Meanwhile, Apple has enabled its Watch users to view their cardio fitness level in the Health app on iPhone with iOS 14.3 and watchOS 7.2 to empower users to be more active for dramatic long-term health benefits. It also enables users to receive a notification on Apple Watch if it falls within the low range. This technology launched in watchOS 7 enables Apple Watch to easily measure low cardio fitness.
As per to the tech giant, Apple Watch with watchOS 7 uses multiple sensors, including the optical heart sensor, GPS, and the accelerometer to estimate lower levels. This is significant because direct measurement of VO2 max typically requires a rigorous clinical test with specialised equipment that is not readily accessible to most people.
With this, the watchOS 7 also allows Apple Watch users to take cardio fitness measurements as users walk throughout the day, whether or not they are tracking a workout. It also enables Apple Watch is better able to measure VO2 max for users with low cardio fitness.
Additionally, the iOS 14.3 and watchOS 7.2 enable Apple Watch users to visit the Cardio Fitness category in the Health app on iPhone to review whether their cardio fitness level is classified as high, above average, below average, or low, relative to people in their same age group and of the same sex, according to data from the Fitness Registry and Importance of Exercise National Database (FRIEND).

Chinese technology company Xiaomi recently launched its first ever smartwatch in India – Mi Watch Revolve – at a price of Rs 10,999. Since it’s the company’s first ever offering in India in this category, we were very excited to know if it’s as good as its specifications like AMOLED display and 420mAh battery make it seem. We spent quite some time with the smartwatch and read our Mi Watch Revolve review to know more about it:
In This Article
Mi Watch Revolve design
Speaking of the design of the Mi Watch Revolve first, there were some things that we liked and some things that could have been better. The smartwatch comes with a circular display that has a black-coloured bezel running around it. The display of the watch is embedded in a metallic dial that has two buttons protruding out on the right side. While the button on the top is the Power key, the other one is for shortcuts. It is worth noticing that Xiaomi‘s offering has a 46mm case so it may look a little chunky to some. We personally liked it because it meant a bigger display for the smartwatch – something that’s always a plus because that means it puts less strain on our eyes.
Coming to the display of Mi Watch Revolve, the smartwatch comes with a 1.39-inch AMOLED screen, and because of its big size, it has more elements on it than most other smartwatches. The screen of the watch is protected by a layer of Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3. The colours on the display of the smartwatch are bright and the icons are sharp and clear. The display is definitely one among the positive points of the device and it also responses well to touch.
Flip the watch over and you will see the heart rate sensor of the Mi Watch Revolve on the back of its dial. The smartwatch is available in Midnight Black and Chrome Silver colour options and we got the former one for review. According to the company, the straps of the watch are 22mm wide and are made of a rubber-like material that was rather uncomfortable. This was biggest con in terms of the design, but then on the upside, you can change the straps of the smartwatch in case you encounter a problem. We particularly found it hard to sleep with the watch on because of its uncomfortable straps and because it was slightly big in size. It takes a bit of getting used to.
Mi Watch Revolve specifications and performance
The Mi Watch Revolve comes with GPS and GLONASS, which basically means that you can track your footsteps even when the device is not paired to your smartphone. We think that this is a very useful feature, especially in case the battery of your smartphone runs out. The smartwatch weighs 60g when the straps are attached to it and 40g when they are not. It packs a 420mAh battery and is water resistant up to 5ATM. For connectivity, the device comes with Bluetooth 5 LE. It also has an in-built compass which is useful for outdoor activities.
Mi Watch Revolve is compatible with Android 4.4 or iOS 10 and above. Since we use an Android smartphone, we had to download the Xiaomi Wear App to pair our watch to our handset. Another downside of the watch is that while it notifies the user about new messages and incoming calls on their smartphone, it doesn’t have the ability of letting them reply to these. This is quite a thing to consider if you are thinking of buying the smartwatch. Mi Watch Revolve also comes with the Find Phone feature and using this, you can make your smartphone ring loudly. This proves to be useful in situations where you think you have lost your smartphone.
Coming to the performance of Mi Watch Revolve, it worked accurately in terms of counting our steps and the number of times we stood up. Although no smartwatch or fitness tracker can be completely accurate in terms of counting the steps or movement, Xiaomi’s offering does a fairly good job of it. We actually counted our steps every day and then compared our count to the one on the smartwatch, and we never saw too much of a difference between the two numbers, so that’s definitely a plus. However, we couldn’t do the same for distance, as during the time we were using the smartwatch, we were still avoiding the outdoors because of the ongoing pandemic. The device also recorded our BPM and stress level at all times. According to the company, the stress level is calculated on the Mi Revolve smartwatch by recording the heart rate variability and comparing it to the activity intensity data. Sleep tracking is available on the device and it gets segregated in various phases like Deep Sleep, Light Sleep and Awake.
The smartwatch can also record ‘Energy Levels’ and for this, it takes into account a number of other aspects like how much the user has slept, exercised, and how much their stress level has been. There were times when it correctly guessed that we were ‘Exhausted’ or had ‘Moderate’ levels of energy. Although such aspects of a smartwatch can never be taken too seriously, this was surprisingly correct most of the times.
We were notified timely of all the activity on our smartphone that we had opted on the app to be shown on the watch. There wasn’t a noticeable lag during our time with the smartwatch.
Now, let’s talk about the battery of the smartwatch. We would have to be a little vague here and say that the duration of the battery lasts according to how many tasks you make the smartwatch do. If you have only a few notifications synced to the watch and disable the always-on display you can easily get two weeks of battery from the device. Even with a lot of notifications and always-on display enabled, the difference between the duration that the battery lasted was not considerable. So we also consider that to be a big positive.
Verdict
The pros of Mi Watch Revolve outweigh its cons. We liked the display of the device although some may find it a little chunky. The straps are uncomfortable, but can be changed. The battery life is one of the best aspects of the smartwatch and is also reasonably accurate in terms of counting steps. However, the inability to reply to calls and messages might be a downer for a lot of people. Nonetheless, at this price point, Mi Watch Revolve is a very good buy.

In what seems to be the visionary charging concepts that Volkswagen hopes will expand the charging infrastructure over the next few years, the company has now provided a first glimpse of the prototypes of its mobile charging robot. The robot provides fully autonomous charging of vehicles in restricted parking areas, like underground car parks.
“A ubiquitous charging infrastructure is and remains a key factor in the success of electric mobility. Our charging robot is just one of several approaches, but is undoubtedly one of the most visionary,” said Thomas Schmall, Volkswagen Group Components’ CEO.
Started via an app or Car-to-X communication, the charging robot operates totally autonomously. Volkswagen further stated that this wonder machine steers the vehicle to be charged and also communicates with it like opening the charging socket flap to connecting the plug and decoupling it.
Interestingly, the entire charging process takes place without any human involvement whatsoever. To charge several vehicles at the same time, the mobile robot moves a trailer, essentially a mobile energy storage unit, to the vehicle, connects it up and then uses this energy storage unit to charge the battery of the electric vehicle. The energy storage unit stays with the vehicle during the charging process. In the meantime, the robot charges other electric vehicles. Once the charging service has ended, the robot independently collects the mobile energy storage unit and takes it back to the central charging station.
“Setting up an efficient charging infrastructure for the future is a central task that challenges the entire sector. We are developing solutions to help avoid costly stand-alone measures. The mobile charging robot and our flexible quick-charging station are just two of these solutions,” said Thomas Schmall, CEO of Volkswagen Group Components.
The business unit is currently working on a complete DC charging family. The flexible quick-charging station will be launched onto the market in early 2021. For several weeks now, the DC wallbox has been trialled at different company’s German production sites. The mobile charging robot has successfully reached prototype status and will now be comprehensively further developed. One of the prerequisites for market maturity is Car-to-X communication to facilitate the autonomous charging process.
In future, Volkswagen Group Components will be amongst other things responsible for all Volkswagen Group charging activities and charging systems. The intention is to integrate the charging robot into an overall concept that will focus on the long-term success of electric mobility, and thus the electrification of transport.
“Establishing a charging infrastructure is a fundamental prerequisite for this. But it needs to be demand-led and efficient. Our developments do not just focus on customers’ needs and the technical prerequisites of electric vehicles. They also consider the economical possibilities they offer potential partners,” said Schmall.
The LG further added that the developments also enable the operators of parking bays and underground car parks to quickly and simply “electrify” every parking space using the mobile charging robot. This reduces any construction work needed, at the same time reducing the potential cost.

‘LG will now launch new InstaView Door-in-Door refrigerators that boast upgraded features and design innovations for improved user convenience at the first virtual CES. Mind you! LG is also introducing models with new InstaView voice recognition technology to take hands-free convenience to a whole new level in the kitchen.”
The company further revealed LG’s iconic InstaView Door-in-Door technology is receiving convenience-enhancing updates in 2021. Helping to minimize cold air loss and extend food freshness, the LG InstaView panel illuminates the interior of the refrigerator with just two quick knocks on the transparent glass so users can see inside without opening the door, while Door-in-Door technology helps organize everyday favorites for quick and easy access to often-used items without having to open the entire refrigerator.
LG also notified that the new 2021 side-by-side models offer a larger, more immersive tinted glass panel that complements the new seamless stainless-steel flat door panel design for the ultimate elegant aesthetic never before offered on side-by-side configurations. With a 23 percent larger InstaView window than previous models, seeing what’s inside is easier than ever.
Moreover, LG’s new InstaView refrigerators also incorporate LG’s UVnano technology that harnesses the power of light to effortlessly and effectively help maintain a hygienic and germ-free water dispenser. First introduced in 2017 on the company’s most premium water dispenser products, UVnano helps remove up to 99.99 percent of bacteria on the refrigerator’s dispenser after 24 hours.
It was also notified that every new InstaView product in the lineup incorporates LG’s proven freshness-enhancing systems, LINEARCooling and DoorCooling. LINEARCooling minimizes temperature fluctuations – the main cause of food spoilage – while DoorCooling simultaneously cools the entire refrigerator compartment evenly by distributing powerful airflow from a strategically positioned vent.
“A CES 2021 Innovation Awards Best of Innovation winner, the new LG InstaView refrigerator with voice recognition makes time spent in the kitchen more productive and more convenient. Consumers no longer have to struggle to open the refrigerator door when their hands are full of groceries. There is now much difference in terms of the camera specifications of both devices. The latest Mi flagship consists of the latest processor which makes it faster as well as stronger than its predecessor. However, Mi 10 comes with a bigger battery but its successor comes with a 55W wired fast charging and 50W wireless fast charging support which quickly charges the phone. Whereas the pricing is concerned the newly launched phone is less expensive than Mi 10. So in all aspects, Xiaomi Mi 11 takes on Mi 10.

The Tech Giant, Google, recently launched Google Pixel 4a in India. However, the company has also introduced Google Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G in other markets but dropped the idea to launch both the devices in India. As India is still deprived of 5G technology and is expected to arrive by next year. Before arriving in the country many of us were expecting aggressive pricing because if you remember Pixel 3a was priced around Rs 39,000. And we were correct. The company is offering Google Pixel 4a at a decent price, which is at Rs 31,999 and will be available in a single configuration of 6GB RAM with 128GB of storage. So let’s do a full review of Google Pixel 4a to find out what we liked and what we didn’t like about the company’s most affordable device.Design and DisplayOn unboxing the Google Pixel 4a we found it to be a pretty compact phone, which has a 5.8 inches OLED screen and these days we rarely see small phones. We were delighted to use this phone because of its nifty form factor. The best thing about having a small smartphone is it can be easily carried in your pocket and looks more fashionable. Also, lightweight devices are easier to hold without tiring your arms. On the front, a camera cut out is given on the top left corner of the screen with slimmer bezels. On the back of the phone, a single camera module is given on the top left corner including an LED flash. While the physical fingerprint sensor is given below the camera module. Google logo and a matte finish rear panel sum up the back. On Google Pixel 4a, the company has used a unibody polycarbonate back cover, which is nice as this will keep it away from accidental scratches and fingerprints. The headphones jack is positioned at the top and on the right, a power and a volume rocker keys are given. On the left, a slot for a single Nano-SIM is there but does support eSIM. And at the bottom, you get speakers and a USB Type-C port. So overall the company’s decision to go with a compact and minimalistic design sets it apart from other devices in the market. The device does not offer face unlock however the fingerprint sensor works very well and one can use swipe gestures to pull down the notification shade. If you remember in the previous generation of Pixel 4a, it offered thick bezels on all sides and the existing device comes with a comparatively larger display than that of Pixel 3a. The latest model features a 5.8 inches OLED display. It offers a Full-HD+ resolution at 1,080×2,340 pixels with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The mobile has a pixel density at 443 PPI with HDR10 support and Gorilla Glass 3 has been used to protect it from accidental falls and scratches. We were quite impressed with the display’s performance. It may be small compared to other devices, but it is pretty much good for watching content. The screen of Google Pixel 4A offers vivid and accurate colours while the text appears to be sharp. The brightness of the display during outdoors is legible however the screen content is hard to read in indirect sunlight. So try finding a shade or try using your hands as a shield while using the phone in direct sunlight. The screen also offers good viewing angles and extreme viewing angles do not even affect the ability to read.It misses out on a higher refresh rate. The OLED screen of Google Pixel 4A refreshes at 60Hz so switching between applications will not be as buttery smooth if you have already experienced a phone having a 90Hz refresh rate display. Interesting the company actually offers a 90Hz refresh rate on the Pixel 5. The fingerprint scanner, which is placed on the back of the phone is quite responsive and it takes no time to unlock the device. Also, it can be easily located with a finger, without looking. The device does not feature a 3.5-mm audio jack, hence the users can connect wireless headphones or USB Type-C ones to the Google Pixel 4a as it supports aptX, aptX HD, LDAC. Another great thing about this mobile device is that it supports stereo speakers. Both the speakers on the device are loud and clear and we did not feel any kind of distortion at max volume. But we felt lows were missing while the highs were higher than the average. Nonetheless, we loved listening to music and watching videos on this budget Pixel but for better audio quality a set of headphones are recommended.Performance and Cameras In terms of performance, we felt Google Pixel 4a is quite responsive. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G does a very good job. The mid-range octa-core SoC has been paired up with a single 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 128GB of internal memory. The smartphone excellently handles all the tasks as well as applications. When it comes to web surfing it loads all the websites effortlessly and our web browsing experience was smooth and buttery. On the gaming front, the device can easily handle all the game titles and Snapdragon 730 is well suited for fast-paced gaming such as Call of Duty. The Pixel 4a runs Android 10 OS out of the box and now Android 11 is also available, which is the latest version of Android. The operating system on this phone is clean and looks fresh and you don’t get any third party app or bloatware on the device with security patches up to date. Over that, the company promises at least three years of software support on the device. That means Pixel 4a will last for a couple of extra years, at least till 2023. The smartphone also comes preinstalled with a personal safety app that will allow you to quickly connect to emergency contacts, emergency sharing, safety checks and more.Google Pixel devices are known for having the best smartphone cameras. And the company has made efforts to provide Pixel 4a with excellent camera performance. It has a 12.2-megapixel single rear camera set up on the phone having an f/1.7 aperture with optical image stabilisation (OIS) for stable images. The smartphone supports dual-pixel PDAF, however, it lacks an ultra-wide-angle rear camera, which you only get on the 5G variant. The results that the camera offers are natural in colours. The dynamic range is great as well as the images are sharp whether there is good lighting or under low light conditions. The images delivered here are very good looking. However, the phone takes a bit longer time to process the images but it delivers super clear and detailed images. Also, some flare or scattered light can be seen during outdoor situations when there is direct sunlight therefore sometimes producing undesirable artefacts within the image. The camera app offers a couple of features such as dual exposure controls, Portrait Mode, Top Shot, Night Sight with astrophotography functions, and fused video stabilization. The Astrophotography mode is a great feature and can be used if stars are still visible but not in our case all thanks to rising pollution. Whereas when you shoot an image in portrait mode from the rear lens the sensor only focuses on the human subject but our subject element was something else.Else it offers a natural depth and blur effect, and it is hard to get this close to a natural effect on an expensive flagship phone which is a plus point. The low light images taken in auto mode and night mode delivered similar results. The night mode enhances the shadows but otherwise, both modes offer similar results. Although again in standard mode the images captured are amazing while in portrait mode the edge detection issue remains the same.On the front, there is a single 8-megapixel sensor with an f/2.0 lens housed inside a hole-punch display. Interestingly the front camera offers a good wide view however it lacks a wide-angle lens, just like the rear. One thing about the Pixel 4A, which we really appreciate is that you get the RAW option so you can choose between JPEG and RAW. For the front, it offers a video resolution of up to 1080p which we think is not a deal-breaker, but 4K would have been really great. When you shoot a selfie in portrait mode you get an option of setting up shadows, which is amazing and offers flexibility too. But the edge detection is not as good as we expected. One thing which we really liked about the phone is that you get exposure control during video recording. It offers video recording at 1080p in 30fps as well as 60fps and by default, it takes 4K videos at 30fps only from the rear cam.
The overall performance of the cameras on the phone is decent and there are a number of imperfections too. If you are looking for a camera-focused phone then Pixel is not for you because the Portrait mode is what we found to be disappointing while the standard camera performance is quite interesting and is the USP of this phone. It offers good details, sharpness, amazing colours keeping it natural so that you can enhance it while editing. Speaking of the battery, the Pixel 4a houses a 3,140mAh battery supported by an 18W fast charger. The battery capacity is smaller if we compare it with the fifth generation of Pixel smartphone. During testing, the battery ran for a whole day long if we watched a lot of videos and played videos and regularly browsed through our social media accounts. But on some days it lasted for more than a day or two which is very interesting on average usage. Additionally, if the battery capacity is smaller then it would not take much time to fully charge the phone.VerdictThe cameras on this phone gave us very mixed feelings. Although there is only a single sensor on the Pixel 4a and the standard camera mode on this device is just superb but when it comes to taking portrait images the camera either gets out of focus and it primarily focuses on human elements only and not the subject which we wanted it to focus. Also, the edge detection is not perfect even a smartphone half of its pricing gives excellent edge detection. We would only recommend this phone for its standard rear camera. Apart from that, gaming performance is also decent and might also give a tight competition to OnePlus Nord. ProsCompact and lightweightAndroid 11Good battery lifeConsNo IP ratingStorage is non-expandableAverage front camera performance
