under review. This strong performance in the pre-COVID levels in Q3 2020 was the result of Samsung’s aggressive push in online channels, with highest ever online contribution within its portfolio.
On the other hand, Xiaomi dropped to second spot for the first time since Q3 2018 with 4 percent YoY decline during the quarter under review. However, Xiaomi will come back strongly in the coming quarter with ramped-up manufacturing, aggressive product strategy and growing offline presence.
The third position was bagged by Vivo with a 4 percent growth YoY in Q3. Mind you! The growth was driven by strong demand for its Y-series models in offline channels. Besides this, Vivo also forayed into the premium market by launching the X50 series along with a gimbal camera in Q3 2020.
In the premium segment (>INR 30,000 ~$400) category, Apple left behind OnePlus owing to strong demand for its iPhone SE 2020 and the iPhone 11. It is likely that the iPhone 12 will further enhance its position in the coming quarter.
As far as affordable premium segment (INR 30,000-INR 45,000 ~ $400-$600) is concerned, OnePlus remained the top brand owing to the sales of OnePlus 8. This handset re-entered the upper mid-tier (Rs 20,000 – Rs 30,000 ~ $270-$400) with its Nord series and the OnePlus Nord became the best-selling model within the segment in the initial quarter of launch.
The smartphone players are now putting more emphasis on online channels due to the COVID-19 situation. Furthermore, offline-centric brands like vivo, OPPO and Itel are increasing their online presence due as more and more consumer are adopting online shopping. The smartphone brands are also trying to leverage new opportunities in offline channels in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. For eg: Xiaomi launched ‘Mi store on Wheels’. It is believed that this move by the Indian government will impact the cost of production since displays are majorly imported. Tencent took to Facebook to announce the termination of all service and access for users in India to PUBG MOBILE Nordic Map: Livik and PUBG MOBILE Lite from October 30. The Facebook post reads, “Dear Fans, To comply with the interim order of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology dated September 2, 2020, Tencent Games will terminate all service and access for users in India to PUBG MOBILE Nordic Map: Livik and PUBG MOBILE Lite (together, “PUBG Mobile”) on October 30, 2020.”Furthermore, the company while returning its publishing rights PUBG said, “The rights to publish PUBG MOBILE in India will be returned to the owner of the PUBG intellectual property. All users’ gameplay information is processed in a transparent manner as disclosed in our privacy policy.
