Nokia 8.1 Plus renders and video leaked
Smartphone manufacturers are looking for new and innovative ways to say goodbye to the notch on the top of the display to provide users with a full-screen experience. While Vivo NEX had a pop-up selfie camera, Oppo Find X came with a slider camera, Samsung A8s started the trend of having a hole on the top left of the display to house the selfie camera of the device. Huawei and its sub-brand Honor followed the suit with their smartphones – Nova 4 and View 20 respectively.
And now, according to latest reports, HMD Global will also be getting a smartphone with a display cutout to its lineup. @OnLeaks, along with 91mobiles has leaked the first renders and 360-degree video of the upcoming smartphone, which will reportedly be called Nokia 8.1 Plus.
As per the images shared by 91mobiles, Nokia 8.1 Plus will be dominated by a large display and it will come with a cut-out on its screen to house the selfie camera. Since there is a hold on the display in which the selfie camera will be placed, there is no notch and the smartphone comes with thin displays. It is only the chin of the device that is a little broader than the bezels and it has the Nokia branding on it. The display of the device will be 6.22-inches in size and it is expected to come with a full HD+ resolution.
The left edge of the Nokia 8.1 Plus mobile has the volume rocker and power buttons sandwiched on it and the top has the 3.5 mm headphone jack. At the bottom, there is a USB Type-C ports, a speaker grill and a mic.
Flip over to the back and you will see a glass panel that has the Nokia logo in the centre and Android One branding at the bottom. Above the logo of the company, the fingerprint sensor of the smartphone is placed. So if you were looking forward to seeing an in-display fingerprint scanner on the next Nokia device, you will have to face disappointment.
The back panel of Nokia 8.1 Plus also houses dual rear cameras that will have Zeiss optics. Along with the dual rear camera setup, a dual LED flash is also present. As of now, there is no other word on the specifications of the upcoming Nokia 8.1 Plus smartphone, but we’ll update you as we get to know more.

Xiaomi Mi Box 4 SE with PatchWall UI launched: Price and specifications
Let’s admit: Smart TVs have now become mainstream. However, there are a number of users who would rather just have a regular TV at home and use a streaming dongle with it instead of spending too much money on a smart TV. So, if your television has an HDMI port, you can use Google Chromecast or an Amazon Fire TV Stick with it to get smart connectivity at an affordable price.
Considering all of this, Chinese consumer electronics maker Xiaomi has launched the latest version of its smart set-top box in China, called Xiaomi Mi Box 4 SE.
The Xiaomi Mi Box 4 SE bears a price tag of CNY 189 which, on converting, becomes around Rs 1,900. This basically means that the Xiaomi’s offering is cheaper than Google’s and Amazon’s. The smart set-top box comes with a PatchWall UI, which has previously also been seen on Xiaomi Mi TVs. We should mention that this helps in adding smart capability to any television when it gets connected to it via HDMI or AV.
The smart set-top box is also Wi-Fi enabled and features Full-HD streaming. It is powered by a quad-core processor clubbed with 1GB of RAM and has 4GB of internal storage. The connectivity options available are HDMI, AV and USB ports.
The PatchWall UI on Xiaomi Mi Box 4 SE helps you switch channels with your DTH connection, various apps or even voice commands.
The Xiaomi Mi Box 4 SE succeeds Mi Box 4 and Mi Box 4c, which are presently only available in China. Another notable feature of the smart set-top box is that has support for screen mirroring from mobile devices.
This isn’t the only product that Xiaomi launched today. The Chinese smartphone brand had hosted an event in its home country today where it launched the Redmi Note 7 smartphone, which is the first from its Redmi sub-brand. The key highlight of the smartphone is 48MP primary camera and the affordable price point at which it can be picked up. However, as of now, there is no word on when it will be launched in India.

Instagram’s new feature will let you post images to other accounts
Instagram will soon launch an update, which will let you see multiple accounts at the same time. The feature would be launched for iOS, however, there is no confirmation as to whether or not it will come to Android devices. There will be a “self-regram” option once you are about to share a new post. Also, there will be an option for “Post to Other Accounts” that will give you an option to publish your posts elsewhere.
For people who run multiple business accounts, are doing partnerships or takeovers with other accounts, or several photography hubs, it will be very convenient for them. Even for people who don’t do business, for them it might be helpful as it is quite trendy to have more than one social media account. Previously, there have been rumours that Instagram is testing regramming from other accounts to a user’s main feed. However, the company later said that it is doing no such thing.
To recall, Instagram was updated last year so that users could regram any public feed post shared by other users. Currently, Instagram is testing an Android Shortcut, which will help users import photos from Google Photos. This was tipped on the basis of what an Instagram representative told to a news source. As mentioned, it has only been confirmed that the new update will be rolled out to iOS users. Nothing of the same is known with regards to Android users.
Last month, Instagram came up with a voice messaging feature. In order to record your voice, you need to tap the microphone button and hold it until you record the voice note. Quite similar to Facebook and WhatsApp. The only difference is that Instagram came up with this update a lot later than them. Instagram had also come up with a “close friends” feature wherein people can choose whom to show their posts to. This update came under the pretext of evading cyber bullying. To recall, Snapchat has also released the same feature to stay at par with Instagram.

Whatsapp to include fingerprint authentication in its new version
Whatsapp messenger is going to rollout a new feature where one will be able to unlock the popular instant messaging app using the smartphones fingerprint sensor. This will require users to authenticate their devices with a unique identity with their fingerprint that will help them unlock this app. This feature was first spotted by WABetaInfo and according to its reports this update is going to be in the beta version for Android 2.19.3. Those who use third-party applications for securing Whatsapp, they would be fortunate to get this better alternative.
Previously, there were rumours that Whatsapp would include Face ID and Touch ID for iOS users. People are probably going to stop using third party apps to secure Whatsapp once they get their hands on the Finger Authentication feature. Based on the WABetaIinfo report, we know that the feature is only meant to unlock the app, and not content in it.
This update is meant for users to keep their Whatsapp content; be it messages, photos GIFs, videos, voice messages safely and prevent them from falling into wrong hands.
App developers are enhancing Whatsapp in order for better safety for users. However, there has been some bad news relating to this messaging app that could hamper user safety. Recently, there has been a malware related to Whatsapp which is coming to users disguised under an update named Whatsapp Gold.
Countless number of Whatsapp users have received messages regarding this update, telling them to download it. A lot of people have downloaded it thinking that they are actually true. There is a huge possibility that you will receive the same message if you haven’t received it yet. If you do, be informed beforehand and don’t fall for it. For your knowledge, Whatsapp rolls out its update in beta version and only a handful of users who have enrolled to the beta version receive them before it is available to the masses.
This is because app developers test the update before rolling them out fully. If you want to be one of the first users to receive Whatsapp update, enrol as a Beta tester for Whatsapp.

Bose has just made a move that will surely be appreciated by a lot of car-owners. The company is getting is QuietComfort noise cancelling technology to reduce noise in cars. The technology is said to measure the vibrations coming from your vehicle and consequently, it reduces the noise being emitted from it. According to Bose, the noise cancelling technology is mainly aimed at lighter and electric vehicles.
The QuietComfort is different than other noise cancelling technologies where there is thick insulation or specialised tires to reduce noise. It is worth noticing that such methods decrease fuel efficiency. The technology being unveiled by Bose includes accelerometers, proprietary signal-processing software, microphones to minimize control of unwanted noise.
The company commented on the mechanism of QuietComfort saying, “Accelerometers mounted on the vehicle body enable a Bose algorithm to continuously measure vibrations that create noise. This information is then used to calculate an acoustic cancellation signal, which is delivered through the vehicle’s speakers to reduce the targeted noise. Microphones placed inside the cabin monitor residual noise levels, allowing the system to adapt the control signal for optimized performance over different road surfaces, while automatically adjusting over time as the vehicle ages.”
This technology was earlier available for headphones but now Bose has decided to incorporate QuietComfort in vehicles as well. The company recalls that since 2010, it has helped car makers to make such advanced vehicles by providing them EHCs. This is a high targeted technology meant to reduce undesirable noise in engines. However, this is the first time the Framingham, Massachusetts- based company has come up with a technology to reduce in-car noise.
The technology is nothing new considering that Bose has developed noise-control technology for headphones as well. However, doing the same thing for cars is very unusual and is worth our attention to see how it works. In future, Bose is reportedly planning to collaborate with automakers during vehicle development process to incorporate its technology during production. According to the same reports, the QuietComfort cars are supposed to be invented at the end of 2021.

Nokia 8 Sirocco starts receiving Android 9.0 Pie update
HMD Global has launched all Nokia smartphones under Google’s Android 9.0 Pie programme, which basically means that all devices will get timely Android updates and security patches till two and three years respectively. But somehow, Nokia 8 Sirocco is one device by the company that didn’t get the update till 2018. And now, with the first thing that the company has started the year by rolling the Android 9.0 update to the Nokia 8 Sirocco smartphone.
It is worth noticing that HMD Global rolled out the Android Pie update to Nokia 8 Sirocco right after it rolled out the update to Nokia 5.1 Plus.
We should mention that the Android Pie update for the smartphone was actually promised for November by the company, but it got delayed. The company’s flagship for 2017 – Nokia 8 – received the Android 9.0 Pie update in December last year.
With Android 9.0 Pie, Nokia 8 Sirocco will be getting features like App Actions, Adaptive Brightness, Adaptive Battery, Digital Wellbeing and new gesture navigation, among others.
Nokia 8 Sirocco was launched in India in 2018 and came at a price tag of Rs 49,999. The smartphone’s front panel is dominated by a curved glass design and the back panel has a thin stainless steel frame. The smartphone comes with a 5.5-inch Quad HD pOLED display that has an aspect ratio of 16:9
As we mentioned earlier, Nokia 8 Sirocco was a part of Google’s Android One programme, but in spite of that, there was a delay in the Android 9.0 Pie update coming to the device.
The stunning looking smartphone never got the attention like other flagship smartphones do because it came with an older Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, which was released in 2017. Considering that it is 2018 flagship device, it should have ideally had the Snapdragon 845 processor. Other than this, the smartphone came with 6GB of RAM, and a dual rear camera setup with 12MP and 13MP Zeiss optics. For selfies and video calls, there is a 5MP front-facing camera on the device.
As far as the software of the smartphone goes, it had the stock Android version of Android 8.1 Oreo operating system.

[td_smart_list_end] Kingston HyperX Savage EXO external SSD review: Extreme storage performance for gamers
Kingston has been making a lot of great solid state drives that are easy on the pocket and deliver best in class performance. We have been using Kingston’s internal SSDs since a long time now and are quite amazed how they can give the some of the big boys a run for their money. Their drives are great to look at and many gamers and digital artists swear by it. We got another SS drive to review from Kingston, this time not for the inside of a PC or laptop, but for external usage. Called the Kingston HyperX Savage EXO external SSD, we gave it a thorough test and this is what we could make of this nifty little device.
Design
The Kingston HyperX Savage EXO external SSD is built for people and gamers who want extreme performance from their external storage drive. Before we talk about that, let us first talk about the form factor of this SSD. This external storage drive is built like a slim tablet, which is dressed in silverish grey and black colours. One thing to notice here is that there are no screws holding the external panels together. Instead they are locked in with each other.
The design is futuristic and unlike the boring large candy bar block this one looks quite nice at 10.24mm thickness. The twin curved edges on top flatten out midway, adding to the show. On the right side, users will find the USB Type C port along with a white LED light, which turns on when the data is being accessed to or from the Kingston HyperX Savage EXO external SSD. The HyperX branding can be found on the top panel of the SSD with the company code sticker located at the bottom.
In the box users will get two data cables. One is USB Type C to USB Type C that can connect the drive to a MAC and the other is USB Type C to USB Type A, to connect it with PCs and gaming consoles. A neat HyperX sticker is also part of the package in case you want to slap it on to the side of your console or PC. A bit of a show value.
Performance
The Kingston HyperX Savage EXO external SSD is very fast when it comes to performance. It is available in two configuration 480GB 3D TLC NAND and 960GB 3D TLC NAND. We got the 480 gigs version over for the review. This drive supports connectivity ports up to USB 3.1. So, with great excitement we put it to the test, to know how it actually performs.
Our test bench includes an Intel i5 8th Gen CPU, 8GB RAM, 480 GB SSD and of course to test comes with a USB 3.0 USB port. The company claims that the Kingston HyperX Savage EXO external SSD has read speeds of up to 500MBPS and write speeds of up to 480MBPS. So, we ran the tests to understand how true is that statement. On Crystal Disk Mark test bench, we got read speed of 462MBPS and write speed of 440.2 MBPS.
We were able to transfer a 1GB file from our system to the drive in under 2.6 seconds. This drive kept blowing our mind further and further. The Kingston HyperX Savage EXO external SSD is not only quick but super quick. When connected to a console, gamers will find up to 20% boost in game load times, and yes, it is compatible with both Xbox One and Playstation 4.
Verdict
At just 56 grams it is one of the lightest SSDs to arrive on our review table. With 3 years warranty the 480GB Kingston HyperX Savage EXO external SSD can be picked up for around Rs 14,000 from places like Nehru Place in Delhi or Lamington Road in Mumbai. Its original box price is Rs 15,999. Some might find it to be a bit steep, but the best performance does come at a bit of a price. Overall, we loved how this external SSD looks with premium materials used all around it. And when it comes to speed, both read and write, like we said it can give some of the best in the business a run for their money.
Pros: Good Looks
Lightweight and easy to carry
Extreme performance
Cons: Price on the higher side

Travis Touch Plus translator with support for over 100 languages is coming to India
One of the most major troubles that one can encounter while travelling to a new city is the language barrier. If you don’t know the language of the place you are going to, even doing the most basic of tasks can prove to be challenging. Imagine wanting salt at a restaurant and having to draw out for the waiter to understand! While at most places Google Translate can help, but if you travelling to a place that has censorship on certain Internet-based services like China or an area where there is little or no network, you can find yourself in a major problem.
Dutch-based startup Travis has addressed this problem and launched a product – Travis Touch Plus. The newly launched device can help in translating to and teaching over 100 languages. And the best part, you can do this with just a touch of a button.
The translator uses artificial intelligence and machine learning which has support for voice commands can be charged wirelessly and incorporated a language learning software. The company has emphasized that Travis Touch Plus can not only be used to translate languages, but also to learn them. It even claims that other than Travis Touch Plus, no other human help will be required for anyone who wants to learn a new language which is not his native tongue.
The translator was launched in the United States in December last year and is now set to come to India. As of now, there is no word on whether the device will support any regional languages, but it does sound like a good gadget for anyone who travels a lot around the world or is just simply interested in languages.
Speaking about the product, CEO Lennart Van der Ziel says, “Travis Teacher sets us apart and shows that we are doing more than just translating language, we are breaking language barriers. If we are able to help someone learn a language through our device, we have more than exceeded our goal to make bilingual conversation a frictionless experience.”
While there are a number of apps available that can be used to translate languages, we think it’s cool to have a gadget to learn new languages and be multilingual too!
