Facebook loses approval of Apple to test apps, use tools on iPhones

Apple is backlashing at Facebook over issues of privacy. Apple revoked a set of testing tools that Facebook uses in order to ensure apps are ready for use on Apple iPhone and iPad. This move even closed down internal apps that Facebook employees use every day. Facebook tried to breach the rules set for Apple’s App Store by paying users to share personal data. These users also include teenagers. Facebook had to shut this programme down after TechCrunch reported about it. Albeit, Facebook defended its move by saying that users had given their personal data on the basis of their choice. The social networking giant also said that in case of teenagers, they had parental consent. Facebook has taken a hit after Apple took measures against it. Though the move doesn’t impact distribution for consumers through the app store, it could still mean delays to new version including the main Facebook app. After Apple shut down Facebook, it led to turning off of the internal Facebook apps that are used to run the company. Facebook paid users between the age of 13 to 35 years, an amount of $20 a month to install Facebook Research App. This app helped it to track phone and web usage habits. A Facebook spokesperson has gone on record and said, “Key facts about this market research program are being ignored. Despite early reports, there was nothing ‘secret’ about this; it was literally called the Facebook Research App. It wasn’t ‘spying’ as all of the people who signed up to participate went through a clear on-boarding process asking for their permission and were paid to participate. Finally, less than 5 per cent of the people who chose to participate in this market research program were teens. All of them with signed parental consent forms.”
Facebook has constantly been criticised due to the breach of users’ privacy. To look back, one major data breach took place last year when Cambridge Analytica obtained information of millions of Facebook users through a third-party app. For the latest gadget and tech news, and gadget reviews, follow us on TwitterFacebookand Instagram. For newest tech & gadget videos subscribe to our YouTube Channel.

Here’s why Apple decided to ‘punish’ Google

Apple has pulled app-development tools from Google after the Cupertino-based technology company reached the conclusion that the search giant broke its rules, according to a report in Bloomberg. It is worth mentioning that Facebook‘s app development also had to face this for around 24 hours when its app was found paying teens $20 in order to get full access to their phones. Since Apple takes its users’ privacy very seriously, it didn’t go down too well with the company. However, we should also point out that Facebook gained back its access a day later. Coming back to Google, its employees are not able to access test versions of iPhone apps that they are making, according to sources quoted by Bloomberg. One of the sources reportedly added that security alerts are limited too.
Speaking on the issue, a spokesperson at Google said, “We’re working with Apple to fix a temporary disruption to some of our corporate iOS apps, which we expect will be resolved soon.” An ‘enterprise certificate’ is offered by Apple that helps some companies work on creating iPhone apps without going through the usual app review process. And this was used by technology giants Facebook and Google to collect data about user activity for their research. It is worth noticing that the two companies stopped this after TechCrunch reported about it earlier this week. When Apple pulled Facebook’s certificate, it said that the social networking giant broke its rules. And now, it has done the same for Google to punish the company, which makes it apparent that it considered the search giant to be guilty too. We should point out that when Apple pulled the enterprise certificate of the two companies, the public versions of their apps were not affected. However, the companies’ important app development work must have been completely disrupted. And considering that most Google employees use Android smartphones, the move was harsher for Facebook. But then, what Facebook did was also far more invasive in nature as compared to Google. According to the report in Bloomberg, Apple has told BuzzFeed’s editor that it is working with Google to “reinstate their enterprise certificates very quickly.” For the latest gadget and tech news, and gadget reviews, follow us on TwitterFacebookand Instagram. For newest tech & gadget videos subscribe to our YouTube Channel.

Huawei to launch its foldable 5G smartphone on February 24

Chinese smartphone brand had earlier confirmed that it has been working on a foldable 5G smartphone and thereafter, it also announced that it will be launching the device at MWC 2019. Huawei has now taken to Twitter to share a press invite that is scheduled for February 24, 2019 in Barcelona, which is a day before the Mobile World Congress begins. It is also worth noticing that Huawei’s launch will be four days after Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event, at which the South Korean technology giant is expected to launch its Galaxy F foldable phone. The image that has been shared by Huawei on Twitter shows what appears to be a foldable smartphone’s hinge. So, it is safe to assume that the company is keeping its promise of launching the 5G-enabled foldable smartphone at MWC 2019 in Barcelona.
The Chinese smartphone brand had announced its plan to launch the device later this month in January this year. Reports have also suggested that the foldable phone by Huawei will be powered by the company’s HiSilicon Kirin 980 SoC and the Balong 5000 modem. To recall, reports about Huawei working on a foldable smartphone had first surfaced online in the fourth quarter of 2017. Another report claimed that Huawei has plans of beating Samsung in the race of foldable phones by launching its device before the latter’s. However, since Samsung has already hinted that it may be launching its foldable phone at its Galaxy Unpacked event on February 20, Huawei will not be able to do that now. Coming back to Huawei’s device, it is expected to feature a 7.2-inch display and the company will reportedly produce around 24,000-30,000 units of the smartphone. However, there is no word on how many units will arrive eventually. A number of smartphone companies are expected to unveil their foldable phones this year. Besides Samsung and Huawei, LG, Motorola and Xiaomi will also be seen launching their respective foldable phones this year. Cupertino-based technology company Apple will join the foldables bandwagon a year late in 2020, according to various reports, as the company has no plans of launching a foldable device at its September event this year. Oppo K1 set to launch in India on February 6

The Oppo K1 that was launched in China back in October, 2018 is coming to India next week. To be precise, it is launching in India on February 6. The device is one of the smartphones which come under the Rs 20,000 price segment. The 4GB RAM variant of Oppo K1 was launched with a price tag of CNY 1,599 which is Rs 16,900 (approx.). On the other hand, the 6GB RAM variant comes at a cost of CNY 1,799 that is roughly Rs 19,000. Since there is a high possibility of the smartphone to be under the Rs 20,000 price segment, it is going to give a tough competition to phones within this budget from Vivo and Nokia. Especially, considering that the smartphone is powered by Snapdragon 660 SoC and has a 25MP selfie camera, it is going to be a formidable competitor against other brands within the same budget segment. The Oppo K1 measures 158.3×75.5×7.4mm and weighs 156 grams. It sports a Super AMOLED 6.4-inch capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 1,080×2,340 pixels. The screen aspect ratio is 19.5:9 and it is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The Oppo K1 runs on Android 8.1 Oreo skinned with ColorOS 5.2.
The internal storage option of 64GB is on both the variants. In terms of camera, there is a dual rear camera setup that comprises of a 16MP and a 2MP sensor. Connectivity options include WiFi 802.11, dual-band, WiFi Direct, hotspot, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, microUSB 2.0 and USB On-The-Go. The Oppo K1 comes with a non-removable battery of 3,600mAh and comes in three colour options. These include blue, red and silver green. This would be the first launch of the year for Oppo India in 2019. The company has had a great 2018 with lot of good launches. With the new launch, will it be the start the company wants for 2019, we will get to know in some time. Apple engineer fired and arrested for leaking confidential information to China

An engineer who used to work in Apple Inc. has been arrested on the grounds of supplying classified information to China. The name of the culprit is Jizhong Chen and was caught when another employee reported that he saw the engineer take photographs of a sensitive work space. Chen was found recently to have applied for a job at a China-based autonomous vehicle company. After he was caught, he was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment and was charged with a fine of $2,50,000. The US has reportedly accused China earlier for encouraging trade secret theft in order to build its own industry. NBC Bay Area reported, “Apple Global Security found thousands of files containing Apple’s intellectual property, including manuals, schematics, and diagrams, photographs taken inside an Apple building and an assembly drawing of an Apple-designed wiring harness for an autonomous vehicle.” The report also quoted Apple which said, “Apple takes confidentiality and the protection of our IP very seriously and we are working with authorities on this matter and are referring all questions to the FBI.” To recall, during July, 2018 another Apple employee, Xiaolang Zhang was accused of trying to leak trade secrets to China-based XMotors and was arrested by federal agents. Also, Apple rusticated over 200 employees in different parts of the company—from its electric car project code titled “Titan”. More news is centred around Apple. The Cupertino based tech giant is going to get rid of its Lightning ports and incorporate USB-Type C in the devices which are going to launch soon. It has already incorporated the USB-C port for iPads and laptops. Now, it is only left to launch it for iPhones.
Though this news has just been announced, it might take some time for Apple to establish the new port in its upcoming iPhones. One strong reason is that it has made a lot of money from selling devices with Lightning ports. So, it won’t harm to keep selling and earn more of the same and wait for a longer duration before it releases the USB-Type C port. Coming back to the scam, this is the second time an Apple employee is being arrested in 6 months, where the first one was Xiaolang Zhang who, as mentioned, was arrested in July, 2018. This 14-year old Fortnite player ‘discovered’ Apple’s FaceTime bug a week back

Cupertino-based technology giant Apple was recently introduced to a bug in FaceTime that enables users to listen and see other people’s video calls even before their call is accepted. The company has acknowledged the bug in FaceTime and has tried to reduce the problem by disabling conference calls on the service. However, before this privacy issue came to light, a 14-year old Fortnite player from Arizona had found the issue while playing the online game with his friends. The boy, named Grant Thompson was reportedly playing Fortnite with his friends on January 9 when he decided to call his friends so that they could speak to one another while playing the game. When he dialled his friend’s number, he was able to hear him talk to someone else even when his friend had not answered the FaceTime call. Thompson told his mother about the issue who then warned Apple about it via emails. And all of this reportedly happened a week before the news of the FaceTime bug became viral. We should mention that iPhones were not the only device that was affected by the bug. In fact, all Apple devices that have FaceTime including iPads, Macs and iPods were affected by the security lapse. After the flaw became public, the company had temporarily shut down the FaceTime feature,
Michele Thompson, the boy’s mother, was not sure herself if it was just a glitch or a bug in the system. She tried it out herself, but once she was sure, she wrote to Apple about the issue. After sending the mail, she tweeted to Apple, sent the company Facebook messages and called the support line too. She even sent a fax to the general counsel with her company’s letterhead. It was only after a week that she uploaded a video talking about the flaw on YouTube. Thompson was told by an Apple representative that she would have to register as a developer to report the bug to the company. Once she did that, she did get a response from Apple on January 23, however, the company didn’t say anything about how it plans to fix the issue. It is worth mentioning that Apple had introduced the group Facetime feature in October 2018 with iOS 12.1. Apple has promised to roll out a patch to fix the security flaw this week. Till it is fixed, the group Facetime feature would not work. Pepper Potts to reportedly appear as Rescue in Avengers: Endgame

Gwyneth Paltrow’s role as Pepper Potts throughout the MCU movie series has been remarkable. She has done a brilliant job in enacting Tony Stark’s (aka Robert D. Junior) sidekick. The way Pepper Potts-Tony Stark relationship evolves is quite interesting. She starts off with being his assistant and then slowly they grow close, and end up getting married. And now, people are saying that they are going to have a child in Avengers: Endgame. Also, Gwyneth Paltrow is going to be introduced as Rescue, Pepper Pott’s alter ego. Rescue was first debuted during Iron Man 3 and that was the only film in which we saw her. There have been leaked images in which the actress is wearing the Rescue suit. Earlier there have been rumours that Pepper Potts is going to make her presence as Rescue in Avengers: Endgame. These leaked images add more weight to the rumours. The suit that she is wearing in the image is quite different from what we saw in Iron Man 3. This suit is similar to the one Tony Stark wears in order to transform into Iron Man in the last Avengers.
To recall, Tony Stark and Pepper Potts have a conversation about having a child, in Avengers: Infinity War. So, there is a huge possibility that we are going to see their child during the upcoming sequel that is set to release three months from now. Some reports also say that the couple is going to have a daughter. Gwyneth Paltrow confirmed in a report by Cinemablend that Tony and Pepper are indeed going to have a child in the movie.
Here is what she said, “Pepper and Tony have had a real long journey together. She obviously starts as his dutiful assistant, and then the relationship evolves, and now a decade later they’re married, and they have a child. Their relationship has evolved in all of the ways that great romances evolve.” Avengers: Endgame has been a frequently discussed topic amongst people, with many theories coming up with regards to justifying the action of characters in Infinity War and how they are going to shape the next film. Well, all rumours and theories will be put to rest on April 31, 2019, when the movie releases worldwide. Apple may substitute the Lightning port with USB-Type C for its upcoming devices

Rumours are rife that Apple is currently testing iPhones with the USB-C charging ports instead of the Lightning ports. This might not be surprising to the ones who regularly keep in touch with the industry trends. Nowadays, every other Android smartphone is launched with the USB-C Type port. The upcoming smartphones will susceptibly launch with the same port. The USB-C port delivers more power, more data, more efficiently compared to the Lightning port or the older USB ports. Apple has already incorporated this port on its laptops and iPads. To recall, USB-Type C has been described by many throughout the last few years as the “next big thing”. Apple is taking quite a long time to switch from Lightning ports to USB-Type C ports for iPhones. This announcement is a very recent one. Now that the USB-Type C has just started to be tested, it might take a year or two for it to be incorporated in the iPhones. Another argument which makes this speculation more of a possibility is that Apple has made a lot of money with the Lightning ports and sales of its cables and accessories. So, it won’t harm to continue with the Lightning port for some more time. Apple releases very few iPhones every year. So, the number of devices which will have the USB-C will wont galore, until a few years have passed. With this news, we can say that accessory makers are going to be pre-occupied in making hardware for iPhones based on the USB-Type C. Accessory companies have targeted their products towards iPhones as there is a huge demand for this device in the smartphone market.
Now that USB-Type C will be introduced to iPhones, accessory companies don’t have to prioritise between Android and iOS devices. They will have demand from a major chunk of the mobile industry and are going to make a lot of money out of it. So, USB-Type C is not only advantageous to all these tech giants, as an improvement over the Lightning port, but also will help small companies which make accessories for mobiles. State Bank of India data breach: Account balance, phone numbers of millions exposed

India’s largest bank, the State Bank of India (SBI) has suffered a data breach that has left the data of millions of users exposed. The data breach is said to have happened because shockingly, the bank did not have a password on its server. According to reports, the ‘SBI Quick’ server that allows customers to message the bank for information regarding their accounts, has now been secured. However, when it was open, it had archives of messages that dated back to December, according to a report in TechCrunch. To be more specific, that means there were millions of messages regarding customer’s balance information, loan inquiries, financial transactions among other data.
SBI’s data breach was first spotted by an unknown researcher and was verified by Karan Saini, who had found a leak in India’s Aadhaar database. We should mention that there was no sensitive data on the server, however, come details like partial account numbers and contact information of the customers can make them vulnerable to demands for ransom. It is also worth pointing out that there is a possibility of a social engineering attack, which is a very common way to commit financial frauds. These attacks require human intervention to correlate a phone number to a bank account that has a high balance. Speaking about this, Saini told to TechCrunch, “The data available could potentially be used to profile and target individuals that are known to have high account balances.” One of the main reasons that the scope of the problem is vast in this case is that SBI is reported to have more than 500 million customers across the globe and they have 740 million accounts. But till now, the bank has not revealed any information about which customers’ data was exposed and who all are vulnerable to such threats. However, it has been reported that even in single data, the server shoots out around 3 million messages. So the scope of the problem is indeed very vast. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that the breach happened because of negligence on SBI’s part. We should mention that data breaches are constantly increasing in spite of the fact that companies are spending a lot in terms of security. They happen because of all sorts of reasons like an organizational failure, process failure or, as in SBI’s case, employee negligence. HMD Nokia collaborates with Pixelworks to incorporate HDR displays in future smartphones

The latest topic surrounding HMD Global is that it has partnered with Pixelworks to bring HDR displays to its upcoming smartphones. Pixelworks makes HDR tone mapping, support for HDR 10 content and conversion of real time SDR to HDR. As of now, we have no idea about which smartphones will launch in the pretext of this partnership, but we expect that Nokia 9 PureView, the one which is set to launch in MWC 2019 on February 24, is going to be one of them. Nokia 9 PureView yesterday got certified in China’s 3C agency. The certification showcased the smartphone with the model number TA-1094 tells that it will come with 18W fast charging. Also, it has been said that the Nokia 9 PureView is going to come with an AD-18WC fast travel charger in China. Earlier leaks have tipped that the Nokia 9 PureView will house a 4,150mAh battery and sport a 6-inch AMOLED QHD+ display. Coming back to Pixelworks, the credit behind the HDR-enabled PureDisplay in the Nokia 7.1 goes to the company. To recall, the smartphone was announced during October last year. It sports an IPS 5.84-inch LCD capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 1,080×2,280 pixels. The screen aspect ratio is 19:9 and it is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The Nokia 7.1 was launched with Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box. However, it has been updated to Android 9.0 Pie recently, and is part of Google’s Android One programme.
The Nokia 7.1 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 636 SoC and comes in two ram variants. These are 3GB RAM and 4GB RAM versions. The former brings an internal storage of 32GB while the latter brings 64GB. The storage is expandable via a microSD card by up to 400GB. There is a dual rear camera setup that consist of a 12MP and a 5MP sensor. The front camera on the other hand, has an 8MP sensor that is meant for selfies. The device houses a 3,060mAh non-removable battery and comes with multiple colour options. These include WiFi 802.11, dual-band, WiFi Direct, hotspot, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, NFC and USB 2.0. With Pixelworks partnering with HMD Nokia, we expect to the see a lot more smartphones from the company to sport an HDR display in 2019. At least from the 5 series upwards all Nokia phones of 2019, should have HDR display. No sooner the Samsung Galaxy A50 images were leaked, we are here with a new leak of two more Samsung smartphones. These smartphones are called the Samsung Galaxy S10 and Samsung Galaxy S10+. The smartphones were renders have emerged on the web and have been displayed in white, black and green colour. These smartphones are said to launch in the European markets, also with blue colour. However, the blue coloured smartphones are going to launch at a later date. The white colour option comes with a tint of blue and green. The Galaxy S10+ on the other hand will arrive with a 6.4-inch display and dual front camera setup. Both smartphones will have a larger bottom bezel compared to the top bezel. Insiders also suggest that the Samsung Galaxy S10 models will sports the latest Exynos CPU as well Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipsets. Ram should lie between 6 GB – 8GB and 128GB storage would be native to the devices.
As mentioned, the renders of the Samsung Galaxy A50 have also been leaked recently. And from what we know, the device is going to sport an Infinity-V display and a triple rear camera setup. In terms of connectivity options, the Samsung Galaxy A50 will feature a USB-Type port and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The 4GB RAM is going to bring along storage variants of 64GB and 128GB. The device is said to house a large battery of 4,000mAh. Vivo V15 Pro image leaked online, pre-booking to reportedly begin on February 15

Chinese smartphone maker Vivo last year launched its futuristic-looking NEX smartphone that comes with a pop-up selfie camera. Vivo NEX (review) garnered a lot of appreciation for its design and performance, and maybe it’s because of the good feedback that the company got that now it is set to bring the experience to the masses with its upcoming mid-range smartphone. Earlier this week, the company had sent out invites to the tech press informing them about a smartphone launch on February 20. And it is being speculated that Vivo V15 Pro is the smartphone that the technology company plans to launch on the said date. Reports about the Vivo V15 Pro have been circulating online for a few weeks now and the outline of the smartphone on invite shared by the company only confirms the rumours that it will come with an elevating selfie camera. And now, the first image and the availability details of the upcoming smartphone have surfaced online. According to a report in 91mobiles that quotes sources in the retail chain, the Vivo V15 Pro smartphone will be available for pre-booking starting February 15, which is five days before the official launch of the device. The report has also revealed that the smartphone brand will announce some launch offers on Vivo V15 Pro by collaborating with the likes of Bajaj Finserv, HDFC Bank, Reliance Jio, and other.
While it is being speculated that the device will be priced under Rs 25,000, as of now, there is no clarity on exactly how much customers will have to pay to pre-book the Vivo V15 Pro. Speaking about the promotional poster that has been shared by the company, it shows that the Vivo V15 Pro smartphone will come with an all-screen experience with barely-there bezels and sport an in-display fingerprint sensor. 11-year old boy seeks ban on PUBG, moves Bombay High court

Back on Thursday, an 11-year old boy moved the Bombay high court by seeking a ban on the worldwide played game, Player unknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG). He filed a public interest litigation against the game, on the pretext that it promotes violence, aggression and cyber-bullying. The PIL was filed by 11-year old Aham Nizam’s mother on behalf of him. Tanveer Nizam, Aham’s lawyer said, “The petition has also sought a direction to the central government to form an Online Ethics Review Committee for periodical checking of such violence-oriented online content.” The PIL will likely come up for hearing before a division bench headed by Chief Justice NH Patil. Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also talked about PUBG during his speech to students regarding exam stress. The game has been banned in primary schools in Gujarat by the state government. It issued a circular, telling district authorities to make sure that this game is no longer accessible in primary schools. The circular which was distributed by the state government was approved by the Gujarat State Commission for Protection of Child Rights. The state government has directed the District Primary Education Officers to take necessary steps in order to ban the game in that state. In that circular it was written that it is necessary to ban PUBG because, for school going kids, it is “adversely affecting their studies”. Recently, a student body in Jammu and Kashmir, known as Jammu and Kashmir Students Association demanded a ban on PUBG. They protested that the game should be banned because it was responsible for their poor examination results.
As per our knowledge, this ban would only be implemented on PUBG mobile and not on PC or console versions. Jagruti Pandya, Chairperson of the Gujarat child rights body said while talking about the ban being recommended by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), “The NCPCR had sent a letter to all the states and recommended a ban on the game. All the states are required to implement it. Looking at the negative effects of the game, we had recently sent a letter to the state government recommending a ban on the game.” For the latest gadget and tech news, and gadget reviews, follow us on TwitterFacebook and Instagram. For newest tech & gadget videos subscribe to our YouTube Channel.

Oppo to launch a smartphone with a pop-up selfie camera: Report

Last year, we saw a number of smartphone companies trying to avoid the display notch in innovative ways. A notchless display basically means a full-screen experience for the smartphone user, and needless to say, anyone who uses their device for entertainment would like their handset to be that way. While Samsung Galaxy A8s tried to deliver a full-screen experience with a hole-punch display to house the selfie camera, Chinese smartphone makers Oppo and Vivo opted for a slider camera and a pop-up selfie camera in their respective devices. But then, it’s common knowledge that Oppo and Vivo have the same parent company, BBK Electronics. So, they are often seeing borrowing features from each other. And this may happen once again as an image of an Oppo smartphone with a pop-up selfie camera has surfaced online. And we should mention that this feature has only been seen in Vivo NEX till now and it is likely to be seen again in the upcoming V15 Pro smartphone. Coming back to Oppo‘s smartphone, tipster Ishan Agarwal has posted several images of the upcoming device on his Twitter profile. The leakster has mentioned that the smartphone in the images is either Oppo R19 or Oppo F11 and he also said that the photos were sent to him by an anonymous source.
In the leaked images, it can be seen that the front panel of the smartphone has a small chin and is nearly bezel-less at the top. On the back panel, there is a dual rear camera setup coupled with an LED flash and a fingerprint sensor can be seen right below it. It is also worth noticing that while the elevating selfie camera in Vivo NEX was placed on the left side of the top edge, in Oppo’s smartphone, it is placed right in the centre of the top edge. An image also shows the software that has been used in the device. We can see that the upcoming smartphone by Oppo runs the latest Android Pie skinned with the company’s own ColorOS 6. It also has the January 2019 security patches running on it. Furthermore, the images also reveal that the upcoming Oppo smartphone will have dual-SIM capabilities and may even be able to support a microSD card via a hybrid slot. That’s all that we know so far about the device so far. We are waiting for more details about it to surface online like its exact specifications, launch date, or some other unique features. We’ll update you when we get to know more! Instagram Stories now has 500 million daily active users

Instagram Stories, a feature that the photo-sharing app picked up from its rival Snapchat that enables users to share what they are doing with their followers via pictures that disappear after 24 hours, now has 500 million daily active users. The number has been given by Instagram‘s parent company Facebook during its latest earnings call. We should point out that the number has increased significantly from 400 million daily active users that were reported in June last year. At the earnings call, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that the feature is continuing to grow at a fast pace. He also added that the Stories format, which is now present on Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger and Facebook‘s own app, will be monetised “at the same levels” as the News Feed. We should mention that when first introduced on Instagram, the Stories feature was not monetised. However, lately, Facebook has started adding advertisements to it in order to generate some revenue. Going forward, Stories on Instagram will also get a shopping feature so that companies can start selling their products via Stories.
Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg pointed out that Instagram Stories helped Washington DC-based online photo frame maker, Framebridge, get more than 25% of new customer sales. She also talked about companies like Cetaphil which have been using the feature on Instagram to increase the sales in their stores. Sandberg said, “Today, we’re also announcing that 2 million advertisers are using Stories to reach customers across our family of apps. We’re making it easier for advertisers to adopt their campaigns for Stories.” Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg also said that the company plans to introduce new products that will bring “major improvements to people’s lives.” For instance, WhatsApp Payments, which is currently being tested in India, will be rolled out in more countries in 2019. He also added that private sharing in Groups and Stories is also set to become more central to the social networking platform’s experience. He said, “We’re going to get to a point soon where people feel like Facebook is about as communities as it – is about communities as much as it’s about your friends and family where almost everyone is in a group that’s meaningful to them and that community is a central part of their experience.” He also spoke about Facebook Watch saying that its 400 million users accessed the service every month and on an average spent 20 minutes on it per day. Zuckerberg also said that Facebook is also set to start the shipping of its Oculus Quest. Facebook also revealed that it now has a consolidated figure of 2.7 billion monthly users. This number includes users from Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp. For the latest gadget and tech news, and gadget reviews, follow us on TwitterFacebook and Instagram. For newest tech & gadget videos subscribe to our YouTube Channel.
