Vivo Y17 Review: A good looking mid-ranger with exceptional camera performance

The Vivo Y17 was launched a few weeks ago and it packs some of the trending features of 2019 like a water-drop notched display and triple-rear camera setup (to name a few). The smartphone is placed in the sub-mid-range category and needless to say, this is the most competitive category in the Indian smartphone market. We spent some days with the Vivo Y17 to find out how it fares up against other mobiles and what features it packs. Read our review of the new Vivo Y17 to find out if you should buy it or not?

Design and Display

The Vivo Y17 holds a regular smartphone design and it leans towards a thick smartphone built. Even without a case it feels bulky. And when putting the transparent case, which comes in the box, it becomes a handful to hold. Its weight is 191g which is not much, but it is not on the lighter side either.

The front of the Vivo Y17 is dominated by the huge 6.35-inch HD+ (720 x 1,544 pixels) IPS LCD display with a dew-drop notch on top holding the front camera. The earpiece is placed right above the front camera in a metallic grille. And its display is one of the major selling points as it just dominates the smartphone. It does not compare to the colours and the accuracy of an AMOLED display panel, but does a fine job nevertheless. Its display comes with a slight yellowish tint which can be manually treated by tweaking the colour controls.

Vivo Y17

The right side of the Vivo Y17 holds the volume rockers and the power button, which is easy to use with one hand. The top of the smartphone is devoid of any sensors while the left side of the Vivo Y17 holds the SIM and microSD card slot. Yes, it has a dedicated dual-SIM slot along with a microSD card slot.

The bottom part of the Vivo Y17 holds a speaker grille along with a Micro-USB port for charging and a headphone jack along with a microphone. The back of the Vivo Y17 has a gradient back panel which comes in two colour options – Blue and Purple and it does look good. The back panel of the smartphone is also made up of glass which further adds to its premium looks.

Vivo Y17

The Vivo Y17’s dimensions are 159.43 × 76.77 × 8.92mm while its weight is 190.5g, which as said before is a bit on the heavier side. It comes in two colour variant – Mineral Blue and Mystic Purple, we had the Mineral Blue version and needless to say, we were impressed with its glass built. It has a gradient back finish which is blue at the top which turns into darker shade of blue at the bottom.

Performance and Cameras

On the performance department, the Vivo Y17 packs a tru-octa core MediaTek Helio P35 SoC and it performs well in the day-to-day activities. It packs 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage with a dedicated microSD card slot. And since it has 4GB of RAM it handles multi-tasking well. Although there were some jitters and lag here and there when we tried to push it in the performance area, it can handle daily usage with ease. It should be noted that it is not a top-end flagship, it costs under Rs 20K price point and offers just the same – mid-range performance. So, don’t expect it to out-perform all your heavy usage.

Gaming on the Vivo Y17 was fairly good as most games ran on medium settings. PUBG ran on Balanced graphics with Medium frame rate, the HD and the HDR graphics option was not supported for the smartphone so you will have to play in the Balanced setting itself. The device comes with what’s named as ‘Game Assistant’ mode and it basically functions as other Game modes in smartphones.

Vivo Y17 camera samples

The Game Assistant in the Vivo Y17 comes with options to disable or enable the following notifications and features – Calls, Notifications, Three-finger mode, Performance SDK option, CPU optimization and RAM optimization along with Esports Mode and a Reject option. The Game Assistant does what it says and it blocks all the notification with a quick and simple toggle.  Games such as Asphalt 8, Asphalt 9 etc ran on medium settings without any hiccups.

Talking about the benchmarks, the Vivo Y17 scores 87,762 on AnTuTu Benchmarking and on Geekbench it scores 904 on single core and 4,367 on multi core. Not bad for a sub-20K smartphone.

Vivo Y17 scores  Vivo Y17 camera samples

Now to talk about the battery life, the Vivo Y17 packs a massive 5,000mAh battery which easily lasted 2 days on normal and regular usage of browsing, social media, YouTube etc. At the end of the day, we were left with around 40% of battery charge, on a normal usage day. But once you start putting heavy load on the Vivo Y17 you can see a battery output of just a full day. It also comes with an 18W Dual Engine Fast Charging support, which is able to charge the battery from 0% to 100% in around two hours. So, on the battery department, Vivo Y17 wins with flying colours.

In the security department, the Vivo Y17 comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner along with face unlock. In our testing we found out that the fingerprint scanner of the Vivo Y17 was fast, it unlocked the device right after your fingers have made contact with the sensor. But when unlocking with wet fingers, it took some time for it to recognize our limbs. On the other hand, the face unlock is fast. You just need to press the unlock button and face your smartphone, and it will unlock automatically.

The Vivo Y17 runs Android 9.0 skinned with FunTouch OS 9 so there are no complaints about the OS of the device. The FunTouch OS 9 might take some time to get used to as it does things its own ways and techniques. In some ways, the FunTouch OS 9 seems like a copy of iOS but it was smooth and jitter free. The quick-menu toggles are pulled from the bottom of the screen with an upwards slide motion (similar to an iPhone), the quick-menu toggles give the option to toggle on/off things like Wi-Fi, Mobile data, Airplane Mode, Bluetooth and so on. But when sliding from the top like other Android smartphones, you will be greeted with a notification panel which will show app notifications.

Vivo Y17 camera samples

Talking about the camera of the Vivo Y17, it features an AI triple-rear camera setup placed in a vertically with gold linings around it. Below the camera setup is the LED flash. The rear camera of the Vivo Y17 consists of a 13MP main camera with an f/2.2 aperture paired with an 8MP 16mm ultra-wide lens with an f/2.2 aperture. The third sensor is a 2MP depth sensor with an f/2.4 aperture.

While at the front, there is a 20MP selfie camera with an f/2.0 aperture. The rear camera of the Vivo Y17 comes with features such as Auto Scene, Doc capture, Pro Mode, Voice Control, Time-Lapse, Live Photos, HDR andSuper-Wide Angle Camera to name a few. While the front camera of the device comes laden with features such as Gender Detection, face beauty, live photo, voice control, portrait, beauty camera filter etc.

Vivo Y17 camera samples

We tried the camera of the Vivo Y17 and needless to say, it delivered. The colours were vivid and lively with good contrast range, but as mentioned before, the white balance is a little on the warmer side. The low-light photography of the device gets the job done, but it too suffers from noise and detail reduction in very dark areas. The other negative point is the lack of OIS (optical image optimization), so zooming in becomes jittery and shaky. Other than that, it is a good camera with fast-focus and image production.

Verdict

At some places, the Vivo Y17 shines, like the price point it is targeted at, while at other is aches. The display, build and battery of the Vivo Y17 is great and it doesn’t feel like a cheap smartphone, but on the other hand, the camera could have been improved and it could have been a little slimmer.

Considering it is priced at Rs 15,990 where smartphones like Redmi Note 7 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy A50 play, the Vivo V17 seems over-priced. But nonetheless, it still is a good smartphone for people looking for a good camera phone and large battery life within a budget.

Pros:

Good display

Battery life

Fast face unlock and fingerprint scanner

Cons:

Camera at night could have been better

Average gaming performance

Thick build

Vivo Z-series smartphone’s first images leaked: Take a look

0

Chinese smartphone maker Vivo has really upped its game since last year. The company has launched a number of devices and showcased quite a few prototypes which make it clear that it is taking its research behind the devices quite seriously. Since last year, we have seen a number of good smartphones from the company including Vivo NEX, Vivo V15 Pro and even the company’s holeless Apex phone. This year, the company will be seen launching its Z series. Here’s a look at some leaked images of Vivo’s Z series smartphone that have surfaced online.

Only the back panel of the smartphone is visible in the images that show the glass body design of the upcoming smartphone. Other than this, a camera module is placed on the rear panel of the handset that houses three vertically stacked lenses. Other than this, the module has an LED flash lens too. A fingerprint sensor can also be seen on the Vivo Z series smartphone’s back panel. So the possibility of having an in-display fingerprint scanner has been ruled out.

However, this also in a way rules out the presence of a Face Unlock feature. So, it can be assumed that the upcoming smartphone will come with a pop-up selfie camera to offer a full-screen experience to its users. We should mention that Vivo has launched a number of smartphones with pop-up selfie cameras including Vivo NEX, V15 Pro and V15. While the elevating cameras on Vivo V15 and Vivo NEX could not pop-up by themselves when the user tried unlocking the device, the one on Vivo V15 Pro did.

Vivo Z-series smartphone's images leaked 2

So maybe, the pop-up selfie camera on Vivo Z series will also not be able to elevate on its own each time the user tries unlocking the smartphone.

Besides this, the back panel of the smartphone also has a Vivo branding on it. We should add that as of now, there is no other information about the smartphone including its name, specifications and when it will be launched. We would have to wait a little more to find more about it.

But then, we should also mention that some reports are speculating that these images showcase the Vivo Z5x smartphone. But till there is a word from the company about this, we would recommend you to take this information with a pinch of salt.

But one thing is for sure. We do have a new Vivo smartphone to look forward to that comes with a triple rear camera setup and probably has a pop-up selfie camera too.

Amazon is the most trusted Internet brands in India: Report

0

Amazon is the largest e-commerce platform and one of the biggest companies in the world right now. According to a recent report by TRA Research, Amazon was found to be the most trusted among the Internet brands in India. Amazon was followed by Google and Facebook securing second and third position in the survey. In the survey, 32 big Internet brands were and among these, it was Amazon that secured the top spot. Hike, an Indian instant messaging application, was placed at number 4 and it was ahead of Facebook-owned WhatsApp, which stood at the 10th position. Following Hike, the fifth position was secured by Oyo Rooms, another Indian accommodation service provider and online hotel room aggregator. The survey was done by brand intelligence and data insights company’s Brand Trust Report 2019.

There are more Indian companies in the listing of the most trusted among the internet brands in India. After Oyo Rooms which is placed at number 5, the Indian taxi service Ola is ranked at number 6. Comparing Ola to Uber, which is the US-based taxi service and is placed at number 14, people trusted the Indian platform more than the foreign one even though they offer the same service.

After Ola, Indian e-commerce platform Flipkart was placed at number 7, which is six places behind its competitor Amazon. The difference between two of the same service providers, one being Indian while the other being foreign is staggering. On one hand, Amazon is leading the charts placed at number 1, on the other hand, Flipkart is placed at number 7. But when comparing all the top 20 companies in the report, we see that most of the rankings are taken by Indian start-ups and companies which is commendable.

Commenting on the report, N Chandramouli, CEO, TRA, said, “Many Indian Internet start-ups are leaders in their categories, which is no mean feat. The brands that focus on creating trust along with profits and growth are the ones that will survive in this business.”

LinkedIn, the social networking platform is placed at number 8 while another e-commerce platform, Snapdeal was placed at number 9. PayPal, the global online payments service ranked 18th while the Indian online payment service provider Paytm was placed at number 19 in the survey.

With India becoming more digitized and more people depending on the technology, online platforms and smartphones, apps and other online services has become a necessity. And with more Indian apps and services emerging as a victor over their foreign counterpart, the scale is tipping more towards the Indian made apps side as the reliance of the people increasing.

Halo Infinite will be coming to Microsoft’s ‘Project Scarlett’ console, PC and Xbox One in 2020

1

E3 2019 will be the centre-stage to some of the biggest game reveals and launches this year. Till now, multiple companies have revealed their upcoming titles. After Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and CyberPunk 2077 were revealed at the gaming conference, the Halo Infinite has been announced as well. Halo Infinite is the upcoming title in the Halo series and this time in the game, we will be taking the role of Master Chief once again. Halo Infinite was first teased by Microsoft at E3 2018 last year and now a year later the company has come up with new footage of the upcoming game.

Back in 2018, we were shown just a small glimpse of Master Chief but this time Microsoft teased us with some action from the character. Halo Infinite will more likely be an open-world version of the game.

Breaking down the trailer, we are shown a pilot/ engineer of a spaceship who is stranded in space on a broken ship. Somehow, he stumbles upon Master Chief in space and connects him to the system and powers him back on. At first, the reveal shows a message saying ‘AI NOT DETECTED’ which means that Cortana will not be with Chief for some time. But then they are attacked and Chief wields the iconic Halo’s Assault Rifle to counter the assailants. The trailer also shows a broken Halo Ring where 2018’s reveal trailer might have taken place. We have a feeling that we will be taken back to the Halo Ring once again. In the end, Master Chief is shown walking towards what seems like a control room (similar to other Halo games) where an AI can be heard talking and about ‘why she chose him. In addition to this, Master Chief is shown removing the chip which earlier held Cortana (the AI), and we have a feeling there will be another AI accompanying Chief on his journey, and it will most probably be Cortana herself.

Chris Lee, the studio head of Halo Infinite said, “This story will mark the beginning of a new chapter and challenge for the Chief, but it will also respect and continue threads that led to this point. If you’ve never played a Halo game before, this will be a great place to jump into the story.”

According to Microsoft, Halo Infinite will be launching alongside the company’s next-generation of gaming consoles which is named as Project Scarlett. The company also said that Halo Infinite is the ‘spiritual reboot’ of Halo but it will have new characters and a ‘perfect starting point for new players’. Other than the new console, Halo Infinite will be coming to PC and Xbox One as well. The upcoming game is powered by a new Slipspace Engine and is created by 343 Industries.

Microsoft’s Xbox Elite 2 controller announced: Here are the key details

We have some news for gamers who have been waiting for the new Xbox and accessories. Software giant Microsoft announced some details about its upcoming Xbox gaming console at the E3 yesterday. The new gaming console has codenamed as Project Scarlett and will only be launched next year. However, that wasn’t the only big announcement from the company. Microsoft also announced its Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 at the event.

According to the company, the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 has been re-engineered completely and it comes with new adjustable tension thumbsticks. Users will be able to adjust these thumbsticks using a tool that can improve precision. We should also mention that the trigger grips in the new controller have also been updated. Besides this, the bumpers have been redesigned and the hair locks are now shorter, which will enable the user to fire faster. Another thing worth mentioning is that paddles and thumbsticks of the new Xbox controller have also been revamped for more customization.

The company has also added support for USB Type C and Bluetooth. There is also a rechargeable battery on the controller that can last up to 40 hours with one charge. It is worth noticing that the controller design has been upgraded to come with a wrap-around rubberized grip. The new controller’s design is a big update to the look and feel of the existing one as it comes with a lot of more options for customization. It also comes with the connectivity support that gamers have been waiting and requesting for since so long.

It is worth adding that Microsoft updated its Elite controller last time in August last year when it unveiled a new robot white coloured option. Although the controller had a new colour variant, it did not offer any new features. The second-generation Elite controller has been rumoured for more than a year now. The company has said that the pre-orders for the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 will begin now and it will be available in 24 countries starting November 4. The new Xbox controller is priced at $179.99.

Speaking about the Project Scarlett Xbox gaming console, it has a custom-designed processor that is based on AMD’s Zen 2 and Radeon RDNA architecture and it is promised to be four times more powerful than the Xbox One X. Project Scarlett gaming console will have support for 8K gaming, up to 120fps framerates, variable refresh rate and ray tracing.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 15-minute long gameplay trailer released

0

E3 is the annual event that all gamers look forward to because so many companies announce what they have up their sleeves for their gaming audience at the conference. E3 2019 is no different. Ahead of the E3 2019, Microsoft has already announced some details about its upcoming Xbox console. But that is not the only exciting thing that has been announced. Companies are also releasing their gameplay footages, trailers, and teasers to create the hype for their products before they are launched. One of these trailers is Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, which is one of the most awaited titles of 2019. Electronics Art (EA) has released 15 minutes long and uncut gameplay trailer for the upcoming Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

The gameplay trailer takes place three hours in the actual game and the main character Cal Kestis (voiced and played by Cameron Monaghan) is no longer a Padawan. However, he has also not become a full-fledged Jedi. The footage shows that the game takes place on a Wookie Planet called Kashyyyk. This is the planet where the Wookies have been enslaved and the young Jedi protagonist will be working with a group of other soldiers to free the Wookies.

In the trailer, Cal is accompanied by a small droid named BD-1 who is as adorable as he is trustworthy, and as useful as the BB-8 and R2D2 from the past movies. The droid has his own unique voice, much like other droids before him and from the trailer, it seems to be extremely useful. There is also Forest Whitaker, who earlier played Gerrera in 2016’s standalone Star Wars movie named Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Coming to the graphics, the trailer reveals that it is still in its Alpha phase so it is subject to change. The planet and the surroundings where the actual game takes place is huge and engaging. It is laden with forest and other natural happenings like waterfall, unique animals and so on. But since it is in Alpha phase, nothing could be said about the graphics as it might be changed when the actual game launches.

Talking about the use of powers, we see that Cal is capable of using the Light Saber and can use the Force to do a number of tasks. There tasks include stopping the lasers mid-air, removing something from the path, using the Force while fighting to push enemies away or pull them in. The protagonist is also seen using other tools and his droid to navigate through the mission.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be a single player game that would follow Cal Kestis, one of the last surviving Jedi of the Jedi Order after it was attacked by the Order 66. The game follows the events after Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. According to Vince Zampella, the founder of Respawn, the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be a story driven game and it will have a heavy narrative.

The Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be launched for PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One on November 15.

Microsoft’s next generation Xbox to support 8K graphics, SSD storage

Software giant Microsoft has revealed the first details of its next-generation Xbox. Most of the rumours about the upcoming gaming console said that Microsoft is planning to launch two new devices in 2020. While one of the two upcoming consoles is said to be the equivalent of the Xbox One X that is currently available in the market, the other one will be the Xbox One S. Now, we are finally getting some information about the next high-end console in the Xbox series, which has been codenamed as Project Scarlett.

The company says that the console comes with a custom-designed processor that is based on AMD’s Zen 2 and Radeon RDNA architecture. The company has also promised that its new console will be four times more powerful than the Xbox One X. It will come with GDDR6 RAM that is claimed to “usher in resolution and framerates we’ve never seen before.”

The newly-announced Project Scarlett console will have support for 8K gaming, up to 120fps framerates, variable refresh rate and ray tracing. The company has also said that it is using an SSD on the console. Speaking about Project Scarlett, an Xbox spokesperson said, “We’ve created a new generation of SSDs. We’re using the SSD as virtual RAM.” We should mention that Microsoft says that this is supposed to boost the performance of the device by 40x as compared to the current generation of the gaming console. In simpler words, games will load a lot faster than they do on the current version.

Sony has also promised that the PS5 gaming console with come with support of up to 8K graphics, 3D audio and SSD storage. The console is also said to have backward compatibility with the titles that are currently available on the PlayStation 4. The upcoming PlayStation 5 will also be powered by an eight-core CPU that will be based on AMD’s 3rd generation Ryzen line. The console will come with a GPU that has support for ray-tracing graphics. Sony has also started teasing 4K graphics coupled with a refresh rate of 120Hz.

It is also worth mentioning that Halo Infinite is also getting launched along with Microsoft’s Project Scarlett Xbox console. With this, the company has set the stage for the next generation of console gaming. The software giant has not disclosed what exactly the Project Scarlett looks like and we should also mention that its unveiling is a lot similar to what the company did to Project Scorpio, which was eventually launched as Xbox One X.

Huawei Nova 5i’s 6GB RAM variant gets listed on Geekbench

A few days back, a phone that has not been officially confirmed or announced yet – Huawei Nova 5i – was spotted on Geekbench. The same device also received regulatory certificates in two countries. Now, Geekbench has listed a new variant of Huawei Nova 5i smartphone that comes with 6GB of RAM. We should mention that the one that had surfaced online earlier had 4GB of RAM. The listing on Geekbench also says that Huawei Nova 5i smartphone will be powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 710 SoC and run Android 9.0 Pie.

The 6GB RAM variant of Huawei Nova 5i that has been spotted on Geekbench comes with the model number ‘HUAWEI GLK-LX2′. We should mention that two other separate listings have been spotted earlier under the same model number. Coming to the scores of the of Huawei Nova 5i on Geekbench, the smartphone scored 1516 and 1530 in the single-core test and it got 5193 and 5233 on the multi-core test.

According to Geekbench, the upcoming smartphone will be powered by an octa-core SoC clocked at 1.71GHz and it will pack 6GB of RAM.

Speaking of the other variant of Huawei Nova 5i smartphone that was spotted on Geekbench recently, it had the model number ‘HUAWEI GLK-LX3. While it is powered by the same processor that powers the 6GB RAM variant of the handset, it packs 4GB of RAM. Going by the Geekbench listing, it is easy to assume that HUAWEI GLK-LX2 will be the high-end model of Huawei Nova 5i with 6GB of RAM. The HUAWEI GLK-LX3 is speculated to be the base model that will house 4GB of RAM.

We should mention that Huawei’s Nova series of smartphones were made available internationally under the company’s ‘P Lite’ moniker. Other reports about the Huawei Nova 5i suggest that it will come with a 5.84-inch full-HD+ hole-punch display and feature a quad-rear camera setup on its back. The display of the smartphone will come with a selfie camera embedded in it so that the user can get a full-screen experience without a notch.

According to the database by NCC, the smartphone will pack 128GB of internal storage and can hold a microSD card of up to 512GB. The smartphone will come with a USB Type-C port. However, since there is no official word on the launch of Huawei Nova 5i, we recommend you to take all this information with a grain of salt.

HTC is planning to launch a new mid-range smartphone named HTC U19e: Report

0

The Taiwanese smartphone company, HTC Corporation has not been active in the smartphone market for quite a while. But now, according to a recent development, HTC might be planning to launch a new smartphone.  HTC has put out a mysterious teaser on its official HTC Facebook page with the date June 11 written on it. Other than the date nothing much was revealed by HTC’s Facebook’s post. It should be noted that, the last HTC smartphone named HTC U12+ launched back in 2018. And now, with the new teaser, HTC will possibly be launching its new smartphone next week.

HTC is also ‘looking forward’ to the new smartphone launch. And if the company launches a new smartphone it will be HTC’s return to the smartphone market. But with the constant change in the current smartphone sector, HTC would have to do something extra-ordinary while keeping the price point in mind if it is looking to lure in the customers.

According to the recent rumours about the new smartphone, HTC is planning to take Google’s route and launch a mid-range smartphone with pricing similar to Google Pixel 3a. And if the company is planning to launch a device similar to the Pixel 3a or the Pixel 3a XL it should have similar or better specifications.

Earlier, a leak about the new HTC mid-range smartphone suggested that it will be powered by the Snapdragon 710 SoC paired with 6GB of RAM. It will reportedly come with a 6-inch Full HD+ (1,080 x 2, to160 pixels) display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. It will also reportedly pack a 3,930mAH battery but whether it will have fast charging support or not is currently not known.

Some of the early renders of the smartphone has also been leaked online which shows that it will pack a simple and normal design. But it will come with dual-front camera and will reportedly come with an ‘e’ in its name, as it is put in the teaser. And there might be a possibility that the HTC’s upcoming mid-range smartphone might wear the HTC U19e nametag.

As mentioned above, the last smartphone launched by the company was HTC U12+ back in 2018. But after that, the company was devoid from the smartphone industry and it hadn’t release a smartphone till now. So, the flagship smartphone field is left for other companies like Apple, Samsung, LG and others. But with the launch of the new smartphone, HTC might be planning on making a return. More details about the smartphone from HTC will be available once it launches on June 11.

PUBG LITE is finally coming to India: Check out the system requirements of the game

0

Even after getting negative remarks and for a few weeks being banned in some states in India, PUBG Mobile (PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds) still hasn’t lost its charm. It still remains one of the most played game on smartphones. And now, PUBG is bringing the light version of its game, PUBG Lite, to India. Earlier, PUBG Lite was launched in other Asian countries like Hong Kong, Taiwan, Bangladesh and non-Asian countries like Brazil, but now weeks later the light PC version of the popular game has finally come to India. And seeing that India still remains one of the biggest markets of the battle royale game, this doesn’t come in as a surprise.

It should be noted that PUBG Lite is the lighter PC version of the popular PC battle royale game. And being a lightweight and watered-down version of the graphically heavy PUBG PC, the Lite version doesn’t need a high-end PC to run. Yes, PUBG Lite can also run on lower-end PCs and laptops. So there is no need of a dedicated GPU to run the game as an integrated GPU would be enough to run the game smoothly.

The news was revealed by the official PUBG India Facebook page which posted an image which contained the dark silhouette of the Taj Mahal. It also had the words “PUBG LITE Coming Soon”, so the revelation was made by the company itself.

Although the news that PUBG Lite is making its way to India soon is clear, but the company hasn’t revealed an official launch date yet. But some leaks and rumours online on Discord and social media suggests that the lighter version of the game will be launching in India by the end of the month. Other than that, the game will also be made available on Steam and it would come to the platform on around June 25.

As mentioned before, PUBG PC is the graphic heavy version of the popular battle royale and the PUBG Lite is the lighter version of the game. So, PUBG Lite will enable the gamers to play the game on their PC with low to mid-range specifications as well. Earlier to play on PC, the players needed an emulator so that they could play the game, but with the arrival of PUBG Lite they would be able to enjoy the game on PC without needing an emulator or a high-end gaming PC.

Here are the System Requirements of PUBG Lite:

Minimum System Requirements

OS: Windows 7,8,10 64Bit

CPU: Core i3 @2.4Ghz

GPU: Intel HD 4000

HDD: 4GB

Recommended System Requirements

Google Chrome for Android gets a new update with Chrome 75, Reader Mode introduced along with other fixes and improvements

Google Chrome is getting a new update with Chrome 75 (75.0.3770.67) for its Android version. The new version of Chrome comes with a number of improvements, new features, performance enhancements and overall stability. The updated Google Chrome for Android is now available on Google Play Store. But the most notable change the Chrome 75 brings to the Android OS is the Reader Mode. But it is not activated by default as it is hidden and to use it, the user would need to turn it on. Google Chrome 75 has borrowed this new feature from Mozilla Firefox web browser.

To turn on the Reader Mode in Chrome 75, the users would need to turn it on using Chrome’s experimental flags. This feature can be turned on using the following route: chrome://flags/#enable-reader-mode section. Once the users enable the Reader Mode in Chrome 75 they would be required to relaunch the web browser to enter the mode. According to the company, Reader Mode works with news stories and text-based content as well. The users can go to ‘Distill Page’ option from the list of dropdown menus which will be present on the top right corner of Google Chrome.

Other than the Reader Mode, Chrome 75 has also fixed several security bugs, one of which was named ‘evil cursor’ bug. The evil cursor bug was earlier reported being misused by technology website in 2018.

Furthermore, Google had recently said that it will be enabling the complete ad blocking capabilities to the Chrome users. This new change had been introduced by the search giant months after facing the outrage for the Manifest V3 standard. So it said that it would be bringing this change of the webRequest API in Manifest V3 and not the entire webRequest API.

Moreover, recently Google had introduced a speedometer to the navigation screen of Maps. The speedometer feature was brought out so that the users will stay within the speed limits while driving. Once the user drives past the speed limit, the app would warn them that they are exceeding the speed limit using the speedometer. This feature was placed on the lower left corner of the screen of the application itself. Google has copied this new feature from Waze which is another map platform similar to Google Maps. Waze uses this feature presently but it is limited to some countries only. And similarly, Google Maps users of Belgium, US and Brazil can only use the speedometer feature right now, but there is a possibility that the company will bring the feature to other countries as well in the recent future.

Microsoft removed its facial recognition database which started in 2016

0

Microsoft, one of the biggest tech giants has removed a huge number of entries of facial recognition from it’s database, which contained more than 10 million images. These images were of more than 1,00,000 people from the internet. Although the database has been removed but the traces of the data trove on the internet still remains.

According to a report by Financial Times, the tech giant has released MS-Celeb-1M which is a dataset of around 10 million photos from 1,00,000 people. This data were collected from the internet from 2016 onwards. Furthermore, the facial recognition database is designed to contain the photos of celebrities. But according to Adam Harvey, a Berlin-based researcher said that the definition of ‘celebrity’ was quite broad, he pointed this out using his project called Megapixels.

Microsoft said that, the image database was taken down because the research challenge was over. According to the tech giant Microsoft, it is doubtful that the MS-Celeb-1M database’s life is over as well.

As mentioned before, the facial recognition database contained images of celebrities, other than them it also contained pictures of “journalists, artists, musicians, activists, policy makers, writers, and academics”. It should be noted that the pictures of people used and stored in the facial recognition database did not have permission and consent from people if they wanted it to be included. The images were taken from the internet itself under the Creative Commons License.

In other news, Microsoft earlier revealed that Windows had a security vulnerability which left it open for worm or other threat attacks. These attacks could become widespread by going from one vulnerable PC to the other. The new attacks could be similar to the massive spread of the WannaCry malware which had affected more than thousand PCs. Although Microsoft has released patches and fixes for Windows including the older one like Windows XP, according to the company, around 1 million PCs which are connected to the internet can still be attacked.

Although the new security flaw of Windows system could not be exploited, as said by the company but that doesn’t mean that the security flaw won’t harm the users.

The WannaCry attacks happened around two months after the company released new patches for the EternalBlue exploit. The EternalBlue exploit affected a number of machines and its exploits were leaked online which allowed the hackers to create the malware targeting the exact exploit.

EternalBlue exploit was leaked publicly, and this allowed hackers to create malware freely. The new BlueKeep flaw has not been disclosed publicly, however, that does not imply that there would be no malware.

Snapchat is testing an events feature on its platform: Report

Photo-messaging app Snapchat is working on integrating the support for events in its service. This is being considered as an attempt to compete with social media giant Facebook, that offers a number of functionalities on its platform. The feature, that has not been announced by Snap Inc as yet, was spotted in the app’s code by Jane Manchun Wong. For those unaware, Wong is an app researcher who has a great track record of discovering various social media features even before they are announced officially.

However, it is not clear as of now how Snapchat‘s event feature would work on the app, or for that matter, will it even be released or not. But then, Wong has posted a screenshot that shows what exactly it looks like. Using the feature, whenever you create an event, you would be able to assign a time and a place to it. If you swipe up on an invite, you would be able to join a group chat for an event too.

As of now, it is not known whether the feature on Snapchat can be used to make public events or it will only be restricted to private events between the user and his immediate friends on the app.

We should also mention that the feature enables the user to assign events to different locations. This way, they can be integrated with the Snap Map on Snapchat. Last year the company updated the Snap Map to show where exactly in the world people’s friends are. Once the events feature launches, it seems like the Snap Map will show people and events too. Besides this, it also speculated that the Map will then show which friends are attending which event. However, till the time there is a word from the company, one cannot be sure what the feature will be able to do.

On an unrelated note, we should mention that Snapchat had announced that Zynga’s Tuny Royale battle royale game would be exclusively available on its platform. This week, the company has brought the Tiny Royale battle royale game to its platform. Going forward, if you open the app, you will see that the newly launched game is available to play on the platform.

With this, it can be assumed that Snapchat is trying to bring PUBG or Fortnite fans to its platform. It is worth mentioning that Zynga-developed game is currently available on Snapchat’s in-app gaming platform called Snap Games. You can access it by pressing on the rocket-shaped icon on the chat window.
