Due to a surge in COVID-19 cases in India, Asus Zenfone 8 Series launch was deferred. However, the company still went ahead with the global launch on May 12. The series includes two devices Asus Zenfone 8 Flip and Zenfone 8. Now according to a new update, the company has started teasing smartphones in India. Also, a dedicated page has been created that shows all the key highlights of the upcoming phones. Apart from this, the company has not revealed the branding of the devices which somehow put a stamp on a leaked Google Play supported devices listing suggesting to be called Asus 8Z and Asus 8Z Flip.  According to the dedicated page on the Asus India website, both  Asus 8Z and Asus 8Z Flip will be arriving in India soon. The ‘Notify Me’ button on the landing page has also gone live. It should be noted that the phone will not launch in India with the same branding instead it will drop Zen from its brand due to trademark issues in the country. In 2019 the Taiwan based company was issued an order by the Delhi High Court from selling and advertising smartphones and accessories under the ‘Zen’ trademark. As per the Delhi High Court, the ‘Zen’ and ‘ZenMobile’ fall under the Trade Marks Act, 1999. So the company was restrained from selling directly or indirectly mobile phones, accessories and any other related products or goods that fall under the trademark Zen, Zenfone or any identical trademarks. This correlates with the recently leaked Google Play supported devices listing. According to the listing, the Asus Zenone 8 with model code I006D has been codenamed as “ASUS 8Z”. On the other hand, ZenFone 8 Flip has been listed as its original name but the device is most likely to come with an ASUS 8Z Flip branding in India. To recall, Asus Zenfone 8 Flip was launched at €799 for the 8GB RAM with 256GB of storage that translates to Rs 71,105. This feature will tell you more about fake news and from where the information has originated.  Google via its blog post said, “next to most results on Google, you’ll begin to see a menu icon that you can tap to learn more about the result or feature and where the information is coming from. With this additional context, you can make a more informed decision about the sites you may want to visit and what results will be most useful for you.” search results page opening result panel The “About this Result” in Search will show a description of the website from Wikipedia, which provides free, reliable information about tens of millions of sites on the web. The description provided here is said to be the most up-to-date verified and sourced information available on Wikipedia about the site. While those who are unaware of Wikipedia that additional information can give you context or peace of mind, especially if you’re looking for something important, like health or financial information. “If a website doesn’t have a Wikipedia description, we’ll show you additional context that may be available, such as when Google first indexed the site,” the company added. In addition to this users will also be provided with to organize different types of information, like job listings or local business listings. A description of how Google sources that information from sites on the web, or from businesses themselves, and presents it in a helpful format will also be shown. Google services to return to Huawei’s former sub-brand Honor: Confirmed via Twitter
Google suspended its business with Huawei in 2019. Since then the company and its former sub-brand Honor has not received any new Android updates. This move was taken by the tech firm following the US government, which had put the Chinese company on the trade blacklist. This included the transfer of hardware, software, and technical services with the company except for the open-source licencing. Honor has confirmed via Twitter that Google services are coming back to Honor phones, in a new development.  Honor 50 series is set to launch in the market soon. With the debut of the fresh smartphone series, the company has confirmed that Google Services will proceed with the Honor 50 series. The company’s Germany page on Twitter has confirmed the information in which Honor Germany has responded to a query raised by a fan to which the company has made it official that Google’s apps and services will be taken up again with the upcoming smartphones. In May 2019 Alphabet Inc’s Google had to cut the Android licence of Huawei and therefore was blocked from using the major products and services from Google Play Store including Gmail and YouTube. The move came after the US government and Donald Trump asked to blacklist Huawei around the world. As a result, the Chinese company had to bear a lot of damage as then the support of Android updates was affected for its lined up smartphones. Huawei was also barred from using the public version of Android and was not able to access proprietary apps and services from Google which included Gmail, YouTube, Google Play Store and so on. It should also be noted that due to huge losses Huawei was forced to sell Honor to a consortium of Chinese companies. With the latest update, the Honor 50 series phones will carry Magic UI on top of Android OS. This step came with the company’s new relationship building with Qualcomm, Intel and other tech firms. Honor 50 is teased to equip Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 888 SoC. Last week was quite interesting in the world of tech. Google I/O made many important announcements for Android 12, maps, WearOS, LaMDA and many more. Besides this, the Android version of Clubhouse arrived in India and the beta download is now available on Google Play Store. Poco M3 Pro, Infinix Hot 10S and many more devices launched in India. And finally, the pre-registrations for the  PUBG Mobile India avatar BattleGrounds India is live on Google Play Store. As the fresh new week kickstarts OPPO, OnePlus and Lenovo are going to make some major announcements. So let’s see which products are scheduled to launch this week.  OnePlus TV 40Y1 OnePlus is all set to launch its 40-inch TV in India today. The company has scheduled to launch the OnePlus TV 40Y1. The launch will begin at 12 noon and is likely to be available via Flipkart and the company’s official website. It should be noted that the company’s Y-series of televisions already include two models in India called the OnePlus TV 32Y1 and OnePlus TV 43Y1. The price of the Televisions will fall between 20-25K. Both the models are expected to be cheaper than the 43-inch model, which comes at Rs 26,999.

In terms of specs, the OnePlus TV 40Y1 will be powered by an unspecified 64-bit processor and will run Android TV 9-based OxygenPlay. The TV will be featuring a bezel-less design having a 40-inch full-HD display with 1,920×1,080 pixels of resolution. The display will be offering a 93 percent coverage of DCI-P3 colour gamut and Gamma Engine picture enhancer. In addition to this, there will be two 20W speakers with Dolby Audio support. On the connectivity front, there will be Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth v5, Ethernet port, RF connection input, two HDMI ports, AV In, digital audio output, and two USB ports.  iQOO Neo5 Vitality Edition  Today Vivo-owned iQOO will be launching a new smartphone iQOO Neo5 Vitality Edition powered by the Snapdragon 870 chipset. The device will debut in China and is a toned-down variant of iQOO Neo5 that was launched in March this year. The phone will come with an LCD panel with a higher 144Hz refresh rate instead of an AMOLED display. The smartphone will include a punch hole at the top right corner of the screen and will also support 44W fast charging tech. Tecno Spark 7 Pro  Transsion Holding will be launching Tecno Spark 7 Pro in India on May 25 that is tomorrow. The device has already been launched in other markets and will be coming to India now. The regular variant has already made its entry in the country last month. The upcoming phone runs  HiOS 7.5 based on Android 11 and features a 6.6-inch HD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate support. The device is powered by MediaTek Helio G80 SoC and equips a triple rear camera setup. The phone packs a 5,000mAh battery and a fingerprint scanner on the back.   Lenovo Tablets  The Chinese tech giant Lenovo is also going to unveil its new range of tablets on Tuesday, which is May 25. In addition to this, the company will also launch a new Legion gaming laptop. There will be three tablets namely Xiaoxin Pad Pro 2021, Xiaoxin Pad Plus and YOGA Pad Pro. The Lenovo Xiaoxin Pad Pro 2021 is said to feature an OLED display with 2,560 x 1,600 resolution and 90Hz refresh rate support. The tab will run Android 11 and will be powered by Snapdragon 870 processor. Whereas Xiaoxin Pad Plus will equip a Snapdragon 750G processor and on the other hand YOGA Pad Pro, will come with functionality that will allow it to be used as a secondary display for a connected device. OPPO Reno6 series Oppo Reno 6 Series is set to launch on May 27 in China. The lineup will include Oppo Reno 6, the Oppo Reno 6 Pro and  Oppo Reno 6 Pro+. As per the leaked listing, the standard model will feature a 6.55-inch full-HD+ display with 90Hz refresh rate support. For the optics, it might include a triple rear camera setup that will include a 64-megapixel primary sensor.

OnePlus extended warranty across all its product portfolio in India till June 30 amid coronavirus lockdown
The Chinese smartphone company OnePlus today announced the warranty extension on all its products in view of the coronavirus crisis. The company is the latest tech firm to join the warranty extension bandwagon after Poco, Xiaomi, Vivo, Transsion Holdings and Oppo. According to the company, there will be a free extended warranty on all its smartphones as well as accessories until June 30. OnePlus took to its official forum to announce that it will extend the warranty till June 30 amidst the ongoing COVID-19 crisis in India. According to the blog post, the company has taken some action keeping in mind the health and safety of its employees, customers, community members, and partners during the current unforeseen circumstances. In order to meet customers’ most urgent needs, OnePlus has promised to provide uninterrupted support by an extended warranty on their products till June 30 in view of the lockdown situation in the country to combat the spread of coronavirus.  The Blog post reads, “To continue providing uninterrupted support during this period, we have extended the warranty for all our products to 30th June 2021 for those with an expiry date between 1st April and 29th June 2021.” Besides this in accordance with Government protocol the firm says that there will be a delay in delivery for recent product orders to certain locations and the company will be unable to fulfil the order, at present.  “Unfortunately, we may not be able to predict the delivery of your order, however, we will ship the order as soon as possible from our end once restrictions ease,” the company also noted in its announcement. This move came after most of the service centre operations are temporarily halted in compliance with Government regulations until further notice. Other brands who have extended the warranty on their products due to lockdown and movement restrictions amidst COVID-19 includes Poco, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, and others. So like we said before it an invite-only audio-based social network platform and is currently available on iOS and just now went into beta for Android users in India. Recently Oppo confirmed to launch Oppo Reno 6 Series in China on May 27. This time the lineup is expected to include three models Oppo Reno 6, the Oppo Reno 6 Pro and  Oppo Reno 6 Pro+ as all the three models have been spotted on certification sites and have been leaked many times. Both vanilla, as well as the Pro variant, are expected to equip MediaTek Dimensity 1200 SoC, whereas the most expensive of all Oppo Reno 6 Pro+ might include Snapdragon 870 SoC. Just a week before the unveiling all three devices have been listed on Chinese e-retailer websites. The listing has revealed the design as well as their key highlights. Oppo Reno 6 Series is set to launch on May 27 in China. The company has not shared any information related to its design or specification ahead of the launch but as per the latest listing by the Chinese e-retailer websites JD.com and Suning websites the design, colours, configurations, and some specifications have been leaked.

As per the listing, Oppo Reno 6 is expected to offer 8GB RAM with 128GB storage and 12GB RAM with a 256GB storage model. Both the configurations will be available in Galaxy Dream, Night Sea, and Summer Harumi colour options. For the optics, there might be a  triple rear camera setup that will include a 64-megapixel primary sensor. Possibly on the front, it would equip a 32-megapixel selfie camera placed inside a hole-punch cutout located on the top left corner of the display. In addition to this, the phone will include a  3.5mm headphone jack and a USB Type-C port as well as 65W fast charging support.

Google Maps is a web mapping platform that offers satellite imagery, aerial photography, real-time traffic conditions, and route planning for travelling by foot, car, air and public transportation and more. At this year’s Google I/O, the tech firm has introduced new and improved features to the app to make make it more accessible. It has announced five new updates so you can more easily navigate, explore and get things done.   Routing updates With the new routing update, Google Maps will reduce your chances of having hard-braking moments like when you are driving and approach a busy intersection, the traffic slows suddenly and you have to slam on your brakes. Maps will now provide you with the fastest routes and identify which one is likely to reduce your chances of encountering a hard-braking moment. It will automatically recommend that route if the ETA is the same or the difference is minimal.  Live View Live View was launched by Google in 2019 and it brings AR to navigation at scale. With the directly update it will be available on the maps interface and you can see helpful details about the shops and restaurants around you, like how busy they are, recent reviews and photos. Additional details like new street signs for complex intersections will be displayed too so you know exactly what road you’re on and which way to go. And if you’re travelling, Live View will tell you where you are in relation to places like your hotel — so you can always find your way back to your home base. Detailed Street maps The detailed street maps feature, which launched last August, will soon be available in 50 more cities by the end of this year — including Berlin, São Paulo, Seattle, and Singapore. This will allow you to see where sidewalks, crosswalks and pedestrian islands are, along with the shape and width of a road to scale. This information can help pedestrians plan the most accommodating route, especially if they’re using a  wheelchair or stroller. Busyness According to Google, over 80 million people turn to live busyness information on its platform for specific places to save time waiting in line and stay socially distanced during the pandemic. This feature has been expanded on to show the relative busyness of an entire area, like whether a neighbourhood or part of town is busier than usual. If it’s Saturday morning and you want to explore your city without crowds bogging you down, open up Maps to instantly see busy hotspots to avoid — like the streets near the local farmers’ market. On the flip side, if you want to check out popular parts of town, use area busyness to scope out lively neighbourhoods at a glance to discover interesting things to do. Customisation Soon Google Maps will be customising map to highlight the most relevant places based on time of day and whether or not you’re travelling. For instance, you live in New York and open up Maps at 8 a.m. on a weekday, we’ll prominently feature nearby coffee shops — instead of dinner spots — so you can start your day with a caffeine fix. Here is how you can make Google Maps more accessible

The Google Maps users are now allowed to create their own template or accessibility checklist while adding a review to make it more helpful to other users including people with disabilities. When we visit a place or business we can add which accessibility features a place has — like whether it has a wheelchair-accessible entrance, wheelchair-accessible restroom, wheelchair-accessible parking — by answering questions about the business on the Google Maps app.  While those who are the business owner or manager with a verified Business Profile on Google are allowed to add attributes to their Business Profile on Search and Maps. Besides this Google has also added the assistive hearing loop attribute that will be helpful to people in knowing whether a movie theatre or library, has a sound system that is compatible with hearing aids.  The Accessibility attributed can be made more accessible by using tools such as Live Transcribe, Live Caption, and TalkBack on Android. Apart from this to make it more noticeable creating public lists on Google Maps is another way tp share knowledge on Google Maps. Lists of places like museums in your city or the most wheelchair-accessible restaurants in your neighbourhood.   Asongfac Lily Rospeen, a Local Guide from the Southwest region of Cameroon, curates lists like her Accessibility Buea list that includes wheelchair accessible banks, hotels, hospitals, bookshops, pharmacies, and supermarkets in her city can be created to curate accessible places on Maps. Infinix, a Hong Kong-based smartphone company today announced the launch of its latest smartphone in the Indian market. The company has introduced Infinix Hot 10S as its latest addition to its Hot 10 series. The device comes with a 6,000mAH battery and features a 90Hz refresh rate screen. In addition to this, there is a 90Hz refresh rate display and is powered by a MediaTek Helio G85 chipset. Infinix Hot 10S price and availability The Infinix Hot 10S has been launched in India in two different configurations. The price of the base 4GB RAM with 64GB storage option is set at Rs 9,999. Whereas the 6GB RAM with 64GB storage model will be available with a price tag of Rs 10,999. The device will be offered in four colour options of Morandi Purple, 7-Degree Purple, Heart of Ocean, and 95-Degree Black. The phone is scheduled to go on sale via Flipkart from noon onwards. The company is offering Rs 500 off on the purchase of the handset on the first day of the sale.
