Micromax Q372 Unite 3 Review: A nice budget smartphone with menus in 10 Indian languages

Budget smartphones are usually aimed at the youngsters of the society. Micromax has got yet another budget smartphone in the Indian market that is in the budget segment. Called the Q372 Unite 3, we got to review it recently and this is what we could make of it. Design The Micromax Q372 Unite 3 is available in blue and white colours. We received a white unit for review and quite liked its built. The phones white back panel is grippy and one can hold the phone nicely. The white panel has a silver metal trim along the sides that gives this phone the edge. The Micromax Q372 Unite 3 screen has Corning Gorilla Glass over a 4.7-inch display. This IPS LCD capacitive display comes with 16 million colours. The mobile phone is not that heavy and is very comfortable to use, even with just one hand. Under the rear removable plastic panel, there is a battery that can be removed, two Micro SIM card slots and a Micro SD card slot. The power button is located on the right side of the phone along with the volume key. The USB port is located at the bottom of the phone and the 3.5mm headset jack is located at the top of the mobile phone. The primary camera is on the top right (rear) of the mobile phone, which comes with the LED flash. A neat pair of headphones also come in the box for music lovers. Performance The Micromax Q372 Unite 3 has a 1.3GHz Cortex-A7 Quad-Core processor that comes with 1GB of RAM that try to make the applications and services run as smoothly as possible. The users also get 8GB of internal memory to store files. And there is also the option to add up to a 32GB microSD card to store additonal files. All this runs on the Mediatek MT6582M chiptset. For graphics a Mali-400MP2 is also on board. Other features include accelerometer sensor, proximity sensor and HTML5 for browsing. The primary camera of Micromax Q372 Unite 3 comes with auto focus and can capture 8-megapixel still images along with HD playback and recording. For selfies, there is a 2-megapixel secondary camera. The rear camera captures very decent pictures, but in low light and dark areas, the picture quality was not up to the mark. Macro shots on the other hand were quite good. The front camera could have been better. We were not particularly happy with the selfie shots it was able to produce. We were able to play most apps and low-end games on the phone without any hassles. But, the mobile phone started to heat up and hung a little when we tried out some graphic hungry games. Also, the game loudspeaker volume could have been better. Talking about which, we faced no problems when it came to audio and call quality on the Micromax Q372 Unite 3. The supplied headphones are really nice. Screen, image and video quality is also above average and we quite liked what we saw. Moving on to its battery life, the Micromax Q372 Unite 3 has 2,120 mAh interchangeable battery inside it. It worked for 20 hours staright after a full charge (under nominal use).  We tested the phone with Quadrant and it managed to score 4,710, that puts it right in the middle of the pack. Verdict The Micromax Q372 Unite 3 is built for the masses. No matter which Indian language you speak there is menu available for you in your native tongue. It has the Android Lollipop 5.0 OS too. It comes preloaded with Unite Lens, CleanMaster, Apps Center, Snapdeal, SwiftKey, Newshunt, Quikr, and Hotstar apps. We would like to give a special mention to the Mad app that enables the users to earn money for watching videos. The experience was quite smooth throughout. Except for the minor heating issues and the front camera the phone is decent for the buck spent on it. The company has priced the Micromax Q372 Unite 3 for Rs 7,999. People can get the mobile phone for Rs 6,027 at any online retail store. Pros

Read on to know more about this mid segment offering from Microsoft. Design The Microsoft Lumia 640 is available in an array of colours, which include orange, white, matte black, blue etc. We got our hands on the orange one to review. The Lumia 640 design is distinctive and colourful. It has a bright coloured plastic body (which we quite liked). The Microsoft Lumia 640’s body has a soft rectangular shape display with high gloss finish. This mobile phone has rounded corners, which gives a good look to the phone. The 5-inch display has vibrant colours and we loved every bit of it. This IPS LCD capacitive display comes with 16 million colours. The screen has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 over it for protection. The mobile phone is 8.8mm thick and weighs 145g. The minimalistic design of the mobile phone is very impressive. At the back of the mobile phone, we have a removable plastic panel that fits well with the frame. Under this removable plastic panel, there is a removable battery, two Micro SIM card slots and a Micro SD card slot. Also at the back, Microsoft has installed a loud speaker at the bottom right of the mobile phone. The power button is located on the right side of the phone along with the volume key. The USB port is located at the bottom of the phone and the 3.5mm headset jack is located at the top of the mobile. The primary camera is on the top left (rear) of the mobile phone, which comes with the LED flash. A neat pair of headphones also come in the box. Performance The Microsoft Lumia 640 has the 1.2GHz Cortex-A7 Quad-Core processor that comes along with 1GB of RAM for applications and services. The users also get 8GB of internal memory to store files. This we feel could have been slightly more. However, there is the option to add up to a 128GB microSD card to store additonal files. All this runs on the Qualcomm MSM8926 Snapdragon 400 chiptset. For graphics an Adreno 305 is also on board. Other features includes Gyroscope sensor, Accelerometer sensor and Compass sensor. The mobile phone also features HTML5 for browsing. The primary camera of Microsoft Lumia 640 comes with auto focus and can capture 8-megapixel still images along with HD videos. For selfies, there is a 1-megapixel secondary camera. The camera captures very decent pictures, but in low light and dark areas, the picture quality was not up to the mark. Macro shots on the other hand were quite good. The mobile phone runs most of the apps without any hassles. But, one can’t play high end games on this device. We faced no problems when it came to audio and call quality on the Microsoft Lumia 640. The supplied headphones are really nice. Screen, image and video quality is also above average. Moving on to its battery life, the Microsoft Lumia 640 has 2,500 mAh interchangeable battery inside it. It worked for 19 hours after a full charge (under nominal use).  We tested the phone with AnTuTu Benchmark and it managed to score 11,983 points, which is a nice score for this mobile phone in the mid segment of smartphones. Verdict The Microsoft Lumia 640 has some great features in it. It comes with Microsoft Windows 8.1 with Lumia Denim update. This mobile phone has an impressive display, which comes with many vibrant colours. The experience was pretty much smooth throughout. People can get the mobile phone for Rs 8,999 at any online retail store. We must conclude it’s a great deal at this price. Only if Microsoft had added 16 GB of memory instead of 8 GB it would have been a steal. Pros

Get a room! in seconds anywhere in India. Tete-a-tete with Anurag Gaggar of OYO Rooms

Oyo Rooms is the hottest new hotel booking app in the country. It has taken the hotel booking industry by storm and the men behind it are enjoying the sunny days, even though it’s the monsoon season in India. We caught up with Anurag Gaggar, Vice President, Product management, Oyo Room to pick his brains. We threw some tough ones at him and he did fairly well. Here is what he had to tell us. 1) What was the thought behind creating the OYO Rooms app? Many of our customers prefer using smartphones over a desktop/laptop; while for some, it is their only gateway to the internet. Hence, we thought of developing a smartphone app that could redefine guest experience by taking out the hassle of pre-bookings and enabling last-minute bookings. Smartphones are location-aware, always-on and offer a much more interactive and personalized experience. Imagine being able to book the nearest OYO in just 3 taps and in less than 5 seconds – with our app, we allow building such powerful and beautiful interactions. 2) Can you tell our readers what does this app actually do, any over-the-top features? Our app allows you to search and book any OYO hotel in over 30 cities of India within seconds. The search and booking experience is super fast – aided by the fact that we have standardized, quality-checked offering on the ground that eliminates the need to do a lot of research before booking a hotel. We offer the first-of-its-kind room service experience where you can order for tea/coffee or call room service from within your mobile app. You can book a cab to the hotel, see nearby restaurants and get personalized offers – all of this blended into a beautiful and functional interface. 3) How well has the Indian audience responded to it and the hotel owners? We have received a tremendous response to the app with over 2,50,000 downloads till date, with excellent feedback and a sizeable number of bookings now coming from the apps. We frequently show up as a featured app on Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Many of our hotel owners have also downloaded our app and love how technology is driving more business for them. For the hotel owners, who are not present all the time at their hotels, gives them great satisfaction to see a sold out tag on their hotel in the app, as they realize how partnering with OYO has helped their business. 4) How much discount does one get while booking with your app? We keep running different promotions from time to time and keep informing our customers through in-app notifications and other modes. For the readers of Gadget Bridge, we have a special promo code OYOGB50 that gives a 50% discount (max Rs. 1000) on your first booking through the OYO Rooms app. This offer is valid for bookings and check-ins done before August 31, 2015. 5) How many hotels and properties has OYO rooms been able to tap in India? OYO Rooms is India’s largest branded network of hotels with more than 700 hotels and 10,000 rooms in more than 30 cities across the country. 6) Any plans to go overseas? At the moment, our focus is to let every traveler in India have the OYO experience. We aim to have 4,000 hotels and 50,000 rooms across 50 cities by the end of this year. However, in future we would love to offer the OYO experience to travelers from all over the world. 7) Last words, thoughts that you would like to share with our readers. I strongly believe that technology has the potential to bring a significant transformation in the hospitality sector. Leveraging technology can promote growth, bring innovation and serve both the consumer and the business better by controlling end-to-end experience of our guests from booking through check out. At OYO, technology is at the center of our relationship with the consumer – bringing in operational efficiencies in our everyday dealings with our hotel partners as well as redefining the way the customer interacts with the brand.
