Google to roll out smart features and personalisation settings for Google apps including Gmail

The tech giant Google will be adding a toggle to personalise your Google apps. For this, it has introduced two new settings allowing the users to control Google smart features and personalisation in their Gmail, Meet and Chats. So now you can easily turn off smart features such as tabbed inbox, Smart Compose and Smart Reply in Gmail; reminders when your bills are due in the Google Assistant; and restaurant reservations in Google Maps. As per the recent blog post by Google, soon the users will be able to get control of their data in Gmail, Meet and Chat with the help of new settings. This will bring the ability to enable or disable some of these individual smart features such as sorting your emails into different inbox tabs, like Social or Promotions, allowing Gmail to help you write emails faster using the Smart Compose feature. You can even turn on or off the smart reply feature in Gmail and Google Assistant reminders, calendar events, summary cards and more. The upcoming setting will allow all the users if they want to continue using these smart features and giving you choice over the data processing that makes them possible. The blog post says, “The ability to turn on (or not) some of these individual smart features is not new. What’s new is a clearer choice over the data processing that makes them possible. These new Google settings are designed to reduce the work of understanding and managing that process, in view of what we’ve learned from user experience research and regulators’ emphasis on comprehensible, actionable user choices over data.” Option to personalize other Google products with Gmail, Chat and Meet data Those who are unaware of, Google allows smart features in Gmail, Chat and Meet allowing personalisation based on your content. It allows automatic email filtering, smart compose, summary cards above emails (travel, package e tracking and more) and extracting event details to create calendar entries. So, when you choose to turn this off then this will disable or degrade the performance of the above features and more. And at any time if you want to go back to the older settings you can easily turn the smart settings on. In addition to this, it also sends assistant reminders of your bills that are due while maps display restaurant reservations, travels bundling your itineraries and GPay surfacing loyalty cards and tickets. These features can be easily disabled and can turn this back on in Gmail settings. According to the tech giant, Google ads are not based on your personal data in Gmail, no matter which choice you make. And you are said to remain in control of your data, whether you’re an individual Gmail user or a Google Workspace administrator. “If you decide not to use smart features and personalization, you will still be able to use Gmail and our other products. And if you decide later on that these features are helpful and you’d like to turn them on, you can do so in your Gmail settings. At home or at work, the choice should be yours. And we’re always working to keep it simple,” the blog post stated. SpaceX’s Starlink reportedly provides 175Mbps Internet speed in adverse weather conditions

0
Starlink, which is a space satellite-Internet service by SpaceX, reportedly provides its users rapid speeds that reaches 175Mbps even during adverse weather situation. According to a Business Insider report, the Reddit Starlink community showcased posts by users of SpaceX’s “Better Than Nothing Beta” in order to prove that the Starlink terminal still works during storm, deep snow, and freezing temperatures. The Reddit Starlink community further notified that there was no deposit of snow on or underneath the terminal that comes with the Starlink kit. On the other hand, a few users reported that while the speed still seemed tolerable, zoom call kept dropping audios and video like it had big swings in ping. With performance that far surpasses that of traditional satellite internet, and a global network unbounded by ground infrastructure limitations, Starlink aims to deliver high speed broadband Internet to locations where access has been unreliable, expensive, or completely unavailable. Starlink is targeting service in the Northern U.S. and Canada in 2020, rapidly expanding to near global coverage of the populated world by 2021. SpaceX’s Starlink is on the leading edge of on-orbit debris mitigation, meeting or exceeding all regulatory and industry standards. At end of life, the satellites will utilize their on-board propulsion system to deorbit over the course of a few months. In the unlikely event the propulsion system becomes inoperable, the satellites will burn up in Earth’s atmosphere within 1-5 years, significantly less than the hundreds or thousands of years required at higher altitudes. Meanwhile, NASA has also announced it has certified SpaceX’s Falcon 9 and Crew Dragon human spaceflight system for crew missions to and from the International Space Station – the first commercial system in history to achieve such designation. Not since the certification of the space shuttle nearly 40 years ago has NASA certified a spacecraft, rocket, and ground support systems for regular flights with astronauts. Launched atop Falcon 9 on May 30, 2020, Dragon’s second demonstration flight test to and from the space station restored human spaceflight to the United States for the first time in almost a decade. That flight was the culmination of years of development, testing, and training—all throughout safety remained SpaceX’s top priority. SpaceX put every component of every system through its paces, including two flight tests to and from the International Space Station, demonstrations of Dragon’s escape system both on the launch pad and in-flight, over 700 tests of the spacecraft’s SuperDraco engines, more than 500 joint soft-capture docking tests to validate the performance of Dragon’s docking system design, about 8,000,000 hours of hardware in the loop software testing, and nearly 100 tests and flights of Dragon’s parachutes to ensure a safe landing back on Earth—in addition to all of the knowledge gained from twenty previous successful cargo resupply missions to the space station and over forty Falcon 9 block 5 launches. Google Cloud introduces new serverless Database Migration Service

0
Google Cloud has launched the new serverless Database Migration Service (DMS) as part of its vision to meet the modern needs in a way that’s easier, faster, more predictable, and more reliable. The tech giant has further revealed that enterprises across all industries are answering the call to move their business infrastructure, and with that their databases, to the cloud. Asserting that the database migrations can be a challenge for enterprises, Andi Gutmans, General Manager and Vice President of Engineering, Databases, said, “That’s why we give our customers a uniquely easy, secure, and reliable experience with DMS. We worked with dozens of customers around the world, including Samsung Electronics, Adwerx, Affle, Cirruseo (Accenture), Guichê Virtual, and Ryde, to successfully migrate their production databases with minimal downtime using DMS. So, what is it exactly that makes DMS different?” DMS provides a fast and seamless migration to Cloud SQL, the fully managed database service for MySQL, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server. By migrating to Cloud SQL, one not only benefit from its enterprise-grade availability, security, and stability, but you also get unique integrations with the rest of Google Cloud, including Google Kubernetes Engine and BigQuery. “We needed to create live dashboards built on top of BigQuery that pulled data from both on-premises and cloud sources. Google Cloud’s Database Migration Service made this easy for us,” says Sofiane Kihal, Engineer, Cirruseo (Accenture). “Using its continuous replication, we were able to migrate data to Cloud SQL and then query directly using federation from BigQuery. Additionally, using Cloud SQL as a managed service for MySQL has allowed us to reduce the time we spend on operations by over 75 percent.” According to Google Cloud, “DMS provides high-fidelity, minimal downtime migrations for MySQL and PostgreSQL workloads. We designed it to be truly cloud-native—built by and for the cloud. DMS utilizes log shipping to replicate data at super-low latencies from the source database to the destination. It streams the initial snapshot of data, then catches up and continuously replicates new data as it arrives in the source.” Stating that the source and destination are continuously up to date because they rely on the databases’ own native replication capabilities, Gutmans said, “This replication technique maximizes the fidelity of data transferred with very low latency. That means you can decide when you’re ready to promote your database, then just point your application to Cloud SQL as the primary database, with minimal downtime.” For the latest gadget and tech news, and gadget reviews, follow us on TwitterFacebook and Instagram. For newest tech & gadget videos subscribe to our YouTube Channel. Apple to soon provide a fix for iPhone 12 hearing aid sound issues

0
Apple Support has now revealed if the Made for iPhone hearing device has sound quality issues when connected to an iPhone 12 model, the tech giant is aware of this issue and will provide a fix in a future software update. According to Apple, “You might hear unexpected noise from some Made for iPhone hearing devices. When your Made for iPhone hearing device is connected to your iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, or iPhone 12 Pro Max, you might notice loud static, interrupted or intermittent audio, garbled audio. All that one has to ensure that they are using the latest version of iOS.” Earlier, news report has revealed that the latest beta version of iOS 14.2 on iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max comes with a feature that can help one detect how far the other person is from them. According to a TechCrunch report, this feature to help visually impaired will be introduced on iPhone 12 Pro as well as iPhone Pro Max running the iOS 14.2. Moreover, it’s ARKit, Apple’s augmented reality (AR) platform for iOS devices, which paves way for this interesting feature. ARKit 4 introduces a brand-new Depth API, creating a new way to access the detailed depth information gathered by the LiDAR Scanner on iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, and iPad Pro. In the Sample Code Occluding Virtual Content with Disable People, Apple revealed that “You might choose to disable people occlusion for performance reasons if, for example, no virtual content is present in the scene, or if the device has reached a serious or critical thermalState. To temporarily disable people occlusion, remove that option from your app’s frameSemantics. Then, rerun your session to effect the configuration change.” The tech giant further added that by default, virtual content covers anything in the camera feed. For example, when a person passes in front of a virtual object, the object is drawn on top of the person, which can break the illusion of the AR experience. And to cover your app’s virtual content with people that ARKit perceives in the camera feed, you enable people occlusion. Your app can then render a virtual object behind people who pass in front of the camera. ARKit accomplishes the occlusion by identifying regions in the camera feed where people reside, and preventing virtual content from drawing into that region’s pixels. Arkit 4 also helps detect up to 100 images at a time and get an automatic estimate of the physical size of the object in the image. 3D object detection is more robust, as objects are better recognized in complex environments. And now, machine learning is used to detect planes in the environment even faster.
