Vivo TWS Neo true wireless earphones review: Ticks all the boxes

So far Apple and Samsung were the two companies ruling the premium wireless audio segment. Apple has a premium range of Apple EarPods while Samsung offers Galaxy Buds. And to heat up the competition, Chinese companies such as OnePlus, Oppo, Vivo Realme are coming forward in their own shade of wireless earphones. For many, Apple AirPods and Samsung’s Galaxy Buds are out of reach. Which is why lesser expensive TWS earphones can take a piece of the pie.

The newly arrived earphones Vivo TWS Neo not only come at a lucrative price but also offers a premium feel both in design and in audio quality. We have been using these earbuds for about a month now and today we have brought the review of Vivo Neo true wireless earphones for you that will help you understand if these earphones are worth investing in? So, let’s see what new Vivo has brought with these earbuds, which make them different from other rival brands.

In This Article

Design

Talking about the design first Vivo TWS Neo true wireless earphones form factor is mostly inspired by the Apple AirPods with subtle changes. Vivo has brought an affordable option by offering these earphones in the mid-range category. We got the starry blue colour to play with that looks fantastic with its glossy finish. The company also offers these in Moonlight White colour option as well. The casing is so small it can be carried in your pocket or clutch bag. The charging case, as well as the TWS earphones, are super light. When worn also you don’t feel any weight on your ears. One point of contention here, the glossy finish does attract a fair share of finger smudges so keep a cloth handy.

Vivo TWS Neo true wireless earphones review

The LED indicator is positioned on the front side while the Type C charging port is given down below. Another thing that cannot be overlooked about the Vivo TWS Neo true wireless earphones is that while opening and shutting the charging case, the lid voice is a little bit loud and it wobbles too. As the earphones come with a price tag of Rs 5,990 this thing cannot be neglected. Furthermore, these do not support wireless charging.

Performance

Now let’s know more about the earbuds features and tech specs. The Vivo TWS earphones are supported by Bluetooth 5.2 for connectivity. APTX Codec is also present and is IP54 certified for water resistance. These earphones equip 14.2mm drivers in addition to touch control that will let you play/pause music, change the track, answer or end a call and even reject also. Furthermore, you can also wake up Google Assistant or Siri with volume control. In addition to this, all these gestures can be customised as per your need with the help of your Vivo smartphone only but will not work on other phones.

Vivo TWS Neo true wireless earphones review

One thing we really like about the Vivo TWS Neo true wireless earphones is that its touch control is very responsive. Which is kind of a double-edged sword, the accidental touch will lead to play/pause of a music track. Apart from this, you get wear detection that works really well so we liked the overall user experience of these earphones.

Now talking about the fit and comfort, which is subjective, but sharing our personal experience here. It fitted well into our ear canal but at the same time when we asked some others to wear these to know how well it fits and comfort level, we got the feedback that their experience was not as good as ours. Since these did not fit well in their ears. So comfort and fit depend on person to person. This is also because there are no silicon tips on the earphones which can be replaced in accordance with each ear cavity type.

Now coming to another important aspect of the Vivo TWS earphones that is connectivity. In terms of connectivity, we did not have any problem while using outdoors or indoors. But the range could have been better because when the phone was put on a charge in the room while we were in the balcony, the music would suddenly disappear. So in close range, it works perfectly well, but if you put a wall or two in between then no so much.

Vivo TWS Neo review

Let’s talk about the audio quality now. We loved hearing music on the earphones. The vocals, the instruments and the highs were clean and crisp. So, the audio profile you get is well balanced, however, we felt the bass was a bit weaker. Also, as per the size of the audio drivers, we did not find its sound too loud but the clarity it delivers is just fantastic, which you would definitely adore. If you are into heavy bass then it’s not for you.

Oh yes, when paired with the high-end Vivo smartphones you can also experience the DeepX stereo sound effect.

In terms of latency, the Vivo TWS earphones have low latency rate while you are gaming or watching videos. So gamers can pick them up. As for call quality, it is the best we have experienced till now. Noise cancellation is also good. You get to hear clean audio and at the same time, the caller on the other side will hear you well.

Coming to the last aspect that is the battery life which runs longer than you would imagine. It can last for over 22 hours. The charging case takes almost 1 hour 30 minutes to charge completely which is worth noting.

Vivo TWS Neo review

Verdict

The overall experience is quite good but we do think the price could have been lower. The DeepX stereo sound is not for all users so just to experience this feature fully users would need to purchase a Vivo smartphone. Other than that Vivo TWS Neo is a fantastic piece of audio companion.

Apple announced a rise in apps as well as in-app purchases

The Cupertino-based tech giant Apple has announced soon App Store prices will be increased in five countries including India. According to the company app as well as in-app purchases made via the App Store will see an increase in prices. Apart from India the list of the countries to see the changes are Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, Russia, and South Africa. The new development will come into effect within a few days and the upgraded pricing will be reflected in the Pricing and Availability section of My Apps via Apple Developer.

Apple made an announcement about the latest development on the upcoming tax as well as a surge in price for apps and in-app purchases through Apple Developer. As per the company, the price changes have been made due to taxes or foreign exchange rates change. The prices will be updated on the App Store in the next few days. However auto-renewable subscriptions will not see any changes.

As per the company, the update prices on the App Store will be applicable to Brazil, Colombia, India, Indonesia, Russia, and South Africa. In India, these increases also reflect a new equalization levy of 2% (in addition to the existing goods and services tax of 18%) while in Indonesia a new value-added tax of 10% for developers based outside of the country.

The company said, “When taxes or foreign exchange rates change, we sometimes need to update prices on the App Store. In the next few days, prices of apps and in-app purchases (excluding auto-renewable subscriptions) on the App Store will increase in Brazil, Colombia, India, Indonesia, Russia, and South Africa.”

In addition to this, the prices of apps and in-app purchases will be adjusted in Iceland and Albania to align with pricing used in other markets selling in U.S. dollars with value-added tax excluding auto-renewable subscriptions.

The updated price tier char is now available for download for the developers and once it comes into effect this will be reflected in the Pricing and Availability section of My Apps. Apple says the proceeds will be adjusted accordingly and calculated based on the tax-exclusive price. “You can change the price of your apps and in-app purchases (including auto-renewable subscriptions) at any time in App Store Connect. If you offer subscriptions, you can choose to preserve prices for existing subscribers,” the company added.

Facebook’s Cloud-gaming Service not available on iOS devices: Everything you must know

0

In order to deliver unrestricted access to games across every screen, Facebook Gaming has now launched several cloud-streamed games in the Facebook app and on browser that are playable instantly, with no downloads required. However, Facebook revealed that cloud games will not be available on iOS. Therefore, only Android and web players will enjoy integrated cloud games on Facebook as of now.

Mind you! Cloud-streamed games are currently rolling out on Facebook Gaming in two formats:

  1. Full, free-to-play mobile games in a re-launched destination for Play.
  2. Cloud playable ads so people can instantly try out a game on Facebook.

“Even with Apple’s new cloud games policy, we don’t know if launching on the App Store is a viable path. Of course, there is always the open Internet, so mobile browsers may wind up being an option, but there are limitations to what we can offer on Safari. While our iOS path is uncertain, one thing is clear. Apple treats games differently and continues to exert control over a very precious resource. Stay tuned as we work out the best way for people to play games when and how they want, regardless of what device they bought,” said Jason Rubin, VP of Play at Facebook.

Asserting that Cloud gaming announcements are prone to hype, Jason added, “We believe in the long-term future of cloud gaming, but we aren’t going to try to wow you with the wonders of our data centers, compression algorithms, resolutions, or frames per second. Cloud game streaming for the masses still has a way to go, and it’s important to embrace both the advantages and the reality of the technology rather than try to oversell where it’ll be in the future.”

Besides this, Facebook Gaming also notified that is not trying to replace your favorite gaming hardware. It stated that Facebook loves both console and PC gaming. The Mark Zuckerberg- led company believes cloud gaming will increase — not replace — the options to jump into great games.

Cloud gaming is about expanding the types of games Facebook Gaming already offers. Therefore, the company starts with free-to-play games as people love playing that. It also assured masses that the cost of trying our cloud games is $0.

With the launch of the beta for cloud-streamed games on Facebook Gaming, a range of mobile-native games in Android APK formats will be available this week. The list includes Asphalt 9: Legends by Gameloft; Mobile Legends: Adventure by Moonton; PGA TOUR Golf Shootout by Concrete Software, Inc.; Solitaire: Arthur’s Tale by Qublix Games; and WWE SuperCard by 2K. It was further revealed that Facebook Gaming will add Dirt Bike Unchained by Red Bull, and we’ll continue to test new experiences and expand the games library in number, type, and genre.

Acer Nitro 5 2020 edition gaming laptop review: Damn good for gamers

1

Acer has been building laptops since ages now and every year they end up surprising us with the latest tech and over the top features, especially in their gaming range. We recently got our hands on the latest from its camp called Acer Nitro 5. This is the 2020 edition of the laptop and here is what we think of the top of the line gaming laptop.

Design and Display

Out of the box, Acer Nitro 5 2020 looks similar to the previous generation with changes on the lid and the rear. The Acer logo can be seen in the middle part of the lid, which has sharp protruding edges. These give the gaming essence to the laptop when seen from afar. Also, the rear exhaust system has been given red accents around it, which again makes it stand out of the crowd.Acer nitro 5 lid

The overall mix of hard plastic and metal around the body keeps the weight light yet sturdy (2.3Kg). We would have been happier if thicker plastic was used on the lid as right now it is on the flimsier side. This might have been done to keep the weight on the lower side, but one does not mind a few extra grams for protection.

When you open the Acer Nitro 5 2020 you are greeted with a 15.6-inch FHD 144Hz display with regular bezels and a webcam on top. On the bottom part, you get a fairly large RGB light-driven full QWERTY keyboard with Numpad. The off-centre trackpad is right under the keyboard, which on most counts works well. But since this is a gaming laptop, you would hardly be using it. The keys on the keyboard are large and very decent for gaming. However, we must say we have seen better coming from the brand Acer.

The display is very good for gaming and we loved our experience with it, while playing games like DOTA 2 or Counter-Strike: GO. Both ran very well at 120 FPS without breaking a sweat. The speakers on the system are down-firing and at 2W each they bring the movie experience to life, but for gaming, our recommendation is to keep the headphones handy. On the sides, users will find three USB 3.2 gen 2 ports, one 3.5mm audio port, Ethernet jack, USB type-c and an HDMI out port. The charging port is located at the back. acer nitro 5 side

Performance

Before we deep dive into how this machine performed overall, let’s quickly tell you about its insides. Available in Intel Core i5 and Core i7 (10th gen) configurations, we reviewed the latter. This one has a clock speed of up to 2.6GHz and is a quad-core CPU. With that, it had 8GB RAM and 128GB of SSD storage along with 1TB HDD space.

For graphics, the Acer Nitro 5 2020 has NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 graphic card, which is its a mid-end graphic card of the series but does a very good job in playing games like PUBG, COD at high settings. The GPU also has 4GB dedicated RAM on it.

Together this makes up for one of the best gaming experiences. Over that, with WiFi 6 onboard and Killer E2600, Acer Nitro 5 2020 makes sure that you do not face any lag during gameplay. The pings stay stable because of the same, no matter which ISP you are on. We tested it with both Act Fibrenet and Airtel WiFi connections and the laptop did not give us any hard time.

When it comes to cooling, this is an aspect that could have been better. When gaming, the laptop does become hot after prolonged use. But it cools down as quickly when you stop gaming. The twin fans do help a lot in keeping the system cool. Switching over to its battery life, we extracted 4.5 hours of backup when not gaming. But when gaming one would want to keep the charger attached since that will supply the right wattage for the graphic card and CPU, so that you can play games at full potential.

Verdict

All in all, Acer Nitro 5 2020 is one of the best gaming machines launched this year. At Rs 1,05,000 (price on the box) this machine does seem to be on the higher side. However, there are a lot of discounts available on it and you can easily get it for Rs 10,000-15,000 cheaper online.

Pros

Excellent gaming experience

Superb display

Latest configuration

Cons

Lid a little flimsy

Gets a bit hot when gaming
