11-year old boy seeks ban on PUBG, moves Bombay High court

Back on Thursday, an 11-year old boy moved the Bombay high court by seeking a ban on the worldwide played game, Player unknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG). He filed a public interest litigation against the game, on the pretext that it promotes violence, aggression and cyber-bullying. The PIL was filed by 11-year old Aham Nizam’s mother on behalf of him. Tanveer Nizam, Aham’s lawyer said, “The petition has also sought a direction to the central government to form an Online Ethics Review Committee for periodical checking of such violence-oriented online content.” The PIL will likely come up for hearing before a division bench headed by Chief Justice NH Patil. Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also talked about PUBG during his speech to students regarding exam stress. The game has been banned in primary schools in Gujarat by the state government. It issued a circular, telling district authorities to make sure that this game is no longer accessible in primary schools. The circular which was distributed by the state government was approved by the Gujarat State Commission for Protection of Child Rights. The state government has directed the District Primary Education Officers to take necessary steps in order to ban the game in that state. In that circular it was written that it is necessary to ban PUBG because, for school going kids, it is “adversely affecting their studies”. Recently, a student body in Jammu and Kashmir, known as Jammu and Kashmir Students Association demanded a ban on PUBG. They protested that the game should be banned because it was responsible for their poor examination results.
As per our knowledge, this ban would only be implemented on PUBG mobile and not on PC or console versions. Jagruti Pandya, Chairperson of the Gujarat child rights body said while talking about the ban being recommended by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), “The NCPCR had sent a letter to all the states and recommended a ban on the game. All the states are required to implement it. Looking at the negative effects of the game, we had recently sent a letter to the state government recommending a ban on the game.” For the latest gadget and tech news, and gadget reviews, follow us on TwitterFacebook and Instagram. For newest tech & gadget videos subscribe to our YouTube Channel.

Oppo to launch a smartphone with a pop-up selfie camera: Report

Last year, we saw a number of smartphone companies trying to avoid the display notch in innovative ways. A notchless display basically means a full-screen experience for the smartphone user, and needless to say, anyone who uses their device for entertainment would like their handset to be that way. While Samsung Galaxy A8s tried to deliver a full-screen experience with a hole-punch display to house the selfie camera, Chinese smartphone makers Oppo and Vivo opted for a slider camera and a pop-up selfie camera in their respective devices. But then, it’s common knowledge that Oppo and Vivo have the same parent company, BBK Electronics. So, they are often seeing borrowing features from each other. And this may happen once again as an image of an Oppo smartphone with a pop-up selfie camera has surfaced online. And we should mention that this feature has only been seen in Vivo NEX till now and it is likely to be seen again in the upcoming V15 Pro smartphone. Coming back to Oppo‘s smartphone, tipster Ishan Agarwal has posted several images of the upcoming device on his Twitter profile. The leakster has mentioned that the smartphone in the images is either Oppo R19 or Oppo F11 and he also said that the photos were sent to him by an anonymous source.
In the leaked images, it can be seen that the front panel of the smartphone has a small chin and is nearly bezel-less at the top. On the back panel, there is a dual rear camera setup coupled with an LED flash and a fingerprint sensor can be seen right below it. It is also worth noticing that while the elevating selfie camera in Vivo NEX was placed on the left side of the top edge, in Oppo’s smartphone, it is placed right in the centre of the top edge. An image also shows the software that has been used in the device. We can see that the upcoming smartphone by Oppo runs the latest Android Pie skinned with the company’s own ColorOS 6. It also has the January 2019 security patches running on it. Furthermore, the images also reveal that the upcoming Oppo smartphone will have dual-SIM capabilities and may even be able to support a microSD card via a hybrid slot. That’s all that we know so far about the device so far. We are waiting for more details about it to surface online like its exact specifications, launch date, or some other unique features. We’ll update you when we get to know more! Instagram Stories now has 500 million daily active users

Instagram Stories, a feature that the photo-sharing app picked up from its rival Snapchat that enables users to share what they are doing with their followers via pictures that disappear after 24 hours, now has 500 million daily active users. The number has been given by Instagram‘s parent company Facebook during its latest earnings call. We should point out that the number has increased significantly from 400 million daily active users that were reported in June last year. At the earnings call, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that the feature is continuing to grow at a fast pace. He also added that the Stories format, which is now present on Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger and Facebook‘s own app, will be monetised “at the same levels” as the News Feed. We should mention that when first introduced on Instagram, the Stories feature was not monetised. However, lately, Facebook has started adding advertisements to it in order to generate some revenue. Going forward, Stories on Instagram will also get a shopping feature so that companies can start selling their products via Stories.
Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg pointed out that Instagram Stories helped Washington DC-based online photo frame maker, Framebridge, get more than 25% of new customer sales. She also talked about companies like Cetaphil which have been using the feature on Instagram to increase the sales in their stores. Sandberg said, “Today, we’re also announcing that 2 million advertisers are using Stories to reach customers across our family of apps. We’re making it easier for advertisers to adopt their campaigns for Stories.” Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg also said that the company plans to introduce new products that will bring “major improvements to people’s lives.” For instance, WhatsApp Payments, which is currently being tested in India, will be rolled out in more countries in 2019. He also added that private sharing in Groups and Stories is also set to become more central to the social networking platform’s experience. He said, “We’re going to get to a point soon where people feel like Facebook is about as communities as it – is about communities as much as it’s about your friends and family where almost everyone is in a group that’s meaningful to them and that community is a central part of their experience.” He also spoke about Facebook Watch saying that its 400 million users accessed the service every month and on an average spent 20 minutes on it per day. Zuckerberg also said that Facebook is also set to start the shipping of its Oculus Quest. Facebook also revealed that it now has a consolidated figure of 2.7 billion monthly users. But now, there is news on what the company is planning to do on the software front, and according to it, Apple is working on its new iOS 13 as well. The upcoming OS is said come with a system-wide dark mode. We should mention that dark mode is quite popular with the users of the apps like Twitter and Reddit. And iPhone users have been asking for a dark mode in their phones for a long time. The initial build of Android Q that surfaced online a few weeks back, also showed the same feature.
Coming back to Apple, the newest iOS will have many improvements over its older counterpart. While iOS 12 was focused more on stability, performance and bug fixes, its newer version is said to come with all of that and more. According to reports, Apple is going to make some changes in the home screen which hasn’t been changed since it was first introduced in 2007. Reports also suggest that the changes might only be for the iPad which makes use of its bigger screen to increase productivity, and as of now there’s no word on whether the same changes will be seen on the iPhone as well. Better security options, new gestures and 3D touch interactions are also expected to be added to the new iOS. The new feature also includes tabbed experience for apps through which the users will be able to tab through multiple versions of a single app just like going through tabs of a web browser. Apple is constantly making headlines since the beginning of the year. It was recently reported that the Cupertino-based technology company is planning its own Video game subscription service much like Netflix. Another report said that it is planning to launch ‘Attain’, a health monitoring app and it has partnered with the insurer Aetna for the same. Furthermore, it has also been reported that Apple is planning to release a News subscription service and new Apple music as well. Sony pumps up the capacity of PlayStation Plus Cloud from 10GB to 100GB

0
The PlayStation Plus Cloud, which earlier had storage capacity of 10GB, will start offering 100GB to its users starting February 2019. So going forward, the PlayStation Plus members can enjoy and store 10 times more games and saves in their cloud storage. The cloud storage feature had been very useful for all the PS4 users as it enables them to upload and save their game data to the cloud using their IDs and they can access their saved games from any other PlayStation by opening their IDs. This also means that they can continue their games from the place they had left before. And now with the increased storage, they can save much more than before. The users of PlayStation Plus enjoy free games every month that they can play online, besides the cloud storage it offers which saves games and profiles. So now the users of the PS Plus can play games without worrying about their storage space getting full.
Although there is an option to transfer PS4 games by using a USB storage device as PS4 has an option to transfer files over USB, but having cloud storage of 100GB gives more options to the gamers and takes away the need to carry a USB device for transferring files. Another feature of PlayStation cloud is that if a game title is available for both PS4 and PS Vita and if the user plays on both then he can play on one device using his PS Plus ID and then he can save the progress to the cloud and start on the other device where they had left. Sony has increased the storage of PS Plus as it prepares to drop PS3’s and PS Vita’s games from PS Plus. Sony also plans to stop making new game titles for these platforms as these platforms have become old and they are not capable of handling the newer titles which are graphically intense. The company will stop the physical game production for the Vita from March of 2019. In February 2019, the Plus members can enjoy some of the PS4 hits the action packed For Honor and the assassin game Hitman: The Complete First Season. The games will be available starting February 5. Samsung Galaxy S10 smartphones’ mass production begins: Report

Samsung is all set to launch its flagship smartphones from the Galaxy S10 series next month. And a recent report also claimed that the Samsung Galaxy S10 smartphone has been certified in Brazil. And now, another report has surfaced online which claims that three models that are set to be launched on February 20 are already in full-blown mass production. The report, which first surfaced on The Investor from South Korean, says that as of now, the company is only focussing on producing 4G variants of the Samsung Galaxy S10 models. The 5G models will reportedly be launched sometime later this year and their production has been slated for first half of 2019. The Investor also mentions that all the three variants of the smartphone will sport an in-display fingerprint sensor and will come with a detachable screen protector. The publication quoted a source saying, “Samsung started mass producing the Galaxy S10 at its manufacturing lines in [South] Korea on January 25. The 5G Galaxy S10 is still in the pipeline and will start being produced later during the first half.”
Speaking about other features of the device, the source said that all the three models of Samsung Galaxy S10 will come with an in-display fingerprint sensor. While the premium models will sport an ultrasonic in-display scanner, the most affordable one of the three will come with an optical fingerprint sensor. We should mention that the ultrasonic solution will reportedly be more advanced and will be able to map the user’s fingerprint in three dimensions and will be more accurate than the optical fingerprint solution. The Investor’s source also mentioned that all the three variants of the smartphone will come with a detachable screen protector and Samsung Galaxy S10+ will also be available in a 1TB storage variant. While the source did not reveal if the foldable phone will be launched by Samsung at the Galaxy Unpacked event, he did voice scepticism over the device’s adoption. The Investor quoted the source saying, “The expensive price will be a major hurdle for the foldable phone to go mainstream.” For those unaware, Samsung has scheduled its Galaxy Unpacked event in San Francisco on February 20, where it is expected to launch its Galaxy S10 Lite, Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ smartphones. All the three devices will come with the company’s new Infinity-O displays. We should also mention that Samsung has hinted that it may launch the foldable phone at the event too. 0

In this update the Settings menu gets the Autofill support for its sections and a new shortcut has been added in the People section, which lets the user open their Google Account settings directly. The API improvements provided added layer of security to users. It now allows users to sign-in suing a security key, Bluetooth U2F keys or other security methods. For Windows users the update blocks code injections which reduces the crashes caused by third party software. And for Mac users, Chrome’s new update brings support for external authentication devices that connect over BLE. The update now restricts the pop-ups to appear during page unloads even if the pop-up blocker is active or not. Chrome 72 also removes the ability to setup Chromecast dongle using the desktop browser. But this change is only for the dongle setting up process and casting tabs, videos or audio is still as easy as before. Facebook won’t combine all its messengers this year

Recently, we have come to know that Facebook will be launching the end-to-end encryption and combine all its messaging platforms into one. This would lead to the integration of WhatsApp and Instagram with Facebook. The latest news about this feature is that it is not going to arrive this year. We are not going to see end-to-end encryption on Facebook throughout this year. Mark Zukerberg reportedly said that, the app integration is not going to arrive before 2020 and beyond. The reason behind this, Mark Zukerberg is saying, is that they need to figure out some things. There is a lot of work going on around this. However, the date of the launch of this feature has not been specified. Zuckerberg talks about why would users want to use end-to-end encryption by citing awkward cases where someone might use the marketplace feature on Facebook, but then have to jump over to WhatsApp for messaging. He also talked about the fact that messenger combined with WhatsApp and Instagram can lead to an iMessage-like layer for SMS that offers more security and functionality. In terms of security, the end-to-end encryption will protect messages from being viewed by others, except the participants of the conversation. Things like strangers contacting people without sharing their phone numbers will get curbed. Even though the end-to-end encryption is aimed towards user safety, it won’t always conceal information. According to researchers, information regarding who is interacting with whom just might be shared. Facebook might come across users’ data that could expose their private information.
However, end-to-end encryption would be a very useful move as there are chances for it to curb terrorism that can happen using social media platforms. There have been reports in the past about terrorists and cyber attackers using non-secure messaging services. This move is being made in order to counter all these problems. The EETE would allow Facebook users to send an encrypted message to another user who is not on Facebook, but WhatsApp and Instagram. There is still a lot of time for this to be established, and so it is hard to tell whether it will be boon or a bane for users. Apple iPhones to come with 3D Cameras next year

0
The tech giant Apple Inc’s iPhones are known for many things and the cameras are one of them, Next year Apple is planning to bring 3D cameras to their iPhones. They will also be pushing towards augmented reality. The company is also expected to bring 3 camera setup to the new line-up of iPhones. According to a report from Bloomberg, for the 3D camera the company will be using laser scanner instead of the dot-projection technology, which it has been using till now. Since the dot-projection tech doesn’t work well over long distances. And that’s not it, the company will also be bringing a third camera to their dual-camera setup, it will be advanced and will enhance the photo-capture tools of the iPhones. Over that, the company will also incorporate a new and more powerful chip to compete with Snapdragon 855 SoC, which is the Qualcomm’s 2019 flagship processor. So, the next generation of iPhones will be more advanced, feature rich and powerful than the current gen of iPhones. The 3-D camera will enhance the augmented reality on the iPhones too, which will give more accurate depth perception and placement of virtual objects. It will give the cameras better control to capture the depth of an image. The cameras will be designed to scan the environment to create a three-dimensional reconstruction of the real world which will work up to 15 feet from the device. If we talk about the current gen of iPhones, the cameras operate at distances of 25-50 centimetres to power Apple’s Face ID facial-recognition feature. The company has been talking with Sony about testing sensors for their new system of cameras.
The difference between VR (Virtual Reality) and AR (Augmented Reality) is that while VR puts the user in a digitally created world with use of headphones, VR glasses, controllers and bodysuits to feel the full immersion of VR. AR puts visuals and data onto a view of the real world by use of cameras, so when the camera is recording or seeing the real thing the AR will put digitally created images, characters into that live camera view. Currently the appeal of AR is less but it is predicted to have a much wider market than VR. The laser-powered 3-D cameras could make their debut on iPad Pro update around 2020 spring. And for 2019, the company is planning to go with successor of iPhone XS and XS Max along with an updated iPhone XR. The XS Max which might have the three-camera setup on the back, other iPhones might also come with upgraded system as well. This is when Google Plus is officially deleting all your data

Last year in October, search giant Google had announced that it will be closing down its social networking platform, Google Plus (or Google+), for consumers after a security flaw exposed users’ profile data. Shortly after the announcement, Google+ faced another data leak and this made the technology giant quicken the process of shutting down its social networking platform. It was after this leak that the company decided to close down the platform in April 2019. And now, the technology giant has formally announced a new timeline about how and when Google+ will shut down. Starting February 4, users will no longer be able to create new Google+ profiles, pages, communities and events. Even the comments that are generated by Google+ on external websites will be removed from Blogger on the same date. Comments on other websites will be removed by March 7. All website comments that are made via Google+ will get deleted starting April 2, and on the same day, all of consumer Google+ content will also be deleted. However, the only exception to this is Google notes, and that is being kept for legal reasons. The Google notes content that will not be deleted includes photos and videos from Google+ in users’ Album Archive and on other Google+ pages. You can create and download an archive of your data before it is deleted if you wish to save it and Google has listed down instructions for the same on its support page. We should mention that if your photos and videos are backed up to Google Photos, they will not be deleted and will stay safe.
It is also worth noticing that if you have used Google+ to sign in to apps, this button will also stop working and you may have to re-login via Facebook or email. Some reports also suggest that it will be replaced by a Google sign-in button. In such cases, you will be signed in with our Google account instead of Google+. But we must add that you would still be able to access other Google services and Google+ shutdown will not affect that in any way. The search giant has also said that it will take some time to delete all the Google+ data, so there is a possibility that portions of account will be visible for a few months before it’s gone. Furthermore, G Suite customers will be able to access Google+, but then a new look and some additional features are also expected to surface on the social network for them. Considering that these headlines are just around the corner, you should act now and save your Google+ history while you can.
