Apple to launch a foldable, 5G-enabled iPad in 2020: Report

Cupertino based technology giant Apple is reportedly working on a new iPad that comes with 5G connectivity and a foldable display. The report further adds that the company could launch the foldable 5G iPad as early as 2020, which is also the year when it is expected unveil its 5G-enabled iPhone and its first foldable smartphone.

The report comes from a London-based information provider Jeff Lin, who is an analyst at IHS Markit. He claims that Apple has quietly been working on a foldable 5G iPad, according to a report in 9to5Mac.

According to 9to5Mac, “The product would apparently feature MacBook sized screens, which isn’t too much of a stretch given that the iPad Pro already tops out in a 12.9-inch size. However, it is easy to imagine how an iPad mini-sized product that could unfold to 13 or 15-inch screen would be compelling.”

In addition to this, the analyst has also said that the foldable iPad would also come with support for 5G cellular radios that will enable fast mobile internet browsing.

We should mention that as of now, the company does not have any devices in its lineup that supports 5G connectivity. This year, Apple is expected to launch three iPhone models.

While Apple has still not launched its 5G device, a number of its competitors like Samsung have already announced their 5G offerings. But then, Apple has never really committed to being the first in the industry. Instead, it has mostly first seen how people react to certain new technology and then launches its own offering. The strategy seems to work for the Cupertino-based technology company too.

Another reason for the delay was the company’s legal battle with Qualcomm. Since it is the only chipmaker that is providing 5G-enabled chipsets till now, Apple could not opt for it without paying the amount it owned as a part of the legal case over copyright infringements. It did try to get Intel and MediaTek make 5G chipsets for it, but then, that didn’t work out the way Apple had intended.

Now that Apple and Qualcomm have agreed to a settlement, the company is free to have a fresh contract with the chipmaker and hence, it will be able to procure 5G chipsets from the company soon. So, Apple fans and loyalists may not have to wait for too long before they get to use 5G-enabled iPhones and iPads and this latest report about the foldable 5G iPad may be true.

Microsoft Outlook for web is getting redesigned

0

Last year, Microsoft had announced an opt-in experience so that the users could try the new Outlook on the web. The main purpose behind this was to get users’ feedback that will help the company to reshape the Outlook app.

Now, after months of getting this feedback and improving its service, Microsoft has finally announced the new Outlook app for the web. We should mention that the revamped Outlook has some features that were already present on Gmail.

The company has promised to deliver experienced, fun and faster experience for its users and let them personalize their emails with new updates. Outlook now enables users to add multiple categories to a message and use Search to make it easy to identify their email from the list. In addition to this, the new Outlook allows the users to use dark mode on their Inbox.

It now also allows the users to send emojis and GIFs to contacts from within the service and permits the users to mark a contact, group, or category as their favourite for easier access. These favourites will also get synced to Outlook for Mobile.

Microsoft Outlook

Outlook has also included a tab for the users at the bottom of the reading panel so that they can read as many emails as required by switching between them and the easily go back to the one that they were writing.

Recently, the company had announced new features in Outlook to help the users to save time with intelligent technology. These features help users stay organized by helping them organize meetings, future events, and other things.

Outlook has even added the ability for its users to filter to adjust which calendar they want to search. They can also add a timeframe that they would like to search across multiple calendars.

The new Outlook has also made it easier to create meetings. Using the calendar, the user can quickly compose and invite people, find a room, and even get suggested times for when everyone is available.

Outlook now allows users to snooze an email for a more convenient time. When they snooze an email, it disappears from their inbox and then re-appears as an unread message at the top of their inbox on the time and date they chose.

With the new Outlook, it’s also easier to keep track of all the events that you have during the entire month in order to plan things better.

Online meetings get more options as well. So, besides creating meetings, users can now also easily join an online meeting, and quickly check how many people are attending the meeting.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos’ divorce gets finalised with a settlement of $38 billion: Report

Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos and MacKenzie Bezos have finalised their divorce this week and have agreed for a settlement of $38 billion, according to a report. As a part of the agreement, MacKenzie Bezos will be getting approximately 19.7 million Amazon.com shares, that will give her a 4% stake in the company that is currently valued at $38 billion (approximately Rs 2,62,163 crores).

The report about this first surfaced on Bloomberg and it also said that after getting the money that has been agreed upon, MacKenzie Bezos will land on the 22nd position on Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

The divorce was finalised by a judge in Washington state’s King County. Jeff Bezos will be retaining a 12% stake and will continue to be the richest man in the world.

We should mention that MacKenzei Bezos, a novelist, had tweeted in April this year saying that she had given her husband all of her interests in The Washington Post and space-exploration company Blue Origin. She also handed him the voting control for her remaining Amazon stock.

It is also worth adding that she has promised that she will donate half of her fortune and this will make her one of the world’s ultra-wealthy philanthropists. She has already signed Giving Pledge in May this year.

The news of trouble in Jeff Bezos‘ personal life first came to light in January this year when it was announced that he and his wife were getting divorced after being married for 25 years. A report had surfaced online on the National Enquirer that said that the reason behind this was Jeff Bezos’ affair with a former news anchor, Lauren Sanchez.

Jeff Bezos and MacKenzie Bezos got married in 1993 and they have four children. Bezos had founded Amazon.com in a garage in Seattle in 1994 and then it was turned into the giant that e-commerce world today.

He first surpassed Bill Gates to become the richest man in the world briefly in July 2017. In November 2017, his wealth surpassed $100 billion for the first time and then, in March 2018, he was declared as the richest man in the world by Forbes. His net worth at that time was a whopping $112 billion.

As we mentioned earlier, even after the divorce, Bezos will continue to be the richest man in the world as he is retaining a 12% stake in Amazon.com that is worth $114.8 billion.

Samsung is being taken to court over the ‘water resistance’ of its Galaxy smartphones

0

Samsung has found itself in troubled waters once again. The company is being taken to court by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) over allegations that it misled its customers over some of its Samsung Galaxy smartphones’ water resistance. According to ACCC, Samsung has been showcasing its smartphones in or close to unsuitable environments like swimming pools and oceans since 2016, even though it did not have the basis to make such representations.

Speaking on the matter, ACCC Chair Rod Sims said, “The ACCC alleges Samsung’s advertisements falsely and misleadingly represented Galaxy phones would be suitable for use in, or for exposure to, all types of water, including in ocean water and swimming pools, and would not be affected by such exposure to water for the life of the phone, when this was not the case.”

The lawsuit against Samsung is said to be based on a review of over 300 advertisements.

A number of Samsung Galaxy devices have been advertised as having IP68 water resistance. This means that they can be kept in 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes without getting damaged. However, according to ACCC, this does not cover all types of water and it is worth mentioning that Samsung itself has said that Galaxy S10 is not recommended for beach use.

Sims further added, “Samsung showed the Galaxy phones used in situations they shouldn’t be to attract customers.” He further argued that customers value water resistance as a feature and would have been driven to buy the handsets on the basis of it, but were deprived of making an informed choice. He said, “Samsung’s advertisements, we believe, denied consumers an informed choice and gave Samsung an unfair competitive advantage.”

The South Korean technology giant spoke to Reuters about the matter and said that it is standing by its marketing and will fight the case.

We should mention that ACCC alleges that law breaches have been made by Samsung in over 300 advertisements. If these allegations are proved, each breach after September 1, 2018, can be subjected to a fine of up to A$10 million ($7 million). To be precise, this is triple the benefit of the conduct or as much as 10% of the annual turnover.

The first time that Samsung’s water resistance claims were questioned was in 2016 when its Galaxy S7 handset, that was shown to be dunked in fish tanks in advertisements, failed an immersion test.

Realme India CEO takes a jab on Redmi 7A, pokes fun at its display and camera

The rivalry between Realme and Xiaomi is nowhere close to ending. If anything, it is just getting fiercer by the day as both of them continue to compete with each other in the budget segment of the Indian smartphone market. It can be seen in the teasers of their smartphones and even the CEOs of the two companies often tweet taking a jab at handsets of the rival company. The same happened after the launch of Redmi 7A smartphone when Realme India’s CEO Madhav Sheth took to Twitter to poke fun at Xiaomi’s latest offering and compared it to Realme C2.

The first tweet by Sheth, who is now known as Madhav X on Twitter, tweeted that he hopes Realme C2 gets a real competitor in the budget segment as that would mean that the end users have more options to choose from.

While this was very civil, it was followed by a very direct attack on the Redmi 7A. He tweeted comparing the thin bezels and wider aspect ratio of Realme C2 to Redmi 7A’s thick upper and lower bezels. Sheth also used the hashtag #DeshKaRealChoice, which was also a jab at Redmi 7A’s tagline “Desh Ka Smartphone.”

The attack may not be a very subtle one, but Realme India’s CEO does have a point. The newly launched Redmi 7A smartphone does lag behind when it comes to modern aesthetic. It is not exactly common to see a smartphone that is being launched in today’s time to come with a design like that.

Sheth did not stop there. He then tweeted comparing the single camera of the Redmi 7A to Realme C2’s dual rear camera setup that consists of a 13MP sensor and a 2MP sensor. The fourth tweet by the CEO was a comparison between the specifications of the two handsets, and it highlighted all the major differences.

While some Twitter users found this to be funny, others thought that Realme was trying too hard to ruin the buzz around Xiaomi’s new device. Xiaomi does enjoy a fan base in India in spite of the fact that most of its smartphones are full of bloatware and ads, and loyalists didn’t keep their opinions to themselves on Twitter.

Redmi 7A is available at a starting price of Rs 5,999 in India and it will go on sale starting July 11. Realme C2 is also available at the exact same price, and this makes the competition between the two handsets inevitable.

Samsung’s Q2 2019 earnings likely dipped by 56% compared to last year

Samsung Electronics has launched a number of impressive smartphones this year. The company’s current flagship devices – Samsung Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+ and Galaxy S10e – have been appreciated by critics and fans alike for the kind of capabilities they offer. In addition to this, the company has also revamped its budget and mid-range line-up in India with its Galaxy M and Galaxy A series. Ideally, the South Korean technology giant should be having a great year in terms of earnings too. But then, Samsung’s Q2 2019 earnings forecast doesn’t really show this.

The company has said that its Q2 2019 profit is likely to be halved as compared to last year. According to the earnings guidance that has been released by Samsung, it is expected to fall by around 56% to 6.5 trillion won ($5.56 billion). The revenue of the company is also expected to slide by 4% to 56 trillion won ($47.89 billion).

We should mention that this would be Samsung’s lowest profit since Q3 2016. But then, back then the South Korean technology giant was facing the Galaxy Note 7 debacle. While Samsung has not given any explanations in its earnings guidelines, analysts have suggested that Huawei facing some very major problems with the US right now could have impacted the company’s chip business. But then, it may also have helped Samsung’s smartphone sales in some markets.

But then, things are not as bad for Samsung as they could have been. The company has gained from its display division and that definitely would have given a boost to its profit. According to a report in Reuters that quotes analysts, Samsung has been reimbursed with 800 billion won ($684 million) by Cupertino-based technology giant Apple. The company uses Samsung’s OLED displays in its iPhones and had to reimburse the South Korean company because it missed the sales target that had been agreed upon prior to the deal.

A recent report has also suggested that more devices by Apple will now come with OLED displays because the company is planning to take this step in order to satisfy a penalty that it owes to Samsung Display. So very soon, Samsung’s OLED displays may make their way to Apple’s tablets and laptops.

Apple had used Samsung’s OLED displays in iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. However, the sales of both these smartphones did not really do wonders this year. So using OLED screens in other devices would make perfect sense for Apple in order to fulfil the contract.

Over 10 million users have downloaded this fake ‘Samsung’ app: Report

Over 10 million people have been deceived by a fake app called ‘Updates for Samsung’. In the latest reveal, CSIS Security Group’s report has suggested that this app has been spotted on Google Play and redirects the users to an ad-filled website that charges them for downloading software updates.

This fake app takes advantage of people who are facing difficulties in downloading software updates for their Samsung handset. It is worth mentioning that more than 10 million people have already installed this app.

The app also assures its users to make it easy for them to download software updates. This app claims to offer a centralized location where the owners of Samsung devices can get their software and OS updates. But then, the app is not affiliated with Samsung and is a scam that loads the update[.]com domain in a WebView (Android browser) component.

By going through the app’s information on Google Play Store, one can see that many users have reported that it only redirects to a website that is full of advertisements. This bogus site suggests both free and paid Samsung software updates to the people.

Usually, the site slows the speed of free downloads by limiting to 56 KBps and then, they ultimately stop. So, if you try installing any free software, the download will never finish even with a reliable network. The website then crashes all the free downloads and the Updates for Samsung app forces the users to pay for $34.99 premium package if the user wants to download any files. Despite making payments, the users were not able to download software packages.

The app does not follow the Play Store rules and uses a third party payment system rather than using a method provided by Google for safe and protected payment channel.

We should also mention that the app also provides the users with a $19.99 SIM card unlocking service. There is a possibility that this is just another way to fool people and making money.

The app does not install any malware in the user’s device. But then, it is a very suspicious app developed to dupe people all over the world. Many people have been fooled by this app thinking that it will make it easier for them to update their Samsung devices. These types of fake Android apps not only deceive people for money, but they can also risk their privacy by collecting data from the user’s device.

Google Pixel 4 may come with a telephoto lens, hints the company’s camera app

Google got everybody talking when it shared the design of its upcoming Pixel 4 flagship smartphone months ahead of its launch. The image shared by Google led to a lot of speculations and fans tried to predict as much as possible about the features of the device with it. In the image, it could be seen that Pixel 4 will come with a square camera module that will come with two sensors. However, there is no clarity on whether that will be a telephoto lens or a sensor meant for super-wide-angle shots.

But then, we may have got the answer to this question as a new version of the Google Camera app may have given away which sensor it is. According to XDA Developers, the build of the app in its leaked version of Android Q had references that mention ‘telephoto’. So, it is very likely that the Pixel 4 smartphone will come with a telephoto lens.

We should mention that Pixel smartphones can take some excellent portrait shots. Some even say that the handset’s edge detection is better than iPhone’s or other Android devices. But then, it is worth pointing out that since iPhones use depth data that has been obtained from two camera sensors, they can produce very realistic images that show the transition between the subject and their blurry background. The same cannot be said about Pixel devices that tend to show a stark contrast between the foreground and the background. Google will be able to work on this and make it better with a telephoto lens.

To recall, a few weeks back, Google had taken to its Twitter account and shared the image of its upcoming Pixel 4 smartphone. The tweet that accompanied the image read, “Well, since there seems to be some interest, here you go! Wait ’til you see what it can do. #Pixel4”

As we mentioned earlier, the tweet was followed by a number of speculations. For starters, it can be seen in the image that there is no fingerprint scanner, which means that the device is likely to sport one on its display. The most prominent change is, of course, the cameras of the device. Firstly, the handset will come with more than one camera sensor, and secondly, they will be placed in a square module on its back panel.

google-pixel-3a-xl- 3

Another thing about the design of the Google Pixel 4 smartphone is that it’s back panel does not have the regular look that all other devices from the company’s flagship range do.

Pixel smartphones have always had a glossy glass portion on the top of their rear panel and a larger matte portion that on the rest of its back panel. Pixel 4, on the other hand, can be seen to have only one. But then, we can’t really say which one it is.

Asus ROG Phone 2 launch scheduled for July 23, company confirms

Taiwanese technology brand Asus has started sending out media invites for the launch if its next gaming smartphone – ROG Phone 2. The Asus ROG Phone 2 is the successor of the ROG Phone that was launched last year. The upcoming gaming handset by the company is set to launch on July 23. Recently, the company had also confirmed that its Asus ROG Phone 2 will sport a 120Hz display and had said that the device will go official later this month. Asus has also partnered with Tencent for its upcoming gaming handset. Asus ROG Phone 2 will directly compete with the likes of Nubia Red Magic 3 and Black Shark 2.

A number of Chinese bloggers have posted the image of the launch invite on Weibo that says that ROG Phone 2 will sport a 120Hz display and will be launched on July 23. We should also mention that the company’s ROG gaming division has also confirmed that the handset will be launching in July. But then, we should mention that as of now, the company continues to be tight-lipped about the launch of Asus ROG Phone 2 outside of China.

It is also worth pointing out that Asus ROG Phone 2 recently received three different certifications from US FCC, Wi-Fi Alliance, and China’s 3C, which pointed towards its imminent launch. A report that came out a few weeks back also accurately predicted that the handset will be launched on July 23. As we mentioned earlier, the company has also partnered Tencent to get some custom gaming experiences to the device. A few optimized games will also be added to the handset so that users can make the most of its 120Hz display.

The ROG Phone 2 is said to arrive in two variants in the country and will hold a starting price of CNY 4,399 (approximately Rs 44,400). However, as of now, not much is known about the specifications of the handset. Asus has confirmed that the ROG Phone 2 will come with a 120Hz display. The only other smartphone to have a display like this is Razer Phone 2, which is known for its gaming capabilities.

ASUS ROG Phone

To recall, Asus ROG Phone was launched in June 2018 globally but it made its way to India in November 2018. The smartphone some powerful gaming-centric specifications and was powered by an overclocked version of the Snapdragon 845 SoC. So, the possibility of Asus ROG Phone 2 being powered by an over-clocked version of the Snapdragon 855 SoC cannot be ruled out either. But then, we will have to wait till we find out more.

PlayStation 5 specifications and other details come to light with latest leaks

0

It seems like the marketing strategies of major technology companies are changing. Google is not the only one that officially gave away real information (or image to be more precise) of its upcoming flagship smartphone Pixel 4 before launch. In April this year, Sony also spilled some beans about its PlayStation 5 gaming console, even though it is more than a year from being unveiled. The company had revealed some PlayStation 5 specifications like the gaming console will be powered by a 7nm AMD Ryzen 3000 processor clubbed with 7nm Radeon Navi GPU. The company also announced that an ultra-fast SSD will be used in the console for game storage.

Now, some fresh leaks have surfaced online that claim to have some very specific information about the hardware that will be used in the PlayStation 5. We would recommend you take this information with a grain of salt, but then, it may also be valid.

The report has claimed that gaming console will come with an 8-core/16-thread Ryzen 3000 processor that will be clocked at 3.2GHz. In addition to this, the Radeon Navi-based GPU will reportedly have a total of 72 Compute Units, 64 shaders per CU and a clock speed of 1.55GHz. The device is said to come with 16GB or 24GB of GDDR6 memory. It has also been mentioned that PlayStation 5 will be able to deliver around 14.2 TFLOPS compute performance from the above-mentioned GPU.

Coming to the SSD, it is being speculated that the systems will come with 2TB of storage. Sony has also stated that till now, we haven’t seen any consumer-level SSDs that offer the kind of performance in PlayStation 5, so there can be a possibility that the gaming console could come with a PCI 4.0 interface.

Playstation 8

We should add that the first PCI 4.0 SSDs were announced right after the initial specifications of the PlayStation 5 came to light. The new SSDs are said to offer a substantial upgrade in terms of performance over its predecessor.

Sony has also said that the console will support 120Hz of output at 4K for games and will also have support for 8K. But then, as of now, it is speculated that the 8K will only be used for videos and not for gaming. The company also confirmed that the PS5 will have support for multiplayer backwards compatibility with the PlayStation 4, so it will be easy for users to upgrade their console.

Budget 2019: Government allocates Rs 10,000 crore for electric vehicles scheme, announces tax rebates for buyers

India’s Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today presented the Budget 2019 for the first time in her term. In her first Budget speech, she has said that the government will be encouraging the faster adoption of electric vehicles. To do this, the government of India has approved Rs 10,000 crore for Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME II) on April 1, 2019. She also added that the main purpose of the FAME II scheme is to make the right kind of charging infrastructure available and provide incentives for an easy and affordable mode of transport for the common man.

She also announced “We are launching interoperable transport card to be used for transport,” The transport card will be used for universal travel that can be used on various transportation modes, roads, railways, etc.

In addition to this, the minister also announced that anyone who buys an electric vehicle will be offered an exemption of income tax worth Rs 1.5 lakh by the National Democratic Alliance government. The government will also be focussing on local manufacturing of lithium-ion batteries. She also added that the government has reduced the customs duty on import of certain parts of electric vehicles to promote them in the country.

Sitharaman also said that the income tax exemption will account for saving Rs 2.5 lakh for customers during the entire period of purchase.

electric vehicle

Speaking further on it, she said, “We want a lot to develop India as a manufacturing hub for electric vehicles and want to encourage the purchase of these vehicles. The government will provide income tax exemption of ₹1.5 lakh to the owners of electric vehicles. Customs duty is also being exempted for certain components of electric vehicles.”

We should mention that recently, Niti Aayog had moved a note to the Finance Ministry to remove all the fossil fuel based vehicles by 2030. However, most automakers are opposing this as such a big shift in such a short span of time can prove to be disruptive for them. As of now, the auto companies do not have the capacity to take up big enough investments required for such a shift.

Yesterday, while presenting the Economic Survey, Nirmala Sitharaman said that electric vehicles represent the next generation in sustainable mobility and the country must pay emphasis on them so that it can take the needed appropriate measures to lower the total lifetime ownership costs so that it can attract consumers.

“While various incentives have been provided by the government and new policies are being implemented, it is important that these policies not only focus on reducing the upfront costs of owning an EV but also reduce the overall lifetime costs of ownership,” said the survey.

Apple iPhone sale falls in 2019, data indicates it is too costly for the Indian market

iPhones have always been considered to be expensive and premium. In the last few years, some reports said that they probably got too expensive for the Indian market. Now, there is data to support this statement. A report has surfaced online that claims that the shipments of Apple iPhone were down by 42% in Q1 2019 as compared to the first quarter of 2018. In April, the sales improved a bit because of discounts that were offered by the company, they reportedly dropped again in May.

The report, which first surfaced on The Economics Times and quoted analysts at research firm Counterpoint, said that iPhone shipments in India dipped to 2,20,000 units in the January-March quarter. Analysts

Also said that for the complete year, they are estimating shipments to rear 1.5 million to 1.6 million, but then, that would be a “10-17% drop from 2018,” and a 53% drop as compared to 2017.

While the sales of the iPhone began to rise after the price cuts and discounts offered by the smartphone company, the OnePlus 7 Pro and Samsung S10e started to give the devices a serious competition after their launch. This led to a fall in sales again.

The report has also said that Apple will begin manufacturing high-end iPhones like iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR in India soon. This will help the company avoid import duty and hence, the prices of the handsets will be reduced, and that would have a direct impact on the sales. It is worth mentioning that Apple already manufactures smartphones like the iPhone 7 in India.

Currently, the problem that is leading to a fall in prices of iPhones in India is reported to be the high pricing of the devices. We should mention that iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR were launched at a starting price of Rs 99,900, Rs 109,900 and Rs 76,900 respectively.

Earlier this year, Apple announced various discounts and offers on the iPhone XR. However, even after that, the cost of the smartphone was almost Rs 60,000 and hence, a lot of people could still not consider to buy it.

It is worth pointing out that these iPhones are expensive everywhere across the globe, their cost in India is unusually high because of the import tariffs that are being levied on products that are not manufactured locally.

As we mentioned earlier, the launches of OnePlus 7 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S10e did not help Apple much either as the competition only became stiffer. Both the devices come with premium specifications and are priced under Rs 50,000, so naturally, they had an edge over Apple.

Apple is set to launch it’s iPhone 11 in September this year. We would have to wait to see if that helps the company bounce back in the Indian market or whether it really is left with no other option apart from expanding its manufacturing in India.

JBL LIVE 400BT headphones review: Light weight and soundtastic

When we got the JBL LIVE 400BT on-ear wireless headphones, at first glance these headphones looked simple and sleek. We noticed that the company has labeled the left and right insides of the earpiece, so users would know which side to put on which ear. The JBL LIVE 400BT on-ear headphones look pretty decent with mesh design and it appears cool, young and stylish. So, like always we took the new gadget that has come to us for a review out for a spin. This is our review of the JBL LIVE 400BT headphones.

Design

Before we talk more about the design let us tell you about what you get inside the box of the JBL LIVE 400BT on-ear headphones. These come with a micro USB charging cable and a 3.5 mm auxiliary cable that is 4 ft (1.3 meters) in length. A mic and a remote come fitted with the Auxiliary cable. So, if the headphones run out of battery they can be wired into your smartphone for uninterrupted playback. Apart from that, you can also find an instruction manual inside the box. That is helpful when you first try to connect the headphones with your device, the instructions are pretty simple to follow.

Comfort is the most important thing after sound quality whenever we buy headphones. The padding on the JBL LIVE 400BT is decent. So before even listening to music, we tried to assess the comfort. Before putting on the headphones we were worried about if they might not fit our head, but the headphones fitted pretty well because of the padding and the expandable headband (which by-the-way has metal extenders).

The on-ear headphones covered our entire ears but if you have a larger head your ears might peep out of the ear cups. But, JBL is marketing it at over the ears headphones, not on-ear, so this could be the case with some. The padding is soft but after 30 minutes of continuous use, they become a little tight.  Soft PU leather material has been used to make the ear cushions. This does not make the ears feel sweaty and does not fall off while working out or jogging.

The left ear cup sports a Micro USB charging port for charging the earphones. It takes around two hours to get the headphones fully charged. Once juiced up the headphones can deliver up to 24 hours of playing time. On the right ear muffs, it sports a power switch that can be turned on by sliding it. The Blue flashing light indicates that the power is on. The left earcups also consist of a volume control button and a multi-function button to play/pause the music.

Performance

The headphones can be easily connected to your smartphone using Bluetooth. Over that, two devices can be connected simultaneously. The headphones can be paired with your Android device and a tablet or laptop at the same time with Bluetooth connectivity. Once paired the headphones do not require permission to connect again. It connects automatically every time it is turned on. To test the connectivity, we placed our smartphone in one room and then went to my balcony (about 30 feet away) to water the plants and we still had connectivity in the balcony. Amazingly, when we kept the headphones on the desk while working, we were able to still listen to the music that was playing. The audio drivers are very loud.

To test the sound quality, it is very important for us to listen to music that we are familiar with. Please Don’t laugh, so we tested the on-ear headphones sound quality by playing one of our favourite track by Charlie Puth “We don’t talk anymore”. It was easier for us to quickly pick out places where it sounds different, better or not so bright. However, the sound is quite good overall.

The headphones come with Ambient awareness feature that allows you to listen to your favourite tracks while you hear ambient sounds too. This feature helps you hear the sound of traffic or horns while you are crossing or walking on the road or traveling in a metro or a bus by lowering the volume of headphones.

The feature can be easily switched on or off by clicking a dedicated button on the right earmuff. As mentioned earlier the JBL headphones are equipped with passive noise cancellation feature that cancels most of the unnecessary sounds in the surroundings.

The JBL400BT headphones come with another feature of Google assistant and Alexa connectivity. Pressing the right ear muff activates the Google voice Assistant or Alexa. This can be also done by just saying Ok Google.
