Huawei claims to have launched ‘World’s First’ 5G Hardware for Autos’

Chinese electronics maker Huawei Technologies has today launched what it calls as the world’s first 5G communications hardware that is meant for the automotive industry. This is being considered as a sign of Huawei’s growing ambition to be one among the key suppliers for the self-driving technology sector.

In a statement, the company said that the so-called MH5000 module is based on the Balong 5000 5G chip that was launched earlier this year in January. The statement read, “Based on this chip, Huawei has developed the world’s first 5G car module with high speed and high quality.”

Huawei launched its newest offering at Shanghai Autoshow, which kicked off last week and will go on till Thursday. The company further added, “As an important communication product for future intelligent car transportation, this 5G car module will promote the automotive industry to move towards the 5G era.”

The Chinese technology brand also said that the module will help it to commercialise 5G network technology for the automotive sector in the second half of 2019.

In the last few years, Huawei has also been testing technology for intelligent connected cars in various cities in China including Shanghai, Shenzhen and Wuxi. The company has also signed cooperation deals with a number of car makers including FAW, Dongfeng and Changan.

It is worth adding that Huawei, which has become the world’s biggest telecoms equipment maker, is now working on becoming the leader of the global race for next-generation 5G networks, but has under a lot of scrutiny from the United States. The United States has alleged that Huawei’s equipment could be used for espionage. However, the Chinese smartphone maker has always denied these allegations.

In the latest development on this note, the US Intelligence has accused Huawei of receiving funding from China’s National Security Commission, the People’s Liberation Army along with the third batch of Chinese state Intelligence network.

It should be noted that the new development between the US and the Chinese company comes at a time when the trade tensions between the US and Huawei are high.

While as of now, the Chinese smartphone maker has not commented on the latest allegations, in the past, the company did issue a statement on the matter. Speaking on the allegations against the company, a representative from Huawei said in a statement, “Huawei does not comment on unsubstantiated allegations backed up by zero evidence from anonymous sources.”

Tesla is getting ready for the fully automated self-driving cars despite questionable arguments

Tesla, the company known for its advancements in the electric cars and vehicles, is going ahead at breakneck speed in its race to launch fully-automated vehicles. And now the CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk is looking forward to transform Tesla’s electric cars to driverless vehicles. The move is risky as it has failed many times in the past before, but then it is also a bold thing to do. The new technology about the driverless vehicles is scheduled to be shown off to Tesla investors on Monday at the company’s HQ in Palo Alto, California.

Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk is certain that his company will win the race towards making completely automated vehicles. Earlier, in an interview, he suggested that the cars made by Tesla should be able to navigate the congested highways and streets of the city without needing a human behind the steering wheels. Musk also added that it would be possible by next year.

However, the experts of the industry are sceptical about Tesla’s technological advancements and they don’t thing that think that the technology is ready when the cars itself could drive itself without a human.

Musk told Lex Fridman, “I could be wrong, but it appears to be the case that Tesla is vastly ahead of everyone.” While a retired engineer, Steven E. Shladover said, “It’s all hype. The technology does not exist to do what he is claiming. He doesn’t have it and neither does anybody else.”

Driverless cars may be the future Musk is looking at, but even now, there are a number of people who thinks that the “Full Self-Driving” cars give a false sense of security. And there might be times when the cars or robots would not be able to handle a situation. On the other hand, some people are also waiting for Musk to define the self-driving cars and what places could they travel to without human intervention.

Moreover, Musk continues to use his Twitter account and Tesla’s website to push out new stories and information about the fully-self driving cars and vehicles. Once the software is ready, those vehicles with new computers will get an update through the internet. It should be noted that there are more than 400,000 Tesla vehicles which are equipped with full autonomy and will rely on the eight cameras that cover the 360 degree of the car.

Tesla’s system is different than the system being developed by other companies such as Google’s Waymo or General Motors’ Cruise Control Automation or Ford-affiliated Argo A. Similar to Tesla’s, they too use the cameras and the radar to cover the 360 degree of the car along with certain censors.

There are other companies who don’t believe that the self-driving and driverless cars are 100% safe and that a number of people would die in its testing before it reaches its final stage.

Although, Tesla is already offering a system called “Autopilot” which can control the cars on a limited basis but it needs constant monitoring by a human driver. Tesla mentions on its official website that ‘its Autopilot system steers your car in its lane and accelerates and brakes automatically for other vehicles and pedestrians in its lane’. But it should be noted that till now, Tesla’s autopiloted car has been involved in three fatal crashes, so its dependency is questionable.

The newly launched two-door refrigerator from Samsung is available at a starting price of Rs 1,06,990, and on the other hand, the two-door fridge that has an ice & water dispenser costs Rs 1,25,990.

In addition to this, Samsung has also launched a three-door model lineup and the price of this range starts at Rs 1,16,990. Samsung’s new SpaceMax series will be available for purchase at all retail stores and the company’s shop starting April 22, 2019.

Samsung’s new series of refrigerator has the new SpaceMax technology pre-loaded in them. The company has said that because of the technology, the walls of the refrigerator are thinner. With this, customers will be able to get more storage space without increasing the dimensions or compromising on the efficiency of energy.

The new refrigerator series from Samsung comes with all-around cooling system that blows cold air via multiple vents. The company has said that this cools the entire fridge and maintains the right temperature so that the food remains fresh for long. The refrigerators come with Samsung’s digital inverter compressor which, according to the South Korean technology giant, can save up to 50 percent of the energy.

Speaking of the model with the ice and water dispenser, it comes with a large water tank in which consumer can add water and enjoy chilled drinks or ice without having to install a separate filter for water.

We should mention that the new range of refrigerators come with features like Power Cool and Power Freeze. While Power Cool quickly cools off groceries and drinks with just a touch of a button, the Power Freeze can be used to firm up frozen foods and making ice quickly.

Another feature that is found in the refrigerator is EZ Slide Shelf that helps in organizing the items so that consumers can put in and take out food more easily, so there’s no ‘dead space’ in the refrigerator. It is built on rolling hinges and simply slides in and out.

Samsung Galaxy Fold launch in China gets delayed after ‘foldgate’

South Korean technology giant Samsung has postponed the media launch events of its Galaxy Fold smartphone that were supposed to be held this week in Hong Kong and Shanghai. The news of the delay in the launch of Samsung Galaxy Fold was confirmed by a company official just days after members of the technology press reported about defective review samples.

However, the executive did not mention any reason for the delay or disclose when exactly the launch will be taking place now. But then, we don’t need the company to officially declare the reason for the delay in the launch of the device.

We should mention that the company has not commented as yet about whether there is a delay in the launch of Samsung Galaxy Fold smartphone in the United States.

The entire last week a number of reviewers reported about breaks, bulges and blinking screens after using the samples of Samsung Galaxy Fold smartphone. And this happened just ahead of the smartphone’s launch in the United States on April 26. What’s even worse, most reports surfaced online just after a day of the reviewers using the smartphone samples.

A hashtag regarding the issue called #foldgate also started trending on microblogging website Twitter after the reports of these issues went viral.

Samsung also acknowledged the issue with this statement:

“A limited number of early Galaxy Fold samples were provided to media for review. We have received a few reports regarding the main display on the samples provided. We will thoroughly inspect these units in person to determine the cause of the matter.

Separately, a few reviewers reported having removed the top layer of the display causing damage to the screen. The main display on the Galaxy Fold features a top protective layer, which is part of the display structure designed to protect the screen from unintended scratches. Removing the protective layer or adding adhesives to the main display may cause damage. We will ensure this information is clearly delivered to our customers.”

Samsung Galaxy Fold is priced at $1,980 and the South Korean technology giant has also confirmed that it will be launched in India too. The company has said in the past that with Galaxy Fold, it is focussing on providing a much larger real estate in terms display to its customers. However, in a premium offering like Samsung Galaxy Fold, is simply not acceptable and the company must do all that it can to fix the issue before making it available for purchase.

Update: Samsung has announced that it has delayed the sale/launch of the Galaxy Fold smartphone in all regions indefinitely.

CIA accuses Huawei of bring funded by the Chinese State Security, company denies allegations: Reports

In the wake of the rising tension between the US and the Chinese electronics maker Huawei, a new leaf has turned. The US Intelligence has accused Huawei Technologies of being funded by the Chinese state security. On Saturday, a report by The Times read that the new finding has added to the list of the allegations faced by Huawei Technologies in the US.

According to reports, the accuser is none other than the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) who said that Huawei is receiving funding from China’s National Security Commission, the People’s Liberation Army along with a third batch of Chinese state Intelligence network. It should be noted that earlier in 2019, US Intelligence had shared its claims about the company to other members of the Five Eyes Intelligence-sharing group – Britain, Australia, Canada and New Zealand.

But Huawei has dismissed the allegations put on it, and in a statement a representative of the company said, “Huawei does not comment on unsubstantiated allegations backed up by zero evidence from anonymous sources.” The company along with the CIA and the Chinese state security agencies did not respond to the allegations and the news itself.

It should be noted that the new development between the US and the Chinese company comes at a time when the trade tensions between the US and Huawei are high. The US is also concerned that the equipment’s made and sold by Huawei could be used for espionage and spying but the smartphone maker has defended itself by saying that the concerns are unfounded. The authorities in the US are also probing the Chinese company for alleged sanctions violations.

Moreover, at the request of the US, last year Meng Wanzhou, Huawei’s chief financial officer and the daughter of the company’s founder Ren Zhengfei were arrested in Canada. The US had put them under the charges of bank and wire fraud in violation of US sanctions against Iran. Even the founder of the company was arrested earlier, it was said that the arrest was ‘politically motivated’.

To the allegations put against her and the company, Wanzhou denied the wrongdoings and the allegations. With the tensions rising, the top educational institutions in the West have also severed their ties with Huawei to avoid losing federal funding.

Other than Huawei, another Chinese tech company, ZTE has also been with bad terms with the US on similar controversies. Last year between April and July, US sanctions forced ZTE to stop most of its business after the Commerce Department officials said that the company broke a pact. They also caught ZTE illegally shipping US-origin goods to Iran and North Korea. But the sanctions against the company was lifted after ZTE paid $1.4 billion in penalties.

Here’s how Huawei P30 Pro performed in the bend and scratch tests

Huawei’s latest flagship smartphone – Huawei P30 Pro – is arguably one of the best handsets that we have seen in 2019. In some aspects, it goes head-to-head with the Samsung’s Galaxy S10 that was launched early this year. Most smartphones today come with a full glass built with a metal chassis but being glass is also one of the reasons these devices are fragile. And Huawei P30 Pro is no different since it has a glass body too.

YouTuber JerryRigEverything, who is known for testing all flagship devices and popular smartphones, put Huawei P30 Pro to bend and scratch tests too. The smartphone seems to have survived the tests pretty well. Read on to know what happened.

In his video, JerryRigEverything is seen putting the Huawei P30 Pro to test and the device scratches on level 6 and level 7 of the Moh scale as it is made up of tampered glass. The scratch level on which the P30 Pro scratches is normal for flagship smartphones. The smartphone also goes through the flame test in which the device’s display was put under a lighter’s flame. Initially, some pixels on the screen turning white, but after 22 seconds of the prolonged flame being kept on the screen, the pixels die and the area never recover.

Other than that, the YouTuber also scratched the Huawei P30 Pro’s in-display fingerprint to see if it works after getting damaged. Even when the screen above the in-display fingerprint scanner got heavily scratched, the screen and the fingerprint scanner seemed to work just fine proving how durable Huawei P30 Pro.

But the Huawei P30 Pro did exceptionally well in the bend test.  In the video, it can be seen that when the device was bent, it didn’t receive any cracks on its glass screens on the front or at the back. But as mentioned above, the sides of the P30 Pro are made up of metal and it cracks when bent. The glass on top of the P30 Pro as well as the back-camera’s glass are resistant to scratches which makes the smartphone more reliable and durable than its predecessor, the P20 Pro. Moreover, the P30 Pro has an Infrared LED indicator which makes it possible to control the TVs and other electronic devices.

It should be noted that the Huawei P30 Pro was launched in India this month itself and it bears a price tag of Rs 71,990. Currently, the device comes in only one variant with 8GB RAM and 256GB inbuilt storage. The P30 Pro is available for purchase on Amazon in two colour variants – Aurora and Breathing Crystal. The key feature of Huawei P30 Pro is its quad-rear camera setup that comes with 50x zooming capabilities. It is powered by a 7nm HiSilicon Kirin 980 SoC and is IP68-certified dust and water resistant.

Why do you need an antivirus for your PC or laptop in 2019?

The Windows ecosystem is not the same and has become much better when it comes to dealing with viruses, malware and attacks. These attacks could be just for kicks or to steal your precious data. With the latest Windows 10, the OS is becoming more robust and stronger. However, there are still loopholes that Microsoft tries to bridge with every update. These updates are sometimes far and few.

Which is why you still do need a good antivirus for your precious PC or laptop. These will not only save your data from being phished but will keep the door locked on those pesky hackers and peeping toms who want to watch your every move. At times we do feel that we are not going to any site that seems off, or are visiting just websites that are reputable and downloading from official portals only. However, there have been multiple instances where Windows users have confirmed that they were visiting only legit sources and not even using any external drives, yet their PC/Laptop got infected.

So why does this happen?

It can be multiple things or a mix of these things that infected your PC or laptop with a virus or malware. It can be an official Email you opened which had a virus strand. Or could be your child installed software without your knowledge. You might be a victim of a phishing attack, which has also put in a code of malware in your system. The possibilities are numerous and one can never be too careful.

So what do you do? We have Windows defender is that enough?

Windows Defender is good, but that is not the best out there. There are plenty of good antiviruses out there and one of the best antivirus for Windows is Bitdefender, which we have seen in the recent past. You can also try the free antivirus software by the company and see its advanced protection. It will keep your system protected and the regular definition updates make sure new viruses are dealt with from the get-go.

Other than this you might want to see who is accessing your internet connection or some unwanted people are on your home or office network. Similarly, use the internet from only known sources and avoid public networks at all costs. Get a better mobile data plan and tether internet from it to your laptop or PC, if you are unsure of the open internet network.

Also, keep a safe password on your ID’s including your WiFi network key. These should be hard to crack. A good password should have minimum of 1 upper case character, 1 special character and should be at least 8 or more characters long.

So in a nutshell, you should invest in a good antivirus software for your PC or Laptop, because Windows is becoming strong, but there are plenty of awful people out there who are building viruses and malware to steal your precious data by finding code loopholes in your system.

Oppo A1k with 4,000mAh battery to launch soon in India: Report

Chinese smartphone brand Oppo is reportedly all set to launch its A1K smartphone in India. The company is said to be planning to launch the upcoming Oppo A1K handset in the budget segment of the Indian smartphone market and the report suggests that the device will be priced under Rs 10,000.

According to a report in 91mobiles, Oppo A1k smartphone is all set to arrive in India soon. The technology website has shared a poster which they claim to have acquired from a retail chain source. The poster says that Oppo A1k smartphone will house a massive 4,000mAh battery and come with 32GB of internal storage.

In the poster, it can also be seen that the handset will come with a small waterdrop-shaped notch to house the selfie camera. The back panel of the smartphone can be seen to come with a single camera accompanied by a dual tone LED flash.

We should mention that there is no fingerprint sensor on the device, which can only mean that it will come with a face unlock feature.

Another thing that we must add is that Oppo A1k is not official as of now, so it can be a possibility that the company will be keeping the global launch of the smartphone in India. However, as of now, this is just a speculation and there is no word about it from the company. According to the NBTC certification, Oppo A1k smartphone will come with a 6-inch display or screen that is slightly bigger in size.

The handset is said to be powered by MediaTek’s Helio P22 SoC clubbed with 2GB of RAM. The listing also states that Oppo A1k smartphone’s dimensions are 154.4 x 77.4 x 8.4mm. The smartphone is said to weigh 165 grams and will be available in Red and Black colour options.

In an unrelated piece of news, Oppo has confirmed that it will be discontinuing its R series in favour of Reno and Find ranges. In an interview with MyDrivers, Oppo’s Senior VP Shen Yiren recently confirmed that the company is killing off its R series and would not be launching any more devices in the range. With this, the Chinese smartphone brand will now be focussing on its Reno and Find series.

The Reno series from Oppo is the newest among the three and the company recently took wraps off its Oppo Reno and Oppo Reno 10x Zoom Edition smartphones in China.

Inbox by Gmail’s older versions have stopped working

Technology giant Google killed off its Inbox by Gmail service earlier this month on April 2. However, a number of fans of Inbox by Gmail were able to use the older versions of the app on their smartphones till now. Those who did not like the idea of giving up on the app even downloaded the APK versions of Inbox by Gmail, which surprisingly continued to work even when the app was closed down by the search giant.

However, now these users have started reporting that fresh installs of the older APKs are no longer working for them. According to reports, an error signal is popping up every time users attempt signing in to their Inbox by Gmail IDs. This means that the older versions of the app are also about to lose support very soon. And if you are one among the people who have not been able to give up on Inbox by Gmail till now, you would now have no option but to live without it.

This change was first noticed by Android Police, and the report on the website claims that APK versions of Inbox by Gmail was updated and they could not get the older APKs to function. So most users who had this version of the Inbox for Gmail APK were automatically updated to v1.78, and now, they have a Gmail transition appearing.

The only way that the service will continue to work for you is if you have the app installed and turned off all the auto-updates for it. However, even the people who do have the app working for them have claimed that they have stopped receiving email notifications and they even need to refresh the app manually on their own. All of this indicates that the app is only limited for a very limited time.

Although Google closed down the Inbox by Gmail app on April 2, older Android versions of the app, as well as the iOS app, were unaffected even after it. However, now this seems to be changing.

It is worth adding here that in the last few months before closing down its Inbox for Gmail, Google added a number of features from the service to Gmail. Smart Reply, Nudges, and inline attachments are among the features from the email servive that made their way to Gmail. However, since only a few of the features that Inbox users loved made their way to the regular Gmail and many of them are not available even now, many users feel that using Gmail after being accustomed to Inbox is more of a downgrade.

If you miss the desktop version of the app, you can install the Inbox for Gmail extension on Chrome Web Store, which will make your Gmail look like Inbox. However, we should mention that this extension is not made by Google.

Samsung Galaxy A10e receives Wi-Fi certification, expected to launch soon

South Korean technology giant Samsung launched its Galaxy 20e smartphone recently in select markets. As the name suggests, the smartphone is a watered down version of the Samsung Galaxy A20 handset. And now, the company is planning to do the same with its Galaxy A10 handset as it will soon be seen launching its Samsung Galaxy A10e.

Samsung Galaxy A10e has been spotted on the Wi-Fi Alliance website, which clearly points towards an imminent launch. We should mention that Samsung Galaxy A10 is currently the most affordable smartphone in the company’s Galaxy A series. To recall, the Galaxy A10 handset was launched in India in February this year and its price has been set at Rs 8,490. With Galaxy A10e, Samsung is planning to get an even more affordable option of the device.

A new smartphone from Samsung’s Galaxy A series with model number SM-A102U has received the Qi-Fi certification, which can only mean one thing: It will be launched soon. And it is being speculated that the smartphone will hit the stores as Samsung Galaxy A10e.

According to the listing on the website, Samsung’s upcoming smartphone will run Android Pie and support dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac. It is worth mentioning that the listing of the device was first spotted by DroidShout.

However, we should also point out that not much is known about the Samsung Galaxy A10e as of now. However, if the South Korean technology adopts the same strategy that id did with Samsung Galaxy A20e, Galaxy A10e will be more affordable than Galaxy A10. And needless to say, it will be inferior in terms of hardware specifications as well.

To recall, Samsung Galaxy A10 sports a 6.2-inch HD+ Infinity-V Display and it is powered by an octa-core Exynos 7884 SoC clubbed with 2GB of RAM.

Netflix starts testing a ‘random episode’ feature for Android

0

Do you often binge watch shows and films on Netflix? If the answer to that is yes, we have some news for you. The service is trying a shuffle button on its platform. According to a report that has recently surfaced online, the video-streaming platform has started testing the feature with some users of its Android app.

The report, which was first published on Android Police, claims that the company has already started testing the feature. There are two ways to make it appear: Firstly, there is a dedicated ‘Play a Popular Episode’ column on the home screen of the app which includes shows like The Office, Arrested Development, and Our Planet. If you are a fan of the first two, you can enjoy any random episode of the shows regardless of which season you want to watch. We should mention here that the shuffle feature makes perfect sense for nature documentaries where all episodes have their own theme.

Besides this, Netflix also has a ‘random episode’ button in playback controls that appears once you start watching a series. However, it does not appear for any and every series, the option only pops up for select series where the company feels it would make sense for the user to have access to it. This has obviously been done because there are plenty of shows which show one story being continued in many episodes and seasons. So, it obviously wouldn’t make sense for them to have the new feature.

For those who wish to rewatch some episodes of Friends, NCIS, or Grey’s Anatomy, having this feature makes perfect sense as they would be able to enjoy random episodes from the series. The new Shuffle feature also works well for anthology-type shows on Netflix like hello and Black Mirror.

In an unrelated piece of news, the platform is set to change its policy of not sharing viewership data of its original shows and films as the company has promised more transparency. Netflix has also added that the viewership data will be shared first with producers, followed by subscribers and then finally the press.

We should mention that this is a big step for Netflix as in the past, the company has declined to reveal the viewing habits of its members. The platform has also been criticised because on one hand, it is very secretive about its ratings and on the other hand, it does not shy away from making occasional claims about how strong the ratings are.

Instagram is testing a Co-Watching feature on its app: Report

0

Facebook’s photo-sharing app Instagram is now reportedly testing a new feature that would enable users to co-watch the video content on the platform with their friends and get to see their reactions on the video via their smartphone cameras at the same time.

The feature would give users of the app the option of starting the split screen view and using it they will be able to apply face filters and other visual tools to their personal camera feeds, according to a report in Social Media Today.

Reverse engineer Jane Manchun Wong took to Twitter to speak about the upcoming feature. She said, “Instagram’s co-watching media picker is essentially tabs of Explore, Saved and Liked. It’s somehow also showing me photos though. Unless Instagram designed co-watching so we can stare at an image together, it will be fixed when released.”

Besides letting users watch Instagram videos together, the upcoming feature will also provide them with interactive elements of being able to see and listen to their co-viewers in another minimized window. As of now, the option only supports two viewers, besides the Instagram Live function.

The report further added, “That could be somewhat restrictive, but then again, previous research has shown that 85 percent of the messages shared on Instagram are distributed to the same three friends, highlighting a desire for more intimate communication on the platform.”

We should mention that this is not the first time that a report about this feature has surfaced online. Last month, the feature got spotted for the first time and a report surfaced online which claimed that it will be called ‘Co-Watch’. It was also said that CoWatch would let you watch Instagram Stories, videos and IGTV content along with your friends, much like Facebook’s Watch Party. The feature was spotted in Instagram Direct Messaging code.

It is worth noticing that Facebook launched the Watch Party feature on its platform in July and it has said that it has facilitated more than 12 million ‘Watch Parties’. And this number has been given by the company for Facebook Groups starting July to November 2018.

It should be noted that as of now, Instagram has not commented on whether it is working on the feature or not.

In an unrelated piece of news, a different report has also surfaced online claiming that Instagram is considering to completely remove ‘Likes’ from its platform. With this in effect, only the person posting the picture or video will be able to see the likes and not his followers.
