Twitter for Mac app is confirmed to make a comeback

0

Popular microblogging website Twitter officially announced that it is planning to bring back its app on Mac desktops.

The microblogging website announced this in a post on its own platform saying, “Twitter is thrilled to announce we are bringing the Twitter for iPad experience to the Mac! The all-new Twitter for Mac will be in development this summer in preparation for an early launch on macOS 10.15 Catalina.”

According to a report by The Verge, the company made the announcement during Apple’s WWDC conference saying that the app would launch with Catalina and this new version would have a variety of features like dark mode, keyboard shortcuts, multiple windows, and notifications.

To recall, Twitter had discontinued its Mac desktop application in February 2018. After Apple unveiled Project Catalyst for macOS 10.15 Catalina, the company said that it’s bringing the program back.

In a post, the company also explained why it decided to discontinue the app last year. It says that historically, Twitter had a Mac app that shared the same roots as its app for iPhone. Over the years, Twitter for Mac and Twitter for iOS diverged as the company increasingly focused on its mobile apps. The company has also added that supporting the two separate codebases was no longer a sustainable option it and because of this, it ultimately had to close down the native Mac app.

Apple has also announced Project Catalyst for macOS 10.15 Catalina, that will make it easy for developers to bring their iPad projects to macOS as native Mac apps. The Cupertino-based technology giant’s Project Catalyst is Apple’s initiative to help developers port their iOS apps into Mac.

Speaking about it, Twitter also added, “We are excited that Project Catalyst will enable us to bring Twitter back to the Mac by leveraging our existing iOS codebase. We’ll also be able to add native Mac features on top of our existing iPad experience while keeping our maintenance efficient as we continue to improve this shared codebase in the years to come.”

Mac users are some of the most involved people on Twitter, and the app meant for the device has all the feature similar to Twitter’s other platforms. Some platform-specific features are also expected to be present. Mac users can Expect things like resizable windows with dynamic content, multiple windows support, native notifications, drag & drop and keyboard support. There may even be a few newer exciting features for the desktop.

Billions of iPhones and iPads are at the risk of getting hacked with this tool

0

If there is one thing that Apple has always boasted about, it’s the privacy that they provide to their customers. The company has always maintained that its iOS is far more advanced than other operating systems when it comes to keeping user data secure. Recently, the Cupertino-based technology giant also took wraps off its iOS 13, that will be seen in iPhones and iPads this year. However, prior to the rollout of the newest operating system by Apple, a company named Cellebrite that is known for its hacking capabilities has revealed that it can hack into any iPhone or iPad.

Cellebrite is an Israel based company and according to its revelation, it can hack into any iPhone or iPad running any version of the iOS. We should mention that according to Apple, there are 1.4 billion active devices running on iOS in 2019. If Cellebrite’s revelation is correct, then the same 1.4 billion Apple devices may be potentially at risk of getting hacked. However, we should also point out that the company has not made this claim only about iOS devices. It has also said that it can hack into any Android handset too.

We should mention that Cellebrite uses a hacking tool to accomplish these hacks and now, the company is also planning to sell it. The hacking tool is capable of extracting complete data from any iOS device’s system. However, it is worth adding that the tool requires the individual to have the physical possession of the device. Once he possesses the Apple device, he can use the hacking tool to break and enter the system. Currently, the hacking tool is being sold on eBay for $100 (approximately Rs 7,000). Needless to say, this is extremely dangerous as anyone can now buy the tool to hack into someone’s iPhone or iPad and extract data. It should be noted that the revelation of Cellebrite seems more real if we look at the fact that the FBI had collaborated with the company back in 2016 to crack an iPhone after Apple had refused to provide a backdoor to the FBI.

Apple will soon be rolling out the iOS 13 to its iPhones and iPads. If the tool by Cellebrite actually has the potential of breaking into any iPhone or iPad, we can expect Apple to find a fix and roll it out in the iOS 13. However, if this indeed happens, then those who will not be getting the upgrade to iOS 13 may face a big security concern.

0

Realme has already launched two new smartphones this year –Realme 3 and Realme 3 Pro. The company is also gearing up to launch its Realme X flagship smartphone in India soon. Before the launch of the device, a video has surfaced online which shows the box of the Realme 4 handset, that has not even been announced by the company yet. The video shows that the box is wrapped in plastic and has the number ‘4’ branding on it. Actually, all that the video really shows is Realme branding and the number ‘4’ written on it. This is the first ever leak of the upcoming device.

Huawei Mate 30 Pro will come with a 90Hz AMOLED display, to be launched in later months of 2019: Report

1

The last smartphone in the Mate-series that Huawei launched was the Mate 20 Pro, that sports a triple rear camera setup and garnered appreciation for its powerful performance. The handset was launched in 2018. This year, the Chinese technology brand has already launched its P30 Pro flagship device that has a quad camera setup that has support for 50X digital zoom. Now, reports have started surfacing online about the Huawei Mate 30 Pro smartphone, that claim that it will be launched in the later months of 2019.

The Chinese brand launches its P-series smartphones in the early months of the year while its Mate-series handsets are launched in the later months of the year. Huawei is said to be following the same strategy once again. Although the launch of the Mate 30 Pro is still months away, but that doesn’t mean that rumours and leaks about the device haven’t started pouring in.  According to some recent reports that have surfaced online, Huawei Mate 30 Pro will come with a 90Hz AMOLED display.

Prior to this, another report claimed that the Huawei Mate 30 Pro will house the same 4,200mAh battery as last year’s Mate 20 Pro. But this time, the smartphone will come with support for 55W fast charging.

Coming back to the recent report by IT Home, it says that Huawei Mate 30 Pro will come with a 90Hz AMOLED display, that is similar to the screen on OnePlus 7 Pro. The display of OnePlus 7 Pro was touted as one among the key features of the device because of the refresh rate that it offers.

Other than that, the Huawei Mate 30 Pro will reportedly be powered by the HiSilicon Kirin 985 7nm chipset with Barong 5000 5G baseband chip. We should mention that this means that it would come with 5G connectivity. In addition to this, some early concept renders of the smartphone show that the device will come with a hole-punch camera setup that will house dual front sensors, much like the Samsung Galaxy S10-series. On the back, there will be a quad-camera setup similar to the Huawei P30 Pro, according to reports. However, the exact camera configuration and details are currently not known and it is said that the device will come with 50x digital zoom along with 5x optical zoom.

The company is also said to be working with BOE for the display production of the Huawei Mate 30 Pro. There are reports that the device will come with a large 6.71-inch display that will have a fingerprint scanner embedded on it. We expect more concrete reports about the device to come forward as we move closer to its launch.

Criteria to choose VPN

Let’s say you decided to use VPN, but you don’t know how to choose a provider. No wonder, there’re more and more of them every day. Let’s find out how to choose a suitable app and what you should pay attention to.

Privacy and Safety

The first thing to learn about a VPN service is what extent of safety and anonymity it is ready to provide.

  1. Take notice of encryption protocols. Currently, IKEv2 is considered to be the most reliable protocol. But if this protocol isn’t on the list, it doesn’t mean that your data won’t be protected. OpenVPN, PPTP and L2TP/IPSec protocol provide some protection as well.
  2. Make sure that the provider’s logging policy is suitable for you. Ideally, if a service is ready to guarantee full anonymity, it just doesn’t record browsing history and has no logs. If intelligence services ask a company providing VPN services to give out logs, the company just has nothing to give out.
  3. Kill switch feature is an additional privacy option which instantly disables Internet connection if your VPN connection disconnects.

Bypassing Geo-Blocking

Unfortunately, some things on the Internet are not available for everyone. Access to content may be restricted in particular countries or regions by content owners or through legal action within a country (for example, in case of TikTok).

Staying in India, you can’t watch all the films and series stored in American Netflix or BBC iPlayer library. But if you connect to a server located in the USA or Great Britain, the lock is automatically released because IP-address looks “local” for these streaming services. Not all providers have geo-blocking bypassing service, but, let’s say, VPN99 allows to access any content from any point in the world from the very beginning.

Servers

how to choose vpn

Choosing a VPN provider, many ignore such an important criteria as a server network. Obviously, it’s a bad idea: you should look closely at a server network. The point is that giants like American Netflix and other similar services make efforts to detect VPN connections. It means that you can lose access to content anytime. But if a provider has a branched network of servers located in USA, it will immediately connect you to another server and you will continue to watch something just using another IP.

Availability of servers in countries where your private data can’t be accessed by corporations and governments interested in it is a great advantage. It is even better if a provider is registered in one of those countries. For example, in Seychelles, VPN99.

Apps

VPN apps may be different and have different sets of options. They should meet your needs. If you want to install VPN on your PC and a smartphone running Android, you need a service providing appropriate apps.

If you aren’t sure you can configure an app on your own, make sure it has default settings. A better option is when a provider has detailed installation guides on its site and a support service works 24/7.

Tariffs

You know that free VPN exists. But it’s unlikely that they can guarantee safety and anonymity. That’s why all experienced users recommend to choose a paid service.

But who wants to pay money for something they aren’t really into? Who knows, maybe this provider won’t be suitable for you. Therefore, choose providers with a refund guarantee. If this option is accompanied by a beneficial tariff, you’re lucky. Thus, for example, VPN99 services cost just $0,99 per months and the provider guarantees refund during the first 24 hours.

Evaluating VPN services providers by this criteria, you will quickly find what you need. We have already tested and checked the best providers for users from India and gave a rating to each of them using above-mentioned criteria. VPN99 was rated higher than any other, so we highly recommend it.

Tencent launches its first overseas video streaming platform in Thailand named WeTv

0

Video streaming services have gained tremendous popularity in the last few years and Netflix and Hulu are the best examples of this. A number of other video services like Disney+ and AppleTV will also be launched in the near future. Amid this growing culture, Tencent Holdings, the Chinese tech giant has launched its first overseas video streaming service named WeTv in Thailand. With the launch of a new service, Tencent is planning to expand its business and its presence in other countries as well.

Tencent is known for its businesses in the fields of entertainment, gaming, internet related services, artificial intelligence (AI) and much more. In fact, the company’s gaming business is one of the biggest in the world. But in the first quarter of 2019 saw Tencent move away from its core gaming business in China as it got into some regulatory problems. Due to this, it had the slowest revenue growth in the first quarter.

As mentioned above, Tencent is trying to expand its business and reach into other countries in order to diversifying its business. According to Jeff Han, Senior Vice President of Tencent Penguin Pictures, since the company already has a large user base in Thailand, it decided to make the country the first target for its video streaming service. It should also be noted that Tencent Penguin Pictures produces the original content for the streaming business.

“This is the market we need to first enter to try to see whether an overseas launch could be a success for us, so we can continue the challenge. We have our priority markets… the Chinese-speaking markets, which will be more receptive to our offerings,” said Jeff Han to the reporters in group interview in Bangkok.

Currently, Tencent’s video streaming platform has over 89 million subscribers in China with more than 200 million daily active users. With the launch of WeTv, Tencent’s video streaming platform has seen an increase of 43% subscription in the first quarter of the year.

Tencent’s WeTv in Thailand will be producing original Chinese content from Tencent Penguin Pictures and later, it will be dubbed to Thai. The company will also be partnering with other local partners to produce the content for the viewers in the country. Other than the original content for video streaming service, WeTv is also adding to the Tencent’s music streaming service named JOOX. It should be noted that the company earlier released a mobile version of the popular battleroyale game PUBG in Thailand. But the company of Han didn’t comment about the amount of investment the company was making for WeTv.

OnePlus leaked email IDs of hundreds of users via its app: Report

If you have a smartphone from OnePlus, you would know that the smartphones come preloaded with the ‘Shot on OnePlus’ app. Today, a report has surfaced online that claims that a security flaw has been found in the app that has revealed email IDs of hundreds of users. For those unaware, we should mention that the app is a place where users can upload interesting shots that have been clicked by their OnePlus device so that other users can pick them for wallpapers of their own handsets.

However, the report says that the API that establishes the link between the OnePlus server and the app was leaking the email IDs that were linked with these photo submissions. The company was made aware of the security flaw in May this year. While the smartphone maker has rolled out a fix for the bug, more changes are required to make sure that it is completely rectified.

Any user who wishes to upload photos to the ‘Shot on OnePlus’ app needs to submit his email ID before he does so. Once these images are uploaded, the photos that are selected are released to all OnePlus users via the API that was found to have the security flaw. The report about this first surfaced on 9to5Google, and it revealed that the API required an unencrypted key to retrieve an access token. This lets people view the addresses of those who uploaded the images. It is worth adding that the API was hosted on open.oneplus.net.

The report further adds, “It is unclear for how long this leak was happening, but because OnePlus had no reason to make this data public after the application was out, we believe is was leaking data since its release — multiple years, at least.”

We should add that a ‘gid’ is needed in API to identify users, find photos and delete them on the server. However, this is comprised of two alphabets and unique numbers that can be used to access sensitive data like the name, email IDs, countries from users are uploading images and more. It can also potentially modify the information.

The only thing that OnePlus has said about this security flaw is, “OnePlus takes security seriously, and we investigate all reports we receive.” But then, it is worth adding that the company has made a few changes to the API in order to fix the flaw that led to the leaking of the email IDs. However, the report in 9to5Google also adds that the fixes made can be bypassed too.

As of now, there are no reports regarding the user details being exploited that have surfaced. OnePlus is also expected to take learning out of this experience and implement a better security system on its platform.

Google launches Game Builder that lets you make 3D video games

3

There is no doubt that these days, Google is taking gaming very seriously. The company has already announced its Stadia service and will make it available in a few countries later this year. Now, the technology giant has launched Game Builder, that is free and easy to use tool for PC and macOS users who desire to build their own 3D games without having to know how to code.

The company’s Area 120 team introduced Google Game Builder last year in November. For those unaware, Area 120 is an in-house unit that is popular for some of its experimental projects

The company’s blog post says “What if creating games could be as easy and fun as playing them? What if you could enter a virtual world with your friends and build a game together in real time? Our team within Area 120, Google’s workshop for experimental projects, took on this challenge. Our prototype is called Game Builder, and it is free on Steam for PC and Mac.”

As mentioned earlier, Google says you can build a simple 3D game in 10 minutes on the Game Builder and it has been designed for all skill levels – from first-time game developers to experts.

In addition to this, the new tool aims to make constructing a game seem like playing a game. It says if you’ve crafted a fort or dug a mine in a game, you already know how to build a 3D level in Game Builder.

The coolest part of the tool is that multiple users can build (or play) at the same time. You can even include friends to play the game as you work on it.

Other than this, you can bring your games to life with Game Builder’s card-based visual programming system. All you have to do is Drag and drop cards to “answer” questions, such as, “How do I move?”

By doing this, you can make moving platforms, scoreboards, healing potions, drivable cars and more.

You can build your own cards with Javascript. Game Builder consists of extensive API which allows you to draft a lot of things in the game. All the code is live, so just make a change and save it, no compiling will be required.

If you always wished to build a video game but didn’t know where and how to start, check out Game Builder on Steam. There are numerous options available to craft your characters. You just have to Find 3D models on Google Poly and use them in your game instantly.
