And subsequently, the Super Night Scene Mode was brought to the Xiaomi Mi 8 and the Mi Mix 2S. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 is the latest smartphone to receive this update.
Weibo also confirmed through a post that the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 is about to receive the Super Night Scene Mode. This feature helps users to click HDR pictures in low-light areas. Xiaomi started with this feature after being inspired from Google’s Night Scene Mode. Mi Mix 3 received this feature last year during November as a part of MIUI 10 8.11.7 update. Then during the same month, this was released for the Mi 8 and the Mi Mix 2S as a part of MIUI 10.8.11.8 update. To recall, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 was launched in China and yesterday we got to know that it is also about to launch in India.
To talk about its specifications, the dimensions of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 are 159.2×75.2×8.1mm and it weighs 186 grams. The smartphone sports a 6.3-inch 1,080×2,340 display with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. It is powered by Qualcomm’s SDM660 Snapdragon 660 SoC. The RAM variants include 3GB, 4GB and 6GB. Social networking giant Facebook launched its Moments app back in 2015 saying that it was a way of managing pictures of you and your friends by uploading them to the app. With Moments, Facebook’s facial recognition software identified images of the user’s friends and enabled him to share the photos with them.
However, it seems like the idea behind Facebook‘s app never became a hit with people and maybe that’s why the company has today announced that it will be closing down the app on February 25.
The report about Facebook closing down its Moments app first appeared on CNET, which quoted Rushabh Doshi, director of product management for Moments saying, “We’re ending support for the Moments app, which we originally launched as a place for people to save their photos. We know the photos people share are important to them so we will continue offering ways to save memories within the Facebook app.”
While Moments was initially thought of as an interesting attempt by Facebook to create a photo-sharing app, it probably would have worked better had the images uploaded on the app actually linked to the social platform too. Most users just found it easier to directly upload their photos on Facebook instead of separately uploading them on Moments and Facebook to ultimately share with the same set of people.
According to Facebook, the main reason behind closing down Moments is that not enough people are using the photo-sharing app. But then, it’s also fair to point out that the social networking giant never really pushed its users to get on the app. It never tried to popularise the existing features of the app, and never rolled out new interesting features to get more people onboard.
However, we’ll just thank Facebook for one thing: That it didn’t force us to download the Moments app as it did with Messenger.
Coming back to Moments, if you were one among the few people who used the app which is on the verge of being closed down, you would be able to get all your photos via a tool that Facebook has created. You can do this by either creating a private album on your Facebook account or download all the photos on your device. You have until May to download and transfer these photos.

PUBG Corp. is currently testing a version of the game that is meant for low end PCs. Known as PUBG Lite, this game is being tested in Thailand as of now. However, developers through a blog post have said that the PUBG Lite will soon be available in other countries as well. In the blog post, it was mentioned that PUBG Lite was launched on January 10, 2019. Also, it mentioned that unlike PUBG’s steam version that needs high specifications, one can play this version without having the same kind of high-end hardware.
Now that a new PUBG version has been launched for low-end rigs, we will see people using budget laptops to play this game. Further good news is that PUBG Lite is free-to-play, therefore this reduces the entry barrier. This will shoot up the number of players of PUBG even further. The developers claim that the PUBG Lite will be just as good as the PUBG steam version despite being built for low-end hardware devices. Yesterday, developers publicized another blog post in which they said that PUBG Lite open beta is available in Thailand.
Let’s wait and see when PUBG Lite gets launched in India. The minimum specifications of the game are Windows 7, 8 or 10 64bit, Intel Core i3 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM Intel HD Graphics 4000 and 4GB onboard storage. The recommended specifications include Intel Core 2.8GHz, 8GB RAM, AMD Radeon HD 7870 or Nvidia GeForce GTX 660, 4GB disk space and Windows 7, 8 or 10 64bit.
Taking into account India’s current state of affairs, PUBG’s experience has become a bit unfavourable. In Gujarat, the state government issued a circular to the district authorities to ban PUBG in primary schools. The online game which has ubiquitous players worldwide has been deemed as addictive for primary school children in Gujarat. According to officials, the circular by the state primary education departments was issued after being recommended by the Gujarat State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
Moreover, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has also planned to ban the game across the country. It has sent letters to the state governments in the country to implement this ban.

Added feature form our PC counterpart: Air raid adjustment. In Sanhok and Vikendi, the size of the air raid area is reduced as the safe zone reduces in size.
In another news, PUBG Mobile is getting banned in primary schools in Gujarat. According to the state’s government, the game is very addictive and is contributing the poor results that students are scoring in their examinations.

We have some news for gamers! While Sony and Microsoft continue to maintain silence about the next PlayStation and Xbox, but that doesn’t stop reports and speculations about the upcoming consoles from getting circulated online. And the latest speculation suggests that the pricing of PS5 and the Next Xbox would be in-line with the original price of the PS4 and Xbox One.
It has also been reported that Microsoft will again be seeing following a two-pronged strategy. It will be launching a streaming-only Xbox that has been codenamed Lockhart and another more conventional and powerful model that is known as Anaconda internally. What’s more, the PlayStation 5 and the Next Xbox will be released around the holiday season next year.
We should mention that this speculation comes from Reddit and popular gaming forum ResetEra. While the post on Reddit with the pricing and specifications of PS5 and the Next Xbox was removed, some of the details were confirmed by a verified user on ResetEra.
According to media reports that have surfaced online recently, the price of the PlayStation 5 will start at $399, which is the same as the launch price of PlayStation 4 in 2014. On the other hand, the successor to Xbox One will reportedly be priced at $499, which is also the same as the price of Xbox One along with Kinect sensor. The variant that comes without the Kinect sensor was launched later at a price of $399.
Coming to the specifications of the PS5, the console is said to come with a custom 8 cores/16 Threads Zen 2 CPU coupled with a custom NAVI @8+ teraflops GPU and 12GB of GDDR6 RAM. It will reportedly have 1TB of SSD storage.
Speaking of the specifications of the Next Xbox, it is said to be powered by a custom 8 cores/16 Threads Zen 2 CPU clubbed with a custom NAVI @12+ teraflops GPU and 16GB of GDDR6 RAM. The console will reportedly come with 1TB of NVMe SSD storage.
Last but not the least, the Next Xbox streaming console will reportedly come with a custom 8 cores/16 Threads Zen 2 CPU and custom NAVI @4+ teraflops GPU. It is said to come with 12GB of GDDR6 RAM and 1TB of NVMe SSD storage. Reports suggest that Microsoft will price this model at $249.
The post on ResetEra reads “The hardware is partially true. Storage is true. Raytracing is true. Lockhart is not a streaming box. Xbox SoC codename is Anubis, check AMD’s plan. MS AI is not a part of the hardware, in other words, never heard of TPU or ASIC like it. How to implement Raytracing? See GDC 2019. Why they make a decision like Lockhart? See GDC 2019. Why there still no DevKit? After GDC 2019.”
While the user who posted this is verified, we suggest to take this information with a pinch of salt the companies officially break their silence on the upcoming gaming consoles.

PUBG Mobile is at the peak of its popularity and it has got millions of users across the globe completely hooked to it. The online multiplayer game is considered to be so addictive that it has actually been banned in primary schools in Gujarat.
The State government there has issued a circular to district authorities asking them to ban PUBG. According to officials, the circular by the state primary education departments was issued after it was recommended by the Gujarat State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
We should mention that this has been just days after a student’s body in Jammu and Kashmir – called the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association – had sought for getting PUBG Mobile in the state. According to the students who were a part of the protest, the game was responsible for their poor results in examinations.
Furthermore, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has also called to get PUBG banned across the country. The commission has also sent letters regarding this to all the state governments in the country recommending to ban PUBG.
Coming back to Gujarat, the circular issued by the state government has directed District Primary Education Officers to take whatever steps are necessary to ban the game in primary schools. According to the circular, the ban is now necessary as school-going children are getting addicted to PUBG and the game is “adversely affecting their studies”. Although it is not known which version of the game the government wants to place a ban on, it is being speculated that the ban will only be on PUBG Mobile and not its PC or console versions.
Jagruti Pandya, Chairperson of the Gujarat child rights body, said that the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has recommended placing a ban on the game across the country. She was quoted saying, “The NCPCR had sent a letter to all the states and recommended a ban on the game. All the states are required to implement it. Looking at the negative effects of the game, we had recently sent a letter to the state government recommending a ban on the game.”

Chinese smartphone maker Huawei has announced that it will be releasing a next-generation smartphone that will use its own technology in place of components made by companies in the United States.
This is being seen as an attempt by the company to compete with the Western industry in face of Washington’s allegations that the smartphones by Huawei may be a security risk. The smartphone brand is now spending heavily to develop its own chip technology, which is an area where American companies like Qualcomm are leading.
Coming back to the smartphone Huawei has spoken about, the company’s CEO for its consumer unit, Richard Yu has said that it will be seen showcasing its first foldable 5G handset at the Mobile World Congress 2019, that is scheduled to begin on February 25 in Barcelona. Huawei’s foldable smartphone will be powered by the company’s own Kirin 980 chipset and Balong 5000 modem instead of components from Us-based suppliers.
Yu also said that sales of Huawei smartphones and other products have not been affected by Western security warnings and he added that sales, in fact, grew by more than 50% in 2018. He was quoted saying that his unit’s sales topped $52 billion in annual revenue of the company has forecast for 2018. We should mention that till now, Huawei has not released its 2018 financial results for the entire company.
Shedding some light on what we can expect, Yu said, “In this complicated political environment, we still maintain strong growth.”
It is worth noticing that although Huawei is currently dependent on Intel Corp and some other suppliers based in the United States, it has developed its own chips for mobile phones and servers. We should also add that the company’s chipsets are only used in its own products.
According to Xi Wang of research firm IDC, Qualcomm has a vast array of products and patents for smartphone chips, but Huawei is also catching up in the race. Speaking about Huawei’s chips, he was quoted saying, “Generally speaking, Huawei’s chips are equal to Qualcomm chips in performance. Not only at the mid-level but at the high end, Huawei can compete with Qualcomm.”

Today, Apple has been granted a patent that allows it to build future iPhones and Apple watches in such a way that they will be able to detect poisonous gases and carbon monoxide (CO). The patent says that these future Apple products are going to have built-in sensors that would help them detect any sign of poisonous gas, especially CO near them. Carbon monoxide is considered to be one of the most dreadful gases that is injurious to health. It is often dubbed as a silent killer, because it is odorless and tasteless, one cannot be aware if they are inhaling it but once that happens it can severely affect your health.
Apple just might incorporate IP68 water-resistance on iPhone and Apple Watch with this framework in mind. However, it is probably not ingraining a physical gas sensor into its device that requires another physical chassis opening.
PatentlyApple said, “Apple’s patent claim #9 points to a “target gas consisting of at least one of ozone (O.sub.3), nitrogen dioxide (NO.sub.2), nitrogen monoxide (NO), sulfur dioxide (SO.sub.2), carbon monoxide (CO), methane (CH.sub.4), and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and wherein the components of a gas mixture other than the target gas comprises poisoning species including siloxanes, sulfates, phosphates and chlorides, and/or interfering species such as water vapor.” The patent shows diagrams of a “miniature gas sensing device encased in an enclosure.”
Talking about the enclosure, Apple Watch is being used in the patent demonstration. Speaking of air cleansing, such a technology has been adopted in the past to make air healthier around human beings. For example, smart air-purifiers launched by Tesla have special HEPA filter for its vehicles, opening the possibility for “Bioweapon Defense” filtration mode. Guilherme Rambo pointed out how your own IoT smoke detector with an Arduino circuit board, Apple Watch can have gas-detecting abilities. However, this is only possible if gas water-resistance is not impaired.
Before being implemented, water-resistant smoke detectors will require a lot of shrinking because they are generally bulky. So, it is going to take sometime before we see Apple Watch and iPhone being upgraded with this new technology that seems to be taken out of a sci-fi novel.

Popular messaging app WhatsApp is back in news. The Facebook-owned messaging platform has just received a new beta update for Android that brings with itself new features for photos that are exchanged on the app.
As a part of WhatsApp’s beta update version 2.19.18, the app has got support for a new ‘Show in chat’ shortcut and a new ‘Rotate’ feature. While the former allows users to quickly see media directly in the chat, the latter – as the name suggests – enables users to rotate images without leaving WhatsApp.
To access the two features, you need to click on the image you received on WhatsApp within the app, and then press on the three dot icon on the top right.
Here, you will see that ‘Show in chat’ is the second option and ‘Rotate’ is the sixth option. We should mention that ‘Show in chat’ shortcut was already available for iOS and ‘Rotate’ was earlier available as ‘Rotate left’ and ‘Rotate right’. However, it has now been clubbed into one.
Another new thing that we noticed on WhatsApp’s beta version 2.19.18 is a forward icon next to images on chat. So instead of clicking on the image, then pressing on the three dot icon to select the option of ‘Forward’ as we did earlier, you can just directly press on the shortcut in chat next to the image.
It is worth noticing that on pressing the three dot icon, you no longer see the ‘Forward’ option, which basically means that WhatsApp has started placing it next to the images in chat to make it easier for users to share their photos with multiple contacts via the app.
In unrelated news, The Facebook-owned messaging app broke down this week affecting almost 1.5 billion users across the world. Reports that followed the breakdown suggested that both Android and iOS users were affected and were not able to access the app on that day. It is worth noticing that this happened right after WhatsApp announced that it is rolling out the limit to forwarding messages to just 5 chats across the globe. The limit to forwarding messages was first released in India back in July 2018 in order to curb the spread of fake news in the country.

WhatsApp had introduced a separate app meant for business customers, known as the WhatsApp Business. Now, its being provided for desktop and web use by porting many of its popular features that were until now, only available on smartphones. WhatsApp Business app has spread to 5 million users currently. The features that WhatsApp has included for desktop and web apps include tools to organise and filter chats, as well as to quickly reply to customer inquiries. This feature is popularly known as Quick Replies.
It enables businesses to respond to common questions from customers in the form of pre-written replies. This is reminiscent of a Facebook feature called Saved Replies. This method also cateres to Businessmen that allows them to reply to customers with canned messages. The quick replies in WhatsApp can be activated with the use of “/” button. The Quick Replies feature joins other customer service features, such as automated greeting messages that are triggered when a customer calls a business account.
The automated greeting messages feature can also be used to get rid of messages that can be scheduled for situations in which you are unable to send immediate reply to customer inquiries. Now, these features are rolling out to desktop users and web app users along with labels and chat list filters (CLF). Labels helps you organise contacts and CLF helps users filter chat list by categories which may include unread messages, groups or broadcast slants. These features however, are not new to smartphones. As the company puts it, this move has been made so that business owners can easily execute their activities.
With this, it will be very convenient for them to send invoices, schedule appointments, and respond to customer inquiries. Now, they don’t have to resort to their smartphones in order to execute these tasks everytime. The introduction of WhatsApp Business account to desktop and web apps was done yesterday.

Realme is all set to launch a new budget smartphone in the Indian market. And in all probability, it may happen very soon because a dedicated landing page for an upcoming Realme smartphone has gone live on Flipkart. Right after the landing page went live on Flipkart, media reports surfaced online suggesting that the company may be planning to launch the Realme A1 smartphone.
It is worth noticing that the page on Flipkart says ‘Entertainment ka Boss’, which can only mean that the upcoming device by Realme will be focussed on entertainment. Although no features or specifications have mentioned on the e-commerce website, the landing page does suggest that the upcoming device will have a very high onboard storage space and will feature a display with a wide notch on top.
We should mention that Realme U1 and Realme 2 Pro smartphones come with a smaller waterdrop-style notch, the smartphone that has been listed is likely to be priced below the two devices. And if this is true, the company may be looking to launch a smartphone priced around Rs 10,000 in India. And needless to say, the smartphone will be exclusively available via Flipkart. The company also tied up with the e-commerce major when it launched the Realme 2, Realme 2 Pro, and Realme C1 smartphones.
A number of speculative reports have surfaced online that claim that Oppo‘s sub-brand plans to launch the Realme A1 mobile in the country and that is the smartphone the landing page on Flipkart is referring to. Speaking about Realme A1, a prior report in DroidShout claimed that the smartphone will be available in Black and Yellow colours. Although there is no word on the specifications of the upcoming device, they shouldn’t be as impressive as the ones we saw on Realme U1.
But considering that the handset will be focussing on entertainment, we expect to see a large display with Full HD+ resolution. It is also being speculated that the Realme A1 smartphone will be powered by MediaTek Helio P60 or P70 chipset. On the camera front, the device is speculated to come with dual rear cameras with AI enhancements. However, we should mention that all of this is just speculations right now, and we should take this information with a pinch of salt. We’ll update you when we will get to know more about the smartphone.

Cab-hailing app Uber has revamped its Fleet app in India. The app now comes with a feature to allow fleet owners to connect with new drivers and add them to their network. The Uber Fleet app has been rolled out to a number of new cities in India over the last few months.
And according to Uber‘s Head of Driver Product, Daniel Danker, the app is now being rolled out across the country. Danker also said that the Fleet app now comes with an enhanced experience with greater usability. The revamped app also has features that will help fleet owners manage their vehicles and drivers in a better manner, Danker added.
Speaking about the Driver matching feature, Danker said that it allows fleet owners to connect with even those drivers on Uber platforms who don’t own a vehicle. These driver-partners will come onboard only after Uber does a verification and fleet owners will be able to see the details of these candidates before they connect with them via the app.
Danker was quoted by PTI saying, “There is an opportunity for people, who didn’t approach us as they didn’t own a vehicle, to now come on board as a partner. We expect this (number) to be significant.”
He further added that besides India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Latin America also have a large number of fleet owners with a number of cars and there is potential to launch the Fleet app in these regions as well.
The ride-hailing app is locked in an intense battle with Ola in India as well as Australia and it reportedly has around three lakh driver-partners in India. Uber saw its revenue from India grow to Rs 21.5 crore, while its net profit was Rs 19.6 lakh in the fiscal year that ended in March 2018. The company has stated earlier that India is one among its top markets and it will remain committed to investing in the country.
According to Danker, once it launched the Fleet app, Uber found an increase in the operational efficiency of the fleet owners and a reduction in the vehicle downtime. It also observed that driver-partners on its network were completing more number of trips.

Twitter has been spotted testing a dedicated tag to highlight the original source of a thread. This tag, that is dubbed as “Original Tweeter” is visible to a small number of users. This is being executed on pretext for highlighting relevant replies in discussions and create a distinction between respondents and the original source of a thread. Previously, Twitter revealed its plans to bring engaging conversations on its platform. It also announced that it will start off with a beta programme to test its upcoming features.
The Original Tweeter tag is going to roll out for a handful users belonging to both Android and iOS platforms. Regarding this, it gave a confirmation to TechCrunch, “Twitter’s purpose is to serve the public conversation. As part of this work, we’re exploring adding more context to discussions by highlighting relevant replies – like those from the original Tweeter.” The latest development of this tag is probably going to help users distinguish the original source of a thread from multiple respondents. This, however, will be available to the masses later.
This move is done in order to eradicate fake accounts that spread misinformation on Twitter. The Original Tweeter Tag will help identify who has started with a thread. Even profile information such as photos, name if changed, won’t be an obstacle for users to identify the original tweeter of a thread. Similarly on Reddit, there is an original poster icon that one can see right after the username of the original Redditor of a thread. As mentioned, twitter announced that it is working in order to launch a new beta version for its upcoming features.
The ones who are enrolled in the beta testing for Twitter’s new features will initially be able to test colour-coded replies to distinguish multiple users. Also, there is going to be an algorithmic testing for emphasising important replies.

It seems like Vivo has decided to launch smartphones that look more and more futuristic and pack some really cool features. First, we saw the Vivo NEX last year that came with a pop-up selfie camera and an in-display fingerprint scanner. Then we saw its successor Vivo NEX Dual Display that, as the name suggests, comes with two displays and no selfie camera as the second screen on the device’s back panel can be used while clicking selfies with the triple rear camera setup. We loved the design of both of these smartphones. And now, the Chinese smartphone brand has unveiled its Vivo Apex 2019 concept phone that has some really cool features.
To begin with, Vivo Apex 2019 concept phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC clubbed with 12GB of RAM and is available in 256GB and 512GB storage options. Since it has the latest chipset by Qualcomm, the device has support for 5G and comes with a MagPort, which is a magnetic connector on the smartphone’s back panel that can be used for charging and data transfer.
Vivo Apex 2019 features a 6.39-inch AMOLED display that comes with the piezoelectric transducer to emit sound. So, much like Vivo NEX, the smartphone‘s screen doubles as a speaker too. It is worth noticing that no selfie camera is visible on the front panel of the newly unveil concept phone.
However, there is a key highlight we must mention: Vivo Apex 2019 concept phone has Full-Display Fingerprint Scanning. This means that you can touch anywhere on the smartphone’s display and it will unlock. We should mention that no other company has done this so far and this makes Vivo Apex 2019 concept phone’s fingerprint sensor the most advanced one yet.
The Vivo Apex 2019 concept phone has a combination of capacitive touch and pressure-sensing that replaces the physical power and volume rocker buttons placed on the side edges of the smartphone. The device sports a 12MP+13MP dual rear cameras coupled with an LED flash. As of now, there is no word on the selfie camera of the device, so we will have to wait until we find out more about it. We would also have to wait to know about the device’s IP rating and if it has support for wireless charging.
We should also mention that since this is a concept phone, certain changes may be made to it before it is launched commercially. We are looking forward to learning more about the Vivo Apex 2019 concept phone at the MWC 2019, that is scheduled to begin on February 25.

While most smartphone companies are trying to make their devices as bezel-less as possible, Chinese technology company Meizu has announced the world’s first portless, ‘holeless’ smartphone – Meizu Zero. But then we have to admit one thing: There were a number of signs that should have had us prepared for this. Firstly, the 3.5mm headphone jack is close to becoming extinct. Secondly, wireless charging is increasingly becoming popular and is even preferred by a number of people. Another very prominent sign was that buttons on most mobile phones have been replaced with software UI. Meizu Zero takes this trend to a new level by being completely holeless. Read on and find out everything that you should know about the Meizu Zero smartphone:
In This Article
Why is it called holeless?
Meizu Zero is being marketed at the ‘world’s first holeless phone’ as it comes without ports, speaker holes, buttons. The device doesn’t even have a SIM-card slot. Meizu Zero’s body is basically a slab made of ceramic that is nearly seamless. We call it nearly seamless because the smartphone has a camera bump on its back panel that is slightly protruding. We should also mention that Meizu Zero has microphone holes on its bottom edge.
Its display may remind you of Samsung Galaxy S9
One thing about Meizu Zero that we found to be very similar to Samsung Galaxy S9 is its display. The smartphone has a 5.99-inch AMOLED display that has a chin that looks a lot like the one we saw on Samsung’s flagship device. It also has a bezel on the top instead of the notch, much like Galaxy S9. We should point out that Meizu Zero has a fingerprint scanner embedded on its display.
How does it manage the sound?
The display of Meizu Zero comes with the company’s ‘mSound 2.0’ technology that is supposed to enable it to function as a speaker. This reminds us of the linear vibrator technology that we saw on Vivo NEX last year. For those unaware, in Vivo NEX, the sound was transmitted through the phone and relayed via the screen.
What about charging?
Needless to say, Meizu Zero can only be charged wirelessly. However, it is worth noticing that the smartphone has support for a speed of up to 18W through its ‘Super mCharge Wireless’ technology. This surpasses Apple’s 7.5W and Samsung’s 9W speeds.
How do you turn the phone on or adjust the volume without buttons?
Meizu Zero uses the haptic feedback system to offer virtual buttons on the side edge that replace the physical power and volume rocker keys. These can be used to turn the smartphone on or off and to adjust the volume of the device.
You would have to use e-SIM technology in Meizu Zero
As we mentioned earlier, Meizu Zero does not have a SIM card slot at all. So, users will have to use an e-SIM instead of a physical SIM card if they are interested in buying the smartphone.
Other key specifications
The Chinese smartphone brand has not shed much light on the specifications of the upcoming device. However, it did reveal that Meizu Zero will be powered by last year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor.
What about the IP rating?
If you are an interested buyer, you would be happy to know that Meizu Zero will come with an IP68 rating. This means that Meizu Zero will be waterproof and dustproof.
When can we expect other details?
Although as of now, there is no word on the rest of the specifications or the pricing of the smartphone, we can expect to hear more about it at Mobile World Congress that is scheduled to begin on February 25.

South Korean technology company, LG Electronics has announced that it will be launching its latest flagship smartphone that will come with a new user interface on the eve of Mobile World Congress 2019. For those unaware, the Mobile World Congress, or MWC, is scheduled to take place in Barcelona February 25 onwards and it will go on till February 28. And LG will be unveiling its LG G8 ThinQ smartphone on February 24 in Barcelona itself.
Global technology media has reported that the company has sent them a 10-second video invitation that shows a hand making sweeping motions above a white piece of paper only to finally reveal the message ‘Goodbye Touch’. According to Yonhap news agency, this points towards the fact that LG’s new user interface will enable users to operate its upcoming smartphone without physically touching it.
From what we can guess, users will be able to control LG‘s new smartphone via gestures. Although LG hasn’t mentioned a specific device’s name in the video, according to the company’s officials the G7 ThinQ smartphone’s successor will be named LG G8 ThinQ.
According to a previous report, the South Korean technology company is expected to unveil a dual connected display screen at the upcoming Mobile World Congress. With this, it will become a part of the race of technology companies that have been targeting the premium smartphone market with new form factors.
We should also mention that the company will be facing some competition from its local rival, Samsung Electronics, which has hinted that it may take wraps off its much-anticipated foldable phone on its February 20 event. Chinese smartphone brand Huawei is also expected to unveil a similar device soon.
Coming back to LG’s plans, officials from the company have also said that the smartphone maker plans to unveil its 5G-enabled devices during its event.
We should mention that LG has been working to gain back its position in the smartphone market because the company’s mobile division has been posting losses for almost two years now. While the premium segment of the smartphone market is dominated by Apple and Samsung, various Chinese players have captured the budget and mid-range segment. Amid this, it has been rather difficult for LG to maintain its stand in the smartphone market.
