Google rolling out over 50 new education features to Classroom, Meet and G Suite

0
The tech giant Google has rolled out over 50 new features across its learning and education products that include Classroom, Meet, Chromebook and G Suite for Education that has been rebranded to Workplace for Education to support more virtual learning. The pandemic has taught a new way of learning as well as schooling, therefore, forcing students, educators and teachers to opt for video conferencing platforms. Also, the Google classroom evolved with more than  150 million students, educators and school leaders took to Google’s platform for teaching and learning.  Soon Google will roll out more than 50 features to Classroom and other Google products that you will see over the coming months. New features will be added to Classroom including advanced analytics to help admins better understand usage and roster sync to save them time setting up classes. Soon, for teachers using Google Workspace for Education Plus or Teaching and Learning Upgrade, Classroom add-ons will let them choose their favorite EdTech tools and content from a marketplace and assign it to students directly inside Classroom — all without extra log-ins. Admins will also be able to install add-ons for teachers in their domains. Later this year admins will be able to use Education Plus to create classes and populate and sync rosters directly to Classroom from their Student Information System (SIS). Grade Export will soon be expanded to Aspen SIS which was earlier available to Skyward and Infinite Campus customers letting teachers track grades and push them from Classroom’s Gradebook to their SIS, eliminating the need to put grades in two places.  For the admins with the Classroom audit logs, you can now root out Classroom-related issues such as who removed a student from a class or archived a class on a specific date. Classroom audit information will soon be available directly in the Admin Console. Using Education Standard or Education Plus soon admins can get deeper insights about Classroom adoption and engagement. You will be able to schedule exports of Classroom audit logs to BigQuery, where they can get adoption and engagement insights. Apart from this Google Classroom will also be getting student engagement tracking features allowing educators to see relevant stats about how students interact with Classroom, such as which students submitted an assignment or commented on a post on a particular day. In addition to this, the company is also updating the Classroom Android app to work offline or with intermittent connections. Students will now be able to start their work offline, review assignments, open Drive attachments, and write assignments in Google Docs — all without an internet connection. It will also be easier for the students to attach and submit photos of their paper assignments using the app for teachers to review. They can also combine photos into a single document, crop or rotate images, and adjust the lighting. Google rolling out over 50 new education features to Classroom, Meet and G Suite Soon teachers as well as students on the web, iOS and Android will be able to customize Classroom assignments and posts using bold, italics, underline and bullets. While the original reports for instructors to detect potential plagiarism will soon be available in 15 languages including English, Spanish, Portuguese, Norwegian, Swedish, French, Italian, Indonesian, Japanese,  Finnish, German, Korean and Danish, Malay and Hindi. Google G Suite for Education has also been rebranded to Google Workspace for Education to offer more choices and control. This will include Classroom, Meet, Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides and many more. And to meet the diverse needs of institutions around the globe, from Pre-K to Ph.D.,  it will now be available in four distinct editions instead of just two. The free edition of G Suite for Education that has been rebranded to  Google Workspace for Education Fundamentals will not receive any changes besides a new name and new features. While the standard edition will provide institutions with enhanced security through the Security Center, greater visibility with tools such as advanced audit logs and more controls like advanced mobile management to make online learning even more secure.  The teaching and learning upgrade will provide video communication capabilities in Google Meet, features to enrich class experiences in Classroom and tools that guide critical thinking and academic integrity with originality reports to enhance educators’ instructional impact. Google Workspace for Education Plus that was formerly known as G Suite Enterprise for Education will be delivering comprehensive solutions with advanced security and analytics, teaching and learning capabilities and more. According to the company Education, Fundamentals and Education Plus are already available and institutions will be able to purchase Education Standard and the Teaching and Learning Upgrade starting  April 14, 2021. Whereas institutions who have already purchased G Suite for Enterprise for Education will start to see the new edition name, Education Plus, in their admin console and will automatically get all the features of Education Plus. For Google Meet soon educators will get more visibility and control, including the ability to set policies for who can join their school’s video calls. Emoji reactions in Meet are coming this year, giving students lightweight, non-disruptive ways to engage. This year Google Chrome OS will be getting over 40 new Chromebook models built for education, with information on how to choose the right ones for each schools’ unique needs, and over 500 Admin Console policies that will help manage and optimize Chromebook fleets.  New accessibility features, like color cursors on Chromebooks and Switch access, let students learn with tools that suit their needs. Twitter to roll out Voice DMs features for Android and iOS in India, Brazil, Japan

0
The microblogging website Twitter has rolled out its experimental feature to allow users to record and send voice messages through direct messages. The new voice messaging feature on Twitter is now being tested in India. As per the social media platform this feature will be released to India, Brazil, and Japan starting today in a phased manner. The Voice DMs or audio tweets by Twitter came into light last year in June when the company began testing it for iOS users. The audio tweets will give Twitter a more human touch, therefore, allowing users to record their voice clippings to publish as tweets. This functionality works similar to text tweets and the Voice DMs has a set limit of 140 seconds of audio. During the trial last year the feature was only available for iOS users but in India, this will be rolled out for both Android and iOS users in India, Brazil, and Japan starting Wednesday, February 17. Besides iOS and Android, the web users will only be able to get access to see voice tweets in their feed and be able to listen to them. Manish Maheshwari, Managing Director, Twitter India said, “India is a priority market for Twitter and that is why we’re constantly testing new features and learning from people’s experience on the service here. We’re excited to bring the voice messages in DMs experiment to the country and give people a new way to express themselves and help them connect through the nuances, emotion, and empathy built by hearing someone’s voice,” How to tweet Voice DMs on Twitter?
  • Open the Tweet composer.
  • then tap on the voice recording icon.
  • Once recording begins, tap again to stop recording
  • Before you send, one can also listen to what message they have recorded.
  • Also, you can press-and-hold the voice recording icon to start recording again
  • After you’re done swipe up and release the icon sending it across.
The Voice Tweet will appear on your follower’s timelines alongside other tweets. One can tap the image to listen to the tweet. Alex Ackerman-Greenberg, Product Manager for direct messages, Twitter said, this feature will give people more options to express themselves in conversations on Twitter, both publicly and privately. “We hope letting people record and send voice messages as DMs will enhance their conversational experience by adding convenience and expression.” For the latest gadget and tech news, and gadget reviews, follow us on TwitterFacebook and Instagram. For newest tech & gadget videos subscribe to our YouTube Channel. LG XBOOM Go PL7 Bluetooth speaker review: As good as it gets

LG is one of the premium audio and video products producer around the world. They have some great devices and recently they brought there new XBOOM portable range to India. We got our hands on the LG XBOOM Go PL7 Bluetooth speaker to know what is so great about it. We spent quite some time with it and understood it in and out. Check out our review of the LG XBOOM Go PL7 Bluetooth speaker, if it is worth the buy? Design Out of the box, the LG XBOOM Go PL7 Bluetooth speaker screams for attention. Dressed in the darkest shade of blue, the speaker is in the form of a large capsule with curved sides. Which also have the LED covers in the form of a curved disc. Somewhat similar to Captain America’s shield. These vibrate with the sound and add to the show. The speaker is made of rubberised material (that runs all over the exterior) which protects it from dust and water splashes. Yes, this speaker is water-resistant and has an IPX5 rating. The top of the speaker has Power, play/pause, Bluetooth, sound boost and volume keys. At the back users will find a pop-able enclosure, which has the Type-C charging port, Aux-in, USB playback port and also buttons to dim the LED light and also a multi-connect button to pair it with other LG PL7 devices. The LG XBOOM logo can be seen carved at the back with the Meridian logo on the front under the buttons. A mesh runs across the face of the LG XBOOM Go PL7 Bluetooth speaker which adds to the show. Under the speaker, you will find special rubber feet, which keep the speaker stable on any surface. The device is heavy compared to the competition, but since it has a much larger battery and larger audio drivers, we did not mind the weight. Nevertheless, the LG XBOOM Go PL7 Bluetooth speaker is still very portable and can be lugged around with ease. LG XBOOM Go PL7 Bluetooth speaker Performance Coming to the part which we loved the most about the LG XBOOM Go PL7 Bluetooth speaker, its audio quality. We loved every beat this nifty speaker threw at us. The sound is exceptional thanks to engineering by Meridian, but more importantly because of the 2 audio drivers and with 2 sub-woofers inside by LG. The bass is exceptional and with sound boost on it become remarkable. We were amazed at how good it sounds. The total sound output is 30W RMS, which is great for large rooms and outdoors. We did multiple tests with it. We used the AUX-in and connected it with our TV, the sound was superb and much better than the 20W RMS speakers out TV has. We never knew the daily TV soaps also have a great sound to showcase. Same was the case when we connected via Bluetooth to our smartphone and then the laptop. The movie and gaming experience was superb. Netflix, Prime Video and Amazon music all sounded much better with these speakers. We were trying to find a hole in the armour, but frankly, the LG XBOOM Go PL7 Bluetooth speaker does not have one. The battery lasts for very long too, a massive 3,900 mAh battery comes in the LG XBOOM Go PL7 Bluetooth speaker and it lasted over 23 hours for us. The charge time is a bit high at 5 hours plus with a 15W USB Type C charger, we used from a Samsung smartphone (since there is no charger in the box of this speaker). In most cases, we had the charger connected so it was not much of a problem for us. In case you will use it outside or without the charger, a full day battery playback is very good, by far the longest we have come across when it comes to BT speakers. You can also use the speaker as a speakerphone for your smartphone. Remember it does not have a MIC, so you need to keep the smartphone close to you for the voice to be audible. Also, you can download the LG XBOOM app to unlock additional features of the device like lighting effect and equaliser. We generally did not need it as the default mode is great for any type of listening. The highs are great, so are the mids and lows. The sound did not crack at full volume and at 30W RMS, the LG XBOOM Go PL7 Bluetooth speaker are pretty darn loud. Overall, we loved the sound! Verdict At Rs 12,999 the LG XBOOM Go PL7 Bluetooth speaker is going up against JBL and Sony. Can it give the competition a run for its money? Hell yes! These are great party speakers to own. These can double up as a soundbar for your television too. Moreover, they are portable and water-resistant so people can use them on the fly. All in all, Meridian engineering and LG audio driver is a very good combo to own. Pros: Exceptional sound Long battery life Looks great Cons Weight could have been less For the latest gadget and tech news, and gadget reviews, follow us on TwitterFacebook and Instagram. For newest tech & gadget videos subscribe to our YouTube Channel. 7 reasons why you are getting the blue screen of death (BSOD) in Windows 10 and its fixes

Microsoft frequently releases Windows 10 updates to keep it compatible with the new hardware and devices along with the required drivers. When you force the update on your PC, you may run into some errors including Blue Screen of Deaths during or after the installation. A blue screen of death (BSOD) error indicates that Windows 10 has detected a system error that can damage/currupt the operating system and must shut down immediately. As a result, you are greeted with a blue screen with a sad emoji and a message that reads, “Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We’re just collecting some error info, and then we’ll restart for you.” Here are the probable reasons for the BSOD to occur and their solutions.

1) Insufficient space in system disk

Windows 10 requires 2 to 10 Gb of free space in your system disk for proper functioning. Installing a new driver or software generates several new permanent and temporary files that may cause the memory overflow forcing the Windows to enter into the INVALID_DATA_ACCESS_TRAP. This may also occur when the Windows is starting or shutting down simultaneously.
Insufficient space in system disk
Insufficient space in system disk
Solution: Deleting the temporary files or having software like CCleaner to keep the registry entries cleans and avoid the Error 0x00000004. You can delete the temp files by typing Run in Windows>type Temp in the box>press enter>delete all files from the temp folder.

2) Faulty device drivers

Outdated drivers can also turn out to be the reason behind the error. If the system drivers are not compatible anymore, you need to update them. Solution: To update the system drivers, follow these steps:
  • Click on the ‘Windows’ icon
  • Search for ‘Device Manager’ and hit the enter key
  • Select the driver that needs to be updated
  • Right-click and choose the ‘update driver’ option
You should run Windows update every now and then too, so that latest drivers are installed automatically on your Windows 10 machine.

3) BIOS misconfiguration

When an incompatible version of BIOS is installed or the firmware gets currupt, the BIOS gets overclocked or misconfigured leading to random issues including BSODs. Sometimes, an outdated BIOS can also result in a Blue Screen of Death. Solution: Configure the optimum boot order in the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) or Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) firmware. Reset the clock speed, voltage settings, and BIOS memory options to their default settings. Check for BIOS update on the company website and update it as well.

4) Hard disk corruption

The Error 0x4 can also be caused by a broken hard disk or RAM corruption. The hard drive is an electro-mechanical device consisting of numerous memory indices. When a part of memory gets damaged. This occurs because the memory index the CPU wants to access is damaged, the CPU is not able to access the memory index forcing Windows to enter into the INVALID_DATA_ACCESS_TRAP. Solution: You can verify the hardware corruption by any interface tool or by using the command chkdsk / f. Cleaning the RAM after removing it from the slot and reinstalling it also sometimes solves the problem.

5) Unidentified bug of Windows 10

Some viruses can also cause a Blue Screen of Death, especially those that spoil the master boot record (MBR). Whenever there is a possible threat to the NTFS file system from malware, the automatic mechanism of NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM (Error Code 0x00000024) shutdowns your computer to prevent further damage.
Unidentified bug of Windows 10
Unidentified bug of Windows 10
Solution: Your anti-virus software should be up to date and should be able to scan the MBR and boot sector. Use trusted anti-virus software like Norton, BitDefender, Kaspersky, and McAfee to remove any infection on your computer.

6) Outdated Windows operating system

The chances of facing the blue screen error increase if you have pending updates in your Windows operating system. Solution: To update the Windows operating system, follow these steps.
  • Click on the Windows icon
  • Go to the Settings
  • Select the Update & Security section
  • Click on Windows update>check for updates

7) Incorrect entries in the system’s registry

A Blue Screen with the error message REGISTRY_ERROR means that the registry found an Input-Output error while reading its files. The reasons may be hardware-software incompatibility or file system corruption. Solution: Keeping the Windows operating system safe from almost all registry errors. You can also choose to troubleshoot the BSOD registry error in the Windows 10 settings. You can try to system restore and go to the last working point, in 9 out of 10 times this method works. How to record WhatsApp voice calls?

WhatsApp is more than just a messaging application. Several people conduct their business on WhatsApp. While others use it to share their views, images, and files that have a direct and indirect influence on their lives. WhatsApp call is one of its features where you can connect online to a person having the same app. There are primarily two ways to record your WhatsApp incoming or outgoing calls. These are as follows.

Method 1: Using another device – an easy way out!

Recording WhatsApp calls is straight-forward if you have a secondary smartphone. While making a call on WhatsApp, you just need to put your phone on speaker and record the WhatsApp calls using the sound recorder on another device. If your second smartphone does not have an in-built sound recorder, you can easily download it on the App Store.

Method 2: Record WhatsApp calls on the same phone using a third-party application

There are several applications available on the App Store that can record WhatsApp calls. Most of them offer a simple UI and get the job done with little effort in the following steps. 1) Open the Google Play Store, and search for the ‘Record WhatsApp calls’ and install an application with a high rating and downloads. 2) When you launch the app, you will be asked to provide it the permission to access your calls, contacts, storage, and microphone settings. 3) Follow the on-screen instructions and enable the app in the ‘Notification and Accessibility’ option in the system settings. As soon as you give permission, you’re ready to go. The app will automatically record all your Whatsapp calls without time-limit and mixing the contacts.

It should be noted that WhatsApp is an end-to-end messaging service. When you voluntarily allow a third-party app to get access to your contacts, it may breach your privacy. Although the third-party apps claim to only record the audio at your end of the call, you must still be vigilant and choose only a trusted application. Everything you need to know about Hyperloop and when can you expect the first ride for consumers

Hyperloop is an intended means of passenger and freight transportation. The terminology was first used to define an open source vactrain design published by a joint team from Tesla and SpaceX. Hyperloop is defined as a sealed tube or system of tubes having low air pressure allowing a pod to move through it free of air resistance or friction. The concept of utilising low-pressure or almost vacuum tubes as means of a transport system has a long history. However, it was entrepreneur Elon Musk who popularised the concept with his ‘Hyperloop Alpha’ research paper in 2013. And then came many.

Why is Hyperloop different?

Hyperloop differs from the traditional rail in two ways. Firstly, the pods carrying passengers move through tubes from which most of the air has been evacuated to minimize friction. As a result, the pods could travel at a speed as high as 750 miles per hour. Secondly, instead of moving on wheels like a train or car, the pods are meant to float on air or employ magnetic levitation to minimize friction.

How much would a Hyperloop cost to build?

The LA to San Francisco Hyperloop envisioned by Elon Musk Envisaged is expected to cost around $6 billion. A major part of the cost of the project lies in constructing the tube network that includes the cost of the tube, pillars, vacuum pumps, and stations. The cost of the capsules was estimated at around $1.35m per piece; with 40 required for the service that would cost around $54m.

What will be the implementation challenges?

Although the concept of the hyperloop appears wonderful, it is evident that it would face several challenges in terms of construction, society, health, and the environment.
  1. Cost: We can’t underestimate the cost of the technology and sophisticated tube system that is expected to be millions of dollars.
  2. Technology: The manufacturing of the long vacuum tube shall need advanced technical skills that are expensive and risky to maintain.
  3. Human Life: The limited space inside the train may pose risk to human life and health. The excessive G-force may cause nausea and hypertension.
  4. Legal: The construction of tubes would demand huge land and property requiring several legal clearances and compensations to those whose lands will be acquired.
  5. Environmental: The installation of the tubes would require space and thus causing a large number of trees and forests to be cut down, leading to loss of habitat and desertification.

What will be its impact on society?

The research on the possible benefits of the hyperloop project to society shows that the journey from London to Birmingham would take only nine minutes. Faster journeys will enhance job opportunities and will have a positive outcome on tourism and sustainability. Moreover, Hyperloop will improve the access to education as the distance of the educational institutions from home will not be a challenge anymore. Besides the time factor, Hyperloop will play an important role in solving the housing crisis. The cost of living in metropolitans like London and New York is pushing the vulnerable residents out due to economic instability. By making the movement to places around the country affordable, people will be more likely to live outside of the city. According to Elon Musk, “Hyperloop would inconvenience landowners no more than having a telephone pole on their property”.

When will the first Hyperloops be available?

Several companies are competing against each other to turn the concept of Hyperloop into a functioning commercial system. Although the basic concept has existed for many years, Hyperloop technology is still under development as of now, the earliest hyperloop is expected to be up and running by 2030 but most services are expected to run even later since the testing of the technology is still in initial stages. The locations where Hyperloops will be established are still not known. However, many companies have planned out routes in the US, Europe, and elsewhere. Possible routes include New York to Washington DC, Pune to Mumbai, Kansas City to St Louis, Bratislava to Brno, and Vijaywada to Amaravati.

What will be the experience of a Hyperloop?

Critics of Hyperloop have suggested that traveling in the tube might not be a delightful experience owing to excessive G-force that may cause nausea. However, its supporters say that the journey of a hyperloop will feel just like traveling in an elevator or a passenger plane. The companies that are making the hyperloop claim that despite it being an extremely fast move vehicle, the systems they are building will accelerate with tolerable G-forces similar to taking off in a Boeing 747. Acceleration and deceleration processes will be gradual with tolerable G-forces and turbulence. According to Elon Musk, “A beautiful landscape will be displayed in the cabin where each passenger will have access to their entertainment system”.

Will the Hyperloop ticket be expensive?

The LA to San Francisco version of the Hyperloop Envisaged by Elon Musk will offer tickets at a nominal $20, but Virgin Hyperloop One is doubtful on its plans. As of now, the cost will depend significantly on the route and the target is to make it affordable for everyone. The Hyperloop Transportation Technologies (HTT) said that it expects a profitable system with low ticket price projections. But like any new technology, critics do feel that this will be an expensive way of travel too.
