Comes without holes, buttons and ports
This seems to be the next big trend in the smartphone industry. The day before yesterday, Meizu announced its holeless smartphone named Zero, and just a day later, Vivo unveiled its Apex 2019 concept phone that does not have any holes, buttons or ports on its body. Although it’s just a concept right now, the company has given a fair idea about how it will work without these. Read on to find out.
The screen also doubles as a speaker
Vivo Apex 2019 sports a 6.39-inch AMOLED display that has the piezoelectric transducer technology. This technology enables the screen of the device to emit sound. This may be impressive, but it is not the key highlight of the display. Want to what that is? Read on…
Has full-display fingerprint scanning
Yes, you read that right. The display of Vivo Apex 2019 concept phone comes with full-display fingerprint scanning. This means that you can place your finger anywhere on the smartphone’s screen to unlock the device. This makes the fingerprint sensor of Vivo Apex 2019 the most-advanced in the smartphone industry.
Is powered by the most powerful processor in the world and has 5G support
Vivo Apex 2019 concept smartphone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 SoC, which is the latest and the most powerful processor available in the market. With this processor, the Vivo Apex 2019 gets support for 5G networks.
Packs a massive RAM
Another factor that makes the Vivo Apex 2019 powerful is that it packs 12GB of RAM. The smartphone will be available in 256GB and 512GB storage options.
Here’s how the charging works
Vivo Apex 2019 comes with MagPort, a magnetic connector that has to be attached on the back panel of the smartphone for charging and data transfer. It works in a similar way to Moto Mods.
Cameras on the device
The smartphone comes with a dual rear camera setup with 12MP and 13MP sensors coupled with an LED flash. However, there is no word on the selfie camera of the smartphone and neither is it visible in pictures. So we will have to wait till company reveals more about the Vivo Apex 2019.
How to switch it on?
Vivo Apex 2019 has a combination of capacitive touch and pressure-sensing on its side edge. These replace the physical power and volume rocker buttons that are used otherwise.
Will be present at the MWC 2019
Vivo Apex 2019 will be present at the Mobile World Congress 2019, which is scheduled to begin on February 25. We expect to find out more details about the device, like its IP rating or whether or not it supports wireless charging at the event.
Just a concept
We should mention that as of now, Vivo Apex 2019 is a concept phone. So the company is very likely to make certain changes to it before launching it commercially. We’ll update you as more details about it come in!

Meizu Zero is being marketed at the ‘world’s first holeless phone’ as it comes without ports, speaker holes, buttons. The device doesn’t even have a SIM-card slot. Meizu Zero’s body is basically a slab made of ceramic that is nearly seamless. We call it nearly seamless because the smartphone has a camera bump on its back panel that is slightly protruding. We should also mention that Meizu Zero has microphone holes on its bottom edge.
One thing about Meizu Zero that we found to be very similar to Samsung Galaxy S9 is its display. The smartphone has a 5.99-inch AMOLED display that has a chin that looks a lot like the one we saw on Samsung’s flagship device. It also has a bezel on the top instead of the notch, much like Galaxy S9. We should point out that Meizu Zero has a fingerprint scanner embedded on its display.
The display of Meizu Zero comes with the company’s ‘mSound 2.0’ technology that is supposed to enable it to function as a speaker. This reminds us of the linear vibrator technology that we saw on Vivo NEX last year. For those unaware, in Vivo NEX, the sound was transmitted through the phone and relayed via the screen.
Needless to say, Meizu Zero can only be charged wirelessly. However, it is worth noticing that the smartphone has support for a speed of up to 18W through its ‘Super mCharge Wireless’ technology. This surpasses Apple’s 7.5W and Samsung’s 9W speeds.
Meizu Zero uses the haptic feedback system to offer virtual buttons on the side edge that replace the physical power and volume rocker keys. These can be used to turn the smartphone on or off and to adjust the volume of the device.
As we mentioned earlier, Meizu Zero does not have a SIM card slot at all. So, users will have to use an e-SIM instead of a physical SIM card if they are interested in buying the smartphone.
The Chinese smartphone brand has not shed much light on the specifications of the upcoming device. However, it did reveal that Meizu Zero will be powered by last year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor.
If you are an interested buyer, you would be happy to know that Meizu Zero will come with an IP68 rating. This means that Meizu Zero will be waterproof and dustproof.
Although as of now, there is no word on the rest of the specifications or the pricing of the smartphone, we can expect to hear more about it at Mobile World Congress that is scheduled to begin on February 25.
